After sweeping the White Sox by a combined score of 31-2, I was worried I was already going to start getting bored. Don't want to move up to Legend, so I'm hoping HOF works for me.

Then came the first home series of the year agains the Diamondbacks. What a fun series as my Braves took two of three.

Won the opener 4-3 in 10 innings. In the second game, Austin Riley hit his first homer (and first RBI) of the year in the 7th to break a 3-all tie and lift us to another 4-3 win. In the series finale, the Diamondbacks raced out to a 5-0 lead. Behind a 5-run fifth, we stormed back to take a 6-5 lead. But Arizona countered with a 5-run eighth to take the final game 11-7.

Ozzie Albies is still white hot with a league-leading seven homers and 15 RBIs (although Bryce Harper is right behind him). Ronald Acuna, Matt Olson and Jarred Kelenic have also started off strong. Riley, Marcell Ozuna and Orlando Arcia are off to cold starts.

At 7-2 we have the best record in the NL. The defending champion Rangers have started the season with nine straight wins. They're the last unbeaten team.

Yeah...this had me nervous throughout the game lol. Thank goodness. He's batting .268 13hr 32rbi. Can't afford to lose him for a long time.

Athletics get first sweep of 2024 while allowing just one run

The Oakland Athletics swept the (at the time) first place Minnesota Twins three games to none. And currently, manger, Mark Kotsay looks like a genius.

After Ross Striplings early season struggles, Kotsay moved him to the bullpen and replaced him by hard throwing Mason Miller who had been a long reliever.

Miller started six games for Oakland in 2023 but made his first in 2024 in the second game against Minnesota. And, although, he gave up the only run in the series, he had a great 2024 debut as a starting pitcher (6.0 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 4 SO, 1 BB). His one given up run came via a fifth inning Max Kepler homerun (8) to bring the score to 2-1 in favor of the Athletics.

Shea Langeliers answered back in the bottom half of the inning with his fourth of the year and eventually, Oakland took the game, 6-1.

Oakland closed out the sweep in game three as both teams failed to get much offense going. The lone run came in the seventh inning when Zack Gelof knocked in Esteury Ruiz who had singled earlier in the inning.


The A's will look to keep their momentum going as they head to California to take on the Angels (44-32/4th AL West).

So currently the Reapers are sitting 3 games back in the division and .5 game back in the Wild Card. Luis Robert Jr is having an MVP season so far hitting .300 with 26 HR but he's in his final year on his contract and I just got to the deadline. Trying to figure out if I should move him or keep him and try and go for it what do you guys think?

They have made some nice improvements to dynamic difficulty this year.

The Cardinals started the 2024 season by splitting a 4 game series vs the Dodgers.

Arlington, TX (AP) - The Flagstaff Hops continued to play well as they took two of three from Fort Worth to open their road trip in Arlington.

The Hops opened up a three game weekend series at Globe Life Park with a 4-3 victory over the Kings. Juro Yamaguchi threw 6.2 shutout innings, striking out two to pick up the win for the Hops.

Flagstaff got off to a quick start as David Petrovski hit a first inning home run off of Ken Wilson, his tenth on the season. It would remain that way into the seventh when the Hops added some insurance runs. Roberto Geronimo singled to open the inning, but Wilson got Robbie Westbrook to strike out and Ryan Kelly to fly out. Donnie Roland then lined a two-out, RBI double to left to make it 2-0. After a Bradley York single held Roland at third, Forrest Owen lined a single to right to score Roland with the third Hops run.

Flagstaff would add another run in the top of the eighth. Roberto Geronimo singled and stole second. Robbie Westbrook then lined a two-out RBI single to right to score Geronimo to make it 4-0.

Oliver Benedict came on in relief and the normally reliable setup man, struggled. He got the first two outs before Randy Klaus reached on a throwing error from Ryan Kelly.. Pedro Felix then walked and Tim Ferreira made him pay, blasting a three-run home run to right to cut the lead to 4-3. All three run sallowed by Benedict were unearned. Pedro Macias would get the final out of the eighth and Vic Miller sent down the Kings in order in the ninth to pick up his 25th save.

On Saturday afternoon, the Kings evened the series with a walk-off 3-2 victory thanks to a Chris Carlisle solo home run in the bottom of the 11th inning off of Vic Miller. The Kings hit three solo home runs in the win on a sun splashed afternoon in Arlington.

Fort Worth took a 1-0 lead in the third inning on a solo home run from Rickey Moran, his 19th on the season.

Flagstaff would tie it up in the seventh on a Robbie Westbrook sac fly with the bases loaded, but the Kings managed to get out of the inning, allowing only that single run. They would then retake the lead in the bottom half on a Cal Velasco solo home run off of Russell Fluty, his 15th on the season.

Emmitt Hampton would tie the game in the top of the ninth off of Kings closer Crawford when he smashed a solo home run to right with one out. It was his 22nd on the year and that sent the game to extra innings.

In the 11th, Oliver Benedict would get the first out and then manager Matt Blake brought in closer Vic Miller. He retired Newman, but Chris Carlisle hit a hanging curevball into the seats in right to secure the walk-off victory. Miller dropped to (3-3) on the season.

In Sunday's finale, the Hops got a great start from Geraldo Rodriguez and they tiptoed their way out of trouble in the ninth to earn a 3-2 victory and another series win.

The Hops would take the lead in the first inning on an Emmitt Hampton sac fly that scored Thomas Sanders. They would extend that lead to 2-0 in the fifth on a two-out RBI single from David Benitez that also scored Thomas Sanders. A two-out, bases loaded RBI single from Forrest Owen in the sixth made it 3-0.

The Kings would finally get on the board in the bottom of the sixth on a two-out RBI double from Percy Mays. That spelled the end of the line for Geraldo Rodriguez. Rodriguez (5-9) went 5.2 innings, allowing one run on six hits. He struck out six and walked two. Sam Varela came on to get them out of the inning.

It would remain 3-1 into the ninth and then things got interesting. Closer Vic Miller came in for the third straight day, and gave up a lead off double to Mays. He would get Graham to fly out to right, but Emmitt Hampton would throw the ball away, allowing Percy Mays to move up to third. Rickey Moran would hit a sac fly to cut it to 3-2. Miller then hit P.J. Woodson and gave up a single to Newman before getting Campos to fly out to center to end the game, picking up his 26th save. He threw 27 pitches in the inning.

Fort Worth ace Gabriel Carmona (6-4) took the loss, allowing two runs on six hits in five innings of work. He struck out seven and walked one.

The Hops (54-66) will now head down to San Antonio for a three game series with the first-place Javelinas (69-51).

Around the League: Surprise's big bats came through for the Saguaros on Thursday as Dan Turner (20) and Alberto Ruiz (24) each homered in a 3-1 victory over Phoenix to salvage the final game of a three game series in downtown Phoenix.

Scottsdale's Jaime Pacheco won his 15th game on the season, tops in the Desert League, as the Scorpions cruised past Glendale 7-1. Pacheco tossed seven innings, allowing one run on four hits, while striking out five and walking three.

Salt Lake's Rafael Geronimo blasted a three-run home run (15) in the first inning to help the Chukars to a 6-2 victory over ML Central leading Rio Rancho. Salt Lake trails St George by 2.5 games, while the Owlz are 1.5 games up on the defending ML Champions, El Paso.

Mesa's Albert Pulido (19,20) and Welker Washington (16,17) each homered twice as the Solar Sox opened up a big weekend series by pounding Surprise 10-1. Pulido went 3 for 5 and drove in five, while Washington went 3 for 4 with a double and the two home runs, driving in four for a Solar Sox team that is on the outside of the Wild Card race in the Desert League. Mesa has won four straight, but open the weekend four games out of a playoff spot.

El Paso opened up a big weekend series in Rio Rancho with a 7-1 victory over the Owlz to close to within a half game of first place. Josh Hawk homered and drove in three to lead the Express to the win. Bruno de la Cruz (12-8) picked up the win, tossing eight innings and allowing one run on seven hits. He struck out nine and walked one. Rollie Flingers (15-5) took the loss for the Owlz, his third straight. He only lasted three innings, allowing seven runs on six hits. He struck out four and walked four.

Salt Lake opened up a big series with first-place St George with a 5-2 victory over the Archers in Salt Lake City. Richie Guerrero and Robby Payne each doubled and drove in two to lead the Chukars. Virgil Wray (10-3) picked up the win, throwing 6.1 innings and allowing two runs on five hits, while striking out six and walking one.

Gilbert's Hideo Yoshida homered twice (9,10) and drove in a career high seven runs as the Roadrunners blew out Tucson 10-2.

Salt River defeated Chandler 8-0 on Sunday afternoon to take two of three from the Chefs. The Rafters chased Francisco Santiago (14-3) after just 1.2 innings, as he allowed five runs on four hits with four walks. Jesus Galindo went 3 for 5 with three two doubles and six RBIs in the win for Salt River.

El Paso defeated Rio Rancho 12-0 on Sunday, sweeping the three game series to take over first-place in the ML Central. Josh Hawk went 2 for 5 with a home run and drove in four runs to lead the Express. Mark Donnellon (11-5) tossed 8.1 shutout innings, scattering three hits and striking out five. The Express have now won nine straight.

Phoenix, AZ (AP) - As the calendar hits the dog days of summer we now take a look at the races in the Intermountain Baseball League.

In the Mountain League, San Antonio, El Paso and St George are the division leaders with Rio Rancho and Fort Worth holding down Wild Card spots. Over in the Desert League the division leaders are Chandler, Scottsdale and San Diego with Surprise and Long Beach in Wild Card spots.

San Antonio leads the ML East by three games over Fort Worth. They are led by defending MVP and this year's MVP frontrunner, Kosuke Matsui who is hitting .267 with 32 home runs and 90 RBIs. They have six games left with Fort Worth, all in September. The Kings lead the series (8-5) this year.

In the ML Central, red-hot El Paso has caught and passed Rio Rancho. The Express have won nine straight as they look to defend their Mountain League pennant. They are lead by Josh Hawk who is squarely in the MVP race, hitting .301 with 28 home runs and 89 RBIs. Bruno de la Cruz is in the race for Cy Young at (12-8) with and ERA of 3.12. The Owlz are lead by Rollie Flingers (15-5, 2.49) and Zack Gallagher who is hitting .297 with 27 home runs and 86 RBIs. These two teams will only meet four more times all in September. The Express have won 10 of the 15 games between the teams in 2024.

Out in the ML West, Flagstaff is pretty much out of the race and out of the Wild Card. St George leads Salt Lake by 3.5 games with the Chukars four games out of a Wild Card. Jamaal McCormack (33 HR, 70 RBIs) and Chris Taylor (32 HR, 72 RBIs) lead the Archers team that leads the league in home runs. Their ace Lamont Lawrence (11-5, 3.46 ERA) is out with a fractured wrist and may miss the rest of the season. The Archers are (6-10) against Salt Lake with just three games left between the teams.

Chandler is cruising in the DL East with a 12 game lead over Salt River. The Rafters are just two games back in the Wild Card race so they still have plenty to play for. The Chiefs are led by Carl Lentzkow who is hitting .333 with 22 home runs and 84 RBIs. Young Zach Dossett is hitting .311 with 24 home runs and 78 RBIs to go along with 20 stolen bases. The defending champs look like the favorites to repeat in October.

Scottsdale leads the DL Central after trailing Surprise for most of the year. The Scorpions have moved out to a 3.5 game lead with the Saguaros holding onto a Wild Card position. MVP frontrunner Lee Lim is hitting .272 with 28 home runs and 96 RBIs. Jaime Pacheco is the leading Cy Young candidate with a (15-5) record and 2.68 ERA.

Out West, it is a tight race with San Diego and Long Beach tied atop the division, but Henderson and Las Vegas are just 2.5 and 4.0 games back. The Seals are lead by All-Star fireballer Matt Campbell (10-6, 3.63 ERA) and young first baseman Matt Mulder (.248, 21 Hrs and 57 RBIs). Long Beach is trying to go from last to first and they are led by centerfielder Kyle Carroll who is having an MVP campaign, hitting .282 with 22 home runs and 89 RBIs. The Surf Dawgs only won 68 games in 2023 and have already won 63 in 2024.

Cardinals sweep Royals in 2 game series

The Cardinals (63-55) took both games of an odd 2 game series with the Royals. The Cardinals are a half game back of the Brewers and are currently the 3rd wild card holding a 3 game lead on both the Reds and Cubs.

The Cardinals pretty much beat up the Royals this series winning Friday night 8-1 and then again on Saturday 7-2. The biggest surprise, besides pitching and hitting being on the same page, was that on Friday night, the Cardinals lost Kyle Gibson in the first inning after just 5 pitches to a shoulder injury. The bullpen combination of Zach Thompson, Keynan Middleton, and recently recalled Andre Pallante would combine for 8.1 innings giving up just the single run on 6 hits. Impressive showing for a bullpen that has been strugglign of late.

Saturday it was Miles Mikolas turning in probably his best performance of the season. He went 8 innings giving up 2 runs on just 3 hits and striking out 11. Mikolas was going for the complete game shutout but gave up a 2 run homerun to Bobby Witt Jr that knocked him out the game. Jordan Hicks would sit down the Royals 3 up 3 down to close out the game.

The Cardinals will now travel to Cincinnati for a three game series with the Reds.

Kyle Gibson done for regular season with shoulder tear

The Cardinals will be without Kyle Gibson for the regular season and possibly the playoffs. The 36 year old was removed from the game against the Royals Friday night after suffering a shoulder tear in his right shoulder. Gibson was placed on the 60 day IL and will likely end his 2024 season. There is a slight possbility that he could return for the playoffs should the Cardinals make it.

Cooper Hjerpe was recalled from Memphis to fill the rotation spot.

The Braves just got finished with our 7-game homestand, going 4-3. I only Fully played 3 games, so I am digging the "Custom Game Entry"! The game plays pretty dang good! The double play combo random throws and clutch moments are impactful.

We are 9-4 in the early season, 3 games up on the 2nd place Phils. Hitting the road for 6 games, 3 vs. Marlins and 3 vs. Astros. Will play all of the Astros series and take advantage of "CGE" vs the Marlins, since we play often.

San Antonio, TX (AP) - The Flagstaff Hops red-hot play continued as they swept the first-place San Antonio Javelinas in Texas finish the road trip (5-1) against two of the better teams in the Mountain League.

The Hops opened a three game series on the Riverwalk with an impressive 7-4 victory over the Javelinas. David Petrovski went deep twice and drove in three to lead the Hops to their eighth win in their last ten ballgames.

Flagstaff got things going in the second inning as Forrest Owen blasted a two-run home run off of Angelo Velez to make it 2-0. It was his 14th on the year. They would increase that lead to 4-0 in the third on David Petrovski's first home run of the game, a two-run shot.

Richie Jackson would double home Ryan Kelly in the fifth to put the Hops up by five, and with Ryan Pressley on the bump, it looked like a pretty safe lead. But the Javelinas hit back-to-back home runs in the bottom of the sixth to cut it to 5-3. Horace Ramirez hit a two-run home run and Brian Gonzalez followed that up with a solo shot to get the Jevelinas back in the ballgame.

David Petrovski would add a solo home run in the top of the seventh to stretch the lead back out to three. It was his second home run of the game and 12th on the season. A Bradley York RBI single in the eighth extended the lead to 7-3.

San Antonio would get one back in the bottom of the eighth on a Tom Santo RBI single.

Ryan Pressley (11-10) picked up the win, going 7.2 innings and allowing four runs on ten hits, striking out two. Kenneth Valdez got the final out in the eighth and Aldo Osuna pitched the ninth, striking out two, to earn his first save on the season.

The Hops stole four bases in the game, including three from Robbie Westbrook, while Forrest Owen threw out all four base stealing attempts by San Antonio.

On Tuesday evening, the Hops used a five run ninth to blow open a one run game and defeat the Javelinas 8-2. Rookie Thomas Sanders went 2 for 5 with a home run and two RBIs to help the Hops to the victory as they look to go for the sweep on Wednesday afternoon.

Flagstaff would once again jump out to an early lead, grabbing a 1-0 lead in the second on a Robbie Westbrook RBI double. Emmitt Hampton would extend that lead to 3-0 in the third as he blasted a two-run home run, his 23rd on the year.

San Antonio would creep back into this one beginning in the bottom of the third as Kosuke Matsui lined a two-out RBI double that scored Mark Lantern. They would add another run in the fourth after Greg Hunter tripled to left and scored on a Horace Ramirez sac fly to cut the Hops lead to 3-2.

It would remain that way into the ninth inning, when the Hops broke it wide open. Forrest Owen hit a three-run home run to left off of reliever Harold Groniga and then Thomas Sanders hit a two-run home run off of Tom Jung to make it 8-2. It was Owen's 15th on the season and the fifth for Sanders.

Pedro Macias picked up his second save on the season, both on this road trip, as he got the final six outs. Alex Farmer (16-4) took over the Mountain League lead in wins, as he allowed two runs on four hits in seven innings of work. He struck out five and walked two.

Ted McClendon (7-8) took the loss for San Antonio. He went six innings, allowing three runs on seven hits, while striking out four.

On Wednesday afternoon, the Hops completed the sweep of the Javelinas with a 3-2 victory. Emmitt Hampton keyed the win with a solo home run as he went 2 for 4 and scored twice.

Flagstaff grabbed a 1-0 lead in the fourth on Hampton's solo home run, his 24th on the year. They would extend that lead to 3-0 in the sixth on a Phillip Choi RBI single and an Isaac Nettles sacrifice fly. Choi, getting a rare start, went 2 for 4 and drove in a run.

San Antonio would get both of those runs back in the bottom half of the sixth as T.J. Hart led off with a solo home run, his 23rd, and Mark Lantern singled home Josh Ortega, who had walked. Ortega, the former Hop, went 0 for 12 in the series with three strikouts and a walk, scoring one run.

Juro Yamaguchi (5-11) was lifted with two outs in the sixth, allowing two runs on six hits, striking out five and walking two. Samuel Espinoza got the final out in the sixth and worked the seventh. Oliver Benedict pitched a scoreless eighth and Vic Miller sent down the Javelinas in order in the ninth to pick up his 27th save.

Leo Sanchez (9-4) took the loss for San Antonio. He pitched 5.1 innings, allowing three runs on eight hits, striking out five and walking one.

The Hops (57-66) are red-hot but it is likely too late to salvage the season with only 39 games left. They are (12-3) in their last 15, but still find themselves 10.5 games back in the ML West and 10 games back of Fort Worth for the second ML Wild Card.

They will return home to take on Fort Worth (67-56) in a big four game series starting tomorrow evening and then host Surprise (68-55) for a two game series. If they can manage to sweep the Kings, they could find themselves back in the Wild Card race, but there are still five teams between them and Fort Worth.

Around the League: Mesa's Antonio Velazquez went 2 for 3 with two home runs (18,19) and four RBIs to help lead Mesa to a 10-7 victory over Salt River. The Rafters' Tory Herrera went 4 for 5 hitting for the cycle and driving in two in a losing effort.

Prescott got two ninth inning RBI singles from George Collins and Paul Knapp to rally and defeat El Paso 3-2 on Monday evening, ending the Express' nine game winning streak. The Hot Shots stole five bases in the win, their fourth straight.

Glendale's Edward Hampton (24) and Adrian Beltran (5) each homered and drove in five runs apiece as the Desert Dogs upended Goodyear 14-4. The 3-4-5 hitters for Glendale (Hampton, Munoz and Beltran) went 11 for 16 with five extra base hits and 12 RBIs in the victory.

Scottsdale's Jaime Pacheco (16-5) keeps making his case for the DL Cy Young award. On Tuesday evening he went 6.1 innings, allowing three runs on seven hits, while striking out six, as the Scorpions defeated Henderson 5-3. Juan Vargas' three-run double in the fifth gave Scottsdale the lead for good as they won for the seventh time in eight games.

Albuquerque's Ryan Swearer homered twice (13,14) and drove in six runs as the Mariachis pounded Fort Worth 14-2 as they continue to stay alive in the ML Wild Card race.

Salt River's Tory Herrera just missed hitting for the cycle for the second straight game on Wednesday afternoon as he went 3 for 5 with a single, double, home run (13) and one RBI in a 13-3 victory over Mesa.

Tucson's Ken Burkhart (10-7) tossed a complete game one-hitter, striking out eight and walking one, as the Roadrunners shutout Santa Fe 4-0.

A's remain hot with second straight sweep

Don't look now but the Oakland Athletics have swept two straight series' first against Minnesota and most recently against their divisional rival, the Los Angeles Angels.

The A's really won twice in the series as not only did they get the sweep but they also held Mike Trout to a 2-11 series and no homeruns. That is especially significant as Trout came into the series with a MLB leading 33 homeruns and on pace for an absurd 83.

The A's pitching was again outstanding in the series as their starters, Paul Blackburn, Alex Wood and JP Sears had good performances. Sears was the one that had the worst of the three but after a complete game shutout in his last appearance, that can be forgiven.

Blackburn pitched game one and went seven innings with no ones. His bullpen backed him up as Zach Jackson and Lucas Erceg also allowed no runs as Oakland took the win, 2-0, also behind two Lawrence Butler RBI's.

Butler had an outstanding series (5-11, 4 RBI) as he continues to fill the rightfield spot well after the Brent Rooker trade.

The A's won game two, 6-2 and game three, 5-4.

The team came from behind in game three aa Butler and Esteury Ruiz hit homers in the seventh inning to give the A's the lead at 5-4. A lead they would hold onto despite their closer, Lucas Erceg leaving the game in the bottom of the ninth with an at the time, undisclosed injury (turned out to be a strained bicep) that will keep him out a few days.

The A's will look to keep their streak going as they head to Arizona to face off with last year's runner ups, the Arizona Diamondbacks (45-35/2nd NL West)
