Yeah, if a pitcher has a fifth pitch, I use that R1 pitch with extreme prejudice. But I do need a fourth pitch because if used correctly, I can get six good innings out of my starter more often than not. I can get by with two or three pitches once I get to the bullpen, but my starter, I want that fourth pitch. Heck, if Tristan McKenzie even had a two-seamer to go with his four-seamer, I could make do with that. I'm just hesitant o pull the trigger on the deal, but I do like what he brings to the table, other than being a three-pitch starter.

Cubs clinch playoff spot despite series loss to Pirates
The Pittsburgh Pirates playoffs hopes are still alive and their series win versus the Cubs could help their cause. Currently, The Pirates are the first team out of the NL Wildcard as they trail the Padres/Dodgers by 2.5 games (76-70 vs. 79-68).
Coming into their last series of the 2025 regular season, the Cubs led the Pirates, 7-3. But the Pirates and their new additions such as Kyle Bradish, Riley Greene, Spencer Torkelson and Christian Walker got that final series victory.
Game one saw the Cubs Ace, Shota Imanaga face off with the Pirates #4 starter, Domingo German. German was the better of the two in this matchup. He pitched 6 innings, allowed 5 hits and just a single run. Imanaga pitched 6.1, 8 hits and 5 runs. The first two came via some homeruns in the second inning by Spencer Torkelson (#9) and Christian Walker (#30). He then settled down however and the Cubs got one back in the 5th when Christopher Morel also hit his 30th to bring the score to 2-1.
In fact, the Cubs briefly took the lead in the 7th inning when they scored three off of Pirates' relieves, Jalen Beeks and Colin Holderman. That was short lived however as the Pirates went on to score three more against Imanaga in the seventh before he was finally pulled in favor of September call up, Paul Chambers who unfortunately also allowed a run of his own and his first in his first three apperances in the MLB.
From there, the Cubs were unable to add to their total while the Pirates added one more in the eighth to take the game, 7-4.
The Cubs won game two, 8-4 but lost game three, 3-2 in extra innings after Ke' Bryan Hayes hit a walkoff single in the bottom of the 11th inning.
The Cubs focus now turns to closing out the division with their magic number now at three. They havent swept a series since doing so against those same Pirates (08/11-08/13). Now, they will try to do that against the Royals (56-90/5th AL Central) in Kansas City.
**The Twins are the only other team to clinch a playoff spot and have also clinched their division (90-57, 20.0 over Cleveland)
Of note, the Padres and Dodgers are currently tied in the NL West (79-68)
The Braves and Phillies are separated by just 1.5 games in the NL East (91-56 and 89-57)
The Rangers and Angels are separated by 4.5 in the AL West (87-59 and 83-54) with the Astros hanging on to a wildcard spot at 78-68 which is 4.5 over Seattle and the New York Yankees.Comment

Re: MLB The Show 24 Franchise Mode Discussion Thread
15 games left and a half game lead over the Phillies as I head to Philly for a three game series. Game one we got pounded 7-0 but I loaded the bases in the 8th inning and even though I came away with nothing I could feel myself getting out of this offensive funk I'm in.
Game two I had to face Wheeler and after a rough first two innings I settled down at the plate, was able to work some deep counts and scratched in a run thanks to a Brett Baty double and a two out single by Brandon Nimmo. A two run homer by Alonso in the 4th and a solo shot from Baty in the 5th and we were able to chase Wheeler out after 5 innings and 5 runs. Baty, who I was contemplating leaving off the post season roster added a second home run and we returned the favor with a 7-0 win of our own. I am so much more comfortable facing a high nineties throwing pitcher like Wheeler than I am against a pitch to contact guy like Cristopher Sanchez who threw a complete game shutout the night before. 13 games to go and I've got a half game lead with 5 games left against the Phillies. A little disappointing that a Saturday game between two teams battling for a division crown only drew 30,000 fansComment

Cubs clinch second straight division title, turn focus to #1 seed.
The Chicago Cubs swept the Royals to clinch the NL Central Division. Now, Chicago turns their attention to maintaining and clenching the #1 seed in the NL.
The Cubs are currently two games over their biggest competitors, the Atlanta Braves who sit at 94-56. Speaking of the Braves, they joined the Cubs and Twins in securing their spot in the postseason but still, the Phillies have a chance at the division as they currently sit 4.5 games back with 11 games left. The Braves magic number is 9.
With the Cubs only having 11 games left, Juan Soto's quest at history seems to be over as he still sits at 61 homeruns and hasnt homered yet in September. He is still the front runner for the NL MVP.
The Cubs now look forward to returning home to face the Nationals (57-93/5th NL East) as they look towards that top spot in the NL.Comment

Re: MLB The Show 24 Franchise Mode Discussion Thread
I've had an absolute meltdown down the stretch. Heading in to a four game series in Queens vs the Phillies a half game behind them and we've lost the first three and sit 3.5 back with 6 games to go. We're hanging on to the top wildcard right now but suddenly the Braves are two back and I have a two game series in Atlanta after I finish my series with the Phillies. We've locked up a wildcard spot but both my pitching and hitting have gone cold at the worst time possible. I hit 73 home runs in the first five months of the season with Pete Alonso and he has a whopping two in September.Comment

Cub's collect 2nd straight series sweep
The Winning streak has reached six with the Cubs just one game below the coveted 100 mark for the 2025 season. The Cubs are already guaranteed to finish with at least one less victory then the 2024 season yet, hopes are high for another trip the the world series as they hope to avenge their 2024/2025 loss to the Texas Rangers.
The Cubs got to one game below 100 with their sweep of the Washington Nationals. A series that finally saw Juan Soto get on the homerun board in September.
Soto broke his 16 game streak of no balls leaving the park in the 3rd game versus the Nationals as he hit a low outside changeup off of Corbin Burnes to give him his 62'd of the season. with just eight games left in the season, his quest at history seems nearly impossible but he would likely be happy to just lead the Cubs to the #1 seed in the NL. they currently six three games up on the Braves in that category and will look to keep that lead as they welcome the Milwaukee Brewers (84-69/2nd Nl Central/2nd NL Wildcard) to Chicago for a three game set to end their season series.Comment

I'm not sure I'm getting 25 yet, I just spent a year grinding through my first season and I don't really want to start over. Although if for some reason I can't sign Soto in the off season then I'm definitely buying 25Comment

Re: MLB The Show 24 Franchise Mode Discussion Thread
So you're saying there's a chance? Mets avoided the sweep by pounding the Phillies 9-2 to cut the lead to 2.5 games and on the Mets off day the Phillies lost to the Cubs, bringing the Mets within 2 games of the division leading Phillies with five to play. Going to need a lot of help from the Cubs as the Phillies finish the season with three against the Nationals, who are one of the worst teams in the league so I'm not counting on any help there.Comment

Cub's winning streak reaches nine
The Cubs have now swept three series in a row as they look to carry all of this momentum into the playoffs.
Their most recent series sweep came against their divisional rivals, the Milwaukee Brewers who have long been eliminated from the race for the division but still hold a slim lead with the #2 wildcard spot in the NL.
The sweep from the Cubs makes Milwaukee's playoff hopes a bit more stressful. As mentioned, they currently sit in the second wildcard spot at 84-72 and they currently are one game up on the Padres in that third spot and two up on the Diamondbacks who currently sit outside the playoffs at 82-74. The Pirates are the last team in the NL who still have a shot as they sit at 80-76 with six games remaining.
The Cubs will now hit the road for their final five games of the regular season. First, they head across town to face the White Sox in two before they finish off the season with three againt the St. Louis Cardinals.Comment

Cubs use two big 9th innings to complete sweep and maintain winning steak
The Cub's winning streak is now 11 as they look to carry their momentum into the playoffs. They beat their cross town rivals, 4-1 and 8-2 thanks to strong 9th innings in both games.
The teams entered the 9th inning of game one tied, 1-1 behind strong starting performances by Jameson Taillon (Cubs/8.1 ip/4 hits/1 R/13 SO) and Jake Woodford (White Sox/6.0 IP/5 H/1 R/4 SO)
The Cubs then went on to get three runs in the 9th inning. Two came off of Grant Taylor who pitched in the eighth inning and into the ninth as he allowed back to back homeruns from Ian Happ (14) and Cody Bellinger (29). Following the B2B homeruns, Joe Barlow was brought in but promptly allowed a third in a row to Dansby Swanson (21) as the Cubs took the 4-1 lead and eventually the win as Tanner Scott collected his 35th save of the season.
The Cubs did it again in game two as they entered the 9th with the lead, 4-2.
Their run total would double in the inning behind two rbi's by Juan Soto and single runs batted in by Cody Bellinger and Patrick Wisdom who had a three hit game as the Cubbies took game two, 8-2 and the series, 2-0 to keep their winning streak alive headed into their last regular season serires of 2025.
That last series sees the Cubs travel to St. Louis to take on the last place Cardinals (73-86/5th NL Central/31.0 games back)Comment

Not quite perfect/perfect
A perfect/perfect in MLB the show 24 is a perfectly timed and perfectly contacted hit by a batter. In this sense, it would be a perfect game. Justin Steele likely locked up the NL Cy Young with his performance in the Cub's last game of the series.
He wasnt perfect but he got close. He was perfect through eight innings against Cardinals and had punched out 14 of their 24 batters. It wasnt to be however as the first batter of the 9th, Mason Winn reached on an infield single. He was left in after that and got one out but was pulled after that out with Paul Chambers being called in to close it out for will likely be his last game with the big league club for the season as he will likely get sent back down after he was called up as part of the expanded September rosters.
The Cubs won two of three againt those Cardinals to end the regular season. Their 11 game winning streak came to an end in the first game as they got shutout for the first time in September and lost, 2-0
The Cubs now look toward the playoffs and will face the winner of the wildcard matcup betwen the 4th seeded Philiadelphia Phillies (98-64) and the 5th seeded Milwaukee Brewers (89-73).
The Braves are the two seed in the NL (102-60) and will await the winner between #3 Diamondbacks (87-75) and #6 Dodgers (86-76)
The Twins are the #1 seed in the AL (100-62) and will face either #4 Angels (92-70) or #5 Orioles (90-72)
The Rangers (97-65) are the #2 seed and will face either #3 Rays (96-66) or #6 Astros (84-78)Comment

Re: MLB The Show 24 Franchise Mode Discussion Thread
What a disaster the final month of the season ended up being for me. I had a 2.5 game lead over the Phillies and 5.5 or 6.5 game lead on the Braves at the start of September and we went 10-15. Not only did the Phillies catch us to win the division but the Braves did too so we had to travel to Atlanta for the wildcard round. They won game one and jumped out to a 6-1 lead in game two but we were able to cut the lead to 6-4 in the 8th. Then with two on and one out I had a spectacular meltdown on the bases the pretty much ended our season. McNeil hits a ball to RF and it looks like it will get over Acuna's head so I hit L1 to send everyone, then it looks like he's going to be able to make the catch so I hit R1 to retreat everyone. The ball hits his glove but he can't haul it in so now I hit L1 again and I somehow ended up with two men on second base for an easy out. Next Francisco Alvarez struck out then in the 9th we brought the tying run to the plat but Brandon Nimmo struck out to end our seasonComment

Cubs out, Brewers advance after NLDS sweep.
The Cubs have disappointed their fan base even more than 2024. Atleast last year, the team reched the world series. This year, they lost in the first round to their divisional rivals, the Milwaukee Brewers.
The Cubs knew they were in trouble after D.L. Hall started game one and was dominate as he pitched 6.2 innings and held the offense to just 3 hits. Matt Moore and Bryse Wilson completed the shut out didnt allow another hit as the Brewers took the 4-0 victory.
After that, the Cubs would face Brandon Woodruff and Freddy Peralta much like the Phillies faced in the wildcard round in which they lost, 2-1.
Altogether, it was the offense who let down the Cubs as they were swept by the Milwaukee Brewers in the NLDS while they only hit two extra base hits (a solo HR by Seiya Suzuki in the 2nd game and another solo shot in the 3rd game by Nico Hoerner.
The Cubs will now take a back seat as they look forward to see if a member of the Central can win the world series.
That answer would be no as the Minnesota Twins won the 2025 world series against the Brewers who got past the Atlanta Braves in the NLCS 4-3.
Minnesota won the WS 4-1.
well that is it as I look forward to MLB the show 2025 where I plan to play with my Astros and their mostly depleted core...thanks for following along.

Re: MLB The Show 24 Franchise Mode Discussion Thread
Alright guys, with the real season coming up, I'm finally getting back to MLBTS. It's been a fun ride, and as much as I'm tempted to buy '25, I'm going to wait and continue this for now.
A quick recap, I'm in year five of my Nationals franchise, which I started way back in 2022. I was running a spreadsheet for the first two seasons, but real life kicked me in the butt and I had to scrap that.
History
2022: 56-106
2023: 84-78, lost Game 7 of the NLCS on a 2 out, walk off home run
2024: 77-85
2025: 94-68, lost in the NLDS
Current Season (May 21, 2026)
Right now we sit second in the NL East at 26-25, having split a four game series with Miami. Our next series is against Philadelphia (23-28, fourth in the division). We have lost Brandon Nimmo and Brandon Drury for the year with major injuries, and have had rocky pitching in both the rotation and bullpen. The offense is, quite literally, hit or miss. Thankfully none of the teams in the division look ready to run away with the title, as all five teams are separated by just four games.Cleveland Guardians - MLB The Show 25
