Re: MLB The Show 24 Franchise Mode Discussion Thread
We gonna drop the PED guys, but keep the guy who was being force fed juiced balls down the stretch to make sure he got to the (meaningless) American League record?

Cubs and Brewers maintain their spots with 2-2 series tie
The Chicago Cubs still lead the NL Central and the Milwaukee Brewers are still the second seed in the NL wildcard after their four game series in late August.
The squads tied the series 2-2 with the Brewers winning the first and last games of the series while the Cubs won the middle 2nd and 3rd games.
The Cubs did lose the last game of the series against a pitcher making his first MLB start and debut. Robert Gasser started for Milwaukee after being called up and made his claim to the final spot in the Brewers five man rotation. He pitched 5 strong innings allowing just 4 hits and 1 run as he struck out 2.
His counter part wasn't as good. Jameson Taillon allowed 10 hits and 5 runs in just 6 innings of work as the Brewers' eventually took the the 5-2 win to tie the series at 2-2.
The Cubs now look to play spoiler as they welcome the Angels (76-55/2nd AL west/0.5 behind Ranges) to Chicago.Comment

Cub's win two of three in return to Wrigley
The Cubs offense was humming in the first two games of their series against the AL West second place Los Angeles Angels as they scored eight runs in both the first and second games of their series. Both resulted in wins wih the Cubbies looking towards the third game for the sweep.
The Angels are also trying to hold onto their #1 wildcard spot or catch the Texas Rangers in the AL West.
LA did take game three despite the Cubs gettomg out to the early lead. The ANgels scored 4 in the 8th off of Shota Imagna who was of course left in too long as both Taylor Ward and Randal Grichuk took him deep in back to back fashionas the Angels took the lead, 5-3. A lead that would hold strong to help the Angels avoid the sweep as they won the game but lost the series 2-1.
The Cubs are now 36 games above .500 as they enter their last series of August as they welcome the Reds (66-68/ 4th NL Central) to Chicago for their last series of the 2025 regular season.Comment

22 games left in my season and we have quite the race in the NL. The Dodgers are currently 3.5 games up on the Mets for the 1 seed, the Mets are one game up on the Phillies in the NL East and the Mets are a half game up on the Cardinals for the 2 seed so we could realistically end up anywhere from 1-4 depending on how the next few weeks shape up.Comment

Cubs get series win headed into last month of regular season
The Cubs won two of three against the Reds in the final days of August to finish their seasons series with Cincinnati actually winning it, 8-5.
Still, the Cubbies are atop the division and with 23 games left are theoretically around ten wins from clinching the division for the second straight season.
The Cubs got the win in game one behind a scoreless eight inning outing from Cy Young candidate, Justin Steele who also increased his MLB leading strikeout total to 202. The Cubs two runs came via solo homeruns by Patrick Wisdom (19) and Juan Soto (61). Wisdom's was his fourth straight game with a homerun and obviously, Soto's puts him just 13 away from breaking Barry Bonds' record.
The Reds then turned it around and shutout the Cubs with a strong starting performance by Hunter Greene who pitched just six innings due to pitch count but in those six, he struck out 9 and allowed just two hits. The bullpen did their job and held the Cubs hitless in the back half of the game as the Reds went on to take the middle game, 4-0.
The Cubs scored three in the 5th inning in game three to take the lead back from the Reds who had scored one of their own in the top half of the inning. From there, the Reds scored another single run in the eighth before Carl Edwards JR came in and shut them down pitching the remainder of the 8th and the 9th.
The Cubs now head into September looking to clinch the division and hopefully the #1 seed int he NL. Their first matchup will be in Chicago versus the Texas Rangers (82-55/1st AL West/4.0 over Angels). The series will be the only meeting in the regular season after the Rangers beat the Cubs in the 2024 world series.Last edited by Itsma806; 02-12-2025, 12:12 AM.Comment

Re: MLB The Show 24 Franchise Mode Discussion Thread
My Braves finally managed to dump David Fletcher's contract. Feels like a pretty good deal for both sides.
Royals get Fletcher and the $7M he's owed next season. But they have $50M in budget room, so not a huge problem for them. Adam Frazier is their everyday 2B and he's struggled this season. Fletcher will now platoon with him as they try to chase down the Twins in the AL Central (or grab a wild-card spot).
We received RP Carlos Hernández. He's had a strong season, albeit at AAA. And that's where he'll start out with us. Looking forward to using him and his 99-MPH fastball eventually.
Moving Fletcher also opened up a spot on the MLB roster for Willi Castro, whom we acquired a few weeks ago from the Twins.
In other trades, the Blue Jays got David Bednar from the Pirates for prospects. And the Giants finally addressed their gaping hole at SS by acquiring Aldemys Diaz from the A's.
Still have about five days left until the deadline. I think I'm done, but looking forward to seeing what the CPU does. Also looking forward to seeing my draft picks, now that they're all signed.Comment

Cubs win another tightly contested series to start September
The Cubs won 2 of 3 against the Rangers who beat them in the 2024 world series.
The Cubs won the first and second games of the series to take the series victory. Game one was won in extras, 7-6 while game two was won, 4-2.
The Rangers did avoid the sweep in game three as Jon Gray and company were pretty dominate allowing just 1 run and 6 total hits.
Justin Steele lost that third game and allowed all six of the Rangers wins which could effect his standing in the NL CY Young race.
Soto did not hit a homerun in the series and managed just one hit as he continues to chase the single season homerun record.
The Cubs will now embark on a 9 game road trip. First, they face the Marlins (65-76/21.5 behind Phillies and Braves)Comment

Re: MLB The Show 24 Franchise Mode Discussion Thread
1.5 games back of the Phillies with 19 to go and I've fallen in to a horrible funk at the plate. I usually murder off speed pitches but I can't get the timing right to save my life and now that is all the computer throws me. When I do get a fastball I'm late because the offspeed stuff has my timing so messed up.Comment

I know that feeling. When a CPU pitcher is effective at mixing their pitches, I also struggle. Im pretty excited to try out this GOAT difficulty in 25 though. Legend is a challenge for me but I want more haha.Comment

Cubs make it eight (series) in row after winning two of three in Miami
In the first two games between the Marlins and the Cubs, the final score was 4-1. The Cubs got that victory in game one while the Marlins returned the favor in game two.
Game three was the 'outlier'. As the Cubs scored five to break the trend of the winning team to score four. They still however maintained the trend of the losing team scoring just a single run.
That one run for the Marlins came in the very first inning and in fact, the very first pitch as Amed Rosario took a 98 MPH Daniel Palencia fastball deep (18) to at the time, give the Marlins the 1-0 lead.
The Cubs had their struggles facing Edard Cabrera early on but he eventually gave up a single run in both the third and fourth innings behind RBI singles by Ian Happ and Nico Hoerner.
The Cubs scored three more in the eighth and eventually took the 5-1 victory and the series, 2-1.
The Cubs will now travel to Pittsburgh to take on the Pirates (74-69/3rd NL Central) as they battle for a wildcard spot and are currenlty 1.5 behind the San Diego Padres in that regard.Comment

Re: MLB The Show 24 Franchise Mode Discussion Thread
We're off to August in my Braves dynasty.
Only one big trade on deadline day with the Rays getting O'Neill Cruz from the Pirates for Carson Williams and Nick Schnell.
We made a minor move, getting utility man Nick Senzel from the Nationals for SP Zak Kent. Kent, acquired earlier in the season from the Rangers, was our ninth-rated prospect.
Got all our draftees signed. We're the Braves, so we focus on pitching. Our first four picks were all pitchers. First-round pick Paul McCann was also our best pick, with B potential.
Had my eye on a SS, Casey Jones. Nearly drafted him with my third-round pick, but thought I could snag him a round later. Bad decision. The Twins picked him three picks before us in the fourth round. And, of course, he's A potential.
Pre-ordered 25 the other day, but it's going to be tough to put this game down. I'm going to continue to play as though I'm not putting it down.Comment

Re: MLB The Show 24 Franchise Mode Discussion Thread
I have an opportunity to acquire Tristan McKenzie from Cleveland and give him a spot in the rotation, only hold up on my end is he's a starter with only three pitches, a fastball, slider and curve.
Any of you guys get good mileage out of starters that only throw three pitches?
I have Sean Reid Foley and Jose Butto, who also only throw three pitches, and have good enough stamina for a spot start here and there, but for the vast majority of the time, I use them in the bullpen. If I get McKenzie, I intend to give him a regular spot in the rotation.T-BONE.
