HUGE GAME 4 WIN FOR THE YANKEES

    Game 4:

    Yankees - 10
    Rangers - 6

All I can say is JUAN SOTO. What a weird game this was. Yankees stared the game with a 2-0 lead courtesy of a Juan Soto 2 run homerun. Texas score 1 in the second and so did we. I thought the 3rd inning was the turning point cause we scored 5 runs to go up 8-1. My thought is that if I just stay focused we will cruise to an easy victory, but the Rangers and different thoughts.[/CENTER]

Rodon pitched well up until the 6th inning. He left runners on an ended up with 5 earned runs. Once again we trusted our bullpen to not f-it up but that's exactly what they did. De Los Santos came in pretty much allowed everyone on base to score making it a 8-6 game. But once again when we needed him the most Juan Soto came through with another 2 run homerun.

From the 7th inning on our bullpen did the job giving up no runs while srtiking out 3. I had to use Holmes to guarantee the victory so lets see how that affects us going forward. Even though De La Cruz is still playing well batting .400 with 4 homeruns and 8 RBIs, Juan Soto has gotten past his slow start and is now batting .250 with 7 homeruns and 11 RBIs. He's leading the entire playoffs in both of the latter categories.

We are headed to a Game 5 at the stadium where we are looking to cloes the Rangers out. Boone has a tough decision, does he pitch his ace Cole and try to close this out or does he hold off on him for a potential game 6 in Texas? Whatever decision is made the Yankees need to stay focused and try their best to end this series.

      2025 Chicago Cubs 04/11-04/13

      Overall Record:8-8 (3rd NL Central/2.5 behind Reds)

      Game Results:

      Game 1
      Twins-4
      Cubs-1

      Game 2
      Cubs-5
      Twins-3

      Game 4
      Cubs-6
      Twins-1

Unlikely Power Surge leads Cubs to 2-1 series victory.

The Cubs scored just one run in their first game against the Twins. That marked their third time in four games with just one run. The exception was game four in their last series against Cincinnati where they scored 2 bur still lost, 3-2.

The scoring picked up in games two and three against Minnesota and that was in a large part thanks to Nico Hoerner who homered twice in both games. The four homeruns are his first of the young 2025 campaign. Juan Soto was also fantastic in the series as he recorded 8 hits in 12 at bats. Speaking of Soto, after his slow start, he has really turned it on and proven that the Cubs were smart to sign him as their everyday right fielder atleast this far into the season.

Speaking of great performances, Shota Imanaga continued to impress in game three of the Twins series. He pitched a full 8 innings, allowed 5 hits, 1 R,1 walk and struck out 11. He currently leads the majors with 39 strikeouts through 4 starts.

The Cubs will now remain on the road as they head to Oakland to face an Athletics team that have been a bit of a surprise early on in the season (8-8/4th AL West).

YANKEES ARE ON THE WAY TO THE WORLD SERIES

The Yankees played their heart out to capture a 7-3 win in Game 5 of the ALCS. Jazz came through in a huge way going 3-4 with a homerun and 2 RBIs. Gerrit Cole pitched 6 innings giving up 3 hits with 3 runs and 7 strikeouts. The bullpen came in to give up zero runs over the rest of the game. What a performance by the much mullioned bullpen. The Yankees are headed to the World Series.

        WORLD SERIES GAME 1

Yankees take on the Cardinals in game 1 of the 2024 world series. The Yankees decided to go with Cole to start the series and man did that decision pay off. He went 6 innings giving up 5 hits with 1 earned run while adding 7 strikeouts. Dustin May (Rangers) went 4 innings giving up 4 hits with 4 runs, 4 walks and 5 strikeouts.

Jazz came up huge again with 2 hits and 2 RBIs. Juan Soto kept his hot streak going with 1 hit, 2 runs, and 2 walks. Anthony Rizzo was the MVP of the game going 1-4 with a homerun and 4 RBIs. It was a great overall performance in Game 1. We are headed up against Steven Matz who is 1-1 in the playoffs with 11 strikeouts, 5 walks and a 5.73 ERA.

Can Nestor Cortez (2-0 with 13 strikeouts and a whopping 0.00 era) give us a big performance and help the Yankees take a commanding 2-0 series lead headed back home? Let's see what happens...

          2025 Chicago Cubs 04/14-04/16

Cubs increase win streak to 5 with 3 game sweep of A's

The Chicago Cubs got above .500 and secured their first series sweep of the 2025 season. That sweep came in a hard fought three game series versus the Oakland Athletics. The series was ripe with offense as the Cubs won game one, 14-10 in a game that featured 9 homeruns (6 CHC, 3 OAK).

Game two was more mild mannered but the Cubs 4 runs in the 4-2 victory were all off of solo homeruns with Juan Sota and Ian Happ hitting a pair a piece.

Game three was yet another homerun showcase with the A's getting back into the mix. The first runs in that game came when Tyler O'Neil hit his first of two homeruns on the night. The first came in the second inning and gave the A's the early 3-0 lead. The 3rd inning saw two more long balls by the A's when Brent Rooker (#5) and Ryan Noda (#3) went back to back to give the A's the 5-0 lead. The Cubs starter Jordan Wicks was pulled shortly thereafter as his 2.2 innings of work was definitely disappointing.

The Cubs also had a player with two homeruns. That was Bo Naylor while his brother, Josh added one of his own in the game. Bo's second was the last homerun of the game and the last run for that matter. His second homerun came in the sixth inning and gave the Cubs the 8-7 lead. With no more scoring, they took that lead to the finish line with Tanner Scott getting his 5th save of the year.

The Cubs still trail the Reds but will look to move closer as after a day off, they head back home to face the Astros (10-8/3rd AL West).

Cubs win series Vs. Astros 2-1

Just like the series, each game between the Cubs and Astros was decided by one. Game one saw Javier Assad start for the Cubs and Hunter Brown for the Astros. Out of the two, Assad had the better outing (6 IP 8 H 3 R 4 SO) while Brown lasted just 4 innings as he gave up 7 hits, 5 runs, 1 walk and struck out 6.

The Cubs got out to the early lead when Patrick Wisdom hit his 6th homerun of the year, in the first inning to give the Cubs the 2-0 lead. That lead would eventually grow to 5-1 before the Astros added two of their own in the fifth inning Jeremy Pena singled in two to bring the Stros closer at 5-3.

The Cubs added one of their own in the bottom half of the inning when Dansby Swanson hit his 4th HR of the year. That lead held up until the eight inning. Keegan Thompson started that inning on the mound after he came in for Assad in the seventh. Kyle Tucker promptly hit a homerun (10) that knocked Thompson out of the game. Hector Nerris then entered and didnt fair much better as he allowed 3 hits and two runs before he was able to get out of that inning.

Carl Edwards JR was able to hold off the Astros offense in the ninth inning to give the Cubs the chance to walk it off. And they would do just that. Although it didnt come in traditional fashion. Nico Hoerner led it off with a single then Josh Naylor doubled and Juan Soto was HBP to load the bases with no outs. Things got a bit nerve racking for the Cubs when Patrick Wisdom struck out to bring Bellinger to the plate with the bases still loaded and one it.

Bellinger then hit what could have been a possible double play on a grounder to Justin Verlander on the mound, however, Verlander's throw to second was errant and went into the outfield and Hoerner was able to score to give the Cubs the 7-6 victory.

The Astros got out to the early lead in game two with two runs in the third. The Cubs matched them in the fifth but the Astros scored a third in the seventh and eventually took the game by that score, 3-2.

The Cubs scored all four of their runs in game three in the first inning. From their, Justine Steele, Caleb Kilian, and Tanner Scott held the Astros to just three runs in the game to give the Cubs the game, 4-3 and the series, 2-1.

The Cubs will now finish off their homestand with a four game set against the Mets (11-11/3rd NL East). The Cubs beat the Mets 2-1 earlier in April during their series in New York.

Cubs complete season series VS. Mets with 4 game sweep

The Cubs swept the Mets in their four game series and took over the top spot in the NL Central.

The Cubs won game one 6-5. The one run victory marked the club's 5th game in a row that was decided by just one run. The win also came in walkoff fashion. The 9th inning started with the game tied at 4-4. The Mets took the lead in the top half when Jeimer Candelario hit his second homerun of the day. This one came off of Hector Nerris that gave New York the 5-4 lead.

With the Mets taking the lead into the ninth, Edwin Diaz was brought in from the bullpen for the close. He was looking for his 4th save of the season in as many attempts. That would quickly prove to be a difficult task. The Cubs ended up loaded the bases against Diaz after Dansby Swanson led off the inning with a single, Christopher Morel walked and an attempted sac bunt by Bo Naylor led to a single.

Nico Hoerner then grounded into a fielders choice to second that scored Swanson. After that, Brent Suter entered in an attempt to clean up Diaz's mess. He wasnt able to as the next batter, Josh Naylor hit a walkoff sac fly into center to give the Cubs the 6-5 victory.

The rest of the games were not decided by one run as the Cubs won the rest, 6-3,4-2 and 7-2.

The Cubs will now take their five game winning streak into Seattle to face the Mariners (15-11/3rd AL West)

                    Mariners-3
                    Cubs-1

Cub's streak reaches 7 before ending in game 3 vs. Mariners

The Chicago Cubs have been on quite a tear as April draws toward it's end (13-2 in last 15 games). That is after their 6-8 start that had some thinking they were going through a world series appearance hangover.

Game one saw the Cubs win yet another one run victory as they beat Seattle, 4-3.

Game two saw the Cubs win 12-5 in a game that saw them score their most runs in a single inning thus far in 2025. They scored 7 in the seventh inning to take a commanding 11-5 lead. Juan Soto and Christopher Morel homered twice in the game while Cody Bellinger and Seiya Suzuki had one each of their own.

Game three was a pitches duel that saw a total of five hits (2 by the Cubs, 3 by the Mariners). Unfortunately for Chicago, two of the Mariners hits were solo homeruns by Luis Urias and Ryan Bliss off of Chicago's starter, Jordan Wicks. The Cubs lone run also came via a solo homerun by Cody Bellinger.

The Cubs will look to get another winning streak going as finish off April with three in LA versus the Dodger (16-15/2nd NL West).

                      GAME 2

                      Yankees 3
                      Cardinals 2

                      GAME 3

                      Yankees 3
                      Cardinals 0

                      GAME 2

Game 2 was a tight contest all the way to the end. The Cardinals had a 2-0 lead going into the 5th inning until Aaron Judge came up with a bases clearing 3 run single to put the Yankees up 1. Nestor Cortes went strong going 5 innings and only giving up 2 runs after that the bullpen did its job by shutting out the Cardinals for the rest of the game. Clay Holmes picked up his 2nd save of the playoff to close it out.

                      GAME 3

It was another pitchers duel between Marcus Stroman (6.0 IP, 2 H, 5 SO) and Sonny Gray (5.2 IP, 2 H, 2 BB, 7 SO). They both allowed their respective team to have a zero zero game going into the 8th inning. That is when Juan Soto came up with a huge 2 run homerun to break the game open. Anthony Rizzo was able to add a RBI single in the same inning to give the Yankees a 3-0 lead. The bullpen did its job the rest of the say and Holmes arrived in the 9th inning to record his 3rd save of the playoffs.

The Yankees are headed into Game 4 with all of the momentum and are looking to sweep the Cardinals and win the 2024 World Series.

2028 Season Wrap Up - Cardinals miss postseason for 2nd straight year

The Cardinals finished the season at 88-74 and missed the postseason for the 2nd straight season. The Cardinals have won 90+ games only once in the past 5 years and that was in 2025 when they made their run to the World Series. After that they lost in the Wild Card Round and then missed the playoffs the past two seasons.

Injuries certainly played a role this year with both Jordan Walker and Nolan Gorman playing less than 100 games. Tarik Skubal missed the last 6 weeks of the season with a shoulder injury and there were countless other nagging injuries that played a part, but still the Cardinals missed the postseason by a single game. The lone bright spot was 22 year old LHP Louis Turnwall winning the National League Rookie of the Year.

The front office and fanbase alike both feel a change at the managerial position for the upcoming season and immediate future. Marmol's contract expired at the end of the 2028 season.

There is a lot for the front office to sort thru this winter. From managerial decisions to putting together a club that has major league depth to fill in for injuries as they occur.

As for the 2028 season, the Rangers defeated the Dodgers to win the World Series Championship.

Cardinals hire Bruce Bochy as next manager

The Cardinals have hired Bruce Bochy to replace Oliver Marmol as their manager. The 73 year old Bochy signed a 3 year contract. Bochy hasn't managed in the past few years, but had that desire to get back into the dugout and the Cardinals were excited to land the 4 time World Series winning manager to get the Cardinals out of the rut and back to where they expect to be.

Bochy will be accompanied by mostly the same staff the Cardinals had the past few years, except for Dave Branley will be the new hitting coach replacing Jon Jay who took the same position in Oakland. Skip Schumacher and Pop Warner return as base coaches, Stephen Vogt will again be the pitching coach, and Aaron Boone will again be the director of the farm system, although he is the successor to Bochy should he retire or not be able to fulfill his 3 year contract.

Tarik Skubal and Brock Burke decline options enter free agency

Tarik Skubal and Brock Burke both declined their player options for 2029 and will become free agents. This leaves the Cardinals with 2 big holes in their pitching staff as Skubal was the ace and Burke was the left handed 8th inning option in the bullpen.

Its not surprising both declined given the state the team is in right now. Skubal has been here two seasons and has yet to reach the postseason. Burke signed last offseason, but will now venture into the free agent market hoping for a better situation.

With Skubal leaving, the Cardinals have just one locked in arm for the rotation in 2029 in youngster Louis Turnwall. Michael McGreevy and Gordon Graceffo could also be in the rotation, but McGreevy dealt with injuries last year and Graceffo struggled to be consistent.

The Cardinals were already seeking pitching depth this winter, but now that task just got a little taller.

Cardinals sign Yordan Alvarez to 5 year deal

The Cardinals have made a huge improvement this winter by signing OF/DH Yordan Alvarez to a 5 year/$175MM deal.

Alvarez had a tremendous 2028 season hitting .351 with 42 homeruns and 128 RBIs. Alvarez will most assuredly be the DH for the Cardinals as they are loaded with options in the outfield. This signing will likely mean that Alec Burleson will be moved at some point this winter.

The 3-4-5 portion of the lineup would most likely be Alvarez, Walker, and Gorman. Not bad.
