    2024 Chicago Cubs 09/23-09/25

Overall Record:105-54 (1st NL Central/15.0 over St. Louis)

    Game Results

    Game 1
    Cubs-7
    Phillies-3

    Game 2
    Phillies-5
    Cubs-2

    Game 3
    Phillies-6
    Cubs-3

Phils put Cubbies on notice for possible postseason matchup

The Philadelphia Phillies further proved that they will be a tough matchup in the post season if the Cubs faceoff with them in the playoffs. The Phillies won their late September series, 2-1 and in fact, they won the season series, 4-2.

The Cubs lone victory in their July matchup came in the first game and that took extra innings for the Cubs to come out victorious, 6-5. This most recent series was no different. Sure, the Cubs won 7-3 but that was thanks to four 11th inning runs with the Cubs closer, Carl Edwards JR pitching a perfect 10th and 11th innings to secure the win for Chicago.

Games two and three were both three run losses for the Cubs as they struggled to get runs across the plate.

The Cubs overall record is impressive and with three games to go, they will likely be the #1 overall seed in the NL as they still lead the Braves by two games. However, September has seen them lose just two series. Those series have been against possible playoff opponents, the Los Angeles Dodgers and Philadelphia Phillies. The Cubs did win one September series against a playoff bound team, the New York Yankees who they took 2 of 3 from September 6th- September 8th.

The Cubs will now finish the season against Cincinnati (78-81/4th NL Central/27.0 back). Chicago needs just one win in that series to secure the #1 seed in the NL.

In regards to the previously mentioned races, Arizona holds a two game lead on the Dodgers for the NL West Crown, the Astros and Rangers are still tied at 92-67 and the Blue Jays (79-80) are still one game up on the Mariners (79-91) for the third AL wild card spot.

The Cardinals open the 2025 campaign with a 3 game sweep in Seattle.

      Game 1 - W 2-1 (Sonny Gray)
      Game 2 - W 7-2 (Matt Manning)
      Game 3 - W 11-2 (Walker Buehler)

It's a great start to the season and Wilson Contreras and Nolan Gorman each have 3 homeruns to start the season.

It's a big day in St. Louis as the Cardinals host the Arizona Diamondbacks for a 3 game series. The Cardinals beat the Diamondbacks 2-1 in the Wildcard round in 2024.

      Game 1 - Steven Matz
      Game 2 - Miles Mikolas
      Game 3 - Sonny Gray

I know what you're thinking. A dominant stretch with a lost series? Stick with me.

Both losses to LA were 1-run games. 1-0 and 2-1, I like to think of it as lights out defense instead of bad offense.

        Game 3, I win 19-2 with 25 hits.

Game 1 against Colorado, normal 4-0 win. Still not dominating. Then games 2 & 3 happen. 14-3 and 15-1. Doubles, triples, homers, walks, everything. Both of those games I hit for the team cycle (which I know isn't a thing).

I added it all up and I outscored the Rockies 33-4, and outhit them 51-22.

Including that Dodgers game, over 4 games I outscored the other team 52-6 and outhit them 76-28.

I don't think I've ever had that much success in a 4-game span.

Do you feel like Coors field factored in or it was more anomaly than Coors. Or maybe it was, ''That's baseball.''?

One more ''or'', or it was a little of each?

Combination of. The outlier at Dodger Stadium and the normal game at Coors kinda throw everything off.

Full transparency, I do play most of my DD games at Coors for that reason (when I need to rack up stats quickly).

2024 Chicago Cubs End Of Regular Season Update

Overall Record: 108-54 (1st in MLB!!!)

              Game Results

              Game 1
              Cubs-3
              Reds-2

              Game 2
              Cubs-3
              Cubs-0

              Game 3
              Cubs-4
              Reds-2

              162 up, 162 down

Thats it folks! The 2024 regular season is in the books and the Cubs have emerged as the #1 overall team. The Cubs record of 108-54 is the best in the MLB with both the Twins and Braves finishing with 104 wins. To reach that mark, the Cubs swept the Reds in their final series of the year.

The Cubs will now await the winners of the four and five matchup between the Phillies (97-65) and the Diamondbacks (92-70).

It was a great season for Chicago but it wasnt as dominate as their record would suggest. The Cubs ended up tied for first in the MLB in saves which means, for the most part almost 40 % of their wins were decided by three runs or less.

A sad note of the season is that Patrick Wisdom entered the record books. That would normally be great but not in this instance, he finished 2024 having played in 161 of 162 games but, a big but...he finished with 223 strikeouts which ties him for the most by a single player in a single MLB season. Still, his power has served the Cubs well as he finished with 52 homeruns (1st MLB) and 121 RBIs (4th MLB).

Cody Bellinger ended up hitting the 40 homerun mark for just the second time in his career he also was the only other Cubs to reach 100 RBIs with the 100th coming on his last bat of the 2024 season.

Daniel Palencia was called up via September call ups and will stay with the team in the playoff roster. His 100ish MPH fastball gives the Cubs some power pitching which most of the bullpen is missing. Drew Smyly will be on the playoff roster but doesnt look to be in the running for much playing time as age is catching up to him.

Carl Edwards JR will be the closer for the Cubs in the postseason after he was called up midseason to take the place of struggling Adbert Alzolay.

Re: MLB The Show 24 Franchise Mode Discussion Thread

Welp, it's been a heck of a run with the Rockies...I'm closing in on July in year 4, my first round pick from year 1 is making a major impact, and I'm fighting tooth and nail with the Dodgers for 1st in the West.

But...I finally got a PS5, which means that the Show '22 will (likely) be retired.

All in all, it was a super fun turnaround for the Rockies, who went:
                  Year 1: 68-94
Year 2: 92-70 (lost in Wild Card Game)
Year 3: 104-58 (Won NL West, Won WS in game 7 against the Yankees!!!)
Year 4: 54-20 (Currently 0.5 games back of the Dodgers for 1st in the West)

Seeing the growth from my prospects and drafted players, as well as some high potential prospects fizzling out was probably one of the most fun things for me (winning do-or-die games in the NLDS and World Series was #1 though!), but with the new draft, and a few other features calling, it's probably time to hang it up.

Absolutely a sad day, but I'm definitely looking forward to starting a new franchise with one of Toronto, Colorado, or, I may even move Oakland.

Year 2 Reds - finally made the postseason winning the central with a 89-73 record. Got the 3-seed in first round. Bumped up to default legend in yr 2 so it feels pretty darn good. These young Reds have been a blast to play with and develop.

Juan Soto’s chase of the home run record is alive and well despite a bit of a slow down in June. Home run 35 was hit on June 20th to help the Yankees sweep the Orioles in New York.

                        The quest for history continues…

Cubs control NLDS after winning first two at home

Great pitching and pretty good hitting. That has the been the moto of the Chicago Cubs in 2024 and thus far in their portion of the NLDS, that has remained true.

In game one, Justin Steele went six innings allowed just four hits and one run while he also struck out six. He also walked one.

Shota Imanga was just as good if not better in game two as he went seven full, allowed 5 hits, 2 runs and struck out seven. That was despite a 45 minute rain delay.

The Cubs got on the board first in both games with two runs in the second inning. In game one, Josh Naylor and Christopher Morel singled homeruns to give the Cubs the 2-0 lead.

In game two, it was Morel again who knocked in two with a double.

From there, the Cubs were able to hold off Arizona to take the 2-0 lead in the series as they head to Arizona for the next two.

The projected starters for game three are Jordan Wicks and Eduardo Rodriguez as Chicago will be looking for the sweep while Arizona will be looking to stay alive.

                            Cubs complete sweep of D-Backs

The Cubs have completed the sweep of the Diamondbacks in the NLDS. The first two games were light on offense with the pitching game on point. Game three was different.

After losing the first two, the Arizona Diamondbacks got on the board first in game three in the first inning when Randal Grichuk hit an automatic double that scored one. That also gave the D-Backs runners on 2nd and 3rd with just two out. Unfortunately for Arizona, Eugenio Suarez flew out to end the threat. The Cubs then went on to tie it in the second inning on a Christopher Morel bloop rbi single. They then broke it open in the third inning as they scored five. That was off of five consecutive hits to include four extra base hits.

The offense didnt stop there as they Cubs tallied 21 total hits and 16 runs as they took the game, 16-4 to take the series, 3-0.

The Cubs season continues while the D-Backs's is over. The Cubs will now head to the NLCS where they will face the winner of the NLDS series between the Atlanta Braves and the Los Angeles Dodgers. Atlanta currently leads the series, 2-1.

The Cubs were 3-3 againt LA and 2-4 against ATL in the regular season.

Chicago got here by sweeping the Arizona Diamondbacks in the NLDS. The Braves split their first two with the Dodgers as they won 3-0 and lost, 3-2. They then went on to win both games in Los Angeles, 6-4 and 8-6.

The Braves were one of if not the only team to have a winning record versus the Cubs in the regular season as they took 4 of the teams' 6 matchups.

                                Game Result
                                Cubs-7

Cubs go back to back to back to back

Yeah, thats right. The Cubs hit four homeruns in arow in the eighth inning to cement their game one victory.

Joe Jimenez entered the game in that inning for his first post season performance and it was a rough one. He faced the minimum three hitters and all three, Seiya Suzuki, Cody Bellinger and Patrick Wisdom homered off of him. Pierce Johnson replaced him and on his first pitch, allowed the loudest homerun of them all as Dansby Swanson took his pitch 458 feet over the left field wall to give the Cubs the 7-1 lead. That would hold as Mark Leiter JR pitched a
perfect 9th inning with two strikeouts.

The Cubs will now put their perfect postseason on the record in game two.
