The Cubs and Yankees combined for sixteen homeruns in their only three game series of the year. Both Clubs took advantage of the windy city as the Cubs took the series, two games to one.
The Yankees were the first to strike in the first inning of game one when Aaron Judge hit his first of four series homeruns. He also hit one over the fence in each of the three games. His first also knocked in Gleyber Torres who had doubled to leadoff the game.
Christopher Morel hit his 29th of the season in the second inning but hit was only a solo shot that got the Cubs within one. Then, in the fifth, Chicago struck for five runs to take the 6-2 lead. Two of those came off of back to back homeruns by Patrick Wisdom (49) and Dansby Swanson (28).
The Cubs would then get out to a 7-2 lead in the 6th before the Yankees would have a big inning of their own in the 7th as they scored four. Chicago answered back in the eighth however as they scored the final three runs of the game to take it, 10-6.
Daniel Palencia was called up for Septemeber and was given a start in game two. At first, he looked really good as he got through four scoreless innings despite giving up a decent amount of hits. But those hits turned to runs in the 5th and sixth innings as he ended up giving up five which was an amount the Cubs werent able to make up as they went on to lose the game, 8-3.
Gleyber Torres got the homerun train off to an early start in game three when he hit Jordan Wicks very first pitch over the left field wall. This game was a battle throughout that Chicago ended up winning, 6-5.
They had gone into the 9th inning with a 6-3 lead but Carl Edwards JR ended up giving up a two run Homer to Trent Grisham (7, 2nd of game). He was however able to strikeout DJ LeMahieu to end the game and collect his 14th save of the season.
The Cubs will now hit the road as they head to Los Angeles to take on the Dodgers (82-61/1st NL West/0.5 over Arizona).
** The Cubs and Braves have now clinched a playoff birth but have not technically locked up their divisions.
