Cardinals send 4 to the All-Star Game

The Cardinals will have 4 representatives at the 2025 All Star Game in Atlanta.

      3B Nolan Arenado
      SP Max Fried
      SP Sonny Gray
      CL Ryan Helsley

American League defeats National League 5-3 in Mid-Summer Classic

The American League defeated the National League 5-3 at Truist Park in Atlanta. The AL jumped out in the 2nd inning when Yordan Alvarez launched a solo homerun into left field making it 1-0. The AL would add another run when Corey Seager singled home a run in the 3rd. The NL got back in it thanks to a pair of Braves with Michael Harris hitting a solo shot in the bottom of the 3rd inning and Ronald Acuna Jr doubled home a run to tie the game at 2.

But in the 7th, the AL would go back ahead when Aaron Judge drove home 2 with a double and they added one in the 8th when Vlad Jr singled to score Bobby Witt Jr. The NL put up a run in the 9th when Fernando Tatis Jr doubled home a run, but that would be all the NL could put up.

      Cardinals representatives:

      Max Fried - IP 2K
      Sonny Gray - IP, H, BB, K
Nolan Arenado - 0 for 2 with strikeout and groundout
Ryan Helsley - DID NOT PITCH

First Blockbuster trade of the trade season occurred over All-Star Break

The first blockbuster trade of the trade season occurred during the All-Star Break and involved the Pirates and Guardians.

The Pirates would send SS O'Neill Cruz to the Guardians in exchange for RHP Mario Cortes and SS Khalil Watson.

The Guardians get the SS they are missing from the lineup and 3 years control of O'Neill Cruz who is hitting .278 on the year with 15 homeruns and 45 RBIs.

The Pirates get a great return on Cruz landing the #1 SP prospect in baseball in Mario Cortes and then the #16 SS prospect in Khalil Watson. The Pirates now have 3 of the Top 5 prospects in all of baseball with Mario Cortes topping that list.

            2025 World Series

            Game #3: Series Tied 1-1

The Cardinals destroyed the Royals in Game 3 8-1 to take a 2-1 series lead in St. Louis. The Royals were left speechless at the plate, only mustering 2 hits. Walker Buehler only lasted 4.2 innings and gave up 10 hits and 4 runs.

            Game #4: Cardinals Lead 2-1

The bats woke up, and Michael Wacha threw a great outing as the Royals evened up the series at 2-2, winning 7-2. Wacha went 7 innings and only allowed 2 runs. Bobby Witt Jr. went 2-4, including a HR and RBI.

            Game #5: Series Tied 2-2

Lars Nootbaar went 2 for 3 with a HR and 3 RBI as the Cardinals took a 3-2 series lead. Cole Ragans only lasted 4.1 innings after giving up 5 hits and 5 runs.

            Game #6: Cardinals lead 3-2

In a very eerily similar outcome of Game 6 of the 1985 World Series (minus the missed call at first base), the Royals shocked the Cardinals in the 9th to win the game 8-7. The Cardinals were 3 outs away from the World Series until the Royals fought back with 2 runs to win.

Next up: The Offseason will be interesting for this squad as they have some key roster decisions to make. Who can they keep, and who will have to say goodbye?

What a ride! I haven't gotten this deep in a franchise in a long time. Documenting it here in this thread was a very enjoyable experience. I love reading everyone's progress, and I appreciate you checking out mine. I plan on doing the Offseason in a month or so once the new shine of College Football 25 wears down (if that happens). Thanks!

Game 2 of opening series against the Brewers Mets win wild one 11-10 to go to 2-0. Nimmo hits walk off two run HR in the bottom of the tenth.

Game 3 Brewers win 5-2 so Mets win series and stand at 2-1 on the season.

Next series vs Tigers... Game 1 Mets win 8-1 as they played HR Derby with 5 HRs. Game 2 Mets win 7-6 in back n forth affair. Game 3 Mets lose 4-0.

Mets stand at 4-2 after two series tied with Phillies for first place. Nimmo is smoking with 4 HRs. Biggest surprise around the league is the Braves at 1-5 with worst record. Lindor and Alonso are both on injured list.

Cubs Sweep Brewers for second time in 2024

With the sweep, the Cubs have now won their season series versus the Brewers in 2024. The two will meet again in mid July to end the season series but even if the Cubs would suffer their first 2024 sweep, they would still win the season series.

In the most recent series, the Cubs got out hit 30-19 but their hits came in more timely fashion. Patrick Wisdom got his power swing going in the series as he hit a homer in game one and two in game two to bring his season total to 34 which still has him at the top of the MLB.

The Cubs starting pitching was also great as Jameson Taillon, Shota Imagana and Justin Steele all made it through 7 innings in their respective starts.

Now, after a day off, the Cubs will return home to face off with the Phillies (46-38/2nd NL East) The Braves still lead the East and the majors as a whole as they sit at 61-22.

                    Third times the charm??

The Cubs are still searching for their everyday first baseman. Matt Mervis started off the year in that role but after 120 at-bats, his .175 batting average left a lot to be desired. Michael Busch was then called up while Mervis was sent down to triple A. Busch got his chance and had some good at-bats in his 119 but overall, he was even worse.

The Cubs have entertained the thought about trading for a first baseman to include the Guardians Josh Naylor but Cleveland is asking for a lot.

For now, Dominic Smith has been called up to take over that role. In five years of service, Smith has a .248 average and an OPS of .721. If the Cubs can figure out first base, their team will be just about complete.

Cardinals acquire Lucas Giolito from Red Sox

The Cardinals have made their first significant trade this season acquiring RHP Lucas Giolito from the Red Sox in exchange for RHP Max Rajcic and 2B/IF Raynel Delgado.

The Cardinals were in need of rotation help after releasing Miles Mikolas earlier and then recently signed Kyle Gibson both due to poor performance. They were targeting Patrick Sandoval of the Angels, but the asking price was far too high even if Sandoval came with an extra year of control.

Giolito was an all-star this year and his acquisition means the Cardinals will have 3 current all-stars in their rotation with Max Fried and Sonny Gray being the other two. Giolito is 10-7 on the year, but owns a 2.52 ERA and a WHIP barely over 1.

The Red Sox get in return the Cardinals 16th ranked prospect in Max Rajcic. The 23 year old was having a solid year at AAA Memphis where he was 6-2 with a 2.98 ERA. Raynel Delgado gives the Red Sox more depth in the infield and a player that is actually major league ready.

The Cardinals likely aren't done adding to their team for the 2nd half of the season with relief pitching being the main focus, although they could dip into a back up infielder with Brendan Donovan on the IL until the end of the year.

Gotta love it when reality and house rules align.

Since Luis Guillorme was traded IRL a while back, I decided I wanted to move him in my dynasty. DFA'd him to make room on the 40-man for Charlie Culberson and then recalled Culberson. Culberson is actually rated higher and also brings more positional flexibility, so the move makes sense. And I went with the story line that Guillorme requested the move since he's not happy with his lack of playing time.

Put Guillorme on the block and the Mariners were one of the three interested teams. Using the trade finder, they offered up Brian Anderson, who's with the Braves IRL.

Guillorme is off to Seattle, where he's now starting at 3B against right-handers. Culberson is just happy to be back in the big leagues. And Anderson takes Culberson's spot at Gwinnett. Win-win-win.

One other stat from my Braves dynasty: Ozzie Albies likes playing against Chicago. He's homered in all six games we've played against the White Sox and Cubs this season. Eight of his 13 homers have come against Chicago teams.
