            Thanks!

Not the most realistic of an off-season, but I figured if I had the budget, why not make a splash.

              2024 Chicago Cubs 06/04-06/05

              Overall Record:43-20 (1st NL Central/8.0 over Pittsburgh)

              Game Results:

              Game 1
              Cubs-8
              White Sox-3

              Game 2
              Cubs-8
              Whit Sox-5

Cubs sweep two game series against cross town rival White Sox

This was the only scheduled meeting between the two teams from Chicago in 2024. The two teams are having polar opposite seasons thus far in 2024. The Cubs are now 43-20 while the White Sox are 18-45.

For what its worth, the White Sox made these two games some what competitive.

Sorta....The Cubs got out to a 6-1 lead in game one behind homers by Nico Hoerner, Ian Happ and Dansby Swanson. Hoerner had two in that span to bring his season total to six. Swanson also added a second in the game for his 13th of the year as the Cubs took the 8-3 victory.

Swanson also homered in game two to give himself second place on the Roster but he still remains well behind Patrick Wisdom's MLB leading 25. The White Sox tied the game in the seventh inning after they scored twice in both the sixth and seventh. Three runs by the Cubs in the eighth inning game them the lead and Adbert Alzolay secured his 18th save of the season in the 9th inning. Alzolay currently sits at 5th in the NL in the category with David Bednar of the Pirates sitting in first with 25.

The Cubs now hit the road as they travel to Cincinatti to face off with the Reds (30-33/5th NL Central) who they opened June against in Chicago with a 2-1 series victory.

                Royals Trade Update

The Minnesota Twins have offered the Kansas City Royals 2B Willi Castro for 3B Maikel Garcia. The Royals have accepted the trade. Castro is currently batting .328 and can play multiple positions that will help while Kevin Kiermaier is still out with an injury. Garcia was only batting .095 but is great in the field.

Texas Rangers update Season 3 MOM. The up and down 1st half of the season continues. We just entered into the month of July and we are 37 and 47. 8 games out of first and 7 and half out of the wild card. The pitching continues to be the issue. Bieber is 12 and 1 and leads all pitchers in Cy Young voting. Mahle was pitching well but he landed on the IL. We continue to fight and I have put several of the guys on my 40 man on the trade block. Hopefully we get some hits. Offensively we have 4 guys on pace for over 35 hrs. Seagar, Guerrero, Soto, and Jung

Just finished a season in franchise mode with the Cincinnati Reds. I’ve always been a “play every game” guy but outside of a 5-season run on MVP 05 (I still fire it up about once a year), I’ve never gotten through an MLB season. I decided I was going to play 1-2 games of every series and sim the others as I wanted to make some progress.

Well, I made progress, completing the season in about 3 months of owning the game. I was hoping to get through a season over the course of a few years, so this was warp speed. This game is super fun and my passion for baseball has been revived a bit. Playing the video games keeps you in tune with the real game and players. I had lost track of things the last few years.

Anyway, finished 88-74 and nabbed the 3rd WC spot. Funnily enough, finished the season at Chicago and will remain there to play the Cubs (91-71), who won the division.

I have no idea what’s going to happen. I could just as easily go on a deep playoff run as be out in a sweep in the wild card series. It’s been a fun ride and can’t wait to keep it going.

MLB The Show 24 Franchise Mode Discussion Thread

We have currently won 6 straight and are just a game behind the Brewers in the Central and good top wildcard over Reds and Cubs.

Injuries continue to plague us as we lost Masyn Winn for 2 weeks due to shoulder strain. Already without Brendan Donovan until around 4th of July so we’re turning to Cesar Prieto and Thomas Saggese to play 2nd base at this point.

Trades are starting to happen around the league as we’re in mid-June. We are searching for help with the rotation and bullpen as well as backup catcher. Targeted Carson Kelly but Phillies refuse to trade him.

Pitching market scarce with so many teams jumbled together in both leagues for wildcard. Available players have high return asking prices.

Next up is 3 games with padres in St.Louis. Padres in midst of second straight disappointing season.

Man, playoffs can be stressful just like real life. Got to the postseason in year 1 with my Braves franchise. Limped in a bit, getting swept by the Royals the final weekend (granted, I'd locked up my playoff seeding so I was taking it easy a bit).

Played the Wild Card series in Atlanta against the Cubs. Took Game 1 behind a stellar performance by Strider and the bullpen, not allowing even a single extra base hit. Game 2, the Cubs capitalized on a shaky performance by Max Fried.

Game 3 was do or die. Started this season over 2 months ago, and it came down to this game. Tbh, I was kinda nervous. Reynaldo Lopez went for me, and he just couldn't find the zone. Ended up only going 2.1 innings, allowing 5 runs and 3 walks, plus a HBP. Threw 78 pitches to get 7 outs. I entered the bottom of the 3rd Inning down 5-0 having not had a baserunner.

Kelenic led off the 3rd with a single. Few batters later, Michael Harris put me on the board with a 3-run HR (his first hit of the series). Couple batters later, Ozuna hit his 2nd HR of the series to make it 5-4. Next inning I tied the game on an Albies HR, and then took the lead on a throwing error by Nico Hoerner.

Ended up tacking on 5 more runs, on a Harris RBI double, and 2 more HRs (solo and 3-run) by Ozuna to win 11-6, and get a trip to play the Dodgers in the NLDS. The bullpen was great. Dylan Lee pitched 2.2 scoreless innings, and Tyler Matzek added 2 more scoreless innings, between them only allowing 3 baserunners. Ozuna ended up with a 2.083 OPS and 4 HR in the 3 game series. But when I was down 5-0, I really thought my season was over.

We only take the 3rd game of the 3 game series vs Washington. Thankfully, the rest of the division isn't winning right now either as we hold a 3.5 game lead over the 2nd place Cubs.

We finish July with 3 against a very good Texas Rangers team and then travel to Chicago to face the Cubs for a 4 game series.

Cardinals win streak ends at 8 with loss to Padres in series finale

The Cardinals saw their win streak end at 8 games after losing the series finale to the Padres on Sunday. The Cardinals had a 3 run lead that broke down in the 8th and then lost in the 9th when Jordan Hicks and Ryan Helsley both faltered on the mound.

Alec Burleson continues to stay in the lineup swinging a hot bat as he recorded 7 RBIs in the series. Lars Nootbaar also continues to be hot at the dish. One concern remains Nolan Arenado and Nolan Gorman who have both seen their averages plummet from near/over .300 into the .260 range over the last several weeks. Arenado is hitting just .159 with RISP.

Next up is a 3 game series with the Marlins at home before the Cardinals hit the road to close out the month of June.

                                Royals Outlast Guardians in 11

The Royals won the opener of the series over the Guardians in Kansas City 2-1 in 11 innings. Bobby Witt Jr. ended the game with a sac fly, bringing in newly acquired Willi Castro for the victory. Each offense was slowed down by great starting pitching. The teams combined for only 11 hits, including 2 HR. Michael Wacha (2-0 4.18 ERA) went 7 innings and only gave up 3 hits with 1 run and had 6 strikeouts in the no decision. Cleveland 3B Tyler Freeman suffered damed knee cartilage during extra innings and will be out 1-2 months.
