    2024 Chicago Cubs 05/10-05/12

Overall Record:30-11 (1st NL Central/5.0 over St. Louis)

    Game Results

    Game 1
    Cubs-11
    Pirates-0

    Game 2
    Cubs-8
    Pirates-1

    Game 3
    Cubs-11
    Pirates-1

Cubs dominate Pirates to increase divisional lead

The Chicago Cubs outscored the second place Pittsburgh Pirates 30-2 in a dominate sweep that showed the rest of the division and MLB that the Cubbies are for real in 2024.

Pitching was lights out and the offense was on fire. The offense was a welcome return to dominance after their weak showing against San Diego in their previous series.

The whole team was good at the plate but two players stood out. Those players were Seiya Suzuki and Patrick Wisdom.

Suzuki went 8-15 in the series with 6 RBIs. Wisdom went 7-15 with 7 rbis. Wisdom also hit a homer in game two and two more in game three to bring his season total to 16 to put himself just one behind Austin Riley in the NL and second overall in the MLB as well.

The Cubs also became the first team to 30 wins and will now travel to Atlanta to face the closest team in the Braves (28-11/1st NL East/4.0 over Philadelphia)

Re: MLB The Show 24 Franchise Mode Discussion Thread

I just have to say, I dogged last years game with the CPU striking out too much. Gave up playing pretty early on. This year I am having my most enjoyable experience within a franchise mode from any sports game. I'm not playing all 162 (only first and last game of series), but this is the first time I will finish a season.

I am so much involved that I can't see myself purchasing 2025 and start over. They'd have to fix CPU bullpen management for me to actually buy it at this point. I do plan to take a long break from the game after season one. IDK how long, but possibly until Spring next year when I get the itch again. Especially during football season and I'm diving into college football game.

I'll be playing game three @ Nationals tonight. They won game two so rubber match it is against one of the worst offenses in the league in my season. Love this game, and I hope everyone finds some enjoyment from it as I have.

Trying to stay busy until NCAA next month I decided to fire back up The Show

          Rolling with my Guards

First series in Oakland, took a 3-1 series win.

Game 1 - Bieber went the full 9 innings for a 7-1 Cleveland win

          Game 2 - Tanner Bibee went 5 for a Guards 2-1 win

Game 3 - Gavin Williams lasted 6 and gave up 3 runs for a 3-2 Oakland win

Game 4 - Tristian McKenzie took the mound and gave 6 great innings allowing 2 hits to lead us to a 4-1 win.

Had 4 Guards go yard in the opening series -

          Steven Kwan
          Brayan Rocchio
          Estevan Florial

CPU LAD SP Tyler Glasnow threw a no-hitter vs CPU Colorado Rockies on 6/20/24! 9.0 IP, 0H, 0R, 2BB, 6K. Dodgers only won the game 1-0.

After holding out as long as I could I caved and bought the game and am not regretting it at all. Currently playing as the Baltimore Orioles (love the Yanks but boy do I also love alternate jerseys…) and we’re currently sitting 46-30, good enough for 1st place in the AL East.

Catcher Adley Rutschman is hitting an AL best .326, and SP Corbin Burnes is 2nd in Cy Young voting, sporting a 8-1 record, 2.03 ERA, and a .93 WHIP.

I’m likely going to add a reliever come deadline and then see how far this young core can go. Shoutout the franchise excel workbook as well, its really helped make franchise mode way more immersive!

Cubs struggle in series loss to Braves

The Chicago Cubs still have the most wins in the MLB. However, they do not have the best winning percentage. With their recent series loss to the Braves, Atlanta has taken over the top spot in that category (.714 Braves and .705 Cubs).

Realistically, it wasnt all that far off from being the Cubs first suffered sweep of 2024. Atlanta's starer combination of Charlie Morton, Spencer Strider and Max Fried baffled Chicago hitters. Between the starters, they allowed just twelve hits in 17 innings pitched.

Overall, the offense had a bad series. They followed up their 32 run series against the Pirates with just 8 against the Braves.

As baseball works, the Cubs will now return home to face off with the same two teams in Chicago. First, they will welcome Pittsburgh (25-19/3rd NL Central) to town for a four game series.

Haven't updated in a few (again) but we have entered the month of May in the 2025 season. We currently lead a tightly compacted NL Central Division by a game over the Reds. The Brewers are 2 back, the Cubs 3 back and the Pirates 3.5 back.

Dealing with an injury to Brendan Donovan that will keep him out of the lineup until after the All-Star Break. Masyn Winn was recalled from Memphis to play 2nd base everyday as we're not moving Tommy Edman off of shortstop. We are getting Dylan Carlson back in about a week or so after he's been out for roughly a month.

Miles Mikolas and Jack Flaherty are both struggling at the moment, moreso Mikolas than Flaherty. Bullpen took a hit with Zack Thompson landing on 15 Day IL due to shoulder issue. Sonny Gray and Max Fried continue to offer a great 1-2 combination. Walker Buehler is turning things around after shaky start.

We just finished a 3 game series with the Dodgers, which we lost and are now in Milwaukee for a 3 game series with the Brewers.

Do you keep gameplay injury slider at 7?

Re: MLB The Show 24 Franchise Mode Discussion Thread

So we are in late June and had a 3 game series vs the Atlanta Braves who are 33 games over .500.

The Phillies, who are also having a good year are 11 games behind Atlanta, that's how good the Braves are this season.

Game 1, Matz gets thrashed as does the bullpen and we lose 9-3.

Game 2, Sean Light, the rookie who was called up due to the Lance Lynn injury, pitched well, only allowing 1 run over 5 innings. We eventually would lose 4-1 in 11 innings.

Game 3, Sonny Gray is on the mound and he would allow 2 runs in 5 innings with 10 strikeouts. Willson Contreras would tie the game with a 2 run bomb and once again we would head to extra innings. Top of the 10th and Matt Olsen would hit one to the LF wall, the runner on 2b would try to take 3rd base, but Donovan would throw a perfect strike to Arenado for the double play.

We get out of the 10th clean and Nootbaar would strike out, Arenado would send one to the CF wall and Contreras would come up and take the first pitch he saw over the LF wall for the walkoff, 4-2 win.

We managed to salvage 1 game out of the series and I've never been so happy to see a team leave St. Louis.

Next up is a 3 game series vs the Reds as we have a 3.5 lead over the Brewers and a 5 game lead over the Reds as we are just about to close the books on June.

Texas Rangers Update Season 3 MOM

We are 20 games in to season 3 and things are not going as expected. We are 8 and 12 and sit 3 and a half games out in the division. The biggest story for my season so far is that Evan Carter who was hitting almost 400 dislocated his ankle and will miss at least 6 months. Devastating blow as he was the catalyst in our offense. We should have enough to overcome him however as Juan Soto returned from the 10 day IL and Wyatt Langford is tearing up the league right now. As expected my pitching has been the issue. Shane Bieber at the top of the rotation has been good but Chris Paddack, Jon Lauer, Andrew Heaney and Jacob Degrom have not. My pen has been shaky. Sborz, our closer is a hit and miss and Burke, my set up guy has an ERA over 10. Still early but we need to pitch better if we want to make the run I expected towards another playoff run

                            Cubs-8

Cubs and Pirates battle it out for series tie.

The Chicago Cubs just two series' ago swept the Pittsburgh Pirates and outscored them 30-2. That was not the case in their most recent four game series.

Chicago did win the first game but that took an eighth inning homerun by Yan Gomes (5) to take the 3-2 lead. Adbert Alzolay then came in and got his 11th save of the season.

Pittsburgh then won games two and three, 4-1 and 5-4. The 5-4 victory came in extra innings (10) when Jack Suwinski hit a single to knock in ghost runner for the Pirates. David Bednar then came in and was great as he struck out two and allowed no hits for his twentieth save of the season.

In game four, Chicago got their revenge of sorts as they also won in extras (11) as strategic pitching changes and two scoreless extra inning innings led to a Christopher Morel successful suicide squeeze that scored Nick Madrigal as Chicago walked it off to tie the series at 2-2.

Chicago will now face off with the Braves for the second time in two weeks to close out their homestand.

Cubs searching for solution at first

As good as the Cubs have been, they have struggled to get much production from their everyday first baseman. Matt Mervis started the season in that position but was recently sent down after through roughly a month and half, he went 21-120 for a .175 batting average . Michael Busch was recalled to take his spot and thus far, he has gone 0-16.

Chicago also has Dominic Smith and Garrett Cooper in AAA but may look elsewhere such as free agency where Brandon Belt still sits unsigned.
