Braves Take Two Out of Three in the Windy City, Win Series Against White Sox

The Braves got their first series win of the 2024 season by beating the White Sox in the first and third game of the series. The two wins were major blowouts, while the loss was nearly an epic come from behind effort in the ninth inning.

The first game saw Charlie Morton pitch seven scoreless innings with seven strikeouts and one walk while allowing seven hits, but the story was the offense. After hitting two homers in the first three games against the Phillies, Austin Riley hit three alone in this game. Sean Murphy hit one himself among three hits, while Jared Kelenic and Orlando Arcia also landed in the bleachers. The Braves won this game 11-0.

Game two saw the White Sox's Erick Fredde only allow one run over seven dominant innings. The offense did score three runs in the ninth inning thanks to two homers from Marcell Ozuna and Sean Murphy, but it was in vain. Bryce Elder really struggled to find an out pitch in this one, as the White Sox did a great job of fighting off pitches until they got one to square up. Elder allowed 5 in 4+ innings. Reynaldo Lopez and Aaron Bummer were good out of the bullpen, but the Braves lost the game 5-4.

Game three was much like the first, with the Braves launching five homers. This included two more from Riley, giving him seven through the first six games of the season. Michael Harris, Ozuna, and Kelenic joined him. Spencer Strider took the mound and struck out 14 batters in seven innings of one run ball. Braves won the rubber match 13-1.

The Braves stand at 3-3 and will be traveling for their first homestand of the season, starting with the Arizona Diamondbacks.

      Nationals 2024 season kicks off.

The Nationals made the trip back home north from Florida with their 26 man roster set to take on opening day. Couple surprises for the ball club when it comes to the roster.

A couple late spring training additions include Reliever Brad Hand, INF Jonathon Schoop and OFer Eddie Rosario, they all made the opening day roster.

The rotation is made up of Josiah Gray, Mackenzie Gore, Joan Adon (After having arguably the best spring out of all of our starters), Jake Irvin (Posted a sub-2.50 ERA in 5 starts in spring), and rounded out by Thad Ward. A very notable name is not in the rotation not apart of our organization anymore. We finally cut ties with Patrick Corbin. He was expected to compete for a rotation spot, but after posted at 10+ ERA in 22+ innings, we thought it was time we move on. Although we have to take on that large contract, we don’t see a long term future fit, so we are okay cutting him loose early.

Our bullpen is made up of the following; long reliever Mitchell Parker, lefty relievers Richard Bleier and Brad Hand. Righties in the pen are Kyle Finnegan, Jordan Weems, Matt Barnes, Dylan Floro and closer Hunter Harvey.

Our lineup is going to look similar to this:
      CJ Abrams - SS
      Lane Thomas -CF
      Joey Menesses - 1B
      Joey Gallo - LF
      Eddie Rosario - DH
      Stone Garrett - RF
      Keibert Ruiz - C
      Ildemaro Vargas - 3B
      Luis Garcia / Jonathon Schoop - 2B

Our bench guys will be catcher Riley Adams, Nasir Nunez and outfielder Alex Call.

The season is under way and we are taking on the Reds in Cincy.

NATIONALS COME FROM BEHIND TO WIN ON OPENING DAY!

The Nationals played spoiler on opening day, erasing a 2 run deficit in the 9th inning to defeat the Reds. The Nats got the scoring started early as Joey Gallo hit a pair of no doubt HRs in the first few innings of the game. CJ Abrams also homered for the nats. Hunter Harvey collects his first win of the year, while Lucas Sims is charged with the lost on opening day.TJ Freidl led Cincy with 3 hits. Will Benson, Matt McLain, Jake Farley and Spencer steer all had 2 hits apiece.

Game two will be Mackenzie Gore vs Nick Lodolo.

I plan on only playing 15-20 games in the first year, so I’ll be playing 1, simming 11 games. So I can quickly get to the draft. Hoping to remember to post briefs summary’s of everything going on

Cardinals Split Season Opening 4 Game Series with Dodgers

The Cardinals (2-2) split their opening 4 game series with the Dodgers in Los Angeles to begin the 2024 season. The Dodgers had already split a 2 game series with the Padres in Korea.

The Cardinals won on Opening Day 8-5, a day in which the wind was blowing out around 12mph and the ball was jumping off the bats. Dylan Carlson would deposit the very first pitch he saw from Tyler Glasnow into the right field seats for his 1st homerun of the season. Unexpected Brandon Crawford would hit a 2 run homerun later in the 6th and Willson Contreras would add a solo of his own in the 8th. Sonny Gray was good as he fanned Shohei Ohtani twice in 3 at bats. Freddie Freeman was the Dodger star going 4-4 with a pair of doubles, but Gray would earn his first victory as a Cardinal in the win.

Game 2 was more relaxed with the Dodgers actually winning in 10 innings when Max Muncy singled home Gavin Lux off of Giovanny Gallegos for the walkoff win. Kyle Gibson was the started for the Cardinals and managed to get thru 5 innings before being lifted. He didn't have his best stuff. That man Brandon Crawford struck again for a solo homer in the 7th, the Cardinals only run in a 2-1 defeat.

Game 3 was a masterpiece between Walker Buehler and Miles Mikolas. Both carried no hitters into the 5th. Willson Contreras broke up Buehler's with a single to left and in the bottom half of the inning, Teoscar Hernandez would single up the middle. Miles Mikolas would finish off the complete game shutout, as he struck out 8 Dodger hitters allowing just 3 hits. Brandon Crawford must still have hate for the Dodgers after spending all those years in San Francisco as he hit a 3 run bomb in the 5th that proved to be the deciding factor of a 5-0 win.

Game 4 the ball was handed to Matthew Liberatore who was roughed up a bit. Liberatore would manage just 5 innings but allowed 4 runs on 8 hits and it could've been worse if not for a Dodger base running blunder and a key double play. Shohei Ohtani absolutely shut down the Cardinals hitters over the course of 7 innings, striking out 10 in route to the win.

The Cardinals will now travel to San Diego for a 3 game series with the Padres.
I can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.

I miss the old days of Operation Sports :(

Scouting starts after the first week or so of games. Is that what you're referring to? Also is your Scouting set to manual?

Curious what my fellow franchise players are doing with the remaining top free agents. Snell, Montgomery, and JD Martinez. I don’t want to leave them in the free agent pool, so I have it narrowed down to two options, unless of course one or all of them sign before Tuesday when I start putting my franchise together.

                    1. Put them on the teams they were on last year.
                    2. Put them on the latest rumored team to be going after them. So I guess it would be Snell to the Astros, Montgomery to the Red Sox, Martinez to the Mets.

2 is what I’m leaning toward most. As far as their contracts I’d do half of the years and money as their rumored asking price as they’ll likely sign lesser deals at this point.

But, anyway. Just wanted to see what everyone else was doing with them before I make my decision.

I put them on teams that are rebuilding, to make those teams stronger. It's each of our own franchise fantasy so whatever you like is cool.

Orioles Walk off Angels in '24 Opener

Ramon Urias run scoring single in the bottom the the 10th inning pushed the Orioles past the Angels 4-3 in the 2024 Season opener.

The Angels jumped out to an early led getting to Orioles Opening Day starter Corbin Burnes for 3 runs in the first 3 innings, including a Zach Neto solo home run. Burnes would settle down but the Angels would still lead 3-0 going in to the bottom of 6th.

Ramon Urias then got the Orioles on the board with a 2 run home run off Angels starter Pablo Sandoval. The Angels held a slim 3-2 lead going in to the bottom of the 9th, when Gunnar Henderson tied the score with a long home run to right field.

Orioles closer Felix Bautista pitched a perfect 10th inning. In the bottom of the 10th frame, Urias continued his heroics lining a single in to left field allowing Austin Hayes to score the game winning run.

Notes: Mike Trout was a home run shy of the cycle in the loss.

                            W-Bautista (1-0)
                            L- Anderson (0-1)

Re: MLB The Show 24 Franchise Mode Discussion Thread

Alright, finally ready to get my franchise underway! Spent majority of the last 2 days editing every piece of equipment for my Padres and copying/bringing over prospects from The Show 23 into 24 and finally have my roster i feel ready to go.

There are several position battles to watch heading into Spring Training with the most intriguing being who will take the #5 starting spot in the rotation as well as the OF positions. This years team has a solid mix of veterans who are hungry for more, rookies who are on the verge of making their big league debuts, and talented veterans who are NRI fighting to stay in the majors vying for the final roster spots.

The first four spots of our rotation are set, the only question is where will they slot? The top four pitchers are Joe Musgrove, Yu Darvish, Dylan Cease and Michael King. As mentioned about the number 5 slot, the candidates fighting for the coveted job are Jhony Brito, Randy Vasquez, Matt Waldron, and Luis Patino, who was once a highly regarded and heralded prospect within the Padres system. Patino more than likely however will serve in the bullpen and long man ala a role previously occupied by Nick Martinez. Luis Patino is also out of options which will certainly play a hand into the final roster construction as there is plenty of talent left in the only 24 year olds right arm.

The bullpen figures to be lead by Robert Suarez who looks to get the first crack at sliding into the vacant closers role left behind by Josh Hader. A couple of foreign imports with closer experience also look to be in the fold in Yuki Matsui out of Japan and Woo Suk Go out of Korea. The bullpen is boasted by a trade that brought in Enyel De Los Santos from CLE as well as Wandy Peralta. The remaining bullpen spots will be fought for by Tom Cosgrove, Adrian Morejan, Rule 5 pick Stephen Kolek, Jeremiah Estrada, Alek Jacob and Sean Reynolds. You also have to figure whoever loses the #5 starting spot may be in contention for a long role relief in the bullpen.

For the main roster, the regular starters are Luis Campusano, Jake Cronenworth, Ha-Seong Kim, Manny Machado, Xander Bogaerts, and Fernando Tatis Jr. This leaves LF, CF and DH spots open. The favorites for LF is Jurickson Profar while the CF spot looks to be a battle between Jose Azocar and top prospect Jackson Merrill who is transitioning to the OF this spring. Haven't been able to dive into Franchise yet since I don't get the game until Tuesday. However, I have decided that I will be going with two Franchise modes this year. One of those save files will be the Kansas City Royals for my YouTube series on my main Switch, while the other will be with my Blue Jays on my OLED Switch.
