Re: MLB The Show 24 Franchise Mode Discussion Thread

After much talk and analyzing rosters and stats the 2024 San Diego Padres have officially decided up and announced their opening day 26 man roster.

Starting Pitchers:
Joe Musgrove
Michael King
Dylan Cease
Yu Darvish
Jhony Brito

Relief Pitchers
Robert Suarez
Yuki Matsui
Enyel De Los Santos
Wandy Peralta
Tom Cosgrove
Luis Patino
Stephen Kolek
Jeremiah Estrada

Catchers
Luis Campusano
Kyle Higashioka
Brett Sullivan

Infielders
Jake Cronenworth
Xander Bogaerts
Manny Machado
Ha-Seong Kim
Tyler Wade

Outfielders
Tommy Pham
Jurickson Profar
Jackson Merrill
Tim Locastro
Fernando Tatis Jr

Joe Musgrove has been named the opening day starter and will battle against Shohei Ohtani and the hated Los Angeles Dodgers. In a surprise, both Luis Patino and Stephen Kolek made the team. Getting optioned to AAA El Paso was newly signed RP Woo Suk Go from Korea who had a rough first spring for the Padres. Perhaps Go needs more time adjusting to the size of the MLB ball which he will learn while playing for the Chihuahuas.

Looking for some input from anyone that does a full blown fictional franchise. I want to do something more creative and be more engaged than last year. Watching videos and reading posts I think I want to give it a shot.

What was your process as far as picking teams/team names? Did you have an idea or go into the vault and see what hits you?

Braves Dominant in Sweep of Marlins

April 12-14, 2024

Atlanta went down to Miami and took care of business, dismantling the Marlins while watching their 2023 NL MVP finally get his season going in a major way.

The first game featured a really good outing from Charlie Morton (6 scoreless innings), while Austin Riley yet again provided the majority of the damage with three hits, four RBIs, and his 14th home run. However, was Adam Duvall who put the nail in the coffin with a two-run shot in the 7th inning. Aaron Bummer would struggle with three runs allowed in only 0.2 IP, but the Braves came away with a 6-3 win that featured a Raisel Iglesias save. Michael Harris notched three hits with three runs scored, a double, and a stolen base in this game as well.

The second game was a blowout from jump, as the Braves racked up 16 hits, including four from Ronald Acuna (with a SB), while Matt Olson and Travis d'Arnaud (twice) went deep as Atlanta scored 12 runs. Bryce Elder was solid on the mound (5 IP, 3 runs allowed), while Dylan Lee and Renaldo Lopez cruised in a 12-3 win for the Braves.

In the third game, Spencer Strider took on Marlin phenom Eury Perez in one of the standout matchups of April, but it was again a one-sided affair. Strider threw a complete game, allowing two hits and one walk while striking 13 in a one run outing. Offensively, the Braves picked their spots and really made Perez, who is off to a slow start in 2024, pay for any mistakes he made. Acuna picked up three hits, including a double and a homer. Ozzie Albies went 4-5 with a double, homer, and five RBI, and Jared Kelenic went deep twice. Every starter got a hit, including Riley, who extended his hit streak to 12 in the eighth with a single, in a 10-1 effort to complete the sweep.

For the series, Acuna went 8-14 with homer, double, and a stolen base while scoring three times in his first dominant series of the season.

The Braves are currently riding a five-game win streak after an up-and-down start and are back in first place in the NL East with a 10-6 record. Up next, they will take a trip to Houston for a three-game series against the Astros, who are off to a 9-8 start.

DODGERS BLANK PADRES IN SEASON OPENER

It was definitely a pitchers dual in the opening contest of the season where Shohei Ohtani and the Los Angeles Dodgers defeated the San Diego Padres 1-0. Ohtani was as advertised throwing 7 scoreless innings while walking 3 and striking out 6. Ohtani also drove in the only run of the game on an RBI double.

For the Padres, outside of one pitch, Joe Musgrove was absolutely dominant throwing 7 innings and striking out 9 while allowing 0 walks. The Dodgers only run came in the 6th on back to back 2 out doubles from Freddie Freeman (3-3) and Ohtani. Evan Phillips picked up his first save of the year.

Game 2 features new Padre Michael King vs Dodger legend Clayton Kershaw. This Padres lineup is built to feast off of left handed pitching, lets hope it plays out the way AJ Preller constructed his 26 man roster.

PADRES POWER PAST DODGERS 3-1

The San Diego Padres rebounded in Game 2 defeating the Dodgers 3-1 against future HOF Clayton Kershaw. The Padres scratched their first run of the game in the 4th inning on a Manny Machado fielders choice which brought in Xander Bogaerts. The Padres added on the top of the 6th on a Ha-Seong Kim Home Run to dead center, his first of the year. The Padres then took a 3-0 lead when C Kyle Higashioka clobbered his first HR of the year off of Kershaw. The Dodgers scored one in the bottom of the 7th off of Michael King who was very impressive in his debut throwing 7 innings and giving up only 3 hits and 1 run while striking out 6 and issuing no walks. King had a no hitter until the 7th inning when the Dodgers stranded 3 hits off of King for their only run. Yuki Matsui made his MLB debut throwing a perfect 8th inning which was capped off by Robert Suarez notching his first save of the season where he struck out 2 in one inning of work.

Next Up. The San Diego Padres face the San Francisco Giants where Dylan Cease will match up against Logan Webb.

PADRES WALK OFF GIANTS IN FIRST TWO GAMES

Game 1: Dylan Cease vs Logan Webb.

Game one saw the Padres come back to defeat the Giants with a game winning single by Xander Bogaerts in the 11th inning to defeat the Giants 4-3. The Giants tried to ruin not only the home opener for the Padres, but also the debut of Dylan Cease who was acquired right before the start of the season. The Giants took a 3-0 lead into the 8th inning when Taylor Rogers entered with a runner on second and promptly gave up a 2 run HR to Kyle Higashioka. In the bottom of the 9th Manny Machado hit a home run off closer Camilo Doval to tie the game at 3 a piece. The Padres would later win the game in the bottom of the 11th with the speedy Tim Locastro entering the game as a pinch runner on an RBI single by Xander Bogaerts. Tom Cosgrove (1-0) picked up the win to send the crowd home happy. Dylan Cease ended the night with 5 IP, 7H, 2R, 0BB, 3Ks.

Game 2: Yu Darvish vs Blake Snell

Game two featured another Padre come back after being dominated by their former ACE and CY Young winner Blake Snell. Snell, the former fan favorite threw 6.1 innings giving up 3 hits and striking out 7. The Giants once again held a 3-0 lead late when the Padres were able to score 3 in the bottom half of the 7th inning. The rally started after a lead off double by Tommy Pham and a Manny Machado walk. With runners on 1st and 2nd, Ha-Seong Kim hit a perfectly placed ball into the right center field gap clearing the bases and leaving him standing on 3rd base. The next batter Kyle Higashioka then grounded out deep to short which allowed Kim to score from third base. After the Giants immediately responded in the top of the 8th, Tim Locastro responded by hitting a lead off home run off newly entered Taylor Rogers. Similiar to game one fashion, Tyler Wade entered the 10th inning as a pinch runner and scored on a walk off single by Tim Locastro. Jeremiah Estrada picked up the win in relief. Yu Darvish threw 6 innings giving up 3 runs on 7 hits while striking out 5.

Game 3 features Robbie Ray (0-0) vs Jhony Brito (0-0).

After opening the season tearing the ball up on offense, the Jays are finally handed their first loss in the last game of a three game set in Houston, losing 6-1 on only 5 hits.

Considering id hit 14 HR in the previous 6 games id say im due a cool down!

6-1 though heading into NY for a three game series with the Yanks, just this series left before finally the home opener.

Cardinals take series against A's in Oakland

The Cardinals (9-10) took two games of a three game series from the A's in Oakland to begin the week.

In a series the Cardinals needed to win, they got that done with strong offense from Nolan Gorman and Brendan Donovan. Gorman hit 3 homeruns in the series and drove in 9 while Brendan Donovan racked up a whopping 8 hits over the 3 game series.

Pitching was solid, but the Cardinals did drop game 2 of the series as the middle relief fell apart and gave up a 4 run lead.

The Cardinals will return home after a day off Thursday for a 3 game weekend series with the Brewers.

Paul Goldschmidt to 60 Day IL with Knee injury

The Cardinals will be without 1B Paul Goldschmidt for the foreseeable future, as he suffered a knee injury during the series finale in Oakland. Goldschmidt is expected to miss 10-12 weeks with the injury. Jordan Walker was recalled from Memphis to fill the vacant roster spot.

Cardinals swept by Brewers over the weekend

The Cardinals (9-13) were swept by the Brewers over the weekend in Busch Stadium as the Cardinals now trail said Brewers by 5 games in the NL Central, and are sitting in last place.

The Cardinals lost Friday night and Saturday night in heartbreaking fashion as the Brewers would come up with runs in the 8th inning of both games to pull out the victory. On Sunday, the Cardinals were shut out 2-0.

The offensive woes for St.Louis continue with Tommy Edman hitting below .150 in the leadoff spot, Dylan Carlson hitting around .200 in the two hole, Nolan Arenado has one homerun with 6 RBIs and a .198 average in the cleanup spot, and Harrison Bader is hitting around .130 in the 7th spot. With Paul Goldschmidt out until June/July, Alec Burleson is filling in nicely (.324 with 1 HR and 5 RBI) in limited time at the DH spot. Brendan Donovan was swinging a good back, but he's on his 2nd IL stint of the young season with a shoulder injury.

The Cardinals need the bats to pick up the pace as the pitching staff continues to be inconsistent.

Next up is a 3 game homestand with the Diamondbacks to begin the week, before heading to New York this weekend to face the Mets, then Detriot to close out the month of April.

April Schedule:

3 vs ARI
3 @ NYM
3 @ DET

Mets Rebound To Take 2 of 3 From Tigers, End Opening Home Stand at .500

The Mets ended their opening season home stand taking two of three from the Tigers and will head on the road at 3-3.

Things did not start out great in the series as game one was all Tigers as they beat up Sean Manaea early in his Mets debut for 3 runs and that was all they needed as Kenta Maeda was sharp and they took game 1 of the series 3-1 for the Mets third straight loss.

Things did however improve in game two as they got a great pitching performance from Adrian Houser who went 6 strong shutout innings allowing just 5 hits and striking out 8. Lindor and Bader would both go deep and the Mets would even the series with a 5-0 win.

The rubber match would see Kodai Senga remain red hot and extend his scoreless streak to start the season to 13 innings as he went 6 strong 3 hit innings and Lindor would homer two more times and Bader would rob a homerun and the Mets would dominate this game 7-1 to win the series

The Mets are now 3-3 on the season tied with the Braves for second place both behind the 4-3 Marlins

Franciso Lindor (.364 avg, 3 HR)
Harrison Bader (4 for last 7, 2 HR, 5 RBI on season)

NOT
Jose Quintana (0-1 10.13 ERA)
Francisco Alvarez (.167 avg 0 HR, 0 RBI)
Pete Alonso (0 HR in 22 AB)
Brett Baty (1 for 16, .062 avg)

Quick question; As a fellow Brave fan, I haven't played with the Braves much this year yet. Maybe played one game, but didn't pay enough attention. How does Riley's gear look? The past 3 years they equip him with those sunglasses that are 3 sizes too small for his head and it bothers the plss out of me lol

I've always been interested but never did it; I feel like I don't have the patience to go through and make all the teams and uniforms. I personally always wanted to do it with College teams but again, the time restraint kills me. But if I were to start a full fictional franchise, I'd probably go the route of a "random generator" for cities and then think of a random mascot that somewhat fits that cities name.

I found this website that seems pretty simplistic when generating cities.

I wish you the best of luck on this project and would enjoy hearing more about it once you get it going!

I run a full blown fictional franchise in MLB 22. It takes a lot of work to setup but I am in season three (2024) and loving it. I started with a fictional roster that I found in the vault. Someone simmed to the year 2050 and then used that as the base of the roster.

I created all 30 teams in a fictional western US league. I also created or edited downloaded stadiums for each team except for two teams (San Diego and Fort Worth) that play in MLB parks. The uniforms and logos took the longest to create, maybe a couple of months. I wish we could upload images instead of having to create them from scratch.

Best of luck! I would highly recommend doing it!
