It has been reported that the produce peddling Bob Castellini and his associated investors have sold the Cincinnati Reds outright for an incredible 3 Billion dollars. Yes you read that right, 3 Billion with a B.
Who would over spend that much to buy this ball club? Honestly, we do not know as this is an undisclosed deal and the MLB is being really tight lipped.
Rumors are it a German based company or individual. What we do know from our source in the Reds front offices is that former C.O.O. Phil Castellini has been banned from ever showing his face at Great American Ballpark, the spring training facility in Goodyear, AZ. So right off the bat, that is a huge win for Cincy fans.
Nick Krall has been retained as GM. Sources say Krall has already been given orders to get MVP and future H.O.F. Joey Votto back from the Toronto Bluejays and Nick Senzel from the Nationals. There may be other fan favorite veterans returning as well, only time will tell.
Some disappointing news is that 3B Noelvi Marte has been given an 80 game suspension for violating the MLB's PED policy. Which is unfortunate because Marte's name was being thrown around as a possible Rookie of the Year candidate.
None the less, no one can deny this Reds team has a strong core of electric young talent already in the major league right now. So depending who the Reds bring back or in as strong veteran leadership, they definitely should be a favorite to win the division. And dare we say a World Series contender?
