THE CINCINNATI REDS HAVE A NEW OWNER

It has been reported that the produce peddling Bob Castellini and his associated investors have sold the Cincinnati Reds outright for an incredible 3 Billion dollars. Yes you read that right, 3 Billion with a B.

Who would over spend that much to buy this ball club? Honestly, we do not know as this is an undisclosed deal and the MLB is being really tight lipped.

Rumors are it a German based company or individual. What we do know from our source in the Reds front offices is that former C.O.O. Phil Castellini has been banned from ever showing his face at Great American Ballpark, the spring training facility in Goodyear, AZ. So right off the bat, that is a huge win for Cincy fans.

Nick Krall has been retained as GM. Sources say Krall has already been given orders to get MVP and future H.O.F. Joey Votto back from the Toronto Bluejays and Nick Senzel from the Nationals. There may be other fan favorite veterans returning as well, only time will tell.

Some disappointing news is that 3B Noelvi Marte has been given an 80 game suspension for violating the MLB's PED policy. Which is unfortunate because Marte's name was being thrown around as a possible Rookie of the Year candidate.

None the less, no one can deny this Reds team has a strong core of electric young talent already in the major league right now. So depending who the Reds bring back or in as strong veteran leadership, they definitely should be a favorite to win the division. And dare we say a World Series contender?

Last year's game I had to turn them off. I was trying to sign guys to extensions and I had the space to do so but wouldn't ever let me do it until I started a new one with budgets off. Not sure if they fixed that in 24 or not.

        2024 Oakland Athletics 04/09-04/11

        Overall Record:6-7 (5th AL West/3.0 behind Seattle)

        Game Results

        Game 1
        Rangers-4
        Athletics-1

        Game 2
        Athletics-6
        Rangers-5

        Game 3
        Athletics-6
        Rangers-3

That's two in a row. A's get better of defending champs, 2-1!

The Oakland Athletics are still in last place in the AL West in the early parts of the 2024 season but they have now won two series' in a row, are just one game below .500 and are currently on their first winning steak of 2024 (2 games).

Okay, maybe that's a little too much excitement for a last place team but dang it, we just beat the defending champs in our first series against them in 2024.

Brent Rooker had an unexpected power surge in 2023 as he hit 30 homeruns after his previous season high was just nine for Minnesota in 2021. Thus far in 2024, it has appeared that he had reverted back to his 2021 self. However, he did get his first in the 8th inning of second game of this series as he hit a homerun to dead center in the eighth inning as Oakland took the lead, 6-5. Lucas Erceg then came in and got his fourth save of the early season as the A's tied the series at 1-1.

The A's got the scoring started in game three as they got to Nathan Eovaldi in the 2nd inning for a single run after the Rangers first baseman, Nathaniel Lowe botched a throw to second that would have likely ended the inning. Miguel Andujar took advantage of the error and hit and RBi single in the team's next at bat.

The Rangers quickly answered back in the bottom half of the inning as Ezequiel Duran hit his second homerun of the year to tie the game and extend his hitting streak to twelve games.

Not to be deterred, the Athletics eventually got out to a six run lead, 6-1. That is until the Rangers got within three in the sixth inning. From there however, the Athletics were able to hold the defending champs at bay and eventually, Lucas Erceg would get his fifrth save and second in as many days as the A's took the victory 6-3 and the series, 2-1.

The A's will now return home to face off against the Nationals (6-6/1st NL East).

Getting on a bit of a roll as we have now won 4 straight and sit at 19-11 which is good enough for a 2 game lead over second place Arizona who are 16-12.

Still have a severe lack of power on the team outside of Machado and Kim. Still having issues hitting although some averages are beginning to rise. Some of our biggest stars are still struggling mightley.

Fernando Tatis Jr .196 with 1 HR and 8 RBI in 107 AB's. I just cannot hit with him, not sure what it is, its abysmal.

          Kim .252 with 8 HR 20 RBI

Rosario was called up and is hitting .190 with 1 HR and 4 RBI.
Higashioka has cooled down and is hitting .228 with 5 HR, 11 RBI
Cal Mitchell was called up and is 0-8 on the season

Re: MLB The Show 24 Franchise Mode Discussion Thread

Hey all - struggling to decide who to use for my first rebuild in franchise mode. I’ve narrowed it down to three options - the Angels, Red Sox, and the Brewers.

What I like about all three teams is they present different long-term challenges.

Obviously with the Angels, they stink, but still have Mike Trout. They have some bad contracts but are still able to spend, and they have one of the worst farm systems. Seems like an interesting challenge to rebuild and see how they shake out in the AL West.

The Brewers are right on the edge of a full on rebuild, but still have interesting MLB pieces like Freddy Peralta, Willy Adames, and Devin Williams. They do have a strong farm system, but rarely spend money, and have the terrible Yelich deal stuck on their books for years to come (not really realistic to move it). NL Central is weak right now, but all four other teams should be getting better as the years go on.

And then there’s the Red Sox, who are a historic franchise and the clear worst team in the AL East. Orioles look like a future juggernaut, Yankees are back, Rays are the Rays, and the Blue Jays have a lot of talent. Boston’s MLB team is meh at best, but they do have a strong farm system.

Braves Down Marlins in Two Out of Three

              April 22-24, 2024

After sweeping the Miami Marlins earlier in April, the Braves got off to a good start in this round of matchups as well. The opener featured a fantastic outing from Chris Sale, who allowed six hits in his 6.1 IP, but also forced an insane five double plays while striking out four. On the other side, the Braves kept finding really good contact, amassing 11 total hits including three doubles, but couldn't string them together enough. Orlando Arcia torched a homer in the fifth inning for the Braves only run as Raisel Iglesias took the mound to attempt a save. Igleasias had been perfect, but tonight was not is night, as he allowed three hits, including an RBI single to Luis Arraez, to tie the game and head into the bottom of the ninth. After a David Fletcher ground out, Adam Duvall and Arcia would draw walks. Michael Harris would start with an 0-2 count, but would work a walk to load the bases with one out. On the second pitch of the at bat, Ronald Acuna found a pitch to drive and got over Bryan De La Cruz's head for the walkoff in a 2-1 win for Atlanta.

Game two was a lot more simple: domination. The Braves hammered five homers from Matt Olson, Marcell Ozuna, Duvall, Jarred Kelenic, and Travis d'Arnuad that totaled eight runs, with five coming off Sixto Sanchiz in three innings of work. Charlie Morton continued his great start, throwing seven scoreless and finds himself with a 3-1 recorfd and a 2.05 ERA. Reynaldo Lopez went scoreless in his two innings as the Braves cruised to an 8-0 win.

The offense would start slow in the third game and allowed the Marlins to get off to a 5-1 lead heading into the bottom of the eighth. The offense would get going there with Acuna and Olson getting knocked in by an Ozzie Albies double to make it 5-3 heading into the ninth. Kelenic would smack a double in the ninth before getting knocked in by a Harris triple with two outs to send Acuna to the plate with a chance to tie. Acuna would walk on 5 pitches. Sean Murphy would get a pitch to hit, but lined out to Tim Anderson at short as the Braves fell 5-4 despite the comeback effort. Bryce Elder was spotty on the mound, throwing 4.1 IP and allowed two earned on two walks and five hits. It was Lopez who really struggled, however, as he gave up a two run homer to Jazz Chisholm in the top of the eighth that ended up being the winning runs.

The Braves (15-10) will host the Cleveland Guardians (15-11) in a battle of two potential playoff teams. Austin Riley will be back after missing all of the Marlins series with a pulled groin.

The trend continues as Cards lose series to Tigers

The Cardinals (12-19) continued their consecutive series loss streak as they dropped 2 of 3 to the Tigers in Detroit to begin the week. The Cardinals find themselves 6.5 games out of first in the NL Central, trailing the Cubs.

The Cardinals lost game 1 in extra innings when Ryan Helsley blew the save on a 2 out, 0-2 pitch, giving up a solo shot that tied the game. The Cards would lose in the 10th.

The Cardinals lost on Tuesday when Lance Lynn blew up in the 5th inning and the bats couldn't catch up.

The Cardinals won on Wednesday despite losing Sonny Gray in the first inning after he took a ball off the head. The Cardinals got dominant pitching from their bullpen in a 3-1 victory.

The Cardinals are off on Thursday as they head home for a 3 game weekend series with the White Sox.

Braves Have a Clean Sweep of Guardians

The Braves produced a really clean effort against one of the hotter starting teams in the sport over the weekend.

With the first game, Spencer Strider was on the mound and dealt for almost seven innings, giving up no runs and striking out seven to bring his record to 3-1 wit an ERA of 1.10 on the early season. The offense was good to see Austin Riley back in the lineup, as the slugger and MLB leader in homers went 3-4 with a double and three runs knocked in. Ozzie Albies found the bleachers for one of his own, while Michael Harris went for three hits and Acuna added a hit and a sacrifice fly as the Braves won 5-0.

The second game saw another great starter performance, as Fried gave up one run over six innings for one of his better starts of April, with the bullpen then not allowing a run for the second straight game. The offense featured dingers from Matt Olson, Marcell Ozuna, and Albies again as the Braves cruised to a 5-1 victory.

The last game took some extra effort, as Chris Sale labored through five innings while allowing four runs, but the bullpen effort of Pierce Johnson, Tyler Matzek, and Reynaldo Lopez put on a clinic. A four run fourth inning that was aided with an Olson two-run single followed by RBI knocks from Sean Murphy and Orlando Arcia. The game would end up going to extras tied at four, when Riley put his stamp on the game, hammering the first pitch he saw from Nick Sandlin for a walk off, two-run homer. The homer was his 18th of the year and franchise record 16th of the month. It's good to have him back as the Braves completed the sweep of the Guardians by a score of 6-4.

The long homestand ends with the Braves winning all three series with a record of 7-2 and 18-10 overall, leading the NL East by 2.5 games over the Philadelphia Phillies. They will now travel out west for a three-game series with Julio Rodriguez and the Seattle Mariners (11-17).

Cardinals place Sonny Gray on 15 Day IL

The Cardinals have placed RHP Sonny Gray on the 15 Day IL due to a head contusion he received Wednesday afternoon in Detroit.

Zack McKinistry hit a line drive in the bottom of the 1st that struck Gray in the head. Thankfully no serious injury occurred as a result. Gray will miss at least 2 weeks.

The Cardinals have not yet made a corresponding move, although its expected LHP Cooper Hjerpe will be added to the 40 man and recalled from Memphis.

After 18 games the Cubs are 9-9 but are in first place by 1 game lol. Injuries are taking a toll though. Already without Morel, I lost Bellinger and Gomes in the same half inning with broken legs. Both while sliding into second base.

Called up Crow-Armstrong as he will start his Mlb season tonight. Added Alfaro to the 40 man and brought him up as well

Through 2 games your Minnesota twins are 2 - 0 against what is supposed to be a much more competitive Royals team. Game 2, Paddack looks to be an early cy young contender, taking a perfect game into the 7th, in a game that the royals were blanked. Royce, after homering in game one, continued to stay hot at the plate, doubling twice, and ripping an RBI single down the third base line. Kepler doubled twice and singled once, Jeffers even got on the board with an RBI knock. Julien continues to mash right handed pitching, with an average EV of 105 mph vs right handers. Looking to sweep the series later tonight!

The first month is in the books as the Red Sox sit in Second place in the division with a 16-14 record 4.5 games back of the division leading Rays. So far the team has been solid definitely exceeding expectations. I don't think the pitching will be able to hold up so I’m expecting the team to come back to earth next month.

                          Hitting Studs:

Jarren Duran is leading the way with a .349 Avg while Masataka Yoshida leads the team with 10 Home runs. Other guys in the lineup doing well are Rafael Devers, Tyler Oneil, Vaughn Grissom, Emmanuel Valdez, and Rob Refsynder.

                          Hitting Duds:

Triston Casas has been really struggling so far with a .135 Avg and has been dropped to the 7th spot in the lineup and is being platooned. If he doesn’t turn it around soon I might look to send him down.

                          Pitching Studs:

Both Brayan Bello and Jordan Montgomery are leading the way with a 3.35 Era. In the pen Whitlock has been solid with a 1.96 Era and Isaiah Campbell has also been excellent as well.

                          Pitching Duds:

Nick Pivetta and Tanner Houck have both been serviceable so far. The one guy who hasn’t been that great is the rule 5 pick Justin Slaten with a 6.48 era but that’s only in 8 innings.

Well, the Jose Berrios problem continues for Toronto. The veteran starter lasted just two and two thirds against the Phillies, allowing six earned runs over that span, which brought his season numbers to a 1-5 record and an ERA of 7.19, yikes. Following that disastrous outing, the veteran right hander was optioned to Triple A Buffalo with recent trade acquisition Paul Skenes getting called up to take over Berrios' roster spot. Skenes has been slotted in to start the final game of Toronto's three game set against the Minnesota Twins, with Chris Bassitt starting game one and Yusei Kikuchi starting game two. Alek Manoah was originally supposed to pitch in this series, but he will instead pitch in the series against the Orioles.

Visiting Brewers Take Two of Three from O's

                              Game 1

                              Brewers - 6
                              Orioles - 7

                              W- B.Baker (1-0)
                              L- T.McGill (0-1)
                              HR:
                              Bal: A.Santander (4), J.Holliday (1)

Rookie Jackson Holliday hit a walk off single in the bottom of the 10th to give the Orioles a 7-6 win in a back and forth game. Anthony Santander was a major contributor going 3-4 with a home run and 3 RBI.

                              Game 2

                              Brewers - 6
                              Orioles - 2

                              W- A.Ashby (1-1)
                              L- G.Rodriguez (1-1)
                              S- C. Rea (1)

                              HR-
                              Mil: Chourio (1)

Jackson Chourio hit his first career home run and added 3 RBI as the Brewers blew past the Orioles 6-2. It was a rough game for Grayson Rodriguez who's record fell to 1-1. Rodriguez was roughed up for 5 earned runs in 4 innings of work, while walking 3 and striking out 3. Adley Rutschman was the lone bright spot for the O's. Rutschman banged out 4 hits in 5 trips with a pair of doubles to go with his 2 RBI.

                              Game 3

                              Brewers - 2
                              Orioles - 1

                              W- W.Miley (2-1)
                              L- Y.Cano (0-1)
                              S- D.Willliams (7)

                              HR:
                              Mil: W.Contreras (1)
                              Bal: J.Holliday (2)

With the Orioles leading 1-0 going in to the top of the 8th William Contreras launched a 409 foot home run in to the left field seats off Yennier Cano. Those 2 runs were all the Brewers would need as they sealed up the series win.

                              Next Series:
                              April 19th-21st Minnesota Twins (11-4) @ Baltimore Orioles (9-6)

                              Probable Starters:

                              Pablo Lopez (1-0, 3.32) vs. Corbin Burnes (1-0, 2.97)
                              Chris Paddack (1-1, 0.95) vs. Kyle Bradish (2-1, 4.67)
                              Joe Ryan (3-0, 2.49) vs. John Means (1-0, 6.06)

                              Orioles Notes:
With Jordan Westburg and Nick Maton out for the forseeable future the Orioles called up the #1 rated prospect Jackson Holliday. The 20 year old Holliday will be the every day second baseman while he's up. The rumors around the club are if he plays well this will be a permanent move. Holliday is off to a solid start slashing .316/.384/.684 with 2 home runs in his first 21 plate appearances.
