Re: MLB The Show 24 Franchise discussion thread

Okay, I just finished the series against the Rays with an insane 4th game.

    First 3 games:

    - W 1:0
    - W 4:1
    - W 6:4

In the 4th game I started Yusei Kikuchi and he had the worst day you could have. He ended up pitching only 1.2 innings, pitching 45 times in those, allowed 7 hits and 8 runs. Whatever I did pitching wise with him, they hit it. After 2 innings the score was 8-2 for the Rays.

Then both teams stayed scoreless for 2 innings until Vlad brought home a 3 run homerun in the 5th. Followed by 2 other scoreless innings by both teams, followed by another HR by Vlad, this time for 2 runs.

So we went into the 9th against their closer with 1 run down. Biggio hit a single leading it off, Springer struck out, Vlad singled again. Bo hit a sac fly that brought Biggio home and then the young Davis Schneider hit another HR to bring the leading run home.

The Rays finished the 9th then scoreless again, so we really won the game 9-8. In the past I usually ended up simming the game after an inning from hell like this one, but now I am really glad I stuck with it.

      Cardinals outright Matt Carpenter

The Cardinals have outrighted 2B/IF Matt Carpenter. The 38 year old and the Cardinals reunited this offseason with a one year deal, but this reunion appears to be short lived. As the Cardinals head towards the conclusion of Spring Training, and with the likes of Brandon Crawford on the roster, there really isn't a spot for Carpenter. Nolan Gorman will be the primary DH and Brandon Crawford will be the primary bench player for the infield. Plus Carpenter hasn't hit well this Spring with just 2 hits in 23 at-bats (25 plate appearances).

Its unknown if Carpenter will clear waivers, but if he does expect the Cardinals to just grant him an outright release, versus trying to find a trade partner, as the market is pretty scarce for him at the moment.

Hope to be more active this year than last year. I think I'm going to go back to my 21 settings of All-Star with the timing slider at 0 for me and 10 for the CPU. I've always been more comfortable on All-Star. Hopefully that gives me enough of a challenge.

I pre-ordered the standard edition, so I've got a few more days to wait.

Going to start my franchise tonight. Still narrowing down what team I want to use as I want to play with a team I've never used before in Franchise.

I'm leaning towards the Orioles, but the Mariners, Rays, Tigers and Reds are also getting some my interest.

Second game of the opening four game set at the Trop provided the sort of moment this game is brilliant at.

2-0 down into the bottom of the 5th, I've only got one hit, just not seeing it well at all then bang, HBP, walk, single, bases juiced up steps George Springer and BANG, first pitch slider hung by Zach Eflin and I hammer it 441 ft, in the space of one swing, up 4-2.

Ended up winning it 5-4, excellent 2-0 start to the campaign for Canadas team.

Looking forward to getting my third game of the day in tonight 🙌

Braves Bullpen Collapses, Phillies Win With Walk Off

The season couldn't have started much better for the Atlanta Braves, as they roughed up Zach Wheeler while Spencer Strider (6 IP, 8 K, 2 BB, 3 Hits, 1 R, 0 ER) sliced up their batters. Michael Harris (3-5, SB), Austin Riley (2-3), and Ozzie Albies (1-3) all took Wheeler deep as five runs crossed the board en route to a 5-1 lead heading into the bottom of the eighth.

Things would fall apart here, as three straight batters reached on hits off of Tyler Matzek before got his first two outs. AJ Minter would come in to get the final out and was taken deep by JT Realmuto to tie the game. After the Braves failed to score a run in the top of the 10th, Bryce Harper notched a hit off of Joe Jimenez to score Trea Turner, giving the Phillies their first win of the season in the opener.

The Braves only totaled 6 hits, with Ronald Acuna and Matt Olson combining to go 0-7, while Albies and Orlando Arcia each notched errors.

Game Two will see Max Fried on the mound for the Braves against Aaron Nola for the Phillies.

Re: MLB The Show 24 Franchise discussion thread

I started a Franchise with the nationals just to get a feel for things and see where it goes. First impression, nothing too crazy on changes but I always enjoy a fresh game. However first thing I noticed that was goofy, went to play the first spring training game… and the lineup that pops on in the pre-game screen is NOTHING near what I have my lineup set as. I went and double checked my lineups multiple times and still pops up as not the correct lineup I want. Anyone else have this issue or maybe I’m losing my mind..?

Side note: my biggest ick of the game so far is the menus and the white menus with small font. Almost hurts my eyes if you look at it long enough. Again maybe I’m in the minority.

**EDIT: ignore the lineup issue. Just realized they ONLY have DH specific lineups and not non-DH lineups in the lineup screen which is a nice change.

Braves Bounce Back, Even the Series With 7-6 Win

It was expected that a Nola-Fried matchup would be one that would lead to litte offense, but that was not the case. Fried (4.2 IP, 8 hits, 5 ER, 4 Ks) didn't make it out of the fifth, and a Jared Kelenic two-run homer (his first as a Brave) scored the Braves fifth and sixth run and chased Nola (5.2 IP, 9 hits, 5 ER, 6 R, 10 Ks) out of the game in the sixth to put them up one. The Phillies would tie the game in the bottom of the sixth as Trea Turner's (4-5, 2B, HR, SB) fourth hit, a single, knocked in Edmundo Sosa (2-4, HR) It looked as if the Braves bullpen would struggle again, but Reynaldo Lopez, AJ Minter, and Raisel Iglesias wouldn't let that happen.

The Braves would go up 7-6 in the top of the eighth with a Sean Murphy single knocked in Ozzie Albies (2-4, HR, SB). Minter would shut the door in the eighth, and Iglesias would get his first save of the season as the Braves move to 1-1 on the season.

The Braves offense was much better as everybody got involved, totaling 13 hits for the seven runs. Albies and Austin Riley have homered in both games to start the season. The bullpen had a good bounce back game.

The rubber match of the series will see Chris Sale of the Braves take on Ranger Suarez for the Phillies on the mound.

Tigers Take 2/3 from Sox to open Year

What a good start to the Tigers 2024 campaign. The offense and defense through the first 2 games was absolutely lights out, winning those first two by a combined 11-2. Tarik Skubal went out and got a complete game shutout on Opening Day, and the team put up 8 behind him including 4 homers(Including a Leadoff HR to the leadoff batter Baddoo) In game two, the Tigers jumped out to a quick 3-0 lead before giving up a run in each of the last two innings before Lange buckled down and got the save.

Finally in Game 3, the Tigers could put some hits together but never the timely ones, and would end up being shut out themselves this time, 3-0 behind what was still a solid pitching performance from Reese Olson.

Now the Tigers head straight to Queens, where they will take on the 1-2 Mets.

Probable pitchers for the series are:
                        Flaherty v Manaea
                        Mize v Severino
                        Skubal 1-0, 0.00 v Senga 0-1, 12.27

Braves' Bats Go Quiet, Phillies Win Opening Series

Just an absolutely dreadful day for the Atlanta offense, as they only notched four hits and two walks on the day as Ranger Suarez (7.2 IP, 4 hits, BB, 7 Ks) continues to dominate them dating back to the 2023 postseason. Orlando Arcia was the only Brave with multiple hits.

This was a shame as Chris Sale's debut could not really have gone much better. Sale put together six strong innings, giving up six hits and one run while walking one and striking out 6. Joe Jimenez pitched the last two innings and gave up the additional run.

The Braves (1-2) will stay on the road as they travel to play the Chicago White Sox for a three game set. As they set for the trip, the offense has to be more patient, as the pitching was mostly decent in the opening series. Atlanta walked only three times in the first three games.

Jays take game three in Tampa 6-0, four more long balls. Offense has come out of the gate flying. Just one more game in this hell hole dome known as the Trop then finally months of outside fresh air baseball, the way it's meant to be.

20 runs in three games, I know I'll cool off soon so just enjoying it while I can.
