    2024 Chicago Cubs 05/03-05/05

Overall Record:26-9 (1st NL Central/2.5 over St. Louis)

    Game Results

    Game 1
    Cubs-3
    Brewers-2

    Game 2
    Cubs-5
    Brewers-2

    Game 3
    Cubs-9
    Brewers-3

Wisdom, Cubs remain perfect in May

The Cubs are 5-0 so far in May and Patrick Wisdom has homered in each game (twice in two games). With the homerun outburst, Wisdom has taken the team lead in homeruns (13) with Seiya Suzuki falling to second (12).

The first season series against the Brewers couldn't have gone much better. The only game that was really in question was the first. Wisdom got the scoring going in that game with his 10th HR of the season in the second inning to give the Cubbies the 1-0 lead. The next two runs scored in the game were solo shots by Sal Frelick (4th inning) and William Contreras (7th inning) before the Cubs were able to tie it in the 8th.

In the ninth, with two outs, Dansby Swanson got on base with a single and he then stole second. That was all that was needed as Ian Happ eventually hit the walk off single.

The Cubs then went on to win games two and three for the sweep.

Chicago will now close out their homestand with three against the Padres (17-20/2nd NL West).

Texas Rangers update season 2 MOM. We'll we finished the regular season with a 90 and 72 record and got the 2nd wild card. We played the 4th seed Angels. After winning game 1 11 to 4, we jumped out to an 8 1 lead in game 2. We however blew the lead. Going into the 9th with 2 outs, we were down 10 8 but hit back to back hrs to tie the game. What felt like a kick in the groin in the bottom of 10th saw Mike Trout hit a walk off hr. So the series is tied 1 to 1. More updates to follow tomorrow

Cardinals sweep Giants as pitching dominates

The Cardinals (12-6) swept the Giants at Oracle Park as pitching dominating the series. The Cardinals outscored the Giants 12-1 over the series. Only downside is that Nolan Gorman and Nolan Arenado were hit with nagging injuries that will keep them out a few days, but the team isn't looking to put them on the IL.

The Cardinals will now head home for a 4 game series with the Braves.

Cardinals split 4 game series with Braves

The Cardinals (14-8) split their 4 game series with the Braves in St.Louis, as the Cardinals won Thursday and Sunday. The Cardinals currently sit atop the NL Central with a 1 game lead on the Pirates.

Jack Flaherty got the ball on Thursday and after giving up a first pitch lead off homerun to Michael Harris, went 7 innings giving up just the one run with 8 strikeouts in route to his 3rd win of the year as the Cardinals, despite missing Arenado and Gorman in the lineup, won 13-2 over the Braves.

Unfortunately, Friday wasn't a good day as Miles Mikolas never recorded and out giving up 7 runs on 4 homeruns in the first inning as the Braves would go on to throttle the Cardinals 22-3 as the Braves blasted 8 homeruns in the game.

Saturday was Sonny Gray and while he was great, the bats were quiet as Chris Sale pitched a complete game shutout and the Cardinals lost 2-0. Sale struck out 14 on the day with just 2 hits against.

Sunday Max Fried faced his old team but ended up with a no decision after Alex Reyes blew a 4-2 lead on just 4 pitches (single homerun). Thankfully the Cardinals were able to un-tie the game in the 8th with Nolan Arenado returning to the ineup and doubling home Jose Azocar for the 5-4. Ryan Helsley got the save.

The Cardinals will now welcome the Rangers to town for a 3 game series beginning on Tuesday.

Re: MLB The Show 24 Franchise Mode Discussion Thread

Four trades around the league have been completed. Three NL Central teams involved, including the Reds!

Alright, I figured with such a long list of players to possibly be traded I would get some completed. First on the list is the trade the Reds make with the Rockies. Funny enough, and pure coincidence that we are set to start a 4 game series next.

              Reds get: C Elias Diaz
Rockies get: 19yr SS Sammy Stafura(C)

Man this trade helps my offense tremendously. Unfortanely he is bad at defense and has no secondary. But the plan is to place Tyler Stephenson at 1B vs lefties. We have sent down Luke Maile and certainly no plans to resign him this offseason.

Elias will DH vs righties as Stephenson plays Catcher. This helps my lack of offense from the 1B position, and solidifies some great hitting at Catcher. And of course he will start vs his old team immediately lol.

Here are the other three trades quickly:

              Brewers get: RP Scott Alexander
Athletics get: 23yr SP Bradley Blalock(C)

              Cardinals get: SS Aledmys Diaz
Athletics get: 25yr RP Ryan Loutos(C), and 25yr RF Moises Gomez(C)

              Rays get: RP John Brebbia
White Sox get: 24yr RF Nick Schnell(C)

I am still in the market for a SP, but so are 8 other teams so we'll see if we can get lucky. Feel like this trade for Diaz was a great trade for us.

Re: MLB The Show 24 Franchise Mode Discussion Thread

A quick update on the 2025 Washington Nationals, as we just finished July and the Trade Deadline:

The San Francisco Giants offered the Nationals quite a deal, CP Camilo Doval for two minor leaguers (SS Jordy Barley and LF Darin Cabrera). This is a definite win for Washington, who have SS locked up with Brady House and a deep outfield as well. They were desperate for some bullpen help and Doval might be just what keeps them in the playoff picture. The Nationals were so happy to acquire Doval that they agreed on a 6 year/27.85M extension, making him their closer going forward. That will allow Carl Edwards Jr to return to his setup role. Edwards also signed a 2 year extension worth 9.03M.

There were even bigger moves made at the deadline. The Phillies are starting to dismantle their team after a horrid first half (48-66). They traded Rhys Hoskins to Tampa Bay for 3B Greg McLain and RP Leandro Medrano. McLain seems to be the bigger piece of this trade, he is just 20 years old with a 74 OVR and B potential, and can play the rest of the infield as well, which is good for Philadelphia because they also traded SS Bryson Stott to Boston for 1B Aldo Reyes, RP Gary Coggin and RF Trey Murphy. Reyes seems to be the key here; the 21 year old has a 72 OVR and C potential, with a solid bat but poor fielding stats. It would seem that Philly is gearing up for a long rebuild.

The trade deadline also saw a feel-good moment, at least for the Atlanta Braves. They traded away 2B Rick Lynch and SP Arnold Sierra to Colorado for…SS Dansby Swanson. Swanson signed with the Rockies after the 2023 season, but the Rockies are still in the midst of what seems to be a constant rebuild and the Braves jumped at the opportunity to bring one of their own back home. Swanson remains under contract through 2026, so it will be interesting to see if he finishes his career where it all began or if he decides to leave once again.

The Nationals made just one other move before the month was out, and that was sending 2B Luis Garcia back to AAA and claiming veteran Josh VanMeter off waivers. Garcia was never able to find his stride despite multiple opportunities, and his future remains unclear with just one more year remaining on his contract. VanMeter brings a veteran presence to the clubhouse as well as the ability to play every position.

The Nationals have also extended the contracts of SS Yasel Antuna (2 years/ 180K) and RP Ryan Rolinson (5 years/2.66M), but talks with Mitch Haniger have stalled. The 34 year old is putting up another great year and might be trying to get one last big contract before the end of his career, and Washington remains hesitant to give him too much despite his past year and a half of playing with them.

The Nationals had another good but not great month, going 15-10 and finishing July with a record of 61-48. They started on a four game series with the Mets on July 31, and ended up going 1-3 in that series, so as of August 3 they find themselves 11 games behind Atlanta in the NL East but 1.5 games ahead of Milwaukee in the Wild Card.

August will be a challenging month for the Nationals, as they will play Pittsburgh, Atlanta twice, New York (one more time), Toronto, San Diego, San Francisco and Miami. While September looks like an easier month, August could be the month that really decides their season.

                      2024 Chicago Cubs 05/06-05/08

                      Overall Record:27-11 (1st NL Central/3.0 over Pittsburgh)

                      Game Results:

                      Game 1
                      Padres-3
                      Cubs-1

                      Padres-1

                      Game 3
                      Padres-1
                      Cubs-0

Cubs lose second series of 2024

The Chicago Cubs have one of the best offenses in the league thus far in '24. They currently sit at #3 in runs scored (196) and are just three behind the Rangers who sit at #1 (199).

Unfortunately, against a pretty good San Diego team, that offense didn't show up.

The Cubs score one run in their game one loss which unfortunately could back up a strong starting performance by Justin Steele who went seven innings and stuck out seven while allowing just one run. The relievers both gave up a run as well as San Diego took game one, 3-1.

Chicago then went on to win game two, 6-1 behind homeruns by Seiya Suzuki (13) and Ian Happ (6). Suzuki's tied him for the team lead with Patrick Wisdom and both are tied for second in the NL behind the Braves Third Baseman, Austin Riley.

Then, it game three, the Cubbies were just embarrassed by San Diego's knuckleballer, Matt Waldron who pitched eight full innings as he allowed just two hits, no runs while he struck out 12.

Chicago's duo of Javier Assad and Jordan Wicks were also dominate as neither allowed a run until extra innings when Luis Campusano hit a walkoff double as the Padres won the game, 1-0 and the series, 2-1.

Chicago will now hit the road as they head to Pittsburgh to face the second place Pirates (24-14).

Royals Sweep Series Against Tigers, Extend Winning Streak To 6 Games

The Royals (20-9, 1st AL Central 2.5 GU) won all three games against the Tigers in Detroit over the weekend.

Friday's game saw Kansas City explode on offense, winning 15-4. The Royals had 20 hits and hit 8 HR in the game! Bobby Witt Jr. and Drew Waters each hit 2 HR. Freddy Fermin, Hunter Renfroe, JD Martinez, and Dairon Blanco each hit a HR. Seth Lugo (2-2 2.34 ERA) went 5 innings and gave up 5 hits.

On Saturday, the Royals won 6-1 led by HR by Salvador Perez and Vinnie Pasquantino. Brady Singer (4-2 3.37 ERA) picked up the win after going 6.1 innings and giving up 5 hits.

The Royals completed the sweep on Sunday by beating the Tigers 3-2 in 10 innings. Drew Waters hit the go ahead 2 run HR in the 10th. Adam Frazier also had two hits for a team that could only muster 6 hits total.

Next up: The Royals head north of the border to take on the Blue Jays (15-14 2 GB AL East) in a three game series. The Royals won 3 of 4 against the Blue Jays last week in KC.

Note: I'm almost through April, and I'm having fun playing every pitch/inning, but I know my gaming time will be limited soon due to work/family. Do I keep my current format, or do I try to play one, sim five, to keep the season moving forward? Thoughts?

Our #2 overall pick. The plan is to start him at SS in 2025 and Elly will transition to the OF. This guy teamed with McLain is a dream INF. Elly roaming hopefully CF and the defense upgrades immediately.

Josh Jung won the HR Derby over Ohtani. I played every guy so it was cool the hometown guy won. 27 with Teoscar Hernandez in round one was my best.

Allstar game was absolutely wild. I was down 7-3 to begin the 8th. Francisco Lindor hits a two run HR, a RBI double, then Austin Riley hits another 2 run bomb to give us the 8-7 lead.

Texas Rangers Update Season 3 MOM.

Last season ended in a bitter disappointment as we lost in the Wild Card round to the Angels. We took a 1 0 series lead and had an 8-1 lead in game 2. After that the wheels came off. The Angels came back and took a 10 8 lead. It was the top of the 9th with 2 outs but Foscue and Garcia went back to back to tie it at 10. However bottom 10 Mike Trout hits a walk off. We went on to lose game 3 7 -2. The Atlanta Braves won the World series as they played the Baltimore Orioles. Baltimore was returning to the Series for its 2nd consecutive year. In 2024 they lost to the Dodgers. We did have a very promising offseason as we were able to sign Guerrero and Chris Paddack. With a payroll of 257 mil we now have the highest Payroll in MLB. Here is our projected lineup for the 2026 season

C- Anthony Benboom or Keiner Falefa (signed in FA)
                                1b- Guerrero
                                2b- Semien
ss- Seagar ( Back after a monster season but got hurt and missed the final month)
                                3B- Jung
LF- Soto (Missed a month a half but still hit 24hrs)
                                CF Evan Carter
                                RF- Adolis Garcia
                                DH Wyatt Langford

As you can see offense should not be an issue, pitching on the other hand we will see. Eovaldi a Cy Young candidate would not resign and neither did 14 game winner Jon Gray

                                1. Shane Bieber (Ranger pitcher of the year. 35 starts 180ks
                                2. Chris Paddack (FA Signing)
                                3. Tyler Mahle
                                4. Bailey Ober
                                5. Jacob Degrom (Terrible last year, really declined after year 1)

                                Cl- Josh Sborz
                                SU- Wandy Peralta
                                SU Brock Burke
