A few days ago, I claimed Joey Wendle off waivers from th Mets for my Braves. Didn't even realize that the Braves had signed Joey Wendle earlier that day. Weird coincidence that let me know I was on the right track.

        2024 Chicago Cubs 04/08-04/10

        Overall Record:9-3 (1st NL Central/1.0 over Milwaukee

        Game Results:

        Game 1
        Cubs-7
        Padres-1

        Game 2
        Cubs-8
        Padres-6

        Game 3
        Padres-6
        Cubs-5

Imanaga's excellent debut sets pace in Cubs' series win

Shota Imanaga made his MLB debut in game one vs the Padres and he was dominate. He pitched eight innings while he allowed just six hits, no walks and struck out ten. He did allow one run that was scored after he left the game in the bottom of the ninth.

It was basically a bullpen game for the Padres who got just 3.1 innings out of their starter, Michael King but that is understandable as he also started San Diego's previous game. The Cubs then got their first look at Matt Waldron and his crazy knuckleball. They would get four hits off of him however and score the game's first run in the sixth inning. That run came as Dansby Swanson kept his hitting streak alive with an rbi single to knock in Bellinger who had singled and stole second earlier in the inning.

Chicago then went on to score six in the seventh inning off of a combination of Jhony Brito and Stephen Kolek (4 and 2 ERs) as they eventually took the first game 7-1 to give Imanaga the win in his first MLB start.

The teams then went on to split the next two games in close matchups as Chicago took game two, 8-6 and San Diego won game three, 6-5 on a 10th inning walk off grounder hit by Kyle Higashioka.

The Cubs will now head North to Seattle for three against the Mariners (5-8/5th AL West).

*Note 1* I didnt even know about Shota Imanaga until I saw a post about him leading the league in ERA. He however wasnt on the Roster I started the season with so I had to edit a low Single A pitcher and copy over his live roster attributes. Also, I had to name him Shoa because the show says Shota is inappropriate although they now have him in the game.

*Note 2* Dansby Swanson has gotten a hit in every game this season.

I didn't really mind them taking out Inside the Show, but I'm glad I go back and look at all the boxscores from the previous day.

Jacob deGrom tossed the first no-hitter of the year for Texas in a 5-0 win over the Mariners. He was a walk away from a perfect game.

Hopefully they took it out to expand on it or come back with something better...but they probably didnt. I do however watch the scores and news on the ticker during my games

              Aug 30 - Sept 1, 2024: FLAGSTAFF (66-72) @ PRESCOTT (62-76)
              Stadium: ASARCO Park (Capacity: 7,170)

              August 30: Hops 5, Hot Shots 3
              August 31: Hops 9, Hot Shots 7
              September 1: Hot Shots 5, Hops 4

Prescott, AZ (AP) - The Hops were so close to a much needed sweep, but a walk off on Sunday afternoon helped the Hot Shots avoid the sweep and dimmed the playoff hopes of the surging Hops.

The Hops opened up a weekend series in Prescott on a positive note with a 5-3 victory to run their winning streak to four games. The Hops hit four home runs in the game, including two from Forrest Owen as they continue to creep back in the playoff conversation.

Flagstaff would grab a 2-0 lead in the second on a Forrest Owen two-run shot to left. They would extend that lead to 5-0 in the fourth on three solo home runs as David Petrovski (15), Oscar Aleman (5) and Forrest Owen (20) all homered.

The Hot Shots would get one back in the fifth on a solo home run from J.J. Ruffing, his 15th on the season. They would get two more in the eighth on a Ben Olsen two-run shot off of reliever Sam Varela to cut it to 5-3. It was Olsen's 24th on the season.

Vic Miller came on in the ninth and sent down the Hot Shots in order to pick up his 31st save.

Ryan Pressley (12-10) was impressive, pitching six innings and allowing one run on six hits while striking out 11. Ken Smith (9-11) took the loss for Prescott, allowing five runs on four hits in four innings, all four hits were home runs.

On Saturday afternoon, the Hops won a wild one 9-7. The teams combined to hit 10 home runs in the game as the Hops won their fifth straight.

Flagstaff grabbed a 1-0 lead in the first on a David Petrovski solo home run, his 16th on the season.

Prescott would answer back with single runs in the second and third to grab the lead. Josh Carroll homered in the second and J.J. Ruffing homered in the third, his second home run of the series.

A Forrest Owen solo home run tied it in the fifth, then things got wild.

The Hops would grab the lead in the top of the sixth, scoring three runs on a Donnie Roland two-out, three-run home run to right, his 6th on the season, and the Hops went up 5-2.

But Prescott would answer back off of the shaky Hops bullpen. Samuel Espinoza came on in relief of Alex Framer and got the first two batters that he faced out. Harwin O'Kane singled and stole second, then scored on a J.J. Ruffing RBI single to center. Paul Knapp then blasted a two-run home run to left to tie the game at 5-5.

In the seventh, Ryan Kelly hit a two-out, two-run home run to left, his 20th on the year, to put Flagstaff back up by two at 7-5. But the Hot Shots responded again. This time a solo home run from Ben Olsen, his 25th on the year, pulled the Hot Shots to within one. Matt Blake went to Pedro Macias and the first pitch he threw was blasted into the seats in right by Josh Carroll, his second on the afternoon, and we were once again tied at 7-7.

But this resilient bunch responded immediately with Roberto Geronimo (28) and Oscar Aleman (6) hitting solo home runs in the top of the eighth to put Flagstaff back up by two at 9-7.

Pedro Macias would come back out in the eighth to shut down the Hot Shots and Oliver Benedict was called on in the ninth and he worked a 1-2-3 inning to pick up his sixth save. Samuel Espinoza (2) and Pedro Macias (5) had blown saves, but Macias earned the win to improve to (2-4).

Ryan Kelly went 3 for 4 with a home run to extend his hitting streak to 16 games.

On Sunday afternoon, Matt Olsen led off the bottom of the ninth with a solo home run, his third of the series, to left off of Aldo Osuna to walk it off as Prescott avoided the sweep with a 5-4 victory over the Hops.

This one was scoreless into the seventh inning before Forrest Owen hit a two-run home run off of reliever Matt Coburn to put the Hops up 2-0. It was his 22nd on the season and fourth of the series.

In the bottom half, Juro Yamaguchi gave up a leadoff single to Paul Knapp and was lifted. Oliver Benedict came on and things fell apart. He gave up an RBI double to Ben Olsen, to cut the lead in half. Josh Carroll grounded out. Khris Kovach grounded one to third and Donnie Roland went home with the throw to gun down Ben Olsen to keep it 2-1. Harwill O'Kane then drew a key nine pitch walk. J.J. Ruffing then blasted a three-run home run to put the Hot Shots up 4-2. It was Ruffing's 17th on the season and third in three games in this series.

In the eighth, Ryan Kelly reached on an infield single with one out. Oscar Aleman then pinch hit for Emmitt Hampton against the lefty and hit the first pitch that he saw off of the scoreboard in right center to tie the game at 4-4, his 7th on the year and the second straight game with a home run.

That would setup Ben Olsen to win it in the ninth off of Aldo Osuna (4-7). Juro Yamaguchi deserved a better fate, tossing six plus innings, allowing one run on two hits, striking out eight, but getting no decision. Oliver Benedict picked up the blown save, his second, getting just two outs, but allowing three runs on two hits with a walk.

Ryan Kelly went 2 for 4 to extend his hitting streak to 17 games.

Next up is a huge three game series at home against first place St George (73-65). The Hops (66-72) are seven games back and can get right back into the playoff discussion with a sweep. Anything less and their season is likely over. They play seven of their next 12 games against the Archers.

Around the League: San Diego's Matt Campbell struck out 11, allowing two runs over seven innings as he improved to (14-6) as the Seals pounded Tucson 12-3. Matt Mulder and Javier Vatencia each drove in four runs to lead the offense for the first-place Seals.

Scottsdale's Jaime Pacheco tossed a complete game, four-hit shutout, striking out nine, as the Scorpions took care of Glendale 4-0. Pacheco improved to a DL best (17-5), lowering his ERA to 2.58 and has emerged as one of the leading candidates for DL Cy Young.

Albuquerque's, and former Flagstaff Hop, Leandro Lugo homered twice, driving in four runs as the Mariachi's scored 11 runs in the final two innings in a 13-2 victory over first-place Rio Rancho.

Chandler's woes continued as they dropped a 3-0 decision to Gilbert on Saturday afternoon with Stanley Taguchi (11-8) taking the loss and David Lee (9-10) picking up the win for the Barnstormers. The Chiefs have now just (11-17) in August and no longer have the best record in the IBL. They still lead the DL East comfortably, leading Gilbert by 12.5 games.

Scottsdale won a wild won on Saturday afternoon, walking it off against Goodyear 10-9 on a Martin Perez two-run home run (22) in the bottom of the tenth inning. The Scorpions are now (31-8) since the All-Star break and have the best record in the IBL at (82-55).

Rio Rancho's Rollie Flingers improved to (19-5) as the Owlz defeated Albuquerque 8-5 on Saturday evening. Flingers threw 7.2 innings, allowing four runs on eight hits, striking out seven and walking two.

Chandler's Jon Lane blasted a fourth inning grand slam (12) to power Chandler to a 6-2 win over Gilbert to avoid a weekend sweep.

                  2024 Chicago Cubs 04/12-04/14

Overall Record:10-5 (1st NL Central/0.5 over St. Louis

                  Game Results:

                  Game 1
                  Mariners-8

                  Mariners-6

                  Game 3
                  Mariners-2
                  Cubs-1

Cubs, Imanaga humbled in first series loss of '24

It's still very early in 2024 but the Cubbies were enjoying their hot start to the year. While they still sit atop the NL Central and have one of the best records in baseball, they did lose their first series of the young seaon.

That loss came at the hands of the now 7-9 Seattle Mariners.

Game one was absolutely dominated by Seattle. Bryce Miller was domiate for the home team and the offense got to Chicago's Javier Assad early, knocking him out after just two innings.

As mentioned, Seattle didnt waste any time getting to the third year pitcher as the first four batters recorded hits. The final of the four was Cal Raleigh who hit a two run double that added to Julio Rodriguez's earlier rbi to make the score 3-0. Seattle then went on to double down in the second inning and score three more to lead it 6-0 after just two innings. Assad did pitch into the third but after allowing a couple more hits that would eventually come around for his seventh and eigth earned run, he was pulled from the game.

Jordan Wicks then came into the game and pitched the remainder, six innings with just one hit allowed but the damage had been done and all Chicago could muster offensively was a fifth inning homerun by Ian Happ (3) as Seattle took the victory, 8-1.

Game two saw Chicago return the favor as they scored five runs against Bryan Woo in the first inning (two run HR by Patrick Wisdom (4) and three run HR by Christopher Morel (3). Chicago however wasnt as good at keeping the lead and the game would eventually go into extras, tied 5-5.

The Cubs were able to score twice in the 10th and then were able to hold the Mariners to just one in the bottom half of the inning as Chicago won the game, 7-6 and tied the series, 1-1.

Shota Imanaga was lights out in his first MLB game. In that game, he threw over 100 pitches and allowed just one run. In his second start, it only took one pitch to give up another run as Sam Haggerty took him deep (#1) to leadoff the bottom half of inning.

He would somewhat settle down but still wasnt as good as the first game.

Cody Bellinger tied it in the fourth with his third homerun of the season and Seattle retook the lead in the sixth. After that, neither offense scored as Seattle took the game, 2-1 and won the series 2-1 as well.

Things dont get much easier for Chicago as they fly out to Arizona took take on the defending NL champion Arizona Diamondbacks (9-7/1st NL West) to end their road trip.

One thing I like to do in my franchises is replace the randomly generated draft picks with former legends of the game. I basically make them like upper 60s rookie versions of themselves with high potential and put one on each team. Only downside is that it's pretty time consuming to create all the players but I was curious if there are any forums or maybe communities elsewhere that had people posting their versions of players with the sliders so I may be able to speed up the process.

Swanson's big series lifts Cubs to sweep of D-Backs

Dansby Swanson had his hit streak that had spanned every game of the new season broken up in game one versus Seattle in Chicago's last series. Not to be deterred, he had his best series of the year against Arizona.

Swanson's series against the Diamondbacks was nothing short of amazing as he finished, 7-10 with 11 RBIS. It all got started off in game one when he hit two homeruns and a sac fly for his first five RBI game of the series. His two homeruns were complimented by four others by Nico Hoerner, Seiya Suzuki, Cody Bellinger and Patrick Wisdom as the Cubbies won the game 10-5.

He then matched that game in game two as he hit two more homeruns one of which was a first inning grand slam. Arizona made an attempt at a come back late but the Cubs were able to hold on for the 6-5 win.

Game three wasn't as good for Swanson RBI wise as he managed just one but he also went 3-3 as the Cubs took the game 4-2 to sweep the series, 3-0.

It's very early but Swanson has to be considered an early MVP candidate. Can he continue this production? The Cubs sure hope so.

After going 6-3 in their road trip, Chicago will now return home as they welcome the Miami Marlins (8-11/3rd NL East) to town for thre games.

Got tired of constantly starting a franchise, updating here for a week and then restarting so went back to simpler times so to speak lol.
Got my rosters and overalls where I wanted them and began a new idea for myself. Normally I start a rebuild and get burnt out. This year now that sometimes from the garbage can scandal has past I felt I could try something different for myself. Instead of a rebuild try and continue and perhaps retool the Astros dynasty. They have some interesting decisions to make with Tucker and Bregman. Still have some holes to fill, looking at you Abreu while having a barren prospect room (no top 100 prospects). I normally try and play pretty quickly so I can rush in and update but I just reached 4th of July in my franchise after a solid 4 weeks of playing 1 game from every series. Taking it slow to avoid burnout and really diving into what this team has and what it needs.

With all the injuries implemented to start the season it was a BRUTAL start. We didn't reach 1st place till mid June, thankfully the division is struggling itself so while treading water I was n3ver too far back. As it stands I'm 4.5 games up on Seattle and Texas who are tied for 2nd. I just broke 8 games over .500 and am looking to widen the gap as Verlander and Urquidy have each gotten 4 starts since beginning their 2024 seasons.
In more art imitating life, Bieber, Acuna, Strider and Trout have all hit the I.L at one point or another.

Cardinals sign Edmundo Sosa to one year deal

Stepping away from pitching for a moment, the Cardinals have signed former Cardinal IF Edmundo Sosa to a one year deal worth $2.5M. Sosa played for the Phillies the past few seasons and struggled in limited duties last year.

With all the injuries the Cardinals suffered last year, Brendan Donovan, Tommy Edman and Masyn Winn, the Cardinals felt the need to find a veteran versatile infielder and they get that in Sosa. Plate production may not be great, but he has a good glove, can play all 4 spots, and possesses speed.

Dodgers sign Blake Snell and Shane Bieber. Mets bolster bullpen with Tanner Scott

The Dodgers may have the strongest and deepest rotation in 2025. With Ohtani and Yamamoto at the top of the realm and arms such as Dustin May, Clayton Kershaw and Tony Gonsolin at your disposal, you now add Blake Snell and Shane Bieber to the mix, and the Dodgers are deep and potent.

The Mets improved their bullpen by signing LHP Tanner Scott to a 9 year deal. Scott will work alongside Edwin Diaz in the closer role. Diaz blew more saves than the Mets would prefer, or maybe tolerate is the better way of saying it, so adding another arm like Scott to either replace, platoon, or help improve Diaz is a welcome addition that makes the backend of that bullpen strong.
