Re: MLB The Show 24 Franchise Mode Discussion Thread

Don’t typically post my franchise on here, but I just had the most exciting game that I’ve had on The Show since probably 2020. Cold April Sunday night in Cleveland. The Guardians had snapped my(Yankees) 8 game winning streak the game before. Sole possession of first place in the AL East was on the line(only April 14th but still) Had been in a 3 way tie with the Orioles and Rays, and both had already lost their games. Also I haven’t lost a series in the young season, so that was also on the line. I sent Garrett Cole to the mound, the Guardians sent Shane Bieber. I thought I would be able to get to him because he started the season 0-3 with a 6.2 ERA. But, he brought his A game. Both starters got through 7 with only 1 run a piece. The bullpens held the 1 run scores through the 9th. In the bottom of the 9th the Guardians managed to get runners on the corners with only 1 out. I thought for sure it would be a walk off. But a line out to short and a clutch K sent us to extras. First batter for the Yanks in extras was Alex Verdugo. He hit a fly out to deep center to advance the extra inning runner to third. Austin Wells followed with a sac fly to put us ahead 2-1. On to the bottom, Clay Holmes on to close it out. First batter up hit a grounder to advance the extra inning runner to third. I walked Josh Naylor because he had absolutely destroyed me this series. Next up Jose Ramirez. Got a quick strike one, then a ball. I then threw 3 straight pitches in the zone with no swings, all called balls. Bases loaded with 1 only one gone. Next batter pops up to the catcher. 2 gone. Then a grounder straight to Volpe, holy crap I’m going to get out of it with a win. But Volpe bobbles it for his second error of the game. Run scores. Tied 2-2. Next batter strikes out. On to the 11th. A struggling DJ Lemahieu grounds to second to move the runner to third. Soto singles to bring him home. Yanks up 3-2. On to the bottom of the 11th with that score. Clay Holmes on for his second inning. A ground out to second moves the runner up to third. 1 gone. Shallow pop to short. 2 gone. Ground out to third and ball game. Yankees win 3-2. I’m now a believer in the extra inning runner rule. I had a great time with that one. Sorry for the long post.

        2024 Chicago Cubs 04/23-05/25

Overall Record:18-7 (1st NL Central/2.0 over St. Louis)

        Game Results

        Game 1
        Cubs-3
        Astros-2

        Game 2
        Astros-13
        Cubs-12

        Game 3
        Cubs-6
        Astros-4

Cubs win tough series over Astros

What a series that was! The Chicago Cubs beat the Houston Astros, 2 games to 1. Game one was your everyday 11 inning affair that ended on a Patrick Wisdom sac fly as the Cubs took the series opener, 3-2.

Game two was the exact opposite as the teams combined for 11 homeruns, the last coming off the bat of Corey Julks, his second of the game that gave the Astros the lead and eventual win, 13-12.

Game three wasn't void of homeruns either as the two teams combined for another five.

The story of the series as a whole was Yan Gomes who suddenly found his power stroke as he homered once in each game. His game three homerun came in the bottom of the 9th to give the Cubbies their second walk off of the series. His homerun also knocked in Ian Happ who singled earlier in the inning as the Cubs took the 6-4 victory and the series, 2-1.

The Cubs will now travel to Boston to take on the Red Sox (18-8/1st AL East) in a battle for first month superiority with both teams entering the series with the 18 wins.

Beat the Mariners 16-10 in probably the craziest game I've ever played in this series.

It was 2-1 after five. The M's hit five homers; we hit four. Seattle had a 6-run sixth inning; we countered with an 8-run seventh. The Mariners went through their entire bullpen; they had starter Luis Castillo warming up at the end.

Tyler Matzek's line: 0.1, 5 runs (all earned), 5 hits, 1 walk and 1 strikeout. And he was your winning pitcher.

Re: MLB The Show 24 Franchise Mode Discussion Thread

We have hit July on my Reds franchise season one. I do trades manually for all teams using some amount of randomness/luck to decide who gets who. Based on league standings I've now determined the "sellers". Here are a list of just a handful of guys who will most likely be traded before the deadline.

              Rockies LF Charlie Blackmon
              Marlins 1B Josh Bell
Mets 1B Pete Alonso, SP Luis Severino
              Giants RF Michael Conforto
              Tigers SP Jack Flaherty
Guardians SP Shane Bieber, RP Scott Barlow
Red Sox CP Kenley Jansen, SP Nick Pivetta, RF Tyler O'Neill
Blue Jays 1B Vladimir Guerrero Jr., C Danny Jansen, RP Yimi García, 3B Justin Turner.
White Sox RP John Brebbia, LF Tommy Pham.

I of course will put myself in the running for Alonso, Guerrero, and Bieber. This will be a very exciting time for us if we get lucky and get even one of them.

Draft is coming up and we have the #2 overall pick. Honestly no idea who I am drafting. Scouting is either not easy on this game, or I don't have the best strategy through the year lol.

              League leaders through June 2024:

AVG- CIN TJ Friedl .332/ TEX Corey Seager .339
HRs- ATL Austin Riley 21/ HOU Yordan Alvarez 29
RBI- ATL Austin Riley, Matt Olson 67/ TEX Corey Seager 77
ERA- COL Cal Quantrill 2.25/ TB Drew Rasmussen 1.80
Ks- ATL Spencer Strider 107/ TOR Kevin Guasman 94

Re: MLB The Show 24 Franchise Mode Discussion Thread

And let the trades begin! Went ahead and got started as we kick off the month of July. Two trades have been completed.

Angels and Rockies begin the trading. Angels, who are 43-40, only 3.5gb of final wildcard spot. They are currently on a 10 game win streak and the hottest team in baseball.

                Angels receive: RF Charlie Blackmon.
Rockies receive: prospect CF Bryce Teodosio.

Last trade is between Red Sox and the Diamondbacks. Dbacks who are 54-30 lead the NL West over LA by 7.5 games. They really are going all in here trying to get back to the World Series.

                Diamondbacks receive: SP Nick Pivetta
Red Sox receive: CF Druw Jones, SP Cristian Mena, LF Kristian Robinson.

Red Sox got two A rated prospects here, but that was the cost for a really good SP that the Dbacks needed to bolster their rotation in front of their great bullpen. Sewald leads league in saves.

Pivetta will make his debut in the final game in LA vs the Dodgers who will have Kershaw pitching. July 4th as well so that is pretty cool. I honestly may just watch that game to see how it goes.

Long ball leads to Cardinals series loss to Mariners

The Cardinals (1-2) started the 2025 season off on the wrong foot, dropping a 3 game series to the Mariners in Seattle over the weekend.

The Cardinals won on Opening Day behind 9 runs on 15 hits, none of which came via the long ball. Sonny Gray was solid on the mound getting thru 7 innings giving up 3 runs on 5 hits. But the bullpen made it somewhat interesting. Leading 9-2, Alex Reyes proceeded to give up 3 runs to make it 9-5 after 8. The Cardinals. The Mariners would make things intriguing in the 9th with a runner on, but a timely double play would end the threat leading to the Opening Day win.

Max Fried made his debut Saturday and was solid. He get thru 6 innings giving up a single run but wouldn't get the decision. Tied at 1 heading into the 9th, Jordan Hicks would give up a walk-off single to Mitch Garver as the Mariners took game 2.

The series finale saw Walker Bueheler take the mound. He was perfect thru 4 innings but then gave up a solo homerun to Mitch Garver in the 5th to tie the game at 1. He would give up another homerun to Ryan Bliss that made it 2-1 and then another J.P Crawford to make it 3-1. Jeff Hoffman would come out of the pen and give up a 2nd homerun to Mitch Garver as the M's would go on to win 5-1 and take the series.

In total the Cardinals pitching staff gave up 8 homeruns over the 3 game series, tied for the most after the first weekend with the White Sox.

The Cardinals head home to St.Louis as they welcome the Diamondbacks to town for a 3 game series.
I can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.

I miss the old days of Operation Sports :(

Royals Drop Series to the White Sox, Sign Free Agent Bat

The Royals (6-4, 0.5 GB AL Central) dropped 3 of 4 to the White Sox as their bats went quiet for most of the series.

Bobby Witt Jr left the first game in the 2nd inning after diving for a ball. He is expected to be out for 1-6 days with a bruised arm.

Also, the Royals signed free agent RF JD Martinez to a 1 year, 9.50M deal. Because of the signing, MJ Melendez has been optioned to Triple-A Omaha.

Next up: The Royals stay home to take on the Houston Astros (4-7 3.0 GB AL West) in a three game series.

                        Cardinals sweep Diamondbacks in St.Louis

The Cardinals (4-2) got their first series win of the 2025 season as they swept the Diamondbacks in a 3 game series in St.Louis.

Pitching was superb in the series with Jack Flaherty, Miles Mikolas, and Sonny Gray all having strong outings on the mound with each going at least 7 innings. Sonny Gray pitched a complete game on Wednesday. With the starters out, the bullpen was just as effective.

Offensively the Cards got the bats rolling with Nolan Gorman and Lars Nootbaar leading the way with 5 hits each in the series. Victor Scott was effective on the basepaths as he stole 4 bases in the series and leads all of baseball with 8 thus far.

The Cardinals remain home as the Rockies will visit for a 3 game series this weekend.
I can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.

I miss the old days of Operation Sports :(

Is the game of the week presentation still a thing this year? I haven't seen it so far.

Royals Take Series From the Astros

The Royals (8-5, 1st AL Central) took 2 of 3 over the Astros as the bats finally woke up.

Bobby Witt Jr. returned from injury and got 4 hits in the series.

The last game saw 6 different Royals get RBIs as they won 7-5.

Next up: The Royals head to the Big Apple to take on the New York Mets (4-9 6.0 GB NL East) in a three game series.

My season is falling apart in a hurry. For the first month my pitching staff was playing well above their rankings and the Mets were able to control the NL East. In May things came crashing back down to earth and the pitching staff minus Senga is just terrible. The Phillies have trimmed my lead down to just half a game and the Braves are one game behind me. If I fall in to third place I'mDFA'ing Marte, Quintana, and Manaea who have all been completely useless. I'm hoping Quintana and Manaea will have high enough ratings that some sucker will take on their contracts when they hit waivers, that's what happened when I dumped Adrian Houser. On a positive note, Pete Alonso is on pace to shatter Barry Bonds' single season home run record with 31 HRs through June 2

The beauty of the randomness of this game if you keep playing game after game.
