        TIGERS ACQUIRE TROUT FROM ANGELS

The Detroit Tigers have landed the biggest fish at the 2024 MLB Trade Deadline. Detroit has acquired disgruntled outfielder Mike Trout from the Los Angeles Angels, for a package of players.

Trout who was hitting .271 with 25 HR and 65 RBI in 98 games with the Angels, had requested a trade just a couple days earlier, after the Angels traded Brandon Drury and Taylor Ward to the Phillies.

There was some speculation as to if the Angels would actually deal Trout, but he then threatened retirement if they didn't. Detroit stepped in, and worked out a deal with the Angels. Trout, who has a full no-trade clause, agreed to waive it, to join the Tigers for the playoff run.

The Tigers are sending four players back to the Angels. Center field prospect Max Clark is the biggest chip. The Angels will also receive third base prospect Jace Jung, along with pitcher Reese Olson, and outfielder Matt Vierling. Olson and Vierling are expected to remain with the Angels. Olson was 3-1 with a save, in 34 innings with the Tigers. He had a 3.18 ERA. Vierling hit .293 with 3 HR and 10 RBI in 47 games with the Tigers. Olson is expected to join the Angels rotation, while Vierling will likely take Trout's spot in right field.

Meanwhile, Trout goes from the outhouse to the penthouse. The Tigers currently have the best record in the Major Leagues, and are poised to make the playoffs for the first time since 2014. Trout is expected to hit second in the Tiger lineup, and play right field on most nights.

Cardinals trade Jo Jo Romero and Moises Gomez to White Sox for Garrett Crochet

The Cardinals and White Sox have struck a deal this offseason.

          Cardinals Get:

          LHP Garrett Crochet

          White Sox:

          LHP Jo Jo Romero
          OF Moises Gomez

Both teams are trading and receiving LHP relief pitching that struggled in the 2024 season, both posting ERA's over 5. The White Sox are also getting OF Moises Gomez who was part of a crowded outfield prospect group.

Phillies sign Pete Alonso and Juan Soto

The Phillies made a huge splash this offseason signing both Pete Alonso and Juan Soto. The Phillies who lost to the Braves in the NLCS last year, now will present one of, if not the most, potent lineups in baseball. Adding Alonso and Soto to the likes of Trea Turner, Bryce Harper, JT Realmuto will likely equate to the Phillies giving opposing staffs fits and nightmares of how to navigate thru.

Its early and pre-Spring Training but you got to believe that the Phillies and Dodgers are the co-favorites to win the National League.

Cardinals sign Max Fried and Jeff Hoffman to boost pitching staff

The Cardinals have signed LHP Max Fried and RHP Jeff Hoffman to help improve their weakest link from a season ago.

Fried signed a one year $11.5M deal. This is a "show me" year for Fried who only pitched 20+ innings last year due to injury. Fried will join Sonny Gray, Walker Buehler, Jack Flaherty, and likely Miles Mikolas as the 5 man rotation for the Cardinals in 2025.

Jeff Hoffman had an outstanding 2024 season with the Phillies. He allowed 4 earned in 40+ innings of work last year which equates to a 0.88 ERA all while posting 52 strikeouts in those innings.

Long time lurker of this thread, and I thought that by documenting my progress, it might help me stay engaged longer and avoid restarting.

                Team: Kansas City Royals
                Roster: Opening Day SDS
                Difficulty: Hall of Fame (Timing/Meter)

My goal is to play every pitch/inning, but if I end up simming some here and there, so be it.

I will try and update after each series or if any interesting things happen around the league.

I really enjoy reading everyone's franchises, so hopefully, mine will be interesting as well.

                Here we go!

Cubs take series versus Miami, 3-1

The Cubs extended their winning streak to six before surrendering the final game of their four game series with the Miami Marlins. Game one was a low scoring affair that went in Chicago's favor as Jameson Taillon was excellent (8 IP 4 H 0 R 10 SO) for his third win of the season (3-0). No other then Dansby Swanson accounted for the lone run in the game when he hit an RBI single in the fourth inning that brought Cody Bellinger in after he singled and stole second earlier in the inning.

Chicago's offense then got going in games two and three as they scored eight in each, winning 8-1 and 8-3.

Unfortunately, they were not able to complete the four game sweep as the offense went cold again in game three while Miami took the game, 4-1.

The Cubs will now enter their last home series of April as they welcome Houston (9-14/5th AL West) to town.

Royals Take 2 of 3 Against Twins To Open Season

The Royals (2-1) played in three close one run games to start the 2024 season.

Opening Day saw the Royals fall 4-3 in 10 innings after the Royals tied it in the bottom of the 9th. Starter Cole Ragans (0-0 3.60 ERA) went 5 innings and gave up a whopping 11 hits. Bobby Witt Jr. went 3 for 5 with a HR and 2 RBIs. Adam Frazier also hit a HR in the losing effort.

Saturday's game was another close one as the Royals won 3-2 in 10 innings after John Schreiber gave up the lead in the 9th. Starter Seth Lugo (0-0 1.17 ERA) went 7.2 innings, giving up only 3 hits and 1 run with 6 strikeouts. MJ Melendez led the way with 3 hits, including the game winning hit in the bottom of the 10th.

Sunday's rubber match saw the Royals win 3-2 behind starter Brady Singer (1-0 2.57 ERA), throwing a great game besides giving up 9 hits and 2 runs in 7 innings pitched. Will Smith picked up his first save of the season.

Next up: The Royals hit the road for the first time in 2024 to take on the Baltimore Orioles (2-1 0.5 GB AL East) in a three game series.

Atlanta Braves 2024 World Series vs Houston Astros

How They Got Here: A lot of the regular stars here had great seasons, as Jordan Alvarez (1.058 OPS, 38 homers, 112 RBI) was the best hitter in the American League, Kyle Tucker (1.008 OPS, 41 homers, 38 SB) had the best season of his career, Altuve (.925 OPS, 28 homers, 23 SB) continued to be special at 33, and Alex Bregman (.905 OPS, 27 HR, 106 RBI) had a huge campaign as the Astros scored the third most runs in all of baseball. It was Chas McCormick, however, who led the team in WAR thanks to a 34-homer, .918 OPS season. McCormick helped overshadow the bad season from Jeremy Pena, who really struggled at the plate despite still played good defense for Houston. The rotation was not good this year, as an aging Justin Verlander was bad enough to move to the bullpen despite nobody in the rotation possessing a sub-4.00 ERA. The bullpen was really solid, especially the trio of Josh Hader, Wander Suero, and Bryan Abreu in the back, as the team ranked 17th in ERA. The offense did power them to a 98-64 season that was good for the top wildcard spot after the Texas Rangers won 101 games. Houston then quickly won their wildcard series against the Toronto Blue Jays in two games, took out Texas in five thrilling games in the divisional round, and took down the Minnesota Twins in six in the Championship series. The team has continued to hit the ball really well, as expected, and the pitching has been stellar throughout the postseason to help push them through the playoffs. The Braves are the favorites here, but Houston can absolutely win this series.

Game One (In Atlanta): The Braves finished off the Dodgers in dramatic fashion from the offese, and that carried over in a dominant game one of the World Series. Ronald Acuna, who was hitting .179 for the postseason heading into this game, collected four hits, a homer, four RBI, and two stolen bases in a 13-3 rout of Houston. Atlanta drew eight walks with 12 hits and four homers, while Max Fried allowed two runs over six innings while the bullpen combination of Aaron Bummer, Joe Jiminez, and Tyler Matzek combined for one run allowed over three innings.

Result: Atlanta wins 13-3, Braves up 1-0.

Game Two (In Atlanta): Things got off to a great start again for Atlanta, as Ronald Acuna hit a two-run homer and was followed by a solo shot from Matt Olson in the first inning to give Atlanta a quick 3-0 lead. Chris Sale would put up a really good performance, only allowing a Jon Singleton homer in the third inning as he pitched 6.1 innings of good ball. Still holding a 3-1 lead, Reynaldo Lopez would allow a run in the seventh. Michael Harris would mash a two-run shot in the bottom of the inning before Acuna hit his second homer of the game and third of the World Series to give Atlanta a four-run cushion. AJ Minter would a loww a homer to Kyle Tucker in the eighth inning to squeeze the margin again to make it 6-3. Raisel Iglesias entered the game with three perfect innings in the postseason, but would allow a three-run homer to Yandy Diaz without recording an out before being taken out in favor of Chris Martin. Martin would continue the bullpen’s major issue s though with a homer to Altuve long with a Jeremy Pena RBI single to score Tucker later in the inning to finish off a five-run ninth in what was eventually a 8-6 win for Houston that Atlanta controlled throughout. The Braves bullpen struggles have evident the entire postseason, as only Joe Jimenez (0.00) and Aaron Bummer (1.58) have an ERA under 5 for the bullpen so far in October.

Result: Houston wins 8-6, tie the series at 1-1.

Game Three (at Houston): It’s never a good thing when you have the same amount of errors as you do hits, but that’s exactly what happened to the Astros in game three. Charlie Morton held a no hitter until the final out of the seventh inning, eventually completing eight innings of dominant pitching. On the other side, the Houston Astros pitching combination that was led by Hunter Brown was absolutely bludgeoned in this one. Marcell Ozuna hit 3 homers, Ozzie Albies hit two (now up to 10 this postseason), and Austin Riley hit one of his own as Atlanta boatraced Houston 14-0 after a disappointing ending to game two. Atlanta is clearly in control with how the offense and starting pitching are playing.

Result: Atlanta wins 14-0, take series lead at 2-1.

Game Four (at Houston): Spencer Strider made his first World Series start for Atlanta in this one, and the offense made sure to give him some early run support. Before he threw his first pitch, the Braves were up 3-0 thanks to another pair of Ronald Acuna and Matt Olson (two run) homers off of Lance McCullers. Atlanta built that lead to 5-0 thanks to an Olson RBI double followed by another run scoring off of an Ozzie Albies double play in the third inning. Jordan Alvarez would strike with a homer off of a 3-2 fastball from Strider. Both pitchers would settle in and we made it all the way to the bottom of the seventh without more scoring. With Strider dealing, Alex Bregman caught up to a fastball and poked it over the left field wall for a solo homer. This would be followed by a big fly from Yandy Diaz to make it 5-3. After a Chase McCormick triple, Reynaldo Lopez would take over from Strider with no outs. Lopez would strike out Jeremy Peña before a Jose Altuve single made it 5-4. Lopez would then strikeout Jose Chris Julks and Alvarez to end the inning. Albies would make his presence felt with yet another homer in the top of the eighth to make it 6-4. Tyler Matzek would come in and get an out before walking Bregman and getting a pop up to Diaz. Chris Martin would come in and give a double to McCormick that would score Bregman before finishing out the inning still up 6-5. Raisel Iglesias would come in and breeze through the bottom of the ninth, making up for his game two struggles to give Atlanta a huge lead in the series.

Result: Braves win 6-5, up 3-1 in the series.

Game Five (in Houston): In perhaps his final game as an Atlanta Brave, Max Fried took the mound against Framber Valdez with the hopes of winning the second World Series for the franchise of the decade. He got help, yet again, early as Michael Harris led off the game with a homer before Ronald Acuna was able to get a single and a stolen base before Austin Riley and Matt Olson were able to move him in and over. Fried would give up a double to Kyle Tucker where he was driven in by Chase McCormick in the second inning, but he was phenomenal in this one. The score held at 2-1 until the top of the sixth, when Jarred Kelenic would drive in Austin Riley from second on a single to go up 3-1. It was the seventh inning, however, when things would all apart for Houston. The Braves would score nine runs, highlighted by a Marcell Ozuna two-run homer as well as a two-RBI INFIELD single from Austin Riley, in that seventh inning thanks to eight hits, a walk, and an error from Jon Singleton at first base. This would put the score at 12-1, and despite Houston scoring three runs against the bullpen over the latter two innings, the damage was obviously done with a final score of 12-4. For the second time this decade, the Atlanta Braves won a World Series and celebrated in Houston when doing so.

Result: 12-4 win for Braves, who are officially World Series Champs!

Postseason MVP: Ozzie Albies - A historic postseason run, Albies hit .327 with 11 homers and 19 RBI. Just insane.

World Series MVP: Ronald Acuna - Acuna had a couple of big moments in the first two rounds, but also hit just .179 heading into the World Series. In the five games against Houston, however, he hit .480 with four homers and 10 RBI and easily won this award.

Final Thoughts on Season: A fantastic regular season culminated with a great postseason run to the fifth title in franchise history. The Arizona and Los Angeles series both provided plenty of drama, but the World Series did not as Houston’s pitching staff, which was so bad this year, ran out of steam after a strong postseason. Atlanta scored in the first inning in three of the five games and never lasted more than three innings without at least two runs on the board. On the flip side, while the Atlanta bullpen struggled the last two rounds, the starting rotation was excellent and Houston had no answers for that. The highest ERA from a starter in the postseason landed on Chris Sale, at 3.06. The Braves played like the best team all year, and for once that ended with a World Series title in a sport where hot and cold streaks can end a season quickly. It was also a really nice moment that in perhaps his final start as a Brave, Fried put together a classic performance with six innings of one-run ball.

Royals Sweep Orioles, Extend Winning Streak To 5 Games

The Royals (5-1) swept the Orioles in a 3 game series in Baltimore. They dominated with timely hits and great pitching.

Monday's game saw the Royals take a close 6-5 win. Kyle Isbel was the bright spot on offense, going 3 for 3 with 2 RBI. Kyle Wright (1-0 4.50 ERA) pitched 6 innings to get the win. Will Smith picked up his 2nd save of the season.

Tuesday's game showed how good both teams pitching is. The Royals won 2-0 behind Michael Wacha's (1-0 0.00 ERA) 6 shutout innings. Vinnie Pasquantino hit a HR and MJ Melendez went 2 for 3. Will Smith entered for the save but left the game after one batter due to a strained finger. He's expected to be out 1-6 days. John Schreiber came in after the injury to record his first save of the season.

The final game of the series on Wednesday saw the Royals win 3-1 behind starter Cole Ragans (1-0 2.38 ERA), throwing a 6.1 inning gem with 10 strikeouts! Nelson Velazquez led the offense, going 3 for 4 with HR and 2 RBI. Josh Schreiber came in the 9th and picked up his second save of the year.

Next up: The Royals head home to take on the Chicago White Sox (2-4 3.0 GB AL Central) in a four game series.

*I've decided to increase the difficulty to Legend for Hitting and Pitching going forward. The first two series had way too many CPU pitches down the middle, and my pitching was a little too easy.

                            September 2-4, 2024: ST GEORGE (73-68) @ FLAGSTAFF (69-72)
                            Stadium: AutoZone Park (Capacity: 13,406)

                            September 2: Hops 1, Archers 0
                            September 3: Hops 5, Archers 4
                            September 4: Hops 5, Archers 3

Flagstaff, AZ (AP) - Flagstaff did exactly what it needed to do as the Hops returned home and swept first-place St George to move to within four games of first with 21 games left in the 2024 season, including four games next week in St George.

The Hops opened up a huge three game series with St George with a walk-off 1-0 win thanks to a Robbie Westbrook solo home run that led off the ninth. It was Westbrook's 18th on the season.

Both starters were excellent in this one. Russell Fluty went 7.2 innings, scattering six hits, striking out four and walking two. Aldo Osuna (5-7) got the win, getting the final four outs, allowing two hits. Alvin Gellman went 7.1 for St George, allowing five hits and striking out six. Spencer York (8-5) took the loss, getting the final two outs in the eighth, but then giving up the home run to Robbie Westbrook.

Ryan Kelly had a first inning single to extend his hitting streak to 18 games.

On a rainy Tuesday evening, the Hops held on for a 5-4 victory to pull to within five games of first place. Vic Miller worked a 1-2-3 ninth against the heart of the order to earn his 32nd save and keep the Hops playoff hopes alive.

Scottie Hager put the Archers up 2-0 in the second with a two-run home run off of Geraldo Rodriguez. It was his 20th on the season.

The Hops would get one back in the bottom of the second on a two-out, RBI single from Grant Mitchell.

A Jamaal McCormack RBI single in the third put the Archers back up by two. But the Hops struck for four in the bottom half to take the lead for good. Roberto Geronimo lined an RBI single that scored Ryan Kelly. Forrest Owen then lined a bases loaded single to left-center, scoring Emmitt Hampton and Roberto Geronimo to put the Hops up 4-3. David Petrovski then singled home Robbie Westbrook to make it 5-3. The inning ended on a triple play as Grant Mitchell hit a laser up the middle that Angel Montes caught, stepped on second, then fired to third to get Forrest Owen.

It would remain that way until the seventh when Sammy Gomez hit a line drive home run down the left field line off of Samuel Espinoz to cut the lead to 5-4. Pedro Macias came on to pitch the eighth and Vic Miller worked a perfect ninth to secure the win. Geraldo Rodriguez (8-9) earned the win, pitching six innings and allowing three runs on five hits, striking out four.

Tommy Franco (4-10) took the loss for St George, allowing five runs on ten hits in two plus innings of work.

Ryan Kelly left the game in the eighth with forearm tightness. It wasn't believed to be serious. He extended his hitting streak to 19 games, going 2 for 3 with a double and run scored.

In the finale, the Hops fell behind early but never panicked and rallied for a 5-3 victory to complete the sweep. Donnie Roland homered twice to lead the way as the red-hot Hops continue to stay in the playoff race.

St George would grab a 1-0 lead in the second on a Sammy Gomez sac fly that scored Harper Reyes.

Red-hot Forrest Owen would tie the game up in the bottom of the inning with a solo home run, his 23rd on the year.

IBL home run leader Jamaal McCormack would add to his total with a solo home run in the fourth to put the Archers back in front, 2-1. It was his 40th on the year. A Scottie Hager RBI single in the fifth extended the Archers lead to 3-1.

Two Flagstaff home runs in the bottm of the fifth changed the game. Donnie Roland hit a solo home run to cut the lead to 3-2. Ryan Kelly then blasted a two-out, two-run home run to put the Hops up 4-3. It was his 21st on the season and extended his hitting streak to 20 games. Donnie Roland would add another solo home run for a big insurance run in the seventh. It was his eighth on the year, as he also continues to see the ball well lately.

Oliver Benedict and Vic Miller came on in relief of Ryan Pressley and shut down the Archers to complete the sweep. Benedict worked the eighth and Miller sent down the Archers in order in the ninth for his 33rd save. Ryan Pressley (13-10) pitched seven strong innings, allowing three runs on seven hits, striking out seven and walking just one.

Taylor Austin (8-14) took the loss for St George, pitching six innings and allowing four runs on four hits, striking out eight.

The Hops will have tomorrow off before hosting Prescott (64-77) for a three game weekend series. The Archers (73-68) will head to Salt Lake (72-69) for a huge three-game weekend series as this has suddenly turned into a three team race.

Around the League: Goodyear scored a season high 17 runs as they whalloped Gilbert 17-7 on Monday evening. Right Fielder Phil Newell went 3 for 5 with a double, home run (28) and four RBIs to lead the Jack Rabbits to the victory.

Chandler's Jaevan Cooper hit a walk-off home run (17) in the bottom of the ninth as Chandler defeated Tucson 5-4. Carl Lentzkow continued his MVP season by going 3 for 4 with a home run (26) and three RBIs.

El Paso's Josh Hawk homered (33) and drove in two as the Express defeated Salt Lake 3-0 in the opener of a three game series in Utah. The Express had four pitchers combine on the five hit shutout.

Scottsdale's Jaime Pacheco (18-5) tossed a complete game, four-hit shutout, striking out eight, as the Scorpions defeated Las Vegas 5-0. Mark Justice had a two-run double that keyed a four-run second inning for the Scorpions.

San Diego's Matt Campbell (15-6) struck out a season high 15 batters, allowing one run on four hits in eight innings of work as the Seals defeated Henderson 7-1. Gregory Rice led the way offensively, going 4 for 5 with three RBIs.

San Diego's Matt Mulder hit a two-run home run (25) in the top of the ninth to power the Seals to a 5-4 comeback victory over Henderson on Wednesday. The win moved the Seals two games clear of Long Beach in the DL West.

El Paso scored four times in the top of the ninth to pull out a 5-4 victory in Salt Lake, taking two of three from the Chukars. Steve Marquez keyed the rally with a three-run home run (7) with two outs as the Express try to keep pace with Rio Rancho in the ML Central. The Chukars are just a game back of St George in the ML West.

                              Cardinals 2025 Season Outlook

The Cardinals finished Spring Training with a record of 16-14, but they got some valuable information on their roster and organizational depth.

The Cardinals will head into Opening Day with the following 26 man roster:

                              ROTATION:

                              RHP Sonny Gray
                              LHP Max Fried
                              RHP Walker Buehler
                              RHP Jack Flaherty
                              RHP Miles Mikolas

                              * All 5 starters pitched well this spring. Max Fried only pitched 6 games last year due to injury but he was strong this Spring posting an ERA under 2. Walker Buehler was solid as his final start he stretched to 5 innings was perfect. Sonny Gray will once again be the ace of the rotation and Flaherty and Mikolas each will provide a strong back end of the rotation.

The Cardinals have depth as well with Michael McGreevy, Cooper Hjerpe, and Matthew Liberatore. Don't count out Tink Hence if the Cardinals start seeking internal rotational help.

                              BULLPEN:

                              LHP Zack Thompson
                              RHP Andrew Kittridge
                              RHP Alex Reyes
                              LHP Genesis Cabrera
                              RHP Jeff Hoffman
                              RHP Jordan Hicks
                              LHP Garrett Crochet
                              RHP Ryan Helsley

                              * The bullpen was without a doubt the weakest part of the club last year. The Cardinals looked to address that this winter by acquiring Garrett Crochet and signing Jeff Hoffman. Add those two to stronger parts of the pen and on paper its a definite improvement. This team will go as far as the bullpen carries them.

Depth is available as the Cardinals added veterans to stick in AAA such as Daniel Norris, Seth Elledge, and Nick Burdi. Andre Pallante is down there as well as John King, so the Cardinals have something they didn't last year, depth. LHP prospect Byrcen Mautz pitched really well this spring adding another arm to the depth of the bullpen.

                              SS Tommy Edman
                              RF Dylan Carlson
                              LF Lars Nootbaar
                              3B Nolan Arenado
                              CA Willson Contreras
                              1B Nolan Gorman
                              DH Jordan Walker
                              2B Brendan Donovan
                              CF Victor Scott II

                              BENCH:

                              CA Pedro Pages
                              OF Jose Azocar
                              OF Mike Antico
                              IF Cesar Prieto

                              * This lineup will likely hit, hit homeruns and put up runs. Some will question the omission of players such as Ivan Herrera, Masyn Winn, and Alec Burleson, but the makeup of the roster and lineup, its better served for them to get regular at-bats at the minor league level. Victor Scott, Jose Azocar, and Mike Antico may rotate game to game, series to series as starting center fielder. All 3 showed signs of being the everyday and then not. It will be interesting to see how it shakes out after a month or so.

Depth is something the Cardinals have more of than they did last year. Besides the 3 mentioned above, the Cardinals have Jose Fermin, Oscar Mercado, amongst a host of young talent to turn to in need.

The Cardinals finished 83-79 and were a wildcard team last season. The goal is the win the Central and get to 100 wins this time around and if the pitching staff can hold up and the bats perform as expected, neither of those goals seem out of reach.

Texas Rangers update season 2 MOM. We are 140 games in to the season and currently sit at 80 and 60. We hold the number 1 Wild Card as Houston is currently coasting with a 10 game division lead. Alvaraz has 50 hrs and is the probable MVP. Seagar was hitting 320 with 37 hrs and 103 rbis but suffered a torn achilles in my last game. A devastating injury for our chance of not only making the playoffs but advancing. Soto is hitting 330 and now along with Garcia will be called upon to carry the team
