Re: MLB The Show 24 Franchise Mode Discussion Thread

    September 6-8, 2024: PRESCOTT (65-79) @ FLAGSTAFF (71-73)
    Stadium: AutoZone Park (Capacity: 13,406)

    September 6: Hot Shots 6, Hops 5
    September 7: Hops 5, Hot Shots 4
    September 8: Hops 5, Hot Shots 4

Flagstaff, AZ (AP) - Flagstaff took two of three from Prescott to move even closer to the top of the ML West as the Hops now are just three games back of first with 18 games left in the regular season. This was a tightly contested series with all three games decided by one run.

In the opener, the Hot Shots blew a five run lead, but rallied with a run in the top of the ninth to win it 6-5. Willie Reece's sac fly scored Harwill O'Kane with the winning run to end the Hops winning streak.

Prescott got on the board in the first on a Matt Olsen solo home run, his 28th on the season. They would extend that lead to 2-0 in the third on a solo home run from Willie Reece. Harwill O'Kane would make it 5-0 in the fourth with a three-run home run to left off of Alex Farmer and it looked like the Hot Shots would cruise to a victory.

But the Hops chipped away at that lead. RBI singles from David Petrovski in the sixth and Ryan Kelly in the seventh cut that lead to 5-2. Then, after getting the first two outs in the eighth, Oscar Aleman blasted a single back up the middle and Forrest Owen was hit by a pitch. Donnie Roland then hit a fastball down the middle deep into the center field grass area and the game was tied at 5-5, his ninth on the season.

But in the ninth, Aldo Osuna could not keep the Hot Shots off the board, loading the bases with no outs, he gave up a sac fly to Willie Reece to put the Hot Shots ahead 6-5.

Closer Lester Medrano came on and sent down the Hops in order to pick up his 36th save and end the Hops three game winning streak. Aldo Osuna (5-8) took the loss, allowing one run on one hits, walking two in one inning of work.

On Saturday afternoon, the Hops rallied for a 5-4 victory to even the series. Grant Mitchell's two-run home run in the eighth was the difference as the Hops moved to within four games of first place St George with the win.

The Hops went up 3-0 in the first inning on a three-run home run from Emmitt Hampton. It was his 27th home run of the season.

But Prescott picked away at that lead. Willie Reece hit a sac fly in the third to score George Collins to get Prescott on the scoreboard. A J.J. Ruffing RBI single in the fifth cut it to 3-2 and the Hot Shots tied it on a Ryan Meger sac fly later in the inning, once again scoring Collins.

The Hot Shots would take the lead off of Juro Yamaguchi in the seventh as Josh Carroll homered to left to put them up 4-3. It was Carroll's 31st on the year.

That set the stage for the Hops. In the eighth, David Benitez lined a single to center to open the inning. Grant Mitchell then hit the first pitch that he saw over the wall in left to give Flagstaff the lead at 5-4. It was Mitchell's seventh on the year.

Vic Miller came on and after giving up a lead off single to Josh Carroll, he was able to get the final three outs to earn his 34th save to keep the Hops playoff hopes alive.

Juro Yamaguchi (8-11) picked up the win, working eight innings and allowing four runs on nine hits, striking out three and walking two.

Ryan Kelly went 0 for 4 to end his 21 game hitting streak.

On Sunday afternoon, Vic Miller blew a save opportunity in the top of the ninth, but Oscar Aleman picked him up with an RBI single with no outs in the bottom half to walk it off as the Hops won a 5-4 decision.

Prescott would jump out to the lead with single runs in the third and fourth innings. Paul Knapp hit a solo home run (19) in the third and Ryan Meger homered (14) in the fourth to put the Hot Shots up 2-0.

An Emmitt Hampton solo home run got the Hops on the scoreboard in the bottom of the fourth inning. They would tie it up in the fifth on a Bradley York RBI double. Emmitt Hampton would then blast a two-run home run in the bottom of the sixth, his second of the game and 29th on the year, to put the Hops up 4-2.

But Prescott would respond. Paul Knapp hit a bloop, two-out, RBI single in the seventh to get one run back. Then in the top of the ninth, Matt Olson blasted a solo home run to leadoff the inning, off of closer Vic Miller, to tie the game at 4-4.

Flagstaff wasted no time in the bottom half. Forrest Owen singled to leadoff the inning. David Petrovski then singled to center as Owen advanced to third. With a drawn in infield, Oscar Aleman sent the first pitch back up the middle and Forrest Owen walked home with the game winning run for the Hops.

Vic Miller (4-3) blew the save but picked up the win. Russell Fluty had a solid start, going 6.2 innings, allowing three runs on eight hits, striking out six. Pedro Macias got the final out in the seventh and worked a scoreless eighth.

The Hops (71-73) now have tomorrow off before a huge six game road trip with two games in Las Vegas (75-69) and four in St George (74-70).

Around the League: St George opened up a key weekend series in Salt Lake with a 12-1 rout of the Chukars. Jamaal McCormack homered (41) and drove in three runs to help lead the Archers to the win as they move two games ahead of Salt Lake.

Rio Ranchos's Richard Gates went 4 for 5 with two home runs (13,14) and drove in five as the Owlz pounded Santa Fe 10-1 to keep their lead of 2.5 games in the ML Central over El Paso. El Paso beat Roswell 4-0 as Mark Donnellon (13-8) threw a complete game two-hitter, striking out two and walking two.

Chandler's Francisco Santiago improved to (17-3), allowing four runs on seven hits in six innings of work as the Chiefs defeated Gilbert 7-5. Three pitchers out of the bullpen combined to get the final nine outs with Jim Miller picking up his 42nd save. Carl Lentzkow went 3 for 5 and drove in two runs to lead the offense. He is now hitting .338 on the year.

Scottsdale's Jaime Pacheco (19-5) tossed eight solid innings, allowing two runs on four hits as the Scorpions destroyed Fresno 13-2. Pacheco struck out six and walked two and leads the Desert League with 19 wins and ERA at 2.45. Jaden Evans went 3 for 4 with two home runs (11,12) and drove in four runs for Scottsdale. The win snapped a four game losing streak for the Scorpions, who lead the DL Central by eight games over Surprise.

Salt Lake rallied late on Sunday afternoon to edge St George 3-1 to move into a first-place tie with the Archers atop the ML West. Darell McCloud's two run home run (23) in the seventh put the Chukars ahead. Salt Lake took two of three in the series. Both teams each have two series left with Colorado Springs which very well may determine the West winner.

Oscar Aleman has had a rough 2024, but he is heating up at the right time as the Hops celebrate a walk-off victory.

      Atlanta Braves 2024-2025 Off Season

      Brian Snitker Retires

As a lifelong Brave, Snitker after decades within the organization got his chance to be the manager and led Atlanta to two World Series titles. Snitker leaves a fan favorite and an organizational legend.

      Beginning of Offseason
The Atlanta Braves decided not to offer any qualifying offers, and only offered AJ Minter a deal during the exclusive negotiations period. This included Max Fried, Chris Martin, Adam Duvall, Travis d’Arnaud, and Charlie Morton.

      Coaching Hirings
      • Third Base Coach Andres Novoa
      • Manager Carlos Oliveros

      Arbitration Players
      • Dylan Lee
      • Huascar Ynoa
      • Luis Guillermo

      Free Agent Signings
      • C Travis d’Arnaud for 1 year, $4.5 Mill
      • RP AJ Minter for 3 years, $17.7 Mill
      • CF Victor Robles two years, $6 Mill - Robles will provide good speed and solid defense off the bench and is a good enough hitter to play consistently against lefties for Jarred Kelenic if need be.
      • SP Corbin Burnes for 4 years, $73.7 Million - Burnes has been one of the best pitchers in baseball over the past several years and was excellent again this past season, as he threw 203.2 innings with a 3.27 ERA that led to a 14-10 record for the Baltimore Orioles. Burnes slides in right behind Strider as a second ace for Atlanta.
      • SP Max Fried for 1 year, $12.5 Million. 2024 was a down year for Fried after dealing with injuries in 2023, so this works out for both sides as he gets a chance at a third title while rebuilding his brand before next offseason.
      • 1B Kyle Farmer for one year, $2 Million - Farmer can play everywhere on the infield and hit 10 homers with an OPS of .802 in 71 games in 2024.

Top Offseason Signings Around the League
      • SP Blake Snell to the Padres for 3 years, 36.3 million
      • RF Juan Soto to the Pittsburgh Pirates for 6 years, 158.4 Million
      • SP Zack Wheeler to the Kansas City Royals for 5 years, 155 Million
      • 1B Pete Alonso to Pittsburgh Pirates for 6 years, 61.8 Million
      • CP Clay Holmes to San Diego Padres for 3 years,46.8 Million
      • SS Willy Adames to Milqaulke Brewers for 3 years, 27 Million
      • 3B Alex Bregman to Houston Astros for 5 years, 66 Million
      • CP Tanner Scott to Detroit Tigers for 6 years, 72.6 million
      • LF Teoscar Hernandez to Dodgers for 2 years, 20.40 Million

      Big Offseason Trades
      • Los Angeles Dodgers Acquire RF Nolan Jones from Colorado Rockies for SP Bobby Miller and 2B Miguel Vargas
      • San Francisco Giants Acquire SS Ha-Seong Kim from San Diego Padres for RF Jorge Soler, C Patrick Bailey, and 1B Luis Toribo
      • Texas Rangers acquire Luis Castillo from Seattle Mariners for 3B Josh Jung and SP Nathan Eovaldi
      • Detroit Tigers acquire 2B Matt McLain from Cincinnati Reds for CF Riley Greene

Overall Recap Heading into 2025 Season

The offense is mostly the same, as the entire regular nine are all back, along with d’Arnaud and David Fletcher while adding Farmer and Robles to the bench. The rotation, among the best in baseball in 2024, replaces Morton with Burnes. Bringing back Fried as the third starter puts this right in line with the Dodgers as the best rotation in baseball. The bullpen will remain in tact, with Huascar Ynoa replacing Aaron Bummer (optioned to AAA) as Ynoa is out of options, so he will work in long relief. This team won the World Series and will enter the season as the favorite in 2025.

      __________

A lot of inner-division trades made for an interesting offseason. Having won the 24 World Series, and the CFB game coming, I am moving back to a play 1-QM 5 format to keep things moving as I have been a lot busier the past few weeks as well.

It seems like in almost everybody’s franchises they get Alonso and Soto lol. I think free agency is my biggest complaint (one of very, very few) on this game - money that gets doled out is largely not even remotely close to real life. I’m sure that’s hard to make work, especially with how the “salary cap” actually works in baseball.

I don't think I've ever had as difficult of a time hitting as I have during the first three innings of my two games at Washington with a 6:45 start. The sun is beating down on the grass hill with the W on it that is over the pitcher's right shoulder and it's impossible to pick up the ball out of the pitcher's hand. It's essentially a six inning game for my offense

It finally happened to me! For the first time playing the Show on the PS and now on the Xbox X. I started the game up and received "the corrupted data message"! I kept calm, but among my findings my saved Franchise, Slider's and Upload Cloud were still there. The only was lost was my user settings. I am 30 games into my Braves franchise (17-13). So, this time I took pictures of my user setting with my cellphone because it was a challenge to recalled what I was using.

After dropping the rubber match in a three game series in Washington, The Mets have designated Sean Manaea for assignment. In 12 starts with The Mets he posted a 2-5 record with a 6.82 ERA. If unclaimed The Mets will owe him the remainder of this year's salary plus $14 million for next year. David Peterson will assume Manaea's spot in the rotation and Sean Reid-Foley will be called up from AAA to work from the bullpen.

Since going 3-7 in their last ten games The Mets now trail The Braves by a half game as they open a two game series in London vs The Phillies

                        Mets-1

Cubbies enter may as top team in MLB

It has been nearly a perfect start to 2024 for the Chicago Cubs. Two games into may and they sit at an MLB best 23-9. With that record, it may be surprising to note that they have lost won series (2 of 3 to Seattle 04/12-04/13).

The final series to end April and start May was a 3-1 victory of the New York Mets. They aren't running away with the division however as the Cardinals are tied for the second best record at 21-10.

The Cubs top hitters have been Seiya Suzuki (11 HR), Cody Bellinger (.397 AVG) and Dansby Swanson (33 RBI). Bellinger also won the NL player of the month (96 AB .448 AVG 6 HR 16 RBI). Jose Altuve won the award for the American League while Zack Wheeler and Chris Martin won pitcher of the month honors and Evan Carter (TEX) and Jackson Merrill (SDP) won the rookie of the month awards.

The Cubs and Cardinals haven't faced each other thus far this year and they wont until the end May. The Cubs do however start their season series off with Milwaukee (17-14/4th NL Central) now as they return home for a three game set.

                          September 10-11, 2024: FLAGSTAFF (73-73) @ LAS VEGAS (75-71)
                          Stadium: MGM Park (Capacity: 30,381)

                          September 10: Hops 8, Nuggets 5
                          September 11: Hops 4, Nuggets 1

Las Vegas, NV (AP) - The red-hot Flagstaff Hops went on the road and swept Las Vegas in a short two game series in their first ever visit to MGM Park on the strip.

In Tuesday evening's opener, the Hops hit five home runs in an 8-5 victory over the Nuggets. Donnie Roland went 3 for 4 with a home run and two RBIs as the red-hot Hops moved even closer to a playoff spot.

Las Vegas would grab a 2-0 lead in the first inning as Tom Markley hit a solo home run to left to leadoff the bottom of the first and Enrique Lima singled to left, driving home Orlando McIntyre to put the Nuggets up early.

Roberto Geronimo would get the Hops on the board in the second with a solo home run to left, his 29th on the year.

Flagstaff would take the lead in the third on a Ryan Kelly two-run home run to left, his 22nd on the year, and the Hops led 3-2. Donnie Roland would add a two-run home run in the fourth to make it 5-2, his 10th on the season. Forrest Owen would get in on the act in the fifth with a solo home run deep into the left field seats to make it 6-2, his career high 24th.

The Nuggets would try clawing their way back into it in the seventh as Tom Markley hit his second home run of the game, a two-run shot into the left field fountains, off of reliever Pedro Macias. It was his 22nd on the year. Orlando McIntyre followed that with a solo home run to cut the Hops lead to 6-5. Oliver Benedict would come on to get the final two outs in the seventh.

A Dave Matlock two-out RBI single in the eighth gave the Hops a little insurance. Robbie Westbrook would blast a solo home run to right in the ninth, his 19th, to make it 8-5.

Vic Miller came on and sent down the Nuggets in order in the ninth to pick up his 35th save. Geraldo Rodriguez (9-9) went six innings and picked up the win, allowing two runs on eight hits, striking out two.

Wednesday afternoon, the Hops hit three home runs and got a complete game from Ryan Pressley as they cruised to a 4-1 victory to complete the sweep and get back to .500 for the first time since April 17th.

Ryan Kelly led off the game with a solo home run to left. It was his 23rd on the season.

Frank Green would tie it up in the bottom half as he hit a solo home run to right off of Ryan Pressley, his 25th on the season.

But back-to-back solo home runs from Thomas Sanders (8) and David Petrovski (17) in the fourth put the Hops ahead for good. Thomas Sanders would add an RBI double in the fifth that scored Donnie Roland to make it 4-1. Sanders was the ML Rookie of the Month in July and August, but has struggled lately so today was a great sign for the 22-year-old rookie.

That was all that Ryan Pressley would need and he went the distance, throwing an even 100 pitches to pick up the win to improve to (14-10). He allowed just four hits and one run, striking out four and not issuing a walk.

Ricky Salinas (9-11) took the loss for the Nuggets. He only lasted 4.2 innings, allowing four runs on five hits (three home runs), striking out five.

The Hops are (28-10) since July 29th when they were a season high 18 games below .500. They now are just two games out of first with 16 games left in the season with seven games left against St George and Salt Lake, the two teams ahead of them in the ML West.

Flagstaff (73-73) will now head to St George for a four game weekend series against the second place Archers (75-72). Salt Lake (75-71) is in Albuquerque for a three game weekend series against the Mariachis (72-74). The Hops are also now just five games back of San Antonio for the second Wild Card spot.

Around the League: Chandler's Carl Lentzkow went 4 for 5 with a double, home run and three RBIs as the Chiefs blew out Mesa 15-1 to lower it's magic number to just four games to clinch the DL Eaat. Lentzkow leads the DL in batting average at .342 with 27 home runs (12th) and 108 RBIs (2nd).

Scottsdale scored three times in the bottom of the eighth inning to rally for an 8-7 victory over Salt Lake on Tuesday evening. Tanner Bell went 3 for 4 with two doubles, a home run (15) and two RBIs to lead the first place Scorpions.

El Paso got a three-run home run from Casey Moore (14) and a two-run blast from Eloy Torrez (16) as they took care of Rio Rancho 5-3 to take the opener of a huge two game series and move to within a half game of the Owlz for first in the ML Central.

Salt Lake got a solo home run from Derek Hills in the top of the eighth inning on Wednesday afternoon to earn a split of a two game series in Scottsdale with a 1-0 victory. Thor Odinson worked one inning of relief to pick up the win, improving to (7-12).

Rio Rancho's Rollie Flingers improved to (20-5) as the Owlz beat El Paso 3-2. Flingers allowed two runs on six hits in 6.2 innings, striking out nine as he outdueled Bruno de la Cruz (15-9) in a battle of two ML Cy Young candidates.

Amarillo got a complete game shutout from Andres Montoya (10-8) as they defeated San Antonio 6-0. The Honey Hunters, well out of any playoff race, are (15-7) in their last 22 games including (4-1) against first-place San Antonio as they look to play a role in who wins the ML East.

The Twins expected to compete coming into the 2024 season, but then the injury bug bit and caused some concern. With heralded young player Brooks Lee on the I.L with a foot injury for the first 2 months and sensational closer Jhoan Duran also out for 2 months with an arm injury, the Twins looked to stay afloat in a central that saw unfamiliar spending from the Royals and a Tigers team that believes it can compete.
Minnesota started the season slowly with a series loss to Kansas City, a split with Milwaukee in a 2 game set and a sweep by Cleveland to begin the season 2-6. Then in a peculiar series they took 2 of 3 from World Series favorite Los Angeles Dodgers before losing the next series to Detroit and red hot Spencer Torkelson. He went yard twice in the series and batted 7-12 in the series with 6 RBI.
The Twins were a paultry 4-10 in the young season before the script flipped. they tallied 13 wins in their next 16 and finished the month on a 6 game winning streak to sit at 17-13. Good for 2nd in the division, .5 game behind Kansas City (18-13). The mains tory of the month was the pitching looks solid, relievers look solid but the lineup struggles to find its bats. Minnesota has been hit by the injury bug throughout this month as Alex Kiriloff was day to day (leg), Matt Walner out a month (foot) and Trevor Larnach 2 months (Hamstring). This got Austin Martin, The Twins 2020 1st round pick a callup for his 1st major league stint. He proceeded to go 6 for 15 with a .400 avg and 3 RBI.
