Cardinals place Tommy Edman on 10 Day IL, activate Willson Contreras

The Cardinals injury woes continue as they have placed Tommy Edman on the 10 Day IL with a MCL Sprain. Edman suffered the injury in Friday nights game against the Phillies.

The Cardinals have recalled IF Casey Schmitt from Memphis to take the vacant roster spot.

On the same day the Cardinals have activated C Willson Contreras. Contreras has missed over a month and will give the Cardinals some pop back in their lineup. Pedro Pages was optioned to Single A ball.

      Texas Rangers Season 4 MOM:

We have reached the 100 game mark and just a little past the All Star Break. We are 62 and 38 and have a 5 game lead over the Astros. My All Stars were Bieber who has 15 wins and is still 1st in Cy Young Voting, Wyatt Langford making his 1st All Star Team and Corey Seagar who is leading the American league with a 359 avg and 22 hrs. He sits 3rd in mvp voting. The only person of note on the il is Carter and he will be back in about 3 weeks. As we approach the trade deadline our goal will be to get help in the bullpen. I've put my guys on the trade block but as of yet have not had any takers. I'm hoping someone will offer something for Semien. He's making almost 30 million and is only hitting 225. Plus he's 36 and his rating has declined to a 77

The Cardinals sweep the Yankees and the Cubs took 2 of 3 from Washington, so as we embark on September, the Cardinals have a 1 game lead over the Cubs with 25 games left and a 6 game lead over the Brewers.

Up next the Cardinals head to Milwaukee and the Cubs take on the Pirates.

          2024 Chicago Cubs 07/02-07/07

Overall Record:60-32 (1st NL Central/7.0 over St. Louis)

          Game Results

          Game 1
          Cubs-6
          Phillies-5

          Game 2
          Phillies-8
          Cubs-4

          Game 3
          Phillies-8
          Cubs-2

          Game 1
          Angels-6
          Cubs-5

          Game 2
          Cubs-12
          Angels-0

          Game 3
          Cubs-4
          Angels-2

Cubs suffer first three game losing steak of 2024

The Cubs suffered their first three game losing streak of 2024 as they lost their last two games against the Phillies and their first against the Angels.

That streak was broken up with a 12-0 shutout of the Angels in their second game of that series. That game was also the Cubbies best overall game of the year.

Justin Steele started the game for Chicago and ended it with his third complete game of 2024. He is still the only Cubs with more than one complete game this season. Not only did he go the complete game without allowing a run, he also allowed just three hits and struck out nine. The win was his ninth on the season as he currently sits at 9-3 through 19 starts.

The offense was just as good as they tallied 17 hits four homeruns and three doubles. The homers came off the bats of Patrick Wisdom (#37), Dansby Swanson (#18), Ian Happ (#14) and Christopher Morel (#17). Seiya Suzuki, Cody Bellinger and Wisdom collected the doubles. Wisdom also ended up with 5 RBI's on the game and currently leads the MLB in that category with 86 with the next closest batter being Austin Riley of the Braves with his 79.

Wisdom also hit another homerun in the Cubs 4-2 game three victory and now sits at 38 on the year. With six more games before the All Star Break, Wisdom has a real shot to surpass Barry Bonds record of 39 homeruns before the break although, I'm sure Bonds' break didn't come 99 games into the regular season.

The Cubs will now hit the road as they travel to Baltimore to face off with the Orioles (44-47/5th AL East).

Final weekend will provide high drama for NL Central and NL Wildcard races

The final weekend of the 2025 regular season is upon us and there is a lot of baseball to pay attention to, well just the NL Central and NL Wildcard races.

The American League field is set. The only thing to determine are the order of the 3 wildcard teams. The Rangers who earned their first 100 win season in franchise history hold the best record in the American League. The Rays won the East and the Twins dominated the Central. The Blue Jays, Mariners, and Astros will be the 3 wildcard teams.

The National League isn't set. The Phillies will be the #1 overall seed as they have the best record. The Dodgers won the West and will be the #2 seed. The NL Central and Wildcard are very much up for grabs. The only other team locked in is the Braves as the top wildcard team.

The NL Central has 4 teams in position to win the division, the only team out is the Pirates. The Cardinals currently lead the division by a single game over the Brewers and the Cubs. The Reds are 2 games out of first. In the wildcard race, the Diamondbacks, Brewers, and Cubs are share similar records (87-72) while the Reds are just a game off of that at 86-22. These 4 teams, along with the Cardinals are fighting for the final 3 spots in the playoff field, although the D'Backs can only claim a wildcard spot.

The Cardinals and Cubs play a 3 game series in St.Louis to close out the regular season and therefore provide the biggest drama of much see baseball this weekend. Two rivals separated by a single game for the divisional crown and a wildcard spot look to eliminate the other from the playoffs. The Brewers are in Boston facing the Red Sox and the Reds are at home, hosting the Marlins. The Diamondbacks host the Rockies.

Its going to be entertaining, dramatic, and levy a great amount of pressure on these 5 clubs as the 2025 comes to a close this weekend.
I can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.

              Cardinals win the NL Central

The Cardinals are your 2025 National League Central Division Champions. The Cardinals finished the season by taking two games of a 3 game series with the Cubs in St.Louis to win the division and will play October baseball again this season.

The Cardinals won on Friday and then clinched the division on Saturday behind a masterful pitching performance from Sonny Gray. Sunday the Cardinals used the bullpen as they looked to set up their pitching rotation for the Wildcard Series. The Cardinals will face the Reds in a best of three wildcard series in St.Louis.

It was a roller coaster of a season, but after being the 3rd wildcard last year and winning just 83 games, to winning 90 games and the division is a great accomplishment and hopefully the Cardinals can advance past the NLDS this year.

                Texas Rangers Season 4 MOM

We had quite a scare since my last update as we saw a 5 game lead dissappear following a 8 game losing streak at the end of June. We however have since followed that up with a 6 game win streak and after Houston tied the division we are now up by 3 games once again. Seagar and Langford continue to pace the offense. Shane Bieber has 16 wins and Barry Marmion has 13. We did trade Semien as the trade block saw Phil Bickford come back. Donavan was also traded for Lou Campunsano. Will update at 140 games

                  2024 Chicago Cubs 07/09-07/11

Overall Record:61-34 (1st NL Central/5.5 over St. Louis)

                  Game Results

                  Game 1
                  Orioles-7
                  Cubs-1

                  Game 2
                  Orioles-4
                  Cubs-2

                  Game 3
                  Cubs-16
                  Orioles-0

Cubs avoid first sweep with 20 hit game three

The Cubs were in danger of being swept for the first time in 2024 after losing the first two games of their series in Baltimore. Game one was dominated by the Orioles as they won 7-1. Patrick Wisdom accounted for the Cubs only run with yet another homerun. That homerun gives him 39 and has tied him with Barry Bonds for most homeruns before the all-star break.

Game two saw the Cubs take a 2-1 lead into the ninth but Adbert Alzolay would blow yet another save as he gave up a walkoff homerun to Gunnar Henderson, his second of the game and 13th on the year.

Shota Imanga started game three for the Cubbies and was excellant like he has been all season long. He pitched eight full as he allowed five hits and no runs. He did only strike out 3. Keegan Thompson pitched the ninth and gave up one hit but struck out three of his own in that inning to give the Cubs the win that avoided the sweep.

Offensively, the Cubs exploded for 20 hits and scored in innings 3 through eight enroute to a season best 16 runs. Everyone on the team contributed and had at least one hit. Seiya Suzuki and Yan Gomes were just a triple away from the cycle and Christopher Morel had four hits of his own.

The Cubs will now head to St. Louis for their finals series before the All-Star Break. The Cardinals arent allowing Chicago to pull away as they are currently on a seven game win streak and sit just 5.5 behind the Cubs in the Central division. No matter what, the Cubs will go into the break atop of the division but they would love to increase their lead.

Probable pitchers for game one are Justin Steele (9-3, 2.62 ERA) for the Cubs and Sonny Gray (8-3 2.90 ERA) for the Cardinals.

                  Edit

The Orioles made a trade in the middle of our series to acquire Jake Burger from the Marlins.

They sent Miami Jackson Holliday, Ryan Mountcastle and Jorge Mateo....and I thought the Astros overpaid (IRL). Geesh....

Burger played in game three and hit the ball hard but went 0-3.

The Nationals finished September with a record of 95-68 and secured the top wild card spot about halfway through the month. The last week of the season was spent getting ready for the Postseason, and Davey Martinez made sure every player and pitcher saw enough action to keep them loose. The Nationals did make one move, sending Jeremy de la Rosa back to AAA and recalling Joey Meneses, who just couldn't find a spot with the MLB club this year. Meneses' bat, as well as his experience from the 2023 playoffs, should be a nice addition.

The Postseason looks as follows (remember, I'm playing on 22)

2025 National League Wild Card Game

San Diego Padres vs Washington Nationals

                      Corbin Burnes vs MacKenzie Gore

It was an electric atmosphere in DC as both teams sent their aces to the mound to do battle. San Diego struck first, scoring two runs in the third as MacKenzie Gore did not look as sharp as he did during the regular season, where he won 17 games. Gore would go just four innings, giving up two runs on six hits, walking one and striking out one. He would not figure in the decision though, as Washington fought back in the bottom of the fourth with back to back to back doubles from Brandon Drury, Nolan Jones, and Luis Garcia.

Justin Dunn would take over for Washington in the fifth. He would run into trouble in the sixth, loading the bases with no outs; only to get out of it with back to back infield flies and a fly out to right to end the threat. San Diego would break through off of Zach Warren in the seventh when constant nemesis Brian Anderson drove in Victor Reyes. Anderson constantly caused problems for Washington during his tenure in Miami, and the trouble continues despite being sent to the West Coast.

Washington would eventually chase Corbin Burnes from the game after six innings, with the ace giving up two runs on eight hits, no walks and just two strikeouts. San Diego sent out former closer David Bednar in the eighth, only to have him give up a leadoff walk to Brandon Nimmo followed by a two run home run from Andrew Vaughn. With the crowd in an absolute frenzy, Davey Martinez made the phone call to get Camilo Doval warmed up for the save. But Washington would add an insurance run when Keibert Ruiz hit a solo shot off of Stephen Wilslon, who was attempting damage control after Bednar's collapse.

The ninth inning saw little drama, as Doval would enter and depite giving up a base hit to Manny Machado, get out of the inning on just eight pitches, sending the Nationals on to the NLDS where they will face the Los Angeles Dodgers, a team they went 1-5 against in the regular season; although all six games were played in mid-April.

Cardinals sweep Reds in Wildcard Series

The Cardinals season will continue as they swept the Reds in the National League Wildcard Series. The Cardinals won game 1 fairly easily with a 3-0 win behind a dominant performance from Max Fried. Game 2 was dramatic going to 10 innings before the Cardinals walked-off the Reds and walked into a meeting with the Dodgers in the NLDS.

The Cardinals lost in the NLDS last year to the Phillies, so they are hoping for better results this go around.

                        Other Wildcard Series outcomes:

                        Diamondbacks defeated the Braves 2-1
                        Blue Jays defeated Mariners 2-0
                        Astros defeated Twins 2-1

Cardinals and Dodgers going to decisive Game 5 in NLDS

The Cardinals and Dodgers will be playing a Game 5 Thursday night in Los Angeles to determine the winner of their NLDS matchup. The winner will take on the Phillies who beat the Diamondbacks in 4 games.

The Dodgers won Game 1 behind a complete game shutout by Shohei Ohtani. The Dodgers put up only 3 runs, but that would be all they needed to get the win.

Game 2 was won by Cardinals 9-6 as they slugged their way past Blake Snell and the Dodgers bullpen. Lucas Giolito lasted an inning and Jack Flaherty got thru 4 as the Cards pieced their way to a victory.

Game 3 was the Dodgers again as Shane Bieber shutdown the Cardinals bats until Lars Nootbaar solo homerun in the 9th. The Dodgers would win thanks in part to 3 homeruns in route to a 6-1 victory.

Game 4 saw the Cardinals fight off elimination as they pulled out the 7-5 win. Everytime the Dodgers would take a lead the Cardinals would fight back to take it back or at least tie the game. The Cardinals went ahead for good in the 8th going up 7-4 thanks to Brendan Donovan's 2 run double. The Dodgers got one in the 9th when Max Muncy homered off of Ryan Helsley to make it 7-5, but that would be all they would get.

Game 5 will see Walker Buehler take the mound for the Cardinals. He lost Game 1. The Dodgers haven't announced a starter but its likely either Yoshibu Yamamoto or Shohei Ohtani.

The Cardinals get their 2nd series sweep in a row as they beat the Brewers in Milwaukee.

With 22 games left, the Cardinals are now 3 games up on the Cubs and 9 games up on the Brewers.

Cardinals head home to take on Seattle in a 3 game series and will have Sonny Gray on the bump in Game 1.
