        Detroit Tigers 2024 Season

        Rangers (9-7) @ Tigers (7-8)

W: 6-1 Torkelson 1st HR of season. Flaherty ERA 0.66
        L: 3-2 Tigers strand 5 runners, 3 of them at 3B.
        Tigers (8-11) @ Twins (7-11)
W: 1-0 Reese Olson 4 hit shutout. Baez steals 4 bags
        L: 7-6 Lange blows save in 10th
        W: 8-4 Colt Keith 1 HR, 3 RBI
        Tigers (10-12) @ Rays (12-11)
L: 7-2 Miguel Diaz implodes in relief. Giving up 3 in 2/3rds of an inning
        L: 4-3 HR's by Vierling & Meadows not enough

L: 6-1 Shelby Miller implodes, allows 5 runs in 10th inning
L: 1-0 Sonny Gray pitches gem, complete game shutout
        Tigers Bats Continue to Struggle

Detroit ends April 13-18, 3.5 gea back of the wild card. Guardians continue to win, taking a commanding lead in the Division only losing 6 games all month. Skubal and Flaherty are doing their part with a 2.98 and 1.21 ERA respectively. But anyone not names Riley Greene can't seem to find their bats. Javier Baez and Torkelson are the 2 that are sinking the team the most with averages below .200 each and even lower with runners in scoring position. The Tigers have 21 HR"s on the season, 27th best in baseball. They can get a batter or two on base, but rarely bring them in as the team as a whole struggles to collect hits together. They're always sprinkled throughout a game.
Reports are in that Brandon Belt and C.J Cron have both been brought in to talk numbers and fit within the organization, which could be bad news for young Specer Torkelson, but the thought of him being sent down seems plausible as he continues to slide. Baez would too if not for The exuberant contract and essential admission of failure by the front office.

The Braves are 1 game from their 2nd championship in 3 years. Game 6 was all about Nestor Cortes. He left with a 6 1 lead with 2 outs left in the 9th. We came back and scored 3 more runs off their pen but fell short 6 4. After a day off the series heads back to Texas where the Rangers Season will be in the capable hands of 3 time Cy Young winner Shane Bieber

Cubs lose first game in August

The Chicago Cubs beat the Cleveland Guardians, 2-1 in their three game series. However, their perfect August record and their 10 game winning streak came to an end in the first game of the series.

Despite gathering a decent amount of hits against Shane Bieber, the Cubs could not get many runs across. They did eventually score off of him in the eighth inning, a Nico Hoerner rbi single that knocked in Ian Happ who had doubled earlier in the inning. Shota Imanaga was good for the Cubs but did allow the two runs that eventually ended up being enough for Cleveland after Emmanuel Clase collected his 29th save of the season while he pitched an inning and a third while he gave up just one hit and struck out two.

The Cubs the went on to take the next two games (6-2 and 8-5). Game three started the best for the Cubs as they got out to a 7-0 lead that included a six run third and a grand slam by Yan Gomes.

The bullpen eventually held off Cleveland and Carl Edwards JR struck out the side in the 9th to remain perfect in his save attempts on the year (8-8).

The Cubs will now have a day off before they return home to face the Blue Jays (60-62/3rd AL East).

              Cardinals sweep Marlins in Miami

The Cardinals (6-0) completed their second consecutive sweep to start the 2026 season as they swept the Marlins in Miami to begin the week.

The bats came to life for the Cardinals as they scored 22 runs over the 3 game series, although the starting pitching of Jack Flaherty and Matthew Liberatore yielding a combined 10 runs themselves. Thankfully the bats and bullpen were able to overcome the rough starts and secure wins in the first two games of the series.

On Wednesday, Sonny Gray did what Sonny Gray does and went 7 innings giving up no runs on just 3 hits with 11 strikeouts.

Dylan Carlson and Lars Nootbaar are swinging extremely hot bats to start the season with both in the Top 5 in the National League in batting average and Carlson leads the NL with 10 RBIs thus far this season.

The Cardinals are off on Thursday as they head home to face the Braves in a 3 game weekend series.

Cardinals swept by Braves in St.Louis

The Cardinals (6-3) were involved in another series that resulted in a sweep, only this time they were on the wrong end of it.

The Cardinals were swept by the Braves in a 3 game series in St.Louis over the weekend, as the Braves have now won 7 straight. The Cardinals were outscored in the series 25-4 as the bats went quiet and pitching just struggled.

Max Fried got the ball Friday night and had the best outing of the 3 starters, lasting 6 innings giving up 3 runs on 8 hits. He left the game with the Cardinals trailing just 3-1, but the bullpen allowed the lead to balloon to 7-1 after the top of the 7th inning. The bats would never cut into the lead and the Braves added a run in the 9th for the 8-1 win.

Walker Buehler started Saturday and never got out of the first inning yielding 5 runs on 6 hits (3 homeruns) and recorded just one out before being pulled. The Braves would lead 5-2 heading into the 8th when they exploded on Jonathan Loaisaga to the tune of 4 runs making it 9-2, which would be the final score.

Jack Flaherty at least went 5 innings, but only because he was sort of forced as Flaherty struggled all day Sunday to locate pitches. He would surrender just 3 runs although he walked 6. The bullpen would give up 5 more runs as the Cardinals lost 8-1 in the series finale.

The Cardinals will welcome the Cubs to town starting Monday for a 4 game series.

Cardinals and Cubs split 4 game series

The Cardinals (8-5) split their 4 game series with the Cubs in Busch Stadium over the weekend. For the first time in the young 2026 season the Cardinals didn't have a series end in a sweep.

The Cardinals won the first two games of the series which was a nice bounce back after having just been swept by the Braves, but lost the final two putting them back on a losing streak.

Matthew Liberatore who started Thursday will be out for about 2 weeks with a shoulder issue. Liberatore only got thru an inning before being lifted, so the bullpen was depleted for a majority of the series.

Dylan Carlson cooled off gaining just 1 hit this series but Jordan Walker swung a good bat as did Nolan Arenado. Alec Burleson continues to be a concern.

The Cardinals will make short trip to Kansas City for a 3 game weekend series with the Royals.

The Atlanta Braves are the 2027 World Champs. I just couldn't get anything going. The high pit h count sent Bieber out in the 6th down 3 to 2. I've been waiting to hear the results... disappointing but you won the AL and the Braves are no easy team. They just beat the Reds today in my franchise, 26-2, too bad the Phillies are 40 games over .500.

The playoffs in the Show are so intense, it's like no sports game I've ever played when it comes to the postseason.

Cardinals swept by Royals to extend losing streak to 5 games

The Cardinals (8-8) were swept by the Royals in Kansas City over the weekend and have seen their losing streak extend to 5 games. After starting the season 6-0, the Cardinals have lost 8 of their last 10 games and are quickly losing ground to a red-hot Reds team.

Nothing went right in this series for the Cardinals as they didn't hit well nor did they pitch well enough to keep the scores low enough to help a struggling offense.

Nolan Gorman continues to struggle at the dish as he went 0 for 13 in the series and is barely hitting over .100 early on this year. This is even more concerning considering he hit just above .200 this spring.

The re-tooled bullpen has been anything but reliable throughout the first 3 weeks of the season.

The Cardinals will head further West as they travel to Los Angeles for a 3 game series with the Angels to kick off the week.

Hey dude, from my experience playing this game along with other sports games over the years, all things being equal as far as the "proper" game settings for each game, The Show is the hardest one to win it all. That's part of what makes it great.

The NL is pretty awful. My Braves and the Dodgers have been feasting on the other NL teams. We've got six games coming up with the Orioles and Rays, curious to see how we fare there.

And for all my consternation about Olson homering too much, Yordan Alvarez now leads the home run chase, 30-26.
