Cardinals and Red Sox Agree to Trade of Tyler O'Neill

The Cardinals and Red Sox have struck a deal again just a day before their 3 game series in St.Louis.

    Cardinals Receive:

    OF Tyler O'Neill

    Red Sox Receive:

    SS Michael Curialle (#19 prospect)
    RHP Inohan Panigua

The Cardinals are frustrated with how the season is playing out and also frustrated with outfield defense, and production at the dish. Tyler O'Neill and the Cardinals (mainly manager Oliver Marmol) didn't have the best of 2023's, but at this point the front office is trying desperately to find a group that will produce wins on the diamond and think that O'Neill can help accomplish that goal.

O'Neill is hitting .257 with 8 homeruns and 23 RBIs with the Red Sox, who are in last place themselves, though they are 13 games out of first and 8 games out of the wildcard.

O'Neill will likely go to left field with either Nootbaar or Carlson in right field with the other as the DH for the time being.
I can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.

I miss the old days of Operation Sports :(

Atlanta Bounces Back, Sweep Struggling San Diego

      May 17-20, 2024

The Braves lost their first series in a month against the Chicago Cubs, but made up for it in a big way by sweeping a San Diego Padres team that is ultra talented but struggling. Things started off with a 3-2 win in game one, as the Braves came back from an early 2-0 deficit with Chris Sale on the mound. Sale was solid, throwing 6.1 IP with two strikeouts, giving up a homer to Manny Machado while largely spreading out the other six hits. Atlanta tied the game in the third with a Jared Kelenic solo shot and Ronald Acuna SAC fly to knock in Orlando Arcia. Sean Murphy gave them the lead in the fourth with a solo shot, and Sale and the bullpen trio of Joe Jiminez, AJ Minter, and Raisel Iglesias held it down. Iglesias did kind of struggle, but got it done.

Game two was a much cleaner affair, as Michael Harris, Ozzie Albies, and Marcell Ozuna all hit homers, while Charlie Morton and Pierce Johnson pitched a shutout, and the Braves won 6-0.

The third matchup was largely the same. Austin Riley hit his 23rd homer of the season, a two-run shot, in the first inning. Arcia joined him with another two-run shot in the fifth, while Acuna and Ozuna knocked in runs as well. Bryce Elder was rock solid on the mound, giving up two earned runs in six innings. Reynaldo Lopez, Dylan Lee, and Tyler Matzek held the Padres scoreless in a 6-2 win.

The final game was a tight, 4-3 win in extras with Spencer Strider on the mound. Strider struck out seven in five innings, giving up a homer to Machado in the fifth inning. Acuna hit a homer in the first inning, Riley plated Acuna in the third and Matt Olson knocked Acuna in the fourth as well. The game was won in the 11th inning, when Acuna produced a SAC fly to score Albies. Acuna finished with three runs scored.

The Braves are at 31-15 and are now up to a seven-game lead over the Philadelphia Phillies in the NL East. Up next, the Braves get a chance to get revenge over the Chicago Cubs in a three game set in the Windy City.

CINCINNATI REDS AT PHILADELPHIA PHILLIES - GAME 2

On the road in Philly, the Reds look to keep their undefeated streak alive. The Reds are 4-0 on the young season and are taking on the Phillies 0-4. SP Graham Ashcraft for the Reds and SP Christopher Sanchez for the Phillies, each getting their first starts of the year. Yay... the Reds are facing another lefty, the fourth in a row.

Sanchez manages to sit down the Reds first six batters to start of the game and in the bottom of the second, Bryce Harper hits a solo home run. Phillies lead 1-0.

But in the top of the third with 1 outs, 2B Jonathan India gets a single. Next batter LF Stuart Fairchild grounds into fielders choice, at least Fairchild's speed keeps it from being a inning ending double play. CF Elly De La Cruz draws a walk and Fairchild advance to second. Then RF T.J. Friedl hits a weak chopper to third and beats out the throw to first, bases loaded. SS Matt McLain laces one just over the third base and past a diving 3B Alec Brohm and two runs score, Reds 2 Phillies 1. 1B Spencer Steer ends the inning with a flyball.

In the top of the 4th Reds 3B Nick Senzel hits a ball to medium left field, charging and diving LF Brandon Marsh misses the catch the ball gets by and Senzel gets a double. C Tucker Barnhart his one up the middle, Senzel barely beats the ball to home plate. Reds up 3-1.

To the bottom of the 6th, Reds up 3-1, the Phillies score two more against Ashcraft and tied it 3-3. We all know Ashcraft is done after 6 innings and maybe in line for a no decision. But Reds hitters have different plans, with 2 outs, 2 runners on first and third, RF T.J. Friedl JACKS one out to right field and over the wall, three runs score. Reds lead 6-3. Coming into tonight came Friedl was only batting .200. He made up this with a 3 for 4 night, with a single, a double and a home run, just a triple shy of the cycle. Don't forget to mention 3 RBIs.

RP Buck Farmer and RP Tejay Antone would each pitcher pitching scoreless innings in the 7th and 8th respectfully. Skipper Aaron Boone would have a decision to make in the 9th, wether to bring out his CP Alexis Diaz to face the first two batters batting lefty and the possible 4th batter also being a lefty, or bring in lefty Set Up RP Sam Moll. Boone decided to play the percentages and went lefty vs lefty. The first batter Moll would face was Bryce Harper who already homered. Bryce decided to add to his home run total with his second of the night. Score now Phillies 4 Reds 6, still no outs. Not being able to bring in Alexis Diaz yet, Moll stayed in the game. With 2 of the three batters being lefties, the odds were still in Moll's favor, and the odds worked out. Moll retired the side and got the Save and the Reds fifth win in a row to start off the year

Now one turn through the rotation SP Andrew Abbott will get his second start in Game 3 vs the Phillies. Can they go 6-0? Two straight sweeps of their opponents. Well it going to get a little harder as baseballs commissioner is going to require the Reds to bump up the difficulty. Even though Dynamic mode has put me on All Star for batting and pitching, I will either take it up a notch or down with 5 wins in a row or 5 losses. So H.O.F. it is... hopefully the Reds don't go into a nose dive.

Re: MLB The Show 24 Franchise Mode Discussion Thread

During a post game press conference with Assistant GM and Media Relations Guru Sean Casey (who in real life will be throwing out the ceremonial first pitch tomorrow at the Reds opener) addressed questions about the Reds good start to the season.

Even with a such a strong start, the Reds players do not lead in statical category. CF Elly De La Cruz is second in steals with 6 behind the Padres SS Ha-Seong Kim with 7. A bit of a head scratcher.

As a team they do lead all of MLB with 17 steals, but as Sean pointed out, that has a lot to do with the Reds seeing WAS C Keibert Ruiz in the opening series and Sean claiming even now, he could steal second and third versus Ruiz in the same attempt. We aren't sure about that Sean, maybe he meant Elly.

And only CF Elly DE La Cruz leading at any position in the All Star voting.

And with a harder schedule (difficulty level increase) coming up we are not sure if there will be any change.

Stay tuned to find out...Same REDS time, same REDS channel. And of course if you are a Reds minor league Louisville fan you now how that saying goes...😜.

Re: MLB The Show 24 Franchise Mode Discussion Thread

The red hot Mets cooled off a bit in Atlanta as they went 2-2 in a four game series. They were in every game but the bullpen couldn't get the job done. Game 1 the Mets clobbered the Braves 11-3. Game two Kodai Senga outlasted Spencer strider and left after 7 innings with a 2-1 lead but Brooks Raley coughed up the lead in the 8th. The 2-2 game went to extra innings and the Mets knocked in the free runner to take a 3-2 lead. In the bottom of the 10th Edwin Diaz struck out the first batter so it looked like the Mets would wiggled out of this with a win, but an Ozzie Albies single tied the game and Michael Harris walked it off with a two run HR. The Mets won a close one 4-3 in game 3 and in the finale every time the Braves took the lead the Mets would claw back and tie it until the bullpen surrendered the lead for good in the 7th inning and the Braves went on to win 8-5.

So far my two biggest surprises are Harrison Bader looking like prime Mike Trout through 13 games and Brandon Nimmo leading the team with 16 RBIs despite hitting leadoff every day

              CINCINNATI REDS AT PHILADELPHIA PHILLIES
              GAME 3

The Reds were looking for their sixth win in a row and their second series sweep at the Phillies. The Phillies were 0-5 and looking for their first win. The Reds SP Andrew Abbott (1-0) going against SP Zack Wheeler (0-1).

The Reds started off scoring first in the top of the first with SS Matt McLain doubling in CF Elly De La Cruz. But that would soon be countered by the Phillies scoring a run in the bottom of the first. The scoring would not stop there though, with Philly runners on first and second, RF Nick Castellanos would ground to 2B Jonathan India who overthrew SS McLain covering second and negating a most likely inning ending double play. And of course as almost all errors lead to, two more runs would score in the inning. Phillies lead 3-1.

Seemed like things were going to settle down, but bottom of the third with two more Philly runners on base, a misplayed routine hit to left field, LF Will Benson had a ball hit his wrist or forearm allowing two runs to score. One more run would score before the inning would come to an end. Phillies up 6-3.

Adding on a seventh run in the fifth, Philly 7 and the Reds 1. Infact the Reds were kept off the board since their one run in the first inning until the top of the seventh inning. Scratching across 3 runs the Reds still losing made it a 4-7 game.

The Phillies put up another run in the bottom of the eighth to make it 8-4. And that is how the Reds win streak would be snapped.

7 runs would score during Abbott's 6 innings of pitching, but only 4 of those Runs would be Earned Runs.

Cincinnati would get 9 Hits the Phillies 13 Hits.

The Reds will head back to Cincinnati and have a rest day tomorrow. A chance to straighten themselves up and dust themselves off before host the New York Mets for three games. SP Hunter Greene (1-0) 0.00 ERA will get his second start against SP Jose Quintana (1-0) 1.29 ERA.

ENJOY REAL BASEBALL TOMORROW EVERYBODY. AND DON'T FORGET TO CHEER FOR THE REDS.

                ****REDS INJURY UPDATE

After yesterday's loss to the Phillies, Reds LF Jesse Winker let manager Aaron Boone know he was experiencing some discomfort in his right shoulder. The training team examined Winker ran an MRI and X-rays. All came back negative to any serious problems. As a precautionary measure the Reds retroed Winker to the IL where he will spend the next 10 days resting his shoulder.

Because of Winker's not so stellar fielding skills nowadays, he has primarily been used as a DH vs righties or came off the bench in platoon situations with lefty starters.

3B Christian Encarnacion-Strand will most likely taking his spot in the lineup for a few days and CF Billy Hamilton is being called up from AAA Louisville.

Let's see who gets more stolen bags Billy or Elly.

Re: MLB The Show 24 Franchise Mode Discussion Thread

The month of May is over, and not a lot has changed. We entered the month 5 games under .500 and finished the month 7 games under. Only 4.5 games back of the division-leading Guardians. After losing the 3rd game to the Blue Jays to start the month, we returned home and lost 2 of 3 games to both the Rangers and the Brewers. We then headed out on our first West Coast road trip of the season, taking 3 of 4 against the Angels before heading up to Seattle and taking 2 of 3 against the Mariners. Unfortunately, our road trip ended, and we returned home to lose 2 of 3 to the A's and Tigers. We fought back with a 3-game sweep of the Rays but couldn't keep up the momentum and have lost 4 of our last 5. 3 of 4 in Minnesota and the first of 3 games at home against the Padres.

                  Schedule Resuts
                  Spoiler

We optioned SP Alec Marsh to Triple-A Omaha on May 6th, recalling SP Austin Cox to take his place. Marsh had a 6.82 ERA in 33 IP. In 34 innings for Omaha, Cox had a 2.12 ERA and 1.03 WHIP. The next day, we released 2B Adam Frazier and recalled 2B Michael Massey. In 55 AB, Frazier was hitting .200/.214/.291. In Omaha, Massey hit .274/.304.493 in 73 AB. And then, following last night's 2-9 loss to the Padres, we decided to release both RP Carl Edwards Jr. and SP/RP Jordan Lyles. Lyles had a 4.59 ERA with a 5.59 FIP in 49 IP, while Edwards had a 6.08 ERA in 26.2 IP. SP Daniel Lynch and RP Jake Brentz are taking their spots on the roster. Lynch put up a 2.05 ERA in 66 IP for Omaha, while Brentz had a 1.23 ERA in 7.1 IP for Omaha after starting the season on the IL.

The offense is now hitting .243/.297/.408, good for 25th, 28th, and 18th in the league. We have just 5 players with an OBP over .300. The only player with an AVG over 300 is Massey with 47 AB. Salvy leads the team with 13 HR and 31 RBI, .519 SLG and .801 OPS. Garrett Hampson now leads the team in WAR with 1.5, hitting .259/.342/.439 with 3 HR, 8 Doubles, 4 Triples, and 7 SB. Bobby has continued to improve slightly. Now hitting .244/.304/.425 with 7 HR, 13 Doubles and 3 Triples. He finally got caught stealing, now 16 for 17 on the season. Dairon Blanco couldn't continue his hot April, dropping to a .273/.299/.393 line.

The pitching side improved overall in May. The team has a 3.94 ERA, which is good for 13th in the league. We are tied for 5th in walks allowed at 158 and 21st in Strikeouts with 399. Michael Wacha had a rough 2nd half of the month. He was scheduled to start on May 12th but had some shoulder soreness while warming up. He made his next start on the 17th, giving up 6 runs in 3.1 IP. His following start was good, giving up 1 ER in 6 IP. But he struggled again in his latest start, giving up 4 runs in 4 IP. Overall, he has a 3.34 ERA in 59.1 IP. Brady Singers bounce-back season has continued leading the rotation in IP (76), Wins (4), ERA (2.76), WHIP (1.07), and Quality Starts (9). His K/9 has plummeted to only 4.86 so far. But has made up for it with a stellar 0.95 BB/9. Daniel Lynch will take over in the rotation for Austin Cox, who is moving to the bullpen to take Jordan Lyles's spot. Cox has struggled to go deep into games in his last few starts. He went 6.2 IP with no runs or walks allowed in his first game of the season. But since then has only gone 3.1, 4.1, and 1.2 IP.

The bullpen has been excellent outside of Carl Edwards Jr. and Matt Sauer. John Schreiber has a 4.06 ERA, Nick Anderson has a 3.25 ERA, James McArthur is at 2.70, Chris Stratton is at 1.91, and Tyler Duffey, who replaced Will Smith, has a 0.63 ERA in 14.1 IP. Rule 5 pick Matt Sauer is clearly in over his head with a 7.24 ERA in 13.2 IP. But until we start winning more, he will continue to come in and give up runs in blowouts.

We have only six games against the division before the All-Star break, all against the division-leading Guardians, who are only 30 and 28. So there is still plenty of time to get things going in the worst division in the league. Around the league, the Blue Jays now lead the AL East at 33-24, with the Rangers still leading the West with an AL-best 38-19 record. Over in the NL the Braves lead the NL East at 38-19, The Cardinals still lead the Central at 30-27 and the Dodgers now have the best record in MLB at 40-19.

                    July 5-7, 2024: COLORADO SPRINGS (37-52) @ FLAGSTAFF (38-53)
                    Stadium: AutoZone Park (Capacity: 13,406)

                    July 5: Hops 9, Snow Sox 3
                    July 6: Snow Sox 4, Hops 2
                    July 7: Snow Sox 3, Hops 1

Flagstaff, AZ (AP) - The Colorado Springs Snow Sox came into Flagstaff on a losing streak and ended that by taking two of three from the Hops in a battle of ML West bottom feeders.

The Hops would rally from an early deficit to defeat the Snow Sox 9-3 in the opener of the weekend series. Emmitt Hampton went 2 for 4 with a home run and drove in three to help pace the Hops to the win.

The Snow Sox got off to a quick start as Mike Rock homered in the first off of Alex Farmer. They would extend that lead to 2-0 in the fourth on a solo home run from Juan Primo.

Flagstaff would strike in the sixth as Emmitt Hampton singled home Robbie Westbrook to get the Hops on the scoreboard. Art Mason then hit a grand slam to put the Hops in front to stay, his 13th on the year. After the Snow Sox got one back in the top of the seventh, the Hops would score three more in the bottom half, capped off by an Emmitt Hampton two-run home run, his 12th on the year.

Bradley York would drive in another in the eighth with an RBI double.

Alex Farmer (12-3) picked up the win, tossing 6.2 innings and allowing three runs on five hits. He struck out seven. Brian Chin (3-8) was credited with the loss. He lasted just 5.1 innings and gave up five runs on five hits, while striking out four and walking one.

On a cloudy Saturday afternoon, the Snow Sox broke a five game losing streak with a 4-2 victory over the Hops. Jamie Case keyed the victory, going 2 for 3 with a home run and three runs driven in.

Robbie Westbrook got things going in the bottom of the first inning, smashing a solo home run to right-center that put the Hops up 1-0.

Juan Primo would tie it up in the fourth with a solo home run off of Juro Yamaguchi. Jamie Case would then end Yamaguchi's afternoon in the seventh as he hit a hanging curveball over the wall in left. That two-run home run put the Snow Sox up 3-1.

Art Mason would hit a solo home run in the bottom of the seventh to cut the lead to 3-2, his 14th of the season.

But a big RBI single from Jamie Case in the top of the ninth that scored Todd Austin added a huge insurance run.

Julio Sanchez came on in the bottom of the ninth and walked Art Mason and gave up a single to Roberto Geronimo. But then worked his way out of trouble, striking out Bradley York and then getting Ryan Kelly to ground into a game ending 5-4-3 double play, one pitch after Kelly hammered a ball over the fence that was just a few feet foul.

Juro Yamaguchi (2-9) pitched well, but made two mistakes that cost him. He allowed three runs on five hits in six plus innings. He struck out eight and walked two.Humberto Aguilar (7-8) picked up the victory for the Snow Sox to snap their losing streak. He went 6.2 innings, allowing two runs on seven hits, while striking out six.

On Sunday afternoon, the Snow Sox got a couple of big home runs to power past Flagstaff 3-1 to win the series. Jamie Case once again came through with a two-run home run that proved to be the game winner for Colorado Springs.

Case hit the two-run home run off of Russell Fluty in the fifth inning to put the Snow Sox up 2-0. Fluty was very good again but made a couple of mistakes and it cost him. He is coming off the first ever no-hitter in IBL history in his last start.

Robbie Westbrook would get the Hops on the board in the sixth with an RBI single.

Juan Primo hit a solo home run that ended Russell Fluty's day in the seventh. It was Primo's 12th of the season.

Colorado Springs got 5.1 innings of work from starter Wolf (4-6). He allowed one run on six hits and struck out six. The bullpen got the final 11 outs with Julio Sanchez once again picking up the save, his fifth, navigating through the ninth and getting David Benitez to strike out with a man on to end the ball game.

Flagstaff (38-53) will now head to Salt Lake (47-43) for a four game series beginning tomorrow evening before hosting St George (49-42) to end the first half of the season as the teams head into the All-Star break.

Around the League: Las Vegas' Brandon Roush continued his hot hitting going 2 for 3 with a walk-off solo home run (11) in the bottom of the 11th as the Nuggets defeated Mesa 2-1 on Saturday afternoon.

Fresno's Percy Sievers went 1 for 3 with a three-run home run as the Bears defeated Henderson 4-2 on Saturday. Lamont Vann worked a 1-2-3 ninth to pick up his 26th save in 29 opportunities for Fresno.

Salt Lake's Adolfo Villarreal (7) and Robby Payne (13) hit hit two-run home runs to power the Chukars to a 4-1 victory over St George to move within a half game of first place in the ML West.

In an odd game, Glendale defeated Surprise 14-7 in a game that featured three innings where a team scored seven runs. The Desert Dogs scored seven in the first and eighth innings with Surprise putting up a seven spot in the fifth. Glendale's Clinton Lake went 3 for 5 with two home runs (14,15) and drove in six to help pace the Desert Dogs to the wild victory.

Scottsdale's Martin Perez homered twice (15,16) and drove in four as the Scorpions blanked Phoenix 14-0. Jaime Pacheco (12-4) pitched 8.1 shutout innings, scattering four hits as he struck out eight and walked three.

Fort Worth extended their lead in the ML East with a 5-4 victory over slumping Austin. Pablo Feliz went 2 for 4 with a double, home run (15) and three RBIs to pace the Kings to their tenth win in their last 12 games.

Zach Dossett's bases clearing three-run double in the top of the ninth keyed a five run Chandler rally as they slipped past Roswell 11-6 on Sunday afternoon. Dossett drove in four as the Chiefs increased their lead in the DL East to 13.5 games over Salt River.

Series losses to the Red Sox and Guardians have the Jays at 45-30 as we approach the midway point of the season. Also, the following roster moves have been made:

Signed pitcher Michael Lorenzen from free agency and added him to active roster
Pitcher Bowden Francis sent to Triple A.
                      Infielder Eduardo Escobar released

Over on my Royals save, year 1 has concluded with a record of 93-69, good enough for the second seed in the American League and a first round bye. KC will be facing the Yankees in the ALDS.

Finally ready to get things rolling. Here's my Braves franchise for MLB 24:

                          SETTINGS
                          Hitting - Default HOF/Timing
                          Pitching - Default HOF/Classic
Fielding - Auto with Manual throwing
                          Game Style - Competitive
                          Injuries - Off (personal preference)
Budgets - On (after several years of playing with them off)
Trades - Have to use the trade block
Roster - Default post patch #3 (they update the default roster with each patch). Before starting, I did go in and add some guys like Felix Bautista, Sandy Alcantara and Clayton Kershaw to their respective teams' 40-man roster. Also added Jordan Montgomery and J.D. Martinez to their respective teams.

Our total budget is $269M with about $257M for player salaries. We currently have about $20M to spend.

Pretty much the same as the RL Braves. No surprises.

                          ROTATION
                          1 - Spencer Strider (R)

                          5 - Bryce Elder (R)

Decided to go with Elder as the fifth starter, but he'll be on a fairly short leash.

                          BULLPEN
                          CL - Raisel Iglesias (R)
                          SU - AJ Minter (L)
                          SU - Tyler Matzek (L)

                          LR - Reynaldo Lopez (R)

Listing Lopez as the long reliever, but we plan to use him in a variety of roles in the bullpen, and he may get a spot start here and there.

                          ON DECK AT GWINNETT
                          SP - Huascar Ynoa
                          SP - AJ Smith-Shawver
                          RP - Dylan Lee

                          BRAVES TOP PROSPECTS
1 - Hurston Waldrep, SP (AA)
                          2 - AJ Smith-Shawver, SP (AAA)
3 - Owen Murphy, SP (AA)
                          4 - Diego Benitez, SS (A)
5 - Drue Hackenberg, SP (AA)

Hired three new scouts. All three are rated in the 90s for pitching, since the Braves traditionally focus on building through pitching.

Well, Cavan Biggio has played his final game of the 2024 season as the second baseman suffered a season ending ankle injury in Toronto's 4-3 loss to the Cleveland Guardians. Weston Wilson has been called up to take over the roster spot.

                              Overall Record:8-14 (5th AL West/5.5 behind Texas)

                              Game Results:

                              Game 3
                              Guardians-3
                              Athletics-2

A's losing streak reaches seven with second straight sweep

The hot Guardians hosted the ice cold Athletics in a three game series to conclude the teams' final meetings of the 2024 season. Cleveland came into the series on an eight game winning streak and Oakland came in on their own streak, a four game losing streak. Both streaks would continue after the series as Cleveland swept Oakland in three games.

The Athletics have now lost seven games in a row and no help seems to be in sight. The offense cant get going and the pitching staff has crumbled when it mattered the most.

At this point, we would like to highlight some kind of bright spot for the team but really, there isnt any.

The A's will look to turn things around as they start a four game set in New York against the Yankees (9-13/4th AL East).

Athletics to bring back hometown favorite

The Athletics have made a out of character early season transaction. They have signed Matt Chapman to a two year, $13.4 million deal to bring a fan favorite back to Oakland in an attempt to generate some hype as the team fights to stay in California. Chapman will start in AAA to get his legs under him but will likely quickly be brought up to the MLB team with the struggling Ryan Noda (.160 AVG/.200 OBP) being the likely victim to be optioned.

Cardinals Take Series against Red Sox

The Cardinals (19-28) took 2 games of a 3 game series against the Red Sox in St.Louis over the weekend. The Cardinals are still 8 games back of the Brewers/Cubs who are tied for the division lead.

After losing on Friday night thanks to a bullpen let down, the Cardinals won Saturday with an offensive explosion including Tyler O'Neill going 3 for 4 with 2 homeruns and 5 RBIs. Sunday pitching led the way as the offense sputtered out 3 runs, but the Cards staff allowed just a single run.

The Cardinals are back on it Monday with the Orioles coming to town for a 3 game series.
