Re: MLB The Show 24 Franchise Mode Discussion Thread

The Mets continue their fast start by taking 2 of 3 from the Tigers. Game one the Mets fell behind 2-1 but tied in in the 5th with a Ronny Mauricio RBI single and Francisco Alvarez gave the Amazins the lead for good with a two run HR in the 6th as the Mets went on to win 4-3. Game two Tylor Megill got shelled for 8 runs in 1.1 innings and the Mets never had a chance, the ended up taking on some garbage time runs and losing 13-8. After the game Drew Smith was sent to AAA Syracuse and Austin Adams was recalled as a fresh arm was needed after needing 7.2 innings from the bullpen. Game three the Mets took a 3-0 in to the 7th but Adam Ottavino coughed up the lead. The Mets were able to bounce back with two runs in the 8th and Edwin Diaz closed the game out for his 4th save of the year. This was our first win without a HR thanks to some aggressive baserunning.

The biggest surprise so far has been Harrison Bader. I've faced five righties and he has contact/power ratings of 46/43 against righties but he's hitting .500 so far. Something about his stance makes it easy for me to hit.

I don't know if this is a bug or some quirky stat scenario I never thought of, but Starling Marte somehow has a higher batting average than OBP.

Whats your record right now? And Bader is killing it for me also, 3 HR in first 6 games of season.

I'm 5-1, the rotation for the most part has been good but the bullpen is a ticking time bomb. I decided to use dynamic difficulty for hitting while I get my timing down but I didn't decide this until after I did the initial game setup so I couldn't choose what level I started on so I ended up on the lowest level possible and my first game was a home run derby.

Diamondbacks homestand ends by dropping 2 games against the Yankees

          Game 1 : NYY 12-9 ARZ // Game 2 : NYY 4-2 ARZ // Game 3 : NYY 3-10 ARZ

The first game of the serie wasn't the day for the starters as Ryne Nelson (2.0 IP, 8 H, 7 ER, 0 BB, 1 SO) and Clarke Schmidt (4.1 IP, 12 H, 7 ER, 0 BB, 3 SO) were knocked out of the game early. Both teams combined for 33 hits.

The second game was a pitcher duel between Zac Gallen (7.0 IP, 6 H, 3 ER, 3 BB, 8 SO) and Gerrit Cole (6.1 IP, 3 H, 2 ER, 5 BB, 5 SO). Unfortunatelly, the Snakes offense couldn't do anything, recording only 3 hits.

Finally, the D-Backs snap their 4 games losing streak on Wednesday behind a good outing by Merrill Kelly (6.0 IP, 5 H, 2 ER, 0 BB, 7 SO) and a stellar performance at the plate by Lourdes Gurriel Jr who hit 3 HR and 5 RBIs.

The Diamondbacks (2-5) have a day off on Thursday and will travel to Atlanta to face the Braves (3-3) for their first serie on the road of the season.

          Around the league
          • Paul Sewald broke is arm during the second game against the Yankees and has been placed on the 15 Day IL. He's expected to be out for 1-2 months. The Diamondbacks have called up Drey Jameson to fill the bullpen.
          • On Game 3 against the Yankees, Ketel Marte reached the millestone of 1,000 hits with a RBI single.

CRAZY OFF SEASON FOR THE CINCINNATI REDS

Well Spring Training wrapped up today for the Cincinnati Reds, finishing with a winning record of 17-11 ( some played and some quick managed).

But the real news is all of the craziness that has happened under the new ownership. We still are not clear on who the new owner is but supposedly they are being referred to as SuperFuzzyButt. Sean Casey has been hired as Special Consultant to Nick Krall and appointed as Media Relations for the team. If anyone has listened to Sean before, they will know the The Mayor likes to talk and media days should be be fun.

The Reds managed to convince the Yankees to swap managers making Aaron Boone the Reds new skipper.

Nick Krall followed ownership's orders and brought back Joey Votto and Nick Senzel. He also was able to convince Jesse Winker, Johnny Cueto, Tucker Barnhart, Billy Hamilton (AAA) to come back on one year deals.

So OPENING DAY REDS roster will be...

            C Tyler Stephenson
            1B Spencer Steer
            2B Jonathan India
            SS. Matt McLain
            3B Nick Senzel
            LF Jesse Winker
            CF Elly De La Cruz
            RF T.J. Friedl
            DH Joey Votto

            C Tucker Barnhart
            IF Christian Encarnacion-Strand
            OF Stuart Fairchild
            OF Will Benson

            SP. Hunter Greene
            SP. Nick Lodoko
            SP. Johnny Cueto
            SP. Andrew Abbott
            SP. Graham Ashcraft

RP. Michael Lorenzen Going to back to two way player
            RP. Lucas Sims
            RP. Ian Gibaut
            RP. Buck Farmer
            RP Alex Young
            SU. Tejay Antone
            SU. Sam Moll
            CP. Alexis Diaz

The Reds will open the new season hosting Washington in a three game series. The Reds announced Andrew Abbott will be the starter for game one, as a reward for his performance last season. Hunter Greene will get the nod for game two, and Johnny Cueto will return to the mound for the Reds in game 3.

              Brandon Belt Signs With Guardians

The Cleveland Guardians after a quiet offseason have signed Brandon Belt to fill the DH position on a reported 1 year, 4.5 mil deal. He is expected to meet the team in Seattle, but no word yet if he will suit up for the series.

              Mariners Sweep Guardians

A week after Bieber threw a perfect game, The Cleveland Guardians got no hit by Seattle and Bryan Woo. He is the 7th no hitter in mariners franchise history. It was 0-0 going into the bottom of the 6th, when Seby Zavala (1) crushed a low fast ball to deep center to give Seattle the lead. Cade Marlowe proceeded to hit one almost to the same exact spot 3 pitches later. To make matters worse Josh Naylor exited the game in the 7th with leg discomfort. After the game it was found out it's only a deep thigh bruise and he will be day to day.

Game 2, Luis Castillo went 8 innings of 3 hit ball with 6 strikeouts and Luis Urias lead the offense with 2 homeruns (3) and 4 RBI. Cleveland is struggling to score runs and struggling to get hits unless you're Jose Ramirez or Ramon Laureano.

The final game of the series, Cleveland hoped to claw one back, but Seattle had other ideas as the pitching was electric again. This time Kirby went 7, striking out 6. That along with homeruns by Polanco (1) and France (2) gave Seattle the 4-2 win. McKenzie gave up all 4 runs in 5 innings after having a strong 1st start in Oakland. Brandon Belt also got his at bats of the season, going 1 for 3 with an RBI and a walk. Cleveland (3-4) continue the road trip in Minnesota (4-1) Thursday for a 3 game set before finally having their home opener against the White Sox (2-4) Monday.

Cleveland Take 2 of 3 in Minnesota

Game 1 was a pitchers duel as the first run scored wasn't until the 11th inning when Laureano got an RBI single to score the winning run and Clase got the save (3) with 2 strikeouts. Pablo Lopez and Tanner Bibee went pitch for pitch and combined for 14 strikeouts with 3 walks. Unfortunately for Bibee, he left the game in the 7th and Scott Barlow got the win pitching the 9th and 10th.

Game 2 was very different as The Guardians got up early and piled it on 9-1. Josh Naylor and Ramon Laureano bpth homered and the 5-9 hitters all had at least 1 RBI. Minnesota had 8 hits themselves but couldn't drive any of them home, leaving 6 runners on base. Josh Stanmont had a nightmare relieving the Twins when he gave up 4 runs and only managed 1 out in the 7th inning.

Sunday, get away day, Minnesota made sure to make the hits count, scoring 6. Carlos Carrasco is now 0-2 for The Guardians with a 7.71 ERA. Minnesota (5-5) after 10 straight on the road get to enjoy a home opener against The WHite Sox of Chicago (4-6) Monday.

A's fail to collect the sweep as four game winning streak ends

Hey, after the start to the season, who would have thought the Athletics would even get to a four game winning streak. They did however thanks to winning the last two against Texas and the first two against Washington. All of the wins aside from game three versus Texas were decided by just one run.

Game one was won on a Ryan Noda walkoff single in the 11th inning. Game two was won, 4-3 despite the Nationals attempted comeback.

Game three was the loss that ended the winning streak. The A's had their #1 starter Paul Blackburn on the mound and honestly, the Nationals kinda shelled him (9 hits in just 5 innings). However, he was bailed out of tough situations with good defense and timely pitching that led to a few double plays that prevented runs from scoring. The Atheltics even got out to the early lead when Brent Rooker hit his second homerun of the year, a two run shot, in the first inning.

The Nationals then got on the board in the third when Joey Gatto his a three run shot to right center field that scored three and gave the Nationals the lead, 3-2.

Brent Rooker struck again in the next inning for his second of the game and third on the year. Then, Lane Thomas added one of his own, his first of the year in the sixth inning as the Nationals retook the lead 4-3. That score would hold until the end as neither team could get much going past that point.

The Athletics are now back at .500 at 8-8 and will close out their homestand with three Vs. St. Louis (11-5/1st NL Central).

Braves Split Quick Home Series With Boston

                    May 7-8, 2024

Things sure got off to a hot start in game one for Braves, as Matt Olson hit a monster 3 run shot in the bottom of the first and Bryce Elder was working his way to a quality start with only one run allowed through four innings. That would evaporate in the fifth, as a three-run shot from Masatake Yoshida would be followed by a pair of knocks from Rafael Devers and Triston Casas before Aaron Bummer would come in to relieve Elder. Bummer's early season struggles would continue though, as he gave up back-to-back hits to score three more runs as the Braves fell behind 7-3. In the bottom half, Ronald Acuna would hit a deep shot to center field before Jarren Duran made a leaping, home run saving catch. Austin Riley would make up for it with a homer right after, but momentum had officially swung. Bummer would give up a two-run shot to Yoshida in the top of the sixth, ending his day with four earned while collecting just three outs. Riley would add another homer later, but the damage was done as the Braves fell 9-6.

After two straight losses, the streak stopper would take the mound in Spencer Strider, who dazzled yet again with a dominant eight-inning, 13-strikeout, one run performance. Acuna found the bleachers, Michael Harris and Orlando Arcia would find RBI knocks of their own, and Raisel Iglesias closed out a close 3-1 win.

Bummer's ERA now sits at a horrific 9.31 and another outing or two of similar results will likely see him sent down to use his final minor league option. The guy most likely to replace him in the bullpen would be Huascar Ynoa, who has impressed as a starter in AAA.

The Braves stand at 24-12 and up six whole games over the Philadelphia Phillies in the NL East. Up next is a three-game road set against the last place New York Mets (14-24).

Braves Keep on Winning, Take Two In New York

                      May 10-12, 2024

The series against the Mets got off to a quick start for both teams, as Michael Harris and Francisco Lindor each led off the game with homers for their respective teams. Max Fried would run into additional trouble in the fourth when he hung a sinker to Harrison Bader, who would smash it for a two-run shot. Luis Severino had found his groove and was holding the lead at 3-1 until the sixth, when Orlando Arcia got one to hit and grooved it over the left field fence. Matt Olson would give the Braves the lead with a two-run shot himself in the seventh off of Joey Lucchessi. Reynalo Lopez got himself into some trouble in the eighth after a leadoff hit to Lindor. AJ Minter would get the first two guys out before a Lindor steal was followed by a nice single to right from Pete Alonso to make it a 5-4 game. Marcell Ozuna extended the lead with a solo shot in the top of the ninth. Raisel Iglesias would strike out the side for his seventh save of the year, which also improved Fried's record to 5-0.

Game two was all Braves, as the Mets' Jose Butto walked eight batters and two runs in four innings before Adrian Houser gave up three walks, three hits, and three runs in 1.2 IP. Things would get worse, as Jake Diekman also walked three batters before giving up two hits, allowing three runs while never getting an out. Overall, Atlanta would draw a staggering 15 walks with 11 hits, including homers to Harris and Austin Riley, scoring 12 runs in a rout. Outside of a Pete Alonso three-run homer, Chris Sale was great for 6.2 IP before Dylan Lee recorded the final seven outs in a 12-3 win.

Mets' ace Kodai Senga has been awful this year, but he wasn't in the Sunday matchup. Senga's seven scoreless innings lowered his season ERA to 5.48, but it was a great sign regardless. Charlie Morton tried to work around trouble, but gave up three runs in four innings, including a homer to Brandon Nimmo. Ronald Acuna would hit a homer himself in the ninth, but the Braves lose 3-1.

Acuna's brother and top prospect Luisangel would enter the series with a .318 average in six games, but would go 0-8 with six strikeouts in his two starts in this series.

The Braves stand at 26-13 and have their NL East lead down to five games over the Philadelphia Phillies. Up next is a trip back home as they take on the Chicago Cubs (24-17) in a matchup of two of the best teams in the National League.

Short Lived Success...Cardinals Drop Series to Mets

The Cardinals (16-21) had short lived success as they couldn't win back to back series, as they dropped 2 of 3 to the Mets in St.Louis. The Cardinals are still in last place in the NL Central trailing the Brewers by 6 games.

The Cardinals won the series opener on Monday which extended their winning streak to a season high 5 games, but that would quickly come to an end. Tuesday saw Cooper Hjerpe make his MLB debut as a spot starter for the injured Sonny Gray, and Hjerpe was lit up for 8 runs over 3 innings of work. On Wednesday the Cardinals got a great pitching performance from Kyle Gibson who struck out 12 and yielding just one run, but the bullpen would allow 3 more and the offense would produce zero.

The Cardinals are back on the road and at it on Thursday with a 4 game series in Milwaukee against the division leading Brewers. Its only May but this is a big series. The Cardinals can make up ground, or they could potentially find themselves 10 games out of first if swept.
I can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.

I miss the old days of Operation Sports :(

Got my Braves franchise started, but I'm still tinkering with settings and player edits before getting going. Think I've settled on default HOF.

I'm using the default roster and Reynaldo Lopez is a reliever there. Was planning on using him that way, but saw the new update switched him to a SP. His rating goes up 9 points doing that, so now I'm trying to decide how I want to use him.

                            OPENING DAY

The Cincinnati Reds opened the new year against the Washington Nationals. It was Andrew Abbott (CIN) and Josiah Gray (WAS). Abbott got the Opening Day start, which is a huge honor in Cincinnati, for his performance last season as a rookie and he started out the new season admirably. Abbott pitch 6 innings of shutout baseball allowing 5 hits but striking out 7. In the post game interview, Sean Casey stated that Abbott was on a innings and pitch count limit to start the season. Infact all our starters will be for the first two or three turns through the rotation. This may be due to the fact Abbott and others just ran out of gas last season causing them to miss the post season.

Abbott left with a 7 - 0 lead. Instead of going to the bullpen, skipper Aaron Boone decided to let some of position players work on their two way qualifications.
Matt McLain pitched a clean 7th inning, Elly De La Cruz gave up 2 hits and a run in the 8th and for the first time in 17+ years Joey Votto got to pitch. Joey was a strikeout machine. Striking out 2 but also allow 2 hits and a run in the 9th. RP Micheal Lorenzen worked on his 2 way quals as well, starting out as the DH and later moving to RF. A poorly played ball by Lorenzen allowed the earned run to score against Votto. Maybe the official scorer will change it to an error and drop Votto's ERA to 0.00.

The real story and the main reason the Reds were able to score so much was the Nationals catcher Keibert Ruiz, his arm as catcher is terrible. The Reds stole 7 bases against Ruiz. Three of those bags though we're from Elly, so no chance there for Ruiz. Sean Casey joked that Boone almost gave Votto the green light to steal but thought better of it because they would had to put wheels on Votto's walker and that would have been a dead giveaway.

The Reds have the day off tomorrow and then flamethrower Hunter Greene takes the mound.

                              Diamondbacks pitching continues to suffer

                              Game 1 : ARZ 6-3 ATL // Game 2 : ARZ 3-7 ATL // Game 3 : ARZ 6-7 ATL

The D-Backs lose a third straight series in Atlanta by winning only one game of the three games set.

While the offense has been good since the beginning of the season, it's not really the case of the pitching staff who can't seem to keep the ball on the ground. In ten games played, the Snakes watched the ball goes deep 17 times.

Eduardo Rodriguez bounced back in the first game with a solid performance, allowing only three runs and striking out five in six innings of work and for the first time this season, the Snakes won two games in row.

But the winning streak comes to an end in game two as Brandon Pfaad allowed five runs in only five innings and Ryne Nelson (3.1 IP, 5 ER) wasn't sharp at all in the last game of the series as the Braves got him early. After two starts, Nelson sit at an ERA of 20.25.

The Diamondbacks (3-7) stay on the road with a 3 games series against the Rockies (4-6).
