I pinch hit for Yaz with Austin Slater and on the first pitch I saw hit it into the first row of the stands just over Brendan Marsh glove to walk it off to the NLDS.

Again thinking I’d most likely play Atlanta I ended up taking on the dodgers. Game one was a disaster and I’ll just say I trail the series one game to none. The dodgers absolutely own me this year. It’s laughable really. But I’ll keep fighting because I honestly I didn’t even think my team would make it here so I have nothing to lose.
And we are going to game five!!

Giants force game five in the NLDS after being down two games to none against Los Angeles. Game one was a blowout loss. Game two I stranded the tying run at third in the ninth. Game three I hung on for dear life and won 3-2 after Logan Webb threw an absolute gem. Game four I was able to win a solid 6-3 game as the bullpen locked down five scoreless innings. Game five today against the dodgers in Los Angeles. Can’t believe I’ve made it this far with this team.

NLDS Game 1 - St. Louis at Philadelphia

This game did not go how I expected, which was a good thing. Steven Matz was hitting his spots and the Phillies looked rusty as he pitched 7 innings, allowing no runs on 2 hits and striking out 3.

Dylan Carlson would hit a 3 run HR and have a total of 5 RBIs as the Cardinals would cruise to a 7-0 win.

Game 2 - Miles Mikolas vs Aaron Nola

        Dodgers beat the Braves, 4-3.

          Rockies Franchise: Year 4

          Offseason Review

Coming off the first World Series Championship in franchise history *should* have created an opportunity to continue building, but some people are left wondering if a relatively quiet offseason by the Rockies front office could have them heading in the wrong direction.

Colorado certainly made their pitches to their own players, as well as a number of high profile free agents, but ended up missing the mark on key players such as starter Kevin Gausman, trade deadline acquisition Lane Thomas, as well as others.

Gausman may have been a player that held up other negotiations for this team, as he had a 3 year deal on the table from the Rockies, but ended up signing a 4 year $80 million contract with the Orioles, that will run through his age 38 season. For a team that finished the year with some decent depth in the rotation, the Rockies will head into year 4 with Ryan Cusick in the rotation, and not much behind him aside from minor league signing Chris Flexen, who in this franchise hasn't pitched in the majors in 3 years.

There are certainly other names that are potentially on the rise, such as Jackson Cox, Jaden Hill, as well as 21 year old Jack Ferris, but Cox and Hill both struggled last season, while Ferris will start the season in AA.

When it comes to the teams bullpen, Colorado managed to hold on to reliever Andrew Kitteridge, who signed a 1 year deal, but lost key pitcher Pete Fairbanks, who had a resurgent season after being a waiver claim by the Rockies earlier in the year.

Last years NL reliever of the year John Curtiss heads up the back end of the bullpen, while he returns as the teams closer, with Jose Alvarado going into year 2 of a 4 year deal, while James Karinchak heads into his final year before free agency. The team signed lefty Brailyn Marquez to a minor league deal, and it looks like lefty Dylan Dodd, Rowan Wick, and Jake Bird will round out the pen.

On the field, the losses of Lane Thomas (3 year deal in Cleveland), and Yandy Diaz (3 year deal with the Dodgers), will certainly be felt. The only offsetting move was to sign JD Martinez to a 1 year $1 Million contract. Martinez had an *ok* season last year, playing 80 games and picking up 14 HR's for the Mets.

Colorado's offence will rely on breakout seasons from players such as Yanquiel Fernandez (who has 54 homers through his first two seasons, but took a bit of a step back last year), sophomore 2nd baseman Adael Amador, and catcher Drew Romo. The team will also rely on last years playoff MVP Drew Cooper, who struggled through 14 games in early August, but got the call in mid-September and performed extremely well throughout. Cooper enters the season as the NL Rookie of the Year favorite, and the top prospect in the majors. He was the Rockies first selection (9th OA), in year 1, and has been ranked as one of the best prospects ever since.

Back to back NL HR champ Nolan Jones returns, as well as 4th year 1B Derrick Hall, who has posted an incredible .925 OPS so far in his career, though he can't hit lefties.

A team with many potential cracks, and a number of question marks heading into this season, the biggest question mark may be the future of CF Jazz Chisholm, who put up a career year last season, and is a potential free agent at the end of this year. Chisholm reportedly turned down a 10 year offer this offseason, and could be poised to cash in on next years free agent market. After the prospect haul that the team gave up to acquire him just over a year and a half ago, that could be a huge issue moving forward.

Cardinals enter all-star break tied with Cubs for division lead

The Cardinals and Cubs will enter the All-Star break tied atop the NL Central Division. The Brewers and Reds are both 7 games back with the Pirates 12 out.

The Cardinals ended an 11 game losing streak and then went on to win 6 straight before dropping their 3 game series to the Nationals prior the break. The Cardinals will start the second half of the season with a trip to the northest that starts with 3 games in New York against the Mets, and then 3 in Philadelphia, before capping off with 3 in Boston.

The Cardinals head into the break looking at the trade market to see what they can do to bolster their pitching staff and maybe a positional player. Injuries have hampered the Cards the first half of the year, but so has also just unproduction from guys they were counting on in the Spring.

NLDS Game 2 - St. Louis (1-0) at Philadelphia (0-1)

Both Aaron Nola and Miles Mikolas pitched great games, Nola would only give up 1 run, a HR to Masyn Winn and Mikolas a HR to Bryce Harper and it would stay 1-1 until the 8th inning when the Phillies would scrape another run to go up 2-1. Jose Alvarado would get the save and the Phillies would tie the series. FINAL: Cardinals 1, Phillies 2

NLDS Game 3 - Philadelphia (1-1) at St. Louis (1-1)

Sonny Grey would come out strong, but have a rough 3rd inning as the Phillies would jump out to a 3-0 lead. He would allow a total of 4 runs and Kolby Allard was good, allowing 2 runs. The Cardinals would end up losing, 6-2 and face elimination in Game 4. FINAL: Phillies 6, Cardinals 2

NLDS Game 4 - Philadelpia (2-1) at St. Louis (1-2)
Taijuan Walker PHI vs Matt Manning STL

Dodgers sweep Atlanta (3-0) and move on to the NLCS
              Minnesota leads New York (2-0)
Houston and Baltimore are tied (1-1)

                2024 Chicago Cubs 09/16-09/18

Overall Record:100-52 (1st NL Central/16.0 over St. Louis)

                Game Results

                Game 1
                Cubs-7
                Athletics-4

                Game 2
                Cubs-4
                Athletics-2

                Game 3
                Athletics-8
                Cubs-5

Cubs first to 100 with another series win

The Cubs have reached the 100 win mark for the first time since 2016 and are the first team to reach that mark in 2024. Both the Atlanta Braves and Minnesota Twins currently sit at 98.

The Cubs had a couple of milestones in their first game against the Athletics. Shota Imanaga pitched a strong seven innings while he allowed just four hits and one run. He also had six strikeouts which got him to an even 200 on the year. To this point into the season, he is just the fourth pitcher to reach that mark. Oddly enough, all four are in the national league (Shohei Ohtani (242, Spencer Strider 241, Blake Snell 214 and Shota Imanaga 200).

The other milestone came in the first inning when Patrick Wisdom hit his 50th homerun of the season. While that is by far a career high, its likely that he will land far short of where he was projected after having 40 at the All-Star break.

The Cubs went on to win the game 7-4 but the A's did make it interesting in the ninth when they scored three on Mark Leiter JR who was in his second inning of work. Carld Edwards JR came in and got the last two outs for his sixteenth save of the season.

The A's again made it interesting late in game two when they tied the game at 2 each in the 8th inning. The Cubs answered back in the bottom half however on homeruns by Christopher Morel #34 and Seiya Suzuki (32). Edwards also saved that game for #17.

Game three followed the same path with the game being decided late. This one was decided in the 10th inning when Oakland managed three runs off of Keegan Thompson while the Cubs failed to score against Zach Jackson who collected his 23rd save of the season.

The Cubs will now welcome the Washington Nationals (51-101/5th NL West) as the regular season heads into its last week.

Re: MLB The Show 24 Franchise Mode Discussion Thread

Playing one of my latest franchises as the Los Angeles Dodgers. They've always been my favorite team. We get to the playoffs and we're facing the San Diego Padres in game one of the NLDS. Shohei Ohtani is out injured and probably won't be back for the entire playoffs/World Series.

We get to the top of the 9th and the Dodgers are up 2-1. I bring in my closer, Evan Phillips to slam the door. First two batters are strikeouts. Jackson Merrill comes up and hits one into center field for a base hit. So now we're facing the former Dodger Manny Machado. I get a pitch or two to Machado and then notice that Merrill has a big lead at first. I take a peek there and then throw it to first and get him out! The first game of the NLDS ends in a pickoff play to first base. It's the first time I've ended a game on a pickoff play to first. I just wanted to share that.

In case anyone wants to know, the scores came first in the third inning with a Max Muncy hit to the outfield after Freddie Freeman hit a triple. Then they scored a Jake Cronenworth home run in the fifth. Then we had a Mookie Betts home run in the seventh.

Everyone but Andy Pages, who was my DH for this game with Ohtani out, got at least one hit. We had ten hits in total and only two scores. I was definitely worried we would throw this one away.

Tyler Glasnow was on the mound and pitched 7 innings with 3 hits and 9 strikeouts. Michael Grove came out for the eighth with one hit on him. Then Evan Phillips finished.

On the other side, the Padres had five hits and struck out 11 times. I did hit Jurickson Profar with a pitch. Machado and Tatis each had a double in the game.

Joe Mugrove started the game and had 6 innings pitched and 5 strikeouts. Adrian Morejon took the loss with one inning pitched. Yuki Matsui also had one inning pitched.

RHP Branelli Franco invited to Futures Game

20 year old RHP prospect Branelli Franco was invited to the Futures Game in Detroit on Saturday. Franco pitched one inning giving up a walk. He struck out 2 and didn't allow a run.

Franco is currently in Springfield at the AA level. There he is 1-2 with 17 holds and an ERA of just over 2. Franco will likely move to Memphis next year.

Nolan Arenado only Cardinal on NL All Star Roster

3B Nolan Arenado will be the sole representative for the Cardinals in the 2026 All Star Game in Detroit. Arenado has struggled of late as his average is down to .259 but he has 19 homeruns and 57 RBIs at the break. He's also still playing solid defense at the hot corner.

American League walks off National League in All Star Game

The National League blew a 3-1 lead in the bottom of the 9th, as the American League put up 4 runs in the final half inning to walk off with the victory.

Cardinals no-hit by Sean Manaea and the Mets in series loss

The Cardinals offensive struggles continue as they were no-hit Sunday afternoon at Citi Field by Sean Manaea of the Mets. This comes two days after being shutout on Friday and one day after winning 3-1.

Manaea just destroyed the Cardinals having them off-balance all day as he completed the no-hit bid throwing just 86 pitches.

There are about 2 weeks left in the deadline and the Cardinals focus has primarily been on pitching help, but the Cardinals may need to seriously consider looking for someone, anyone, that can swing a consistent bat at the plate.

The Cardinals will travel to Philadelphia for a 3 game series against the best team in the National League, the Phillies.

Cardinals could get creative at trade deadline

The Cardinals have experienced a roller coaster ride the first half of the season and the 2nd half of the season isn't proving to be much different. In fact in its brief start, the 2nd half is proving to be more downhill than up at the moment.

The Cardinals trail the Cubs by a single game in the NL Central division. But despite the battle for the top of the division, the central fails far behind the East and West as the winner will easily be the 3rd best divisional record and the other 4 teams will be lucky to make the wild card as things stand now.

With that in mind, the Cardinals could be both sellers and buyers this deadline, with the focus on buying pieces to continue to compete with the Cubs (Brewers and Reds as well) to get win the division, but also sell off pieces to eager teams with visions of deep October runs and get higher than offseason returns for those players.

Sure, its an odd stance to take, but the Cardinals are in a spot where yes they are in the hunt for the playoffs and anything can happen when there, but also could miss all together and selling key future pieces could prove to put the Cardinals in a "rebuild" year or two versus continuing to be a playoff favorite.

One thing is for sure, the front office will not bail on the current season and give up. But they could try to get creative and keep players around and obtain players to maintain and advance their position, while trading replaceable players with future talent so they continue to stay as playoff contenders/favorites next year and beyond.

Could be an interesting trade deadline for the Cardinals. Some of targets the Cards were eyeing are off the market already, so that makes the situation that much more uncertain.

NLDS - Game 4 Philadelphia (2-1) at St. Louis (1-2)

It was a cold, rainy day in St. Louis and SP Matt Manning would get into trouble early in the 2nd inning, after walking the first batter, a single, and another walk, Phillies would have the bases loaded. Bryson Stott would send a 3-1 Manning fastball over the CF wall for a Grand Slam and the Phillies would find themselves up 4-0.

After the bottom of the 2nd inning, there would be a 90 minute rain delay so the Cardinals had to go to their bullpen early, as did Philadelphia after Nolan Gorman hit a Taijuan Walker fastball over the CF wall for a 467ft homerun.

The Cardinals bullpen was great and they would get to within 1 run with solo homeruns from Contreras and Edman, 4-3.

Bottom of the 9th inning and they would hit loud outs, 2 to the warning track, but the Phillies would hold on to win 4-3 and the series.

The Phillies will head to Los Angeles to take on the Dodgers.

I can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.

I miss the old days of Operation Sports :(
