Love Stone Garrett got the pleasure of watching him in double A ball when he was in the Diamondbacks organization. He had some awesome homeruns to include a walk off homerun in the final game of the season in what was overall a disappointing season for our double A team.

I've had a blast thus far with Juan Soto in my Cubs franchise I hope he serves you well too.

Cubs first to 40 but suffer first series loss in May

The month is almost over and the Cubs just lost their first series of the month. The entire NL Central are above .500 thus far early into the 2025 campaign and the last place team just beat the first place team in their first meeting of the year.

The Cubs and Pirates exchanged shutouts in the first two games as the Cubs got the 3-0 victory in game one while the Pirates got their 2-0 win in game two.

Both team scores in game three as Paul Skenes (Pirates) faced off against Justin Steele (Cubs). Steele entered the game 7-1 while Skenes entered at 5-2.

The Cubs got on the board first in the second inning when Dominic Smith doubled in Cody Bellinger who had singled earlier in the inning.

The Pirates answered back in the fourth and sixth innings as they scored two in each to take the lead at 4-1. The Cubs tried to fight back in the bottom of the sixth as Ian Happ knocked his sixth homerun of the season, a two run shot off of Skenes to make the score 4-3.

From there however, the bullpens would enter and not allow another run on either side as David Bednar eventually came in the game and got his 16th save while pitching a perfect 9th inning to give the Cubs the 4-3 victory and 2-1 series win.

The Cubs will now enter another first series against a divisional opponent as they travel to St. Louis to take on the Cardinals (32-25/2nd NL Central) to end May and welcome in June.

Soto named NL Player of the month, Cubs complete Cardinals sweep to enter June

Juan Soto is your NL Player of the month. In may, he batted .366 hit 14 HR's and had 30 RBIs. Atlanta's Spencer Strider (5-0 1.17 ERA 42 SO) was the NL pitcher of the month and Luisangel Acuna (.356 AVG 1 HR 3 RBI) was the rookie of the month.

On the AL side, Corey Seager was the player of the month (.339 AVG/12 HR/26 RBI) Nick Pivetta also of the Rangers was the pitcher of the month (4-1/1.59 ERA/39 SO) and Phillip Chung (KC LF) was the rookie of the month (.247 AVG/5 HR/10 RBIs).

Not only was Soto the player of the month, but he played a huge role in the Cubs 3-0 sweep of the Cardinals to end May and start June. He was responsible for both of the Cubs run in the first game that was won in extras, 2-1. His second came in the 10th inning when he singled home a run. Tanner Scott then secured his 12th save of the season while he struck out 2 in the bottom half of the inning.

He then hit his 200th career HR in game 2 as the Cubs beat the Cardinals 8-2. He was hitless in game three but walked twice and scored once as the Cubs got another 8-2 victory to complete the sweep.

The Cubs now travel to Arizona to take on the Diamondbacks (31-27/2nd NL West)

Cardinals finish first month with 16-13 record

The Cardinals finished the first full month of the season with a 16-13 record and are 5 games behind the Reds in the NL Central Division. The Reds finished the month with a 21-8 record.

The Cardinals were led by newly acquired Yordan Alvarez who leads the majors in average (.393) homeruns (14) and RBIs (29) thru the first month. The biggest concern has to be the bullpen which once again is struggling to maintain leads and get the ball to Ryan Helsley to close things out.

The Cardinals will head into the month of May with a series in Detroit to get things started.

Re: MLB The Show 24 Franchise Mode Discussion Thread

I just finished the first regular season of my 1990 franchise. I've been so impressed with this game as the season went on, especially using a created classic roster set. When I did the rosters, I made sure each teams 26 man roster had full career stats that were consistent with the MLB experience of each player. Additionally, I tried to make sure that MVP, Cy Young, and ROTY winners of the time had their awards as well. This brought additional immersion into the season as if they were current rosters. The announcers treated them as if they were current day players by recognizing their career achievements in game and on the scorebar.

My user team was the Cubs. Grew up as a Cubs fan, and the 1989 team is one of my favorite of all times. Going into the 1990 season, I had just joined the Army and was in basic training at the beginning of spring training and in AIT during the regular season so I didn't get to follow the team as much as I had been in previous years so this was my opportunity to correct whatever happened during that failed 1990 Cubs season.

My Cubs finished in 1st place of the NL East (the magic of rebranding), barely outlasting the Mets by one game. Cards, Expos, and Phillies followed in that order. LA won the west and Pittsburgh the Central. Real life World Series champions Cincinnati, who were without Eric Davis and Barry Larkin for major parts of the season, were a WC along with two of the replacement teams I created due to the DBacks, Rockies, or Marlins yet being in existence. Ryne Sandberg won the NL MVP, the Mets Doc Gooden beat out Greg Maddux for the Cy Young, and Atlanta's David Justice won the ROTY.

Oakland ran away with the AL West, Toronto the AL East, and Detroit the Central with Seattle, Yankees, and Baltimore, earning the Wild Card spots. Torontos Fred McGriff blasted 50 home runs and barely beat out the real-life 1990 AL MVP Ricky Henderson, who put up some crazy numbers. The Big Unit, Randy Johnson, beat out Roger Clemens and Jim Abbott for the Cy Young, and Travis Fryman won the ROTY barely beating out Frank Thomas.

I'm looking forward to the playoffs and hopefully continuing this franchise for a few seasons.

            CUBS ADVANCE TO NLDS!!

The NL East Division Champion Chicago Cubs advance to the National League Division Series after a 2-1 Wild Card Series win over the Cincinnati Reds.

After what appeared to be a series changing setback after two batters in game one when ace Cubs pitcher Greg Maddux had to leave the game after being struck by a line drive from Reds superstar shortstop Barry Larkin. Fortunately for Chicago, Reds ace Jose Rijo struggled, and both offenses were firing on full cylinders against both teams' bullpen. The Cubs were able to survive game one with a 12-11 victory.

Game two saw both starting pitchers throw shutout baseball through 6 innings. While Reds starter Tom Browning, went on to only allow one run over 8 innings pitched, Cubs starter Mike Bielecki wasn't as fortunate as he was hit hard in the 7th inning allowing five runs in a 5-1 loss as the Cubs scored a meaningless run in their half of the ninth.

In Game 3 of the series, the Cubs went back to their ace Maddux, who had recovered from his game one injury and was now fully healthy and rested. While Maddux stymied the Reds, throwing a complete game shutout allowing only 5 hits and striking out 7, the Cubs offense came back to life, scoring 7 runs powered by home runs by league MVP Ryne Sandberg and third baseman Luis Salazar.

The Cubs will move on to face the NL Central Champions Pittsburgh Pirates, who won their division on the last day of the season and played the entire season without their superstar CF Andy Van Slyke, who would be able to return if the Bucs are able to make it to the National League Championship Series.

The LA Dodgers and their formidable starting rotation of Ramon Martinez, Orel Hershiser, Tim Belcher, Mike Morgan and former ROTY and Cy Young winner Fernando Valenzuela will face the Tennessee Stars in the other NLDS, as Toronto and AL MVP Fred McGriff will face off against the Detroit Tigers and perennial all stars Alan Trammel Lou Whitaker and slugger Cecil Fielder, and the star studded Oakland As and their electric MVP runner up Ricky Henderson and the Bash Brothers Jose Canseco and Mark McGwire, will face their division rival Seattle Mariners and AL Cy Young winner Randy Johnson and their young 2nd year superstar Ken Griffey Jr.

Cubs start June on sour note with series loss to NL West leading D-Backs

The Cubs really should have won two of three but over confidence in their ace cost manager Dave Roberts and Chicago.

Shota Imanaga was the pitcher in game one versus the Arizona Diamondbacks and overall, it wasn't his best start of the year. He ended up pitching a 'complete game' 8 innings while he allowed 11 hits and 4 runs while he struck out 7 and didn't allow a walk.

Still with the inflated hit totals, the Cubs went into the eighth inning up 3-0 and with Shota still on the mound, things were looking promising. That eighth inning was where the D-Backs got to Imanaga with the first run coming off of a rbi double by Corbin Carroll that scored Geraldo Perdomo. That was followed by Ketel Marte's rbi GO to make the score 3-2. Imanaga's struggles continued however as he allowed two more runs off of a Lourdes Gurriel JR double that was followed up by a Matt Chapman single to give the D-Backs the 4-3 lead. A lead they would hold on to as Chris Martin pithced a perfect 9th inning for his 14th save of the season.

The Cubs got a much better game out of Justin Steele in game two. As he too pitched a real complete game, 9.0 innings, 4 hits, 1 run, 6 SO, 0 BB. After the Cubs got to the D-Backs starer, Brad Keller to a tune of 4 runs in the first two innings as he lasted just 4 total. Steele didnt get the complete game shutout as he allowed 1 in the ninth but stuck it out for the 6-1 victory.

Game three saw the Diamondbacks get to Jameson Taillon in the very first inning for four runs that included homeruns by Ketel Marte (10) and Alek Thomas (5). That lead held up as Zac Gallen was great despite allowing 8 hits of his own. He went on to allow just a single run on a seventh inning solo shot by Bo Naylor (15) while Kyle Nelson and Chris Martin closed out the game.

Of note, Juan Soto has hit a bit of a skid as he went 0-10 in the series.

The Cubs will now return home for a six game homestand with the first four coming against the Cardinals (34-29/4th NL Central)

Enjoying the reading in here. I have played this game since 06, and I have always waited until late in the season to extend contracts.
I just recently started a new franchise and decided to extend several players that I was absolutely going to keep.
Question is, does it make any difference as far as extending during spring training as opposed to late season on their cost?

The Cubs and Cardinals split their four gamer series, 2-2. The Cardinals won the first two while the Cubs fought back to first avoid their worst losing streak of the season and to tie the series with their 7-3 victory in game four.

Still, the series wasnt good for Chicago as both their offense and pitching struggled.

The Cubs offense did come alive in game four with their 7-3 victory, however, that took a six run 7th inning that included Juan Soto's MLB leading 29th homerun that scored three. Those three RBIs have hims second in the MLB with his 62. Aaron Judge is the MLB leader (63).

The Cubs will now finish off their homestand as they reluctantly welcome the White Sox (33-33/2nd AL Central) to town.

Cardinals finish month of May on 7 game winning streak and in first place of NL Central

The Cardinals (35-21) finished the month of May on a 7 game winning streak and currently lead the Reds by 1/2 game in the NL Central.

The month of May was a streaky month for the Cardinals. They had a winning streak of 5 games, followed up with a losing streak of 6 and then finished the month on a 7 game winning streak. The Cardinals also made up 4 games in the month on the Reds, including sweeping the Reds in the final series of the month in Cincinnati.

The offense has become extremely productive during month, but the concern continues to be the bullpen, and also Walker Buehler. The bullpen continues to blow up while Buehler is as inconsistent as they come. Another concern is the fact that Nolan Gorman only has 2 homeruns and 15 RBIs hitting in the #5 spot of the lineup. Gorman is coming off a season where he missed the 2nd half due to injury, but still signed a lucrative 5 year deal in the offseason.

The Cardinals will begin the month of June in Philadelphia with a 3 game weekend series with the Phillies. The Phillies are having issues of their own as they lost Bryce Harper for the season to a torn ACL and prized free agent signing from last year, Shane McClanahan is again on the long term IL with a forearm injury. McClanahan has only started 4 games for the Phillies thus far. The brightside is he's 3-0 in those starts.

Cubs slug their way to 2-0 sweep of White Sox

It was just two games but the Cubs totaled 9 homeruns in their series versus the Chicago White Sox. Juan Soto was the only one who homered in both games. That makes it three in a row for him as he continues to pace the entiere MLB.

The Cubs will now hit the road as they travel to Ohio to face the Reds (33-36/5th NL Central)

In early postseason roster moves, the Cubs have signed free agent closer Dave Smith, formerly of the Houston Astros, and moved closer Mitch Williams to the Philadelphia Phillies in exchange for young relievers Chuck McElroy and Bob Scanlan.

In moves around the league, the Chicago White Sox obtained speedy outfielder Tim Raines from the Montreal Expos in exchange for OF Ivan Calderon and RP Barry Jones, while the San Diego Padres traded OF Joe Carter and young second baseman Roberto Alomar in exchange for AL MVP Fred McGriff and SS Tony Fernandez.

Appears the Hot Stove League will be very active around the majors this off-season.

Cubs take two of three in Cincy

The Cubs and Reds split the first two games with both games ending in 3-2 finals. The Cubs won game one and the Reds won game two. The Cubs did have a great shot to win that second game as they were up 2-1 with two outs in the bottom of the ninth. Unfortunately, Tanner Scott couldnt finish it out as he allowed a two run walkoff homerun to Christian Encarnacion. The blown save was Scott's third of the season. The Cubs also scored both of their runs in the very first inning thanks to a two run shot by Juan Soto (#32). From there, the Cubs coudlnt get anything going and eventually gave up that lead.

The Cubs came out hot in the third game of the series. They scored three in the first inning off of Mitch Keller and finally, it appeared that a team would get over that three run mark in the series. But then, Keller settled in while Justine Steele allowed runs in both the second and third innings to make the score yet again...3-2. Luckily, that wouldn't be the final . The Cubs scored three more in the fifth as both Juan Soto (34) and Cody Bellinger (16) homered in the inning.

The Reds later got on the board again as Stuart Fairchild took Carl Edwards JR deep to make the score 6-3. Tanner Scott was then brought in for the 9th and was able to redeem himself as he pitched a perfect three up three down inning with two strikeouts for his 16th save of the season.

The Cubs now head to Milwaukee to take on the Brewers (41-30/2nd NL Central).

Cubs drop series to Brewers and lose ground in division

The Chicago Cubs still have a 7.5 advantage in the NL Central but the Brewers did get the better of them in their most recent series in what was the teams' first meeting of 2025.

The Cubs got their only victory in game one behind a complete game shutout pitched by Jameson Taillon, his first of the year. Seiya Suzuki provided the offense for Chicago with two rbi's. One of those was a homerun in the 9th inning to give the Cubs an insurance run that helped Taillon finish it off.

The Brewers won game two, 5-1.

Game three was a classic between the two. The Cubs got out to a 4-0 lead in the first inning as they nearly batted around against Jacob Junis. The Brewers battled back however and eventually took the lead in the fifth inning as they scored 4 of their own to at the time, give the Brewers the 7-6 lead. The Cubs tied it up in the sixth despite getting no hits. Nico Hoerner was hit by a pitch and worked his way around the bases to score the tieing run.

That score held until the 10th inning. In extras, Chicago was unable to score while Willy Adames hit a walk off liner into RF to give the Brewers the 8-7 victory and the 2-1 series win.

The Cubs will now have a day off before they go back home to play Baltimore (34-41/3rd AL East)
