Re: MLB The Show 24 Franchise Mode Discussion Thread

So my Draft Only Astros have finished off the 2026 Spring Training, and our roster is set. During the offseason we made some Rule 5 Draft Picks, but other than that our new faces are guys who have established themselves during spring training. Some guys that I didn't really want to move up yet showed great things, so they didn't really give me any choice. Here is our roster:

    C - Cole Carrigg - 23 yrs old - 70 ovr - C potential
    C - C.J. Stubbs - 29 yrs old - 66 ovr - C potential
    1B - Joey Loperfido - 26 yrs old - 68 ovr - B potential
    1B - Tyler Locklear - 25 yrs old - 66 ovr - B potential
    2B - Pedro Leon - 27 yrs old - 68 ovr - C potential
    3B - Jordan Diaz - 25 yrs old - 70 ovr - B potential (Rule 5 Draft Pick)
    3B - Zach Dezenzo - 25 yrs old - 66 ovr - B potential
    SS - Fernando Reyes - 22 yrs old - 75 ovr - B potential
    SS - Michael Helman - 29 yrs old - 71 ovr - C potential
    LF - Jacob Melton - 25 yrs old - 73 ovr - B potential
    CF - Mason Auer - 25 yrs old - 72 ovr - C potential (Rule 5 Draft Pick)
    RF - Roberto Campos - 22 yrs old - 72 ovr - C potential
    RF - Cam Fisher - 24 yrs old - 70 ovr - C potential

    SP - Eric Lauer - 30 yrs old - 77 ovr - B potential
    SP - Spencer Arrighetti - 26 yrs old - 73 ovr - B potential
    SP - Simeon WoodsRichardson - 25 yrs old - 72 ovr - C potential (Rule 5 Draft Pick)
    SP - Garrett Hill - 30 yrs old - 71 ovr - C potential
    SP - Brendan Beck - 27 yrs old - 70 ovr - B potential
    SP - Alonzo Tredwell - 23 yrs old - 70 ovr - C potential
    RP - Zach Brzycky - 26 yrs old - 66 ovr - C potential
    RP - Matt Cronin - 28 ovr - 65 ovr - C potential
    RP - Ronan Kopp - 23 yrs old - 64 ovr - C potential
    RP - Carson Palmquist - 25 yrs old - 64 ovr - C potential
    RP - Blake Burkhalter - 25 yrs old - 62 ovr - C potential
    RP - Miguel Ullola - 26 yrs old - 61 ovr - C potential
    CP - Nathan Lavender - 26 yrs old - 67 ovr - C potential

I didn't want Fernando Reyes to come up this quickly. He's 22 years old, I wanted him to have another year to really develop, but at 75 overall he's one of our highest rated players and when I decided to give him a shot in the spring he hit .325 and was a consistent force for us. Jacob Melton is a guy I wanted to give him shot now (at 25 years old) and he showed that he is one of the best outfielders we have so we didn't have a choice. We gave 22 year old outfielder Luis Baez a shot as well, but he struggled at the plate, so we went ahead and moved him back down to AAA.

Now we begin our season, and this is the first year (3 years into this franchise) that we will have the #1 pick in the draft, so this is where we start seeing a light at the end of the tunnel. Hopefully we can make the right picks and these guys start turning us around.

Should I bump up the difficulty to legend? I am finding pitching (using meter) pretty easy to locate and therefore dominate - even with the white sox staff. Every other MLB the show, I've found legend to be ridiculously hard, as in i cannot compete.

how's everyone else going with gameplay difficulty?
      I am playing on Legend.
I use classic pitching and timing hitting as they both rely more on player attributes.
I am basically running default sliders except I have the AI contact at 6, power at 6, injury sliders in game at 8 and sim at 6. I also have foul frequency at 0 for both myself and AI.

I gave legend a go. i liked it ... bcos i play zonal hitting and meter pitching on competitive, it's my input that overrides the player attributes.

the CPU is really borderline cheesey with batting on legend. they paint the corners and change the sight line so well. and their stuff goes up to randy johnson- like movement.

i'll persist tho. every game i'll have to be uber-focussed which isn't a bad thing.

i might need a better team than the white sox now

I've been on legend for the last two shows' although at times, I struggle with hitting, I still really enjoy it. I dont really feel like the CPU has any 'cheating' advantage I just need to be better when things arent going great. I hope you enjoy it.

            2024 Oakland Athletics 05/24-05/26

            Overall Record:
            23-32 (5th AL West/12.5 behind Texas Rangers)

            Game Results

            Game 1
            Astros-4
            Athletics-0

            Game 2
            Astros-9
            Athletics-2

            Game 3
            Athletics-2
            Astros-0

A's avoid sweep again with game three victory

Justin Verlander was great for Houston in game one in Oakland. He pitched a full nine innings allowing just thee hits and no runs. The Stros got a pair of RBi's from both Jose Altuve and Jose Abreu as they went on to win, 4-0. They then went on to domiante game two in their 9-2 victory.

Then, the A's saw themselves facing a sweep in the final game of the series for the second in a row. Miguel Andujar was suffering from a stomach bug before the game but told the A's manager, Mark Kotsay that he did not want to be taken out of the lineup.

With other players resting, Andujar was moved up to third in the lineup and his first at bat made Kotsay happy that he listened to him. Miguel took a 3-2 high fast ball 420 feet over the center field wall to give the A's their first lead of the series, 1-0.

Hogan Harris was the Athletics starter and continued his hot start to the year early on. Unfortunately, a 90 mins rain delay forced him (and Houston's starter, Cristian Javier) out of the gamer early. Rich Hill replaced Harris while Lance Mccullers JR replaced Javier. Both peformed well in their long releif rolls as Mccullers pitched 3.1 innings of scoreless ball while Hill did the same but lasted a bit longer with 4.2 innings under his belt.

Brent Rooker hit his 9th homerun of the year off of Kendall Graveman in the seventh inning. The Athletics then went on to win, 2-0 while Lucas Erceg collected his 13th save of the year in a three up three down 9th inning.

The A's now enter the last week of May as they travel to Tampa to face the Rays 33-21 (1st AL East/tied with Toronto).

Thanks man ... it's definitely a challenge hitting. the cpu locate so well, you basically have to commit to a spot and hope they pitch there.

I've never played with sliders, bcos it's such a rabbit hole to wander down. I do wonder if HOF sliders with a few contact nerfs and maybe speed up the pitches so i have less time to react would be better than legend.

i'll tinker this weekend and start a new franchise on monday. the roster update today was pretty sweet ... so there's another reason to start again.

Even that beautiful play by my guy Daulton couldn't save the disaster that was the first duel between the Yankees and Blue Jays. For 8 innings the Blue Jays dominated the game, ending up leading 5-1 in the 9th. Reliefer Genesis Cabrera was supposed to bring the game home after taking over in the 8th for Kikuchi, who was flawless until this point. All he had to do was take out the 7-8-9 part of the lineup, but 2 singles to start it was enough to end his day and bring in the Closer.
Sadly his first pitch of the day ended up as a 3 run home run and so the Jays lead was down to 1 with no outs.

And of course it happened what had to happen: Single and Sac Fly to tie the game. Single and Sac Fly to win the game for the Yankees.

The Cubs have had several memorable moments so far in their young season. This game at Wrigley vs. the Astros was one. The season is currently in May and the struggling Cubbies find themselves in last place in the Central with a 13-21 record. One bright note as of late is the power hitting of Patrick Wisdom as he homered in 5 straight games.

                      Atlanta Braves August 2024 Recap

                      Monthly Record: 18-11
                      Season Record: 96-42
                      NL East Standings: Braves 96-42, Mets 61-76 (34.5), Phillies 60-76 (35), Marlins 59-77 (36), Nationals 53-63 (42)
Offensive Player of the Month: Ronald Acuna - Acuna’s slow start power wise had led to a second half surge to push for a second 40-40 season. In August, Acuna essentially kept his slash while hitting nine homers with 11 steals. This is the premier power-speed threat in baseball.
Pitcher of the Month: Chris Sale - An absolutely dominant month, as the veteran lefty brought his ERA down almost three-tenths to get sub 3.00 for an incredible late career resurgence. Joe Jimenez was also sensational out of the bullpen, dropping his ERA almost an entire run over 20 innings on the month.
Player That Disappointed: Jarred Kelenic - The pressures of his early extension seemed to get to Kelenic for a bit, as a mid-month slump really brought down his number pretty substantially before a solid finish to August. There’s no real worries, though lefties gave him more trouble as he faced them more this month when he got additional starts against them.

Thoughts for August: The Braves keep things rolling at the top of the division. Things seem like a lock that Atlanta will feature the NL MVP in Austin Riley and the NL Cy Young winner in Spencer Strider. Both have been exceptional this year. Several players are having career years as the Braves are looking to move into rare air with a good September of getting over 110 wins as a team, something only seven teams in the history of baseball have done. Their current pace has them at 113.

                        Blue Jays sweep the Dodgers

                        Game 1 : Dodgers 3-5 Blue Jays
                        Game 2 : Dodgers 3-6 Blue Jays
                        Game 3 : Dodgers 2-3 Blue Jays

In a series featuring two potential World Series teams, the Blue Jays managed to sweep the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Toronto offense came back during this 3 games, especially the power, as the Blue Jays went deep 6 times while the pitching continues to be dominant.

The Blue Jays completed the sweep in extra innings when Vladimir Guerrero Jr. hit a walk-off sac fly in the right field to score the runner from third.

Toronto (21-8) will stay at home to host a 3 games series against the Kansas City Royals (12-17) to close the first month of the season.

Yeah, they really are the best sports game in terms of showing the reality of the game. Those momentum swings can go as hard as they go in the real game.

                            Orioles August 1st Update

Current Record: 66-43 (2nd AL East .5 GB, 2nd Wild Card Seed)

                            July Record: 18-7

                            Orioles Notes:
                            • After a tepid June that saw the Orioles fall out of first place and fall 6 games behind the Rays, the O’s got back on track in July. Thanks to going 18-7 in July they are now just 1/2 game back of the Orioles and currently hold the #2 Wild Card Seed.
                            • The O’s sent 3 players to the All Star Game this year. C Adley Rutschman and IF Gunnar Henderson were both names starters for the AL squad. OF Anthony Santander also made the team as a reserve.

                            • 1B/DH Ryan O’Hearn has been placed on the IL with a fractured shin and will miss 1-2 months. Bad timing for the O’s and O’Hearn as he was the O’s hottest hitter at the time of his injury. The O’s have called up OF prospect Heston Kjerstad to take O’Hearn’s spot in the lineup.

                            • August looks to be a challenging month for the O’s. They open the month with 10 straight road games against quality opponents (CLE,TOR, TB). They also close the month with a road trip to World Series contending LA and a series at home vs. Houston.

                            Current Lineup:

The Cubs have decided to try to mend a broken bullpen that’s allowed a league high 11 blown saves by trading for a couple of relievers that were placed on their respective team’s trading block. First, the Cubs traded for the Orioles Dillon Tate while giving up Brennen Davis, a B prospect in AAA. Next, the Cubs and Rays struck a deal with Shawn Armstrong going to Chicago for AA SS Cristian Hernandez.

The Pete Crow-Armstrong era may be beginning in Chicago. The Cubs, looking to add a spark to a team currently struggling in last place in the Central, have called up their top prospect and added him to today’s lineup vs. the Brew Crew at Wrigley.
