Re: MLB The Show 24 Franchise Mode Discussion Thread

6-3 with the cubbies. Took 2 of 3 from Texas. Lost 2 of 3 to the Rockies. And just swept the dodgers. Offense has been carrying. Pitching has struggled with a 4.84 era or something close to that. But 2nd in the league in the homers. Third in average. First in slugging and 5th in OBP.

Direction HOF hitting and Meter Legend Pitching.

Imanaga dominated the Rockies in his first start 8 inning and 14 Ks. but he just gave up 6 runs in 5 innings vs the Dodgers but got the win with 7Ks. He’s fun to use. Lots of swing and misses.

Re: MLB The Show 24 Franchise Mode Discussion Thread

The offseason has come and gone and the Royals will open up the 2025 season with a few new faces in the organization. On the coaching side, we decided to make quite a few changes. Manager Matt Quatraro and Pitching Coach Brian Sweeney return. Joining the team is Jack Tomaszewskias Hitting Coach, Louis Shelton as the new 1st Base Coach, and Forest Samuel as 3rd Base Coach. Juan Nunez will now oversee our minor leaguers as the new Farm Director.

On the player side, we resigned SS Garrett Hampson to a 2-year deal worth 12 million dollars with a mutual option after the 1st season. In free agency, we gave RP Tanner Scott a 4 year, 32-million-dollar contract with a mutual option after the 3rd season. Last season in Boston he had 30 Holds with a 3.11 ERA in 66.2 IP. The plan was to start Garrett Hampson at 2B this coming season, but 6 weeks into free agency There was little interest in 2B Amed Rosario so we made the move to bring him in on a 3-year deal worth 21 million dollars and a player option after the 2nd season. In 144 games for the Rays, he hit .300/.348/.451 with 11 HR, 41 Doubles, and 15 SB. Our last free agent signing was to bring in another catcher grabbing Kyle Higashioka on a 1 year deal for 3.5 million. He had 107 at-bats for the Padres last season hitting .224/.280/.364. In the Rule 5 Draft, we added a piece to the pen selecting RP Drey Jameson from the Diamondbacks. He made no appearance for Arizona last season coming off of Tommy John Surgery.

MLB Free Agent Signings & Rule 5 Draft
      Spoiler

The draft lottery went as expected on our side. We had the 9th best odds for the #1 pick and will select there in the upcoming draft. The Oakland A's, Chicago White Sox, and Miami Marlins had the best odds with the A's coming out on top. After a league-worst 54-108 season the Marlins weren't done losing quite yet falling to 4th in the draft with the Pirates getting lucky moving from 7th to 2nd.

      Lottery Results
      Spoiler

Heading into Spring Training the roster was about 75% set. Brady Singer, Cole Ragans, Daniel Lynch, and Seth Lugo were locked into the rotation. Tanner Scott, John Schreiber, Carlos Hernandez, Chris Stratton, James McArthur, and Nick Anderson were bullpen locks. The infield was set with Vinnie Pasquantino, Rosario, Maikel Garcia, and Bobby Witt Jr, while Hunter Renfroe was set in to start in right field with Nelson Velazquez at DH.

The expectation for Catcher was to platoon Fermin and Higashioka but Logan Porter would get a chance to earn a spot on the team. Out in Center Field, we expected Kyle Isbel, Drew Waters, and Dairon Blanco to battle it out while MJ Melendez and Garrett Hampson battled for the Left Field spot. Tyler Gentry, Tucker Bradley, and Gavin Cross were also on the roster with a chance to but not expected to earn a spot. Michael Massey, Nick Loftin, Nick Pratto and Livan Soto were all fighting for backup spots on the infield.

We had 4 guys competing for the 5th spot in the rotation with Kyle Wright, Kris Bubic, Alec Marsh, and Jonathan Bowlan each getting a chance to win it. Kyle Wright missed all of the 2024 season after an injury-filled 2023 limited him to 9 games followed by offseason shoulder surgery. The last couple of bullpen spots were up for grabs by Jake Brentz, Will Klein, Drey Jameson, Josh Taylor, and John McMillon.

After the staters made their first 2 starts we optioned Alec Marsh to the minors. In 6.2 IP he gave up 6 ER and 5 walks. The rest of the starters stayed up until the end with Kris Bubic coming out on top with a 1.50 ERA in 12 IP. He will still start the season in AAA to make a couple of starts as we won't require a 5th starter until April 9th. You could tell Kyle Wright hadn't pitched in over a year putting up an 8.71 ERA and 2.13 WHIP in 13 IP. Bowlan was somehow even worse putting up a 10.13 ERA with 9 ER and 7 Walks in 8 IP.

With only 4 starters to begin the season an extra bullpen spot was available. Rule 5 pick Drey Jameson had a good strikeout and walk numbers but just couldn't get guys out consistently putting up a 1.90 WHIP with a 7.90 ERA. But the league would not let us waive him during spring training so he ends up making the team along with Jake Brentz and Josh Taylor. Will Klein was the one to lose his spot to Jameson though he wasn't all that great himself putting up a 4.61 ERA and 1.54 WHIP in 13.2 IP.

The offense struggled quite a bit this spring. Kyle Isbel and Dairon Blanco were just a few of the guys who decided to bring their bat to Arizona and they ended up taking both starting spots. Isbel hit .371/.488/.457 in 35 AB while Blanco hit .295/.328/.475 in 61 AB. The 4th outfielder spot went to Drew Waters mainly because of his speed and defense. He hit .237/.341/.526, while Tyler Gentry ended up being the only other option hitting .267/.340/.489. I really wanted MJ Melendez to take the LF spot but a .347 OPS in 40 AB earned him a trip back to Omaha. Garrett Hampson and Livan Soto ended up as the backup infielders to start the season. Soto earned it hitting .273/.324/.379 while Hampson with his .461 OPS in 46 AB makes the Rosario signing look like a great decision. And to finish it up Logan Porter wasn't able to earn a catcher spot hitting .161/.187/.290 in 31 AB. So Fermin (RHP) and Higashioka (LHP) will split time at catcher to start the season.

      2025 Royals Organization
      Spoiler

Since I forgot to do it last season our 2024 draft class was 21-year-old Darnell Hobbs, 20-year-old CP Alonso Aguero, 21-year-old RF Ramon Chavez, 18-year-old SP Shannon Woodard, and 21-year-old 2B Darrick Evans.

Hobbs is nearly ready offensively with good contact and discipline to go along with a strong arm and good speed. ETA - 2027.

Aguero throws a 4-Seam in the low to mid 90s to go along with a sinker and slider. His pitches have good movement that helps him pile up strikeouts, though he has some trouble with command. ETA 2027.

Chavez played RF in college but will need to improve his defense to be more than a DH/1B in the pros. At 6'4", 215 his power is pretty disappointing but he has great vision with good contact and speed to be a potential lead-off guy in the future. ETA - 2028.

Woodard throws a 4-Seamer in the low to mid-90s to go along with a Cutter, Curve, and Change. Good command and movement on his pitches, doesn't walk a lot of guys but hasn't been impressive with his strikeouts so far. ETA - 2029.

Evans will need to do a lot of work defensively to play anywhere on the infield. Another potential lead-off man with good speed and vision to go along with good bat control. ETA - 2028.

We open up the 2025 season with a lot of division games. We kick things off in Detroit for a 3 game series before taking a quick trip down to Cincinnati for 2 games. The White Sox come to town for our home opener followed by the Colorado Rockies. A 4 game trip to Cleveland follows before we make our way north to face the Blue Jays. Next up is a divisional homestand as we once again take on the Guardians in a 3 game series followed by a 4 game series against the Twins. We end the month on the road as we take on the Astros and then head up to Minnesota for another divisional rematch against the Twins. Only 13 games against teams that finished over .500. With 9 of them coming on the road.

Cardinals lose series in Miami to Marlins

The Cardinals (36-39) dropped their series to the Marlins to begin the week. The Cardinals won the series opener on Monday, but lost Tuesday and Wednesday. The Cardinals are still just 5 games back of the Brewers and 4 games out of the wildcard.

Monday was Miles Mikolas getting the ball and he was exceptional. Mikolas only made it thru 6 innings due to pitch count, but gave up a run on 3 hits. Unfortunately, Alex Reyes struck again giving up the 4-1 lead the Cardinals had built up. Thankfully the offense was able to put up 3 additional runs for the 7-4 victory.

Tuesday was Matthew Liberatore and he was solid until the 5th, when he gave up back to back homeruns after issuing back to back walks to begin the inning. Liberatore got thru the inning but the 4-0 deficit was too much for the offense to overcome as the Cards lost 5-1.

Wednesday saw Jack Flaherty make his debut return and it was ugly. Flaherty wasn't hit hard, but the Marlins blooped one hit after another in route to an 8-3 win. Flaherty got thru 6 innings and struck out 7.

The Cardinals and Giants will take part in a 3 game series for the weekend. They will play Thursday at Rickwood Field in a Negro Leagues tribute game.

The Texas Rangers Open up defense of their first ever World Championship. I am currently just starting the month of June and sit at 33-31. I am tied for 2nd place 7.5 games behind the Astros. We do however hold a Wild Card Spot. Its been an up and down start so far. Degrom, Eovaldi, and Scherzer have led the way in pitching but the others have been a hit and miss and our pen aside from Sborz and Leclerc is a mess. Seagar is on a tear with 18HR's already. Around the league Soto was hurt for 2 months and the Dodgers don't look as good as everyone thought. Currently aside from the Astros the Braves look like real contenders. I will update as we approach the All Star game

A's split series with Rangers to remain up in season series

The Athletics haven't won many series thus far in 2024. They did however when their first against Texas in Arlington in April. The A's took that series, two games to one and just split their second series with the defending champions.

Game one saw a matchup between Paul Blackburn and Jacob DeGrom and Blackburn actually got the better of DeGrom. Blackburn ended up going seven innings while he gave up just one run. DeGrom went just four as he gave up four runs on five hits. All four runs came via Tyler Soderstrum's 7th and eighth homeruns of the year. Both were two run shots and they came in the first and fourth innings. Zach Jackson and Lucas Erceg backed up Blackburn's performance as neither allowed any runs as Erceg gathered his 9th save of the season.

The Rangers got to Alex Wood early and often in game two as they quickly racked him 10 hits and 7 runs in his measly three innings of work. Mason Miller and Mitch Spence shut out the Rangers the rest of the way and despite a decent comeback attempt, the Athletics fell just short, 7-5.

The teams traded homeruns in the third game. Josh Jung's came first, as he hit his ninth in the second inning for the Rangers to take the 1-0 lead. Zack Gelof then evened it up in the third with his seventh. That was followed in the fourth by Corey Seager's 14th which was eventually matched by Esteury Ruiz's second of the year in the seventh. The Athletics then broke the mold as they didn't allow any more from Texas while Seth Brown hit his sixth, a three run shot in the eighth to eventually give the Athletics the win, 5-2.

The final game ended with Texas evening the series at 2-2 as the Athletics had a hard time getting to Dane Dunning while Texas scored six against Ross Stripling. Matt Chapman did account for the A's only run with his first homerun since returning to the team.

The A's will now travel to Seattle for three against the Mariners (21-17/4th AL West).

                Blue Jays sweep Rockies

The Blue Jays had no problem to sweep the Rockies in a 3 games series, winning 16-1 on Friday, 7-0 on Saturday before finishing the sweep on Sunday with a 2-0 win, despite recording only 3 hits in the series finale.

Pitching continues to be dominant early in the season : Alek Manoah went 7.0 innings (1 ER, 2 BB, 4 SO) in the first game, Yusei Kikuchi went 7 shutout innings on Saturday while striking out 7 batters and walking 2 and Kevin Gausman (7.0 IP, 1 BB, 9 SO) earned his 4th victory in 4 starts on Sunday.

The Blue Jays (12-4) lead the AL East by 3.0 games over the Red Sox and will stay at home for a 3 games series against the Yankees (7-9).

Spring training has concluded for the 2025 Blue Jays, and they end the Grapefruit League schedule with a record of 21-8. Among the standouts: David Shearer hit .341 in 91 at bats and even chipped in three homers. Pete Alonso hit .295, swatted 9 homers and drove in 21 runs. Paul Skenes finished up 4-0 with a 1.50 ERA. New closer Felix Bautista converted 12 of 13 saves and had an ERA of 0.57. New ace Corbin Burnes was 3-1 with a 2.89 ERA. Among the disappointments: Nate Pearson threw 13 innings and compiled a 7.62 ERA. Juan Soto was raking in the first half of the spring but cooled off near the end to finish the preseason with a .205 average. Soto will need to hit a lot better than that during regular play. With that, here is the official Opening Day roster for the 2025 Blue Jays.

Just finished Spring training with the Colorado Rockies. We played .500 ball, but it was about getting some looks at fringe players and seeing what we have on the roster.

And there were a couple of surprises.

Rookie and 64th ranked Prospect Drew Romo beat out Jake Stallings for the backup catcher position after batting .329 and being pretty solid behind the plate.

Noah Davis 3.03 ERA (changed his windup to Gausman bcos I love that windup lol) locked down the 4th spot in the rotation after going undefeated in 3 starts with some good stuff all spring long.

We start off the season in Arizona who are suddenly looking pretty loaded after coming from nowhere to reach the Word Series in 2023.

                          Game 1

Colorado Rockies 3 def Arizona Diamondbacks 2

                          WP: C. Quantrill 7.0 4H 1BB 4 SO
                          LP: Z. Gallen 7.0 4H 3BB 9SO

Player of the game Kike Hernadez 1-2 HR 2 RBI 2BB

A barnburner to start out the year. The snakes were up 2-0 in the 8th when they bought in Ryan Thompson from the bullpen to face the top of the order. He immediately walked Blackmon and Kike Hernandez then crushed the first pitch he saw over the LF wall to tie up the game.

Then into the 9th. Doyle blooped a ball over the 1B head for a hit, and stole 2nd. Doyle advanced to 3rd on a Montero shallow groundout to 2B 2-out. Then a regulation groundball to short from Bryant saw Perdomo scuff the throw and miss first, for doyle to score what would be the winning run on an error.

Hendriks came into the game and pitched a clean 9th for the Rockies opening day win.

                          Game 2

Colorado Rockies 6 def Arizona Diamondbacks 1

                          WP: M. German
                          LP: J. Montgomery

                          Player of game

                          SS - E. Tovar 3-4 1HR 3 RBI SB

                          Notes:
Drew Romo collected his first MLB hit with a single into RF. He also drew a walk and finished 1-2 with a run.

The rockies sprang out to a 6-nil lead after 3 innings and chased montgomery. The snakes would get a run back in the 6th, and load the bases with 1 out on a single, a walk and an IF single on a broken bat.

Wanting to shut the gate, the Rockies called out closer Liam Hendriks who struck out the side and ended the rally dead. The Rockies bullpen managed to pitch out the game despite giving up 5 hits over the last 3 innings.

Looking ahead - Plan is to play out the month and if playoffs are even remotely possible... we will look to possibly trade some of our 3rd rated MLB farm system for immediate help to bolster the bullpen and add another starter. Another bat in free agency is on the cards too.

33-games deep and the Tigers are 18-15.
Neat we started 5-1, same as the real club, which means we’re 13-14 since.

                            A quick vid.

Context: this is game three, after losing game one 18-9, game two 8-0, and oh-by-the-way we led this game 8-2. Pressure was palpable.

West Texas grabbed a 2-0 lead in the second on the Phelps two-run shot off of Russell Fluty. They would extend their lead to 5-0 in the fifth. Chase Ponder his a solo home run to open the inning. Alfonso Ryan lined an RBI single and Bobby Rayburn added a sac fly.

But the Bison would add a solo run in the bottom of the eighth on an Earl Phelps RBI single. Phelps finished 3 for 4 with the home run and three RBIs in the game.

Geraldo Parra (8-5) picked up the win, pitching six innings and allowing one run on two hits. He struck out five and walked two. Russell Fluty (3-10) took the loss, going five innings and allowing five runs on eight hits. He struck out seven.

On Saturday night, the Hops used the long ball, hitting three home runs to defeat the Bison 5-4. David Benitez went 3 for 4 with a home run and drove in a run to help the Hops break a four game losing streak.

It would remain tied into the seventh, when the Hops would break it open. Roberto Geronimo homered off of starter Chris Perez, his 19th on the year, to give Flagstaff a 2-1 lead. Bradley York would then come through with a big two-out RBI double that scored Art Mason. The Hops would increase their lead to 5-1 in the eighth on an Emmitt Hamton two-run home run, his 14th on the season.

But the Bison would rally off of Flagstaff's best reliever in 2024, Oliver Benedict. Benedict hit Manuel Hernandez and gave up a single to Chase Ponder. Padilla then doubled home both runners to cut the lead to 5-3. Vega then singled home Padilla with one out to cut it to 5-4 and end Benedict's outing. Aldo Osuna came on and struck out Alfonzo Ryan and got Henley to pop out to work out of the jam.

Vic Miller would come on in the ninth and sent the Bison down in order to pick up his 20th save. Geraldo Rodriguez (4-7) picked up the win, pitching a strong six innings and allowing just one run on six hits. He struck out three and did not walk a batter.

In the fifth, the Bison would get their first hit off of Ryan Pressley and it was a big one as Earl Phelps homered to right, his second of the series and 17th on the season to cut the Hops lead in half.

But the Hops would get an insurance run in the eighth as David Petrovski reached on a fielder's choice, allowing Bradley York to score the Hops third run.

The bullpen would then shut down the Bison as Oliver Benedict worked a 1-2-3 eighth and Vic Miller picked up his 21st save by striking out the side in the ninth.

Lowell Alan Pressley (5-10), the Bison's ace lost his tenth game on the year as the Bison fell back below .500 at (50-51).

The Chiefs are comfortably in front in the DL East as they are the clear cut favorites to repeat as champions in 2024.

All-Stars Albert Zambrano (27) and Enos Webb (17) each homered for Henderson in a 9-3 victory over rival Las Vegas at MGM Park on the Strip.
