Re: MLB The Show 24 Franchise Mode Discussion Thread

For those of you starting a new franchise to get through the winter, what rosters are you using?
I was hoping to find opening day rosters with full minors or nearly full but would like them to be based from a roster set a little further into the season so players like J.H. Lee and Rafaela get their plugged in MLB commentary and the announcers use the names associated with the players if that makes sense. Struggling to find a roster I like.

Re: MLB The Show 24 Franchise Mode Discussion Thread

First impression of the 2025 season: I think it is no suprise that the team that signed Soto is the hottest team in the league on offensive after 10 games. The suprising part is that the Jays managed that with him hitting .211 with 2HR and 5 RBI. Even more suprising it is another signing of the summer doing most of the work.

      .395, 8 HR, 14RBI, 40 total bases.

Carlos Santana arrived in Toronto with a bang. I don't think I ever had a hot start like that to a season.

The other suprising hero is 2nd base starter Spencer Horwitz, who is hitting .350 with 5 extra base hits and 1 HR.

The last interesting development is the 5th starter spot. That was Max Scherzers one to start the season who joined the Jays late before the season. But after 1 game it was clear that he lost his fast ball and everyone agreed it was better for him to step back. So out of nowhere Jake Bloss emerged, who joined the team the year before from Houston in the Kikuchi trade. In his first MLB start against the Orioles he pitched 7 innings, gave up 2 runs and managed to get 10 Ks. If he becomes a valuable piece in the rotation the Jays really did a great business move here.

His fellow rookie starter Joseph Santana didn't have that hot of a start. 2 stars, 11 Innings pitched and gave up 13 hits, 7 runs and 2 HR in those. He needed two games for the 10 strikeout of Bloss as well.

But it's still early and we need to see how it plays out with the 4th and 5th starting point. But Bieber, Berrios and Gausman is a very good 1 to 3, so it's not urgent to get someone new in.

So after beating the Astros and Tigers 2-1 and sweeping the Brewers in 3(scoring 27 runs through those games) now it's 1-0 in the 3 game series against the Orioles. If only the Yankees didn't start that hot as well(10-2) it would be a perfect start to the season. When Soto gets going, this team will be dangerous!

Cardinals finish June atop the NL Central

The Cardinals (53-31) finished the month of June leading the NL Central by 2 games over the Reds and 6 games clear of the Brewers. The Cardinals are playing pretty good baseball right now as a whole, and still aren't getting traditional production from Jordan Walker and Nolan Gorman. Both are hitting below .250 and both are severely lacking in the power department. Walker has 10 homeruns while Gorman has just 6. You have to wonder if their injuries last year are still lingering or worse yet, have deprived both men of their production at the dish that Cardinal fans had become accustomed to. There is also the Yordan Alvarez effect where he's having a sensational year and is taking the numbers, or worse yet has disrupted the chemistry the lineup had over the past few seasons. Whatever it may be, the Cards are hopeful it turns itself around starting in July and post all-star break.

Pitching is solid at the moment with the bullpen being more consistent than it has in the early part of the season. There is the occasional blowup, but for the most part the bullpen is holding its own, and closing out games when needed. The rotation has seen a struggling Walker Buehler put together solid back to back starts going 7 in each with less than 2 runs allowed. Louis Turnwall continues to expand upon his rookie of the year campaign, although his numbers aren't as impressive, mostly due to lack of offensive of production while on the mound.

The Cardinals will start scoping out the trade market as the deadline is just 30 days away and will also prepare for the draft with it being 2 weeks away.

CB I applaud your dedication to this game year in and year out. The Show is easily my favorite but I let my head get in the way too much and start over constantly.
That and I have a backlog of games I jump back and forth from.
But you're write ups are the main reason I'm on this site probably 4-5 times a week. Just to see how those Cardinals are doing in the virtual world.
I'll never understand how you find the time for every pitch of 162 and can get through a month in a week but bravo sir! If OS ever has shares in the stockmarket they should toss you 20%. I'm sure you help increase the traffic to this site a little bit.

Cardinals place Nolan Gorman on 10 Day IL

The Cardinals have placed 1B Nolan Gorman on the 10 Day IL with a bruised hand. Gorman suffered the injury in the series finale versus the Reds when he was hit by a pitch from Chase Burns. Thankfully nothing was broken and Gorman will return in the series right before the All-Star Break.

Gorman has struggled this year hitting just .229 with 6 homeruns and 29 RBIs despite batting 5th in the lineup. Gorman missed almost all the 2nd half of last year with an elbow injury and many are wondering if that has anything to do with his dip in performance, or could it possibly be that Gorman was a lock in the #3 spot prior to the signing of Yordan Alvarez. Or it could just possibly be a bad year.

The Cardinals haven't announced a corresponding move, but its likely they recall Alec Burleson from Memphis.

              2025 Chicago Cubs 06/20-06/22

              Overall Record:53-25 (1st NL Central/9.5 over Milwaukee)

              Game Results:

              Game 1
              Orioles-9
              Cubs-3

              Game 2
              Cubs-8
              Orioles-7

              Game 3
              Cubs-5
              Orioles-3

Baltimore's new additions add to powerful lineup

Just before the series with the Cubs, Baltimore added two middle infielders via a trade with the Pirates. The Orioles got 2B Matt Mclain and SS Liover Peguero from Pittsburgh while they did give up possibley their top starter, Kyle Bradish. Did Baltimore need more middle infield? Thats definitely questionable but they did get two solid players in Mclain and Peguero. Mclain has jumped into the starting 2B role over other youngsters, Colt Keith and Connor Norby. Peguero looks to be the starter versus LHP while Gunnar Henderson handles SS against righties.

Game one wasnt pretty for last years NL Rookie of the year Shota Imanaga. The usual dominate second year pitcher was hit and hit deep. In his 4.2 innings, Imanaga gave up four homeruns. Two of which were to Gunnar Henderson (6,7) ,one was to the newly added Liover Peguero (1) and the last was to JD Martinez (23). In total, Imanaga gave up seven runs and left the game with Chicago down 7-0. Then, another usual dominate pitcher replaces Imanaga and was treated just the same. He quickly gave up another homerun to Henderson for his third of the game (8) and finally, he also gave up one to Jake Burger (5) as after five, Baltimore led 9-0.

The Cubs got a few back in the later innings but never had a chance to win it as they lost, 9-3.

Baltimore started off hot again in game two against Justin Steele. Burger got into the action again as he took Steele deep in the second inning to make it 1-0.

Chicago then got their first homer of the series when Christopher Morel added one of his own for his 19th on the year and 100th of his career. Hopefully that can get him going as he had been sitting on 99 for a few series.

From there, Chicago really took charge and at one point led, 8-2. The Orioles were able to make it close however as they scored five in the ninth but luckily, Tanner Scott was able to come in and get the save (17).

The Cubs then went on to win game three, 5-3 and the series, 2-1.

Chicago will stay at home as they welcome Milwaukee (43-34) to town to try to extend their divisional lead. Milwaukee did beat Chicago in a series in Wisconsin exactly a week ago.

                Hi All,
I am running a franchise now that I'm enjoying- but was thinking of starting a second with 2025 rosters in a week or so after the winter meetings and had a couple questions

                1. I am noticing that players have their IRL 2024 stats in the game on new rosters- is there a work around- if not, will it show 2024 twice or will it always be a year off (this kind of kills the immersion for me)

                2. If I started now in Spring training would the CPU teams do a signing frenzy of the top free agents, or would they be left on the market into the season

                  1) I can't answer this one as I've never started a new franchise this late with the most up to date rosters.

                  2) I can almost guarantee (99.9% certainty) that the CPU will leave those players on the market. They will only typically sign catchers throughout the year to fulfill roster minimum requirements.

                    1. Yeah if you start a new franchise now, there will be two 2024 stat lines. its annoying.

                    2. CB is right, the free agents will sit there until the 2025 off season in your franchise. if you do 30 team control, you can sign them to teams yourself.

Re: MLB The Show 24 Franchise Mode Discussion Thread

I've done some Googling and looking around and can't seem to find any legit answer. I'm playing MLB 18 the Show (I really enjoyed the Rosters back then) and run a 30 Team Franchise mode where everything is set to Manual.

Free Agents, Contracts, Rosters, etc etc

But as my Season goes on I started noticing the Assistant GM started making moves like sending and calling players down and up for performance issues and what not. I've had to call players up just to fix my rosters.

Everything is set to Manual yet the CPU is making moves?

During Times when I play games and when i select lineups I'll get a message saying Player A is really tired and could use a break, you should consider switching him.

Or Pitcher A has struggled with a 6.87 ERA and you should consider someone from the Bullpen etc etc

I would usually hit AUTO assuming the CPU would make a switch with tired player to the bench for a subsitute. Or a Pitcher out of the Pen for a SPOT START.

Is it when I hit Auto, the Assistant GM make stupid moves and send players down or up?

Do I have to manually select players off the bench and Bullpen for subsitute?

                      Anyone know? Thank you.

Cubs suffer first big injury but extend divisional lead

The Cubs have been pretty fortunate the last season and half in regards to injuries. That all changed in game three against Milwaukee. Shota Imanaga had been struggling as of late but still led the league in strikeouts and has been overall really good. He was lost after just five pitches into the third game of the series. After that fifth pitch, Imanga was seen on the mound clutching his left pitching hand and was removed from the game. After the game, the Cubs learned that he broke his hand.

The game was a loss for Chicago despite the efforts of Cody Bellinger and Alexander Canario who were responsible for all four of the Cubs runs. The pair combined for a single and a homerun in both the 5th and 7th innings to at the time, tie it at 4-4. Ty France hit his second homerun in the top of the 8th to give the lead back to Brewers at 5-4. That homerun was France's second of the game and 14th on the year. That lead held up as Milwaukee avoided the sweep.

Imanaga is expected to miss 1-2 months and has been placed on the 15 day IL. Ben Brown was recalled to take his spot on the roster. Daniel Palencia will jump into the rotation.

The Cubs will now hit the road for their last series of June 2025 with four in Pittsburgh (42-39/4th NL Central).

Cardinals enter All-Star Break with half game lead on Reds

The Cardinals (62-35) have entered the All-Star Break with a half game lead on the Reds in the NL Central. The Brewers are 9.5 back while the Pirates and Cubs are both 11+ out.

The Cardinals continue to play solid baseball as they just finished winning a series against the Cubs prior to the break. The Cardinals are focusing on signing their draft picks and searching the trade market for upgrades to either the big league roster, or add some depth at needed positions for the future.

The primary focus will likely be the bullpen. While its been better as of late, the Cardinals wouldn't mind having another consistent arm, or two, in the bullpen as we head down the stretch. Their counterparts, the Reds, have made a few moves already.

Cardinals send 4 to the All-Star Game

The Cardinals will have 4 representatives in the mid-summer classic this year in San Francisco. The Cardinals will be sending:

OF/DH Yordan Alvarez (leading vote getter)
SP Gerritt Cole (first since 2025)
SP Louis Turnwall (last year rookie of the year and now an allstar at 22 years old)
CP Ryan Helsley (seems to be lock each year)
I can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.

I miss the old days of Operation Sports :(

Cubs end June with 3-1 series win over Pirates

The Cubs end June as the best team in baseball (58-27) with the second best also being in the NL, the Atlanta Braves (55-29). The Cubs got three of those wins in their month ending four game series versus the Central's 4th place team, the Pittsburgh Pirates.

As usual, the games were mostly close but the Cubs were able to come out on top in three of the four. They won games 1-3 by the scores of 6-3,3-1 and 2-1. Game three was won in extra innings after Nico Hoerner hit an rbi single in the top half of the inning and Hector Nerris stayed in for a second inning of work to hold the Pirates scoreless.

Game 4 also looked to go into extra innings as the two teams entered the bottom half tied at 2-2. Like Nerris the game before, the Cubs other setup pitcher, Carl Edwards Jr. was set to finish his second inning of work. That all came to an end however when Jack Suwinski took Edwards deep to walk it off 3-2. The win kept the Pirates from being swept and keeps them one game above .500 (43-42).

The Cubs will now have a day off before they enter July and travel to Boston to take on the Red Sox (38-48/4th AL East) to start the new month.
