Cardinals add bullpen depth by signing Will Vest and Tyler Horton

The Cardinals bolstered their bullpen with a pair of signings.

The Cardinals signed RHP Will Vest to a 3 year/$15MM deal. Vest saved 41 games for the Marlins a season ago, but that will not be his role with the Cardinals. Vest will be the 7th inning bridge to get the ball to Jordan Hicks and then Ryan Helsley.

LHP Tyler Horton signed a one year $4.5MM deal. Horton struggled last year with the Tigers, posting a 6.32 ERA and a WHIP over 1.50. Left handed relief help is scarce this winter, so the Cardinals are hopeful that Horton can bounce back to pre-2028 numbers with a change of scenery.

The Cardinals are still searching the starting pitching market for help.

Cardinals sign Gerritt Cole to one year deal

As the offseason winds down, and with Spring Training right around the corner, the Cardinals have signed RHP Gerritt Cole to a one year $10MM deal.

Cole had a good season last year with the Yankees posting a 9-6 record with 183.2 innings pitched and an ERA of 3.92.

it was surprising the veteran lasted this long, but the Cardinals are willing to give him a shot to help a rotation that struggled last year.

Cardinals head to Spring Training with an optimistic outlook on 2029 season

The Cardinals are heading to Florida with an optimistic outlook on the 2029 season. After missing the postseason the past two years, the Cardinals made some additions this winter they feel will get them over the hump and back to playing October baseball.

The biggest change is the hiring of Bruce Bochy. The 73-year-old will look to get the Cardinals back to October and in search of their 12th World Series Championship. The other big addition was OF/DH Yordan Alvarez. The Cards needed more pop on the lineup and him being added to the likes of Nolan Gorman and Jordan Walker, and the Cardinals should have some big pop in the middle of the lineup.

Additions to the bullpen and the rotation and the Cardinals feel confident they can have a strong showing in the 2029 season.

2025 Chicago Cubs End Of April

                Overall Record:21-11 (1st NL Central/1.5 over Pittsburgh)

Game Results: (04/28-04/30 @ Los Angeles Dodgers)

                Game 1
                Dodgers-7
                Cubs-5

                Game 2
                Cubs-5
                Dodgers-2

                Game 3
                Cubs-5
                Dodgers-4

Cubs end April on 15-3 run

The Cubs had a bit a rough start to their campaign as the defending NL Champions. Through two weeks of games played, they were sitting at 6-8, Cincinnati was atop the Central and a lot of things weren't clicking for Chicago.

But then, they got things going and finished the first month of the season tied with the same teams they fought for the top record with last year, the Atlanta Braves and the Minnesota Twins. A team that is right behind those three is a bit of a surprise, the Los Angeles Angels currently lead the AL West with a record of 20-12.

Juan Soto has been everything the Cubs were hoping for when they signed him to that big contract in the offseason. He currently leads the team in average (.336) homeruns (13) and RBIs (26) he is also top ten in those three categories in the National League.

The Cubs other big signing, Tanner Scott has also been great he has completed 8 of his 9 save opportunities, has a 2.45 ERA and has struck out 16 batters in just 11 innings of work. His one blown save to come in the final game against the Dodgers but he ended up getting the win when the Cubs won it in the 10th inning.

To start May, the Cubs will return home where they will face off against the Blue Jays (19-11/1st AL East).

**P.S there was no Ohtani for the Dodgers... He is out 5-6 months with a MCL tear

                  2025 Chicago Cubs 05/02-05/04

                  Overall Record:23-12 (1st NL Central/2.5 over Pittsburgh)

                  Game Results

                  Game 1
                  Cubs-5
                  Blue Jays-3

                  Game 2
                  Blue Jays-3
                  Cubs-1

                  Game 3
                  Cubs-3
                  Blue Jays-2

Cubs keep it going, win series Vs. Toronto 2-1

It wasn't a good start for Jameson Taillon and the Cubs. Going against the current AL East leading Toronto Bluejays, Taillon got lit up a bit in the first inning. Isiah Kiner-Falefa got the Jays offense going with his one out single. That was followed by a Bo Bichette rbi double and then Vladimir Guerrero JR put the other two on the board with his eighth homerun of the season.

From their however, Taillon settled down and he and the bullpen arms (Caleb Kilian, Hector Neris and Carl Edwards JR) didn't allow another run. Meanwhile, the Cubs offense got going against Jose Berrios and company as they scored five to take the game 5-3.

Game two was dominated by Alek Manoah and his bullpen as they allowed just 5 hits and 1 run as the Blue Jays tied the series at one game each with the 3-1 victory.

Both teams scored in the 2nd inning of game three and both were via solo homeruns. Max Kepler hit his 8th against Javier Assad while Cody Bellinger hit his 5th off of Walker Buehler.

Toronto held a brief lead after they scored another run in the fourth inning, however, the Cubs answered back in the fifth to tie the game at 2. That score held until the 9th inning when Dansby Swanson laid down a great sacrifice bunt to score Juan Soto who had been hit by a pitcher earlier in the inning by Chris Bassitt.

The Cubs will now have a day off before San Francisco (19-16/2nd NL West) comes to town.

Cardinals finish Spring Training healthy and ready for Opening Day

The Cardinals finished Spring Training with a 16-14 record under first year manager Bruce Bochy. The Cardinals ended the session on a 3 game winning streak.

The Cardinals also went thru with no significant injuries and no one on the IL.

The Cards will open the 2029 season with a 4 game series in Los Angeles against the Dodgers.

Cardinals split opening 4 game series with Dodgers in LA

The Cardinals (2-2) split their 4 game series with the Dodgers in Los Angeles to start the 2029 season. The Cardinals lost Thursday and Friday, but won both games over the weekend to earn the split.

Tarik Skubal was brilliant on Opening Day allowing just one run on 3 hits in 7 innings of work, but the offense was shutout as the Dodgers beat the Cardinals 1-0.

Louis Turnwall, the reigning NL Rookie of the Year, started game 2 and was hit hard. Turnwall gave up 5 runs on 9 hits in just 5 innings of work. He did manage 7 strikeouts over those 5 innings. The Cardinals offense again was atrocious pushing across a single run in a 8-1 loss.

Saturday things got better. Walker Buehler dominated the Dodgers with 11 strikeouts over 7 innings allowing a single hit and no runs. He was pulled after 7 innings due to his pitch count at 119. The offense exploded for 8 runs which included Yordan Alvarez's first homerun as a Cardinal. He added 2 more RBIs on a double later. Zach Levenson who started over Chase Davis who was 0 for 7 in the series with 7 strikeouts, delivered a 3 for 3 night with 2 RBIs of his own. The Cardinals would win 8-1.

Sunday watched Max Fried struggle thru 5 but earn the win as the Cardinals outscored the Dodgers 8-5. Ryan Helsley notched his first save of the year striking out Shohei Ohtani, O'Neill Cruz, and Spencer Torkleson in order in the 9th. Zach Levenson and Yordan Alvarez struck again, each hitting a 2 run homerun. Nolan Gorman had a 3 hit night including a RBI double.

The Cardinals will stay out west as they will travel to San Diego for a 3 game series with the Padres.

Hey all - it's been a minute since I've been on this forum, so pardon the redundancy if this has already been addressed (as well as my username which is from before the team name change, lol)...

For years, The Show was the ONE game I would purchase every year and it's sadly gotten to the point I don't even play anymore. The primary reason I've soured on it (among many) is that as soon as I start a new franchise, I'm faced with numerous 18-20 year old free agents that are better than some of my current starters (70+ rating)... guys that I'd be stupid not to sign but hate signing because it immediately alters the realistic aspect of the game.

Is there a way around this? I was debating picking up TS24 as we enter the offseason but I just know I'm immediately going to be off-put by this, like I always am.

Another thought I've had and am currently thinking about once again as I debate picking up a copy of 24... has anybody ever suggested / heard from SDS/SIE that they'd consider making the start of the off-season a starting point? For so many of us that love to play Franchise mode, the off-season is actually our #1 opportunity to impact our rosters, so I know it'd be of interest. Plus, it could incentivize a second surge of sales around this time of year, so it'd be advantageous from that perspective as well.

Are they real players or some that SDS put in? I dont know I dont really pay attention when I start my franchise. If they are fake id say just edit them down. If they are real, its your choice sign them if you want or just ignore them. Im in year 2 of my franchise and the only players 70+ in FA are players 35+ years old who are declining.

Soto's walkoff gives Cubs eighth straight series win

The Cubs started their series Vs. the Giants with a five run first inning against Logan Webb who lasted just 2.2 innings giving up 8 hits and 8 runs.

The first inning runs came via a Josh Naylor rbi single and a Cody Bellinger grand slam (6th HR of season). Shota Imanaga was pretty good for the Cubs and was able to hold on to the lead after that point as he pitched the complete game, allowed 8 hits, 3 runs and struck out 8 as the Cubs won, 9-3.

Game two was a pitchers duel between Blake Snell (Giants) and Justin Steele (Cubs). Both went atleast seven innings with Snell outlasting Steele (7.2 to 7.0).

In the end, it would be the two runs that San Francisco got off of Steele in the seventh inning that would lead to the Giants 2-1 victory.

Game three saw the Cubs take a 3-1 lead into the ninth. Tanner Scott was unable to hold on to that lead as he blew his second save in a row. However, with that, Juan Soto was able to come up in the bottom half of the inning and hit a walk off homerun (14) to give the Cubs the 4-3 victory to take the series, 2-1.

The Cubs will now start a nine game road trip as they first head to California to take on the Padres (17-22/4th NL West).
