      Rockies Franchise: Year 3

The great Colorado turnaround is fully underway in year 3. With a couple of absolutely incredible months in June and July, reminiscent of the 2007 Rocktober run, the Rockies have powered their way to #1 in the NL West, with a 7.5 game lead over both the Dodgers and Padres.

When it comes to the first 10 games of August though, things haven't been as swell, winning just twice. The main issue seems to be with their pitching, which was a strength to this point, but is now giving up homeruns at at ridiculous clip.

Fun notes so far from this season:
-Jazz Chisholm, acquired at last years deadline, leads the NL in WAR.
-Nolan Jones, who led the majors in HR's last year, continues to pound the ball, but has seen his solid .280 batting average from last season drop below .250 so far.
-Sophomore starter Chase Dollander has excelled at limiting hits, sitting 5th in the NL in K's, but his walk rate of 4.05/9 continues to hold him back.
-Kevin Gausman, acquired at last years deadline, is having a solid bounce back season, sitting 3rd in the NL Cy Young race.

Not so fun, but hilariously entertaining:
-After sitting on the open market for a long time prior to year 2, Blake Snell was signed to a 6 year deal by the Rockies. Year 1 went great, starting 21 games (Missed a month and a half due to injury), and putting up a sub-3 ERA. This year though? Snell's ERA has hovered around 5, and he's allowed the most HR's in the majors. The contract looks questionable at best.
-Kris Bryant, who put up solid numbers against lefties in the first 2 years, struggled over the first 2 months of this season, hitting below the Mendoza line, before being released. He ended up signing with the Cubs, where he continues to struggle.

What's going on outside the NL West?

The Cincinnati Reds. The Reds have absolutely loaded up their roster, boasting one of the best rotations in the league, and look poised to win the NL Central for the first time since 2012, and return to the playoffs for the first time since 2020.

The tightest division in the majors, the AL East, looks to be a fun race to follow for the rest of the season. 1 game separates the division leading Yankees from the Jays and O's. The Yankees made a huge splash at the deadline, acquring Zac Gallen from the D'Backs, while the Jays bolstered their bullpen.

The AL West is currently being paced by the Angels, but the biggest story is the fall from glory for the Houston Astros. The Astros have the worst record in baseball, and are on pace for 105 losses.

This is great I love that someone did a rockies franchise. I started with them and then switched. Sometimes, I wish i didn't switch!

Keep it rolling I'll be checking it out.

It's a ton of fun. I know that there's a ton of us that end up in the "Oh no, I just did something unrealistic and now I regret it, so I'm going to start over..." camp, and with the Rockies, nothing makes me feel that way.

I mentioned this is another thread, but the Jazz Chisholm trade is one of the things that has kept me going in this franchise...I typically avoid blockbusters in this game because it always ends up making me feel like I cheated the CPU, but in this one, I intentionally overpaid, and the four youngsters that I moved have all had significant impacts in the Marlins org so far. Let's just say that they did better from me than they did in real life from the Yankees!

I do the same thing. It helps in real life that Miami ended up trading jazz anyway.

The Mariners have signed likely the most sought after free agent on the market. The M's signed Vlad Guerrero Jr to a 9 year $232M contract. Vlad hit .292 last year with 41 homeruns and 109 RBIs. The Mariners will now build their roster around Vlad as they look to build upon their postseason success this past season.

Games 1 and 2 of the ALCs are complete.

Game 1 was a pitchers dual between Bieber and Cole. Cole came out in the 9th with a 1 run lead and Juan Soto walked it off for a 2-1 win

Game 2 saw another Ranger comeback as Soto once again put the Rangers up 5-4 with a 3 run HR in the bottom of the 7th. The Ranger Bullpen however gave the lead up in the top of the 8th as they imploded by giving up 6 runs. Rangers lost 10-5.

Series tied 1-1 as we head off to New York. Brock Porter will take the mound

NLCS has the Diamond Backs up 2-1 on the Braves

As a Jays fan, this is absolutely heartbreaking, but it's actually ridiculously realistic. If (when?!?!?!) he doesn't re-sign with the Jays, I absolutely see them snagging him

                      2026 Offseason Wrap-Up

The 2026 offseason has come to an end with the Cardinals adding some new faces to the roster, primarily in the bullpen.

They also made some surprise re-signings (Tommy Edman & Ryan Helsley) and kept the core of a team that won 90 games last year and was 3 outs away from winning the World Series in tact.

                      Additions:

                      RHP Jonathan Losaisaga (1yr)
                      LHP Will Smith (1 yr)

                      [u[Departures:[/u]

                      OF Jose Azocar (A's)
                      C Elias Diaz (Marlins)

                      Notable re-signings

                      SS Tommy Edman (1yr)
                      RHP Ryan Helsley (1yr)
                      RHP Shelby Miller (1yr)
                      RHP Andrew Kittredge (1yr)

That was about the extent of excitement for the Cardinals this offseason. They felt they had a strong core in place and just wanted to essentially add depth to it. Resigning Edman was a huge surprise as everyone figured it would be Masyn Winn as the everyday starter as SS or they would move Brendan Donovan and slide Winn to 2nd base. But based on Winn's injury history (and Donovan's for that matter) the Cards decided to bring back the gold glove SS for a single year to see if they couldn't put together another Division winning season and postseason run that gets them to the Fall Classic.

Ryan Helsley was another surprise, as many thought he would bolt after his Game 7 blow up that lost the World Series, and fans reaction, but he decided to return on a one year deal with a player option for next year. Helsley will be on a tight leash, at least from the fans perspective.

                      Notable Faces in New Places

Here are some notable faces that will be wearing new uniforms in the 2026 season:

1B/DH Vlad Guerrero Jr - Mariners
                      C Will Smith - Giants
                      SS Bo Bichette - Giants
                      OF Kyle Schwarber - Marlins
                      RHP Dylan Cease - Brewers
                      RHP Zac Gallen - Angels
                      LHP Andrew Chafin - Pirates
3B/OF Kris Bryant - Dodgers (trade)
                      2B Marcus Siemiens - Giants

That is all I can think of off the top of my head, but there were more.

Cardinals take only 1 of 3 from the Blue Jays and with 13 games left in the season, they hold a 5 game lead over the Cubs and 8 game lead over the Brewers.

The Cardinals will head home to take on the Pirates in a 4 game series and the Cubs will welcome the A's for a 3 game series.

                          Cardinals 2026 Season Outlook

The Cardinals head into the 2026 after a heartbreaking loss in the World Series last year. The Cardinals were 3 outs away from their 12th World Series championship after coming back from a 3-0 series deficit. The carryover seemed to effect Spring Training as the Cardinals were 13-17 and were shutout a whopping 8 times over the Spring.

But the season is a marathon and not a sprint. So the Cardinals have time to regroup, re-focus, and set their sights on repeating as NL Central Division Champs and repeat winning the NL Pennant. They have the same core in tact they did last year. The Opening Day lineup is presumed to be the same lineup they trotted out in Game 7, and all 7 games, of the World Series. Their pitching rotation is the same minus Lucas Giolito and the bullpen is the same minus Andrew Kittredge (minors) and Genesis Cabrera (Astros). But they added to the bullpen some strong pieces in LHP Will Smith and RHP Jonathan Losasiga.

They have better depth in the minors with alot of rookies ready to make the jump the big league level and contribute. In fact, Zach Levenson (#18 prospect) has made the 26 man roster. Louis Turnwall, JJ Wanderholt, Thomas Saggese, Brycen Mautz, Cooper Hjerpe, Leonardo Bernall, and Chase Davis are all ready to make that jump.

The Cardinals have the pieces in place to repeat. They have the pieces to make trades in July if needed to repeat. The question will be can they get over what happened last year and focus on repeating the positives instead of dwelling on the negatives of the 2025 season.

Opening Day is upon us, guess we'll find out soon enough.

GO CARDS!!!! I believe in you to get us that 12th Championship

Cubs secure huge 4 game sweep of Cardinals

The Cardinals have hung around all season and at times have really threatened the Cubs spot atop the NL Central. Coming into their final series of 2024, the Cubs led the season series, 6-3 and after the sweep, they win it 10-3.

Game two was the closet which saw Dansby Swanson hit his 22nd and 23rd homeruns. The 23rd was a walkoff with two outs in the bottom of the 9th off of St. Louis' Ryan Fernandez who just missed a perfect two inning relief appearance.

Games three and four ended in the same result, 4-0 victories for the Cubs. Both starting pithers, Jordan Wicks and Jameson Taillon were good but Taillon's game four performance stood out as he pitched his second complete game shutout. Patrick Wisdom also broke out of his homerun slump in the game when he hit his 41st in the 5th inning.

That homer was Wisdom's first since the all star break. Going into the break he was averaging one HR per 8.8 at bats. It had been 51 since his homer in this game.

The Cubs now lead the Cardinals by 9.5 games which isnt out of reach but it is getting there. The Cards do still hold the #2 spot in the NL wild card race.

The Cubs will now welcome the Twins (76-35/1st AL Central) to town. Minnesota recently surpassed Atlanta and have the best record in the MLB.
