Mets Drop 2 of 3 Against Brewers To Open Season

Things did not go as planned for the Mets at home opening weekend as they welcomed in the Milwaukee Brewers

The first game of the series looked like we might have some history as the Mets Kodai Senga had a no hitter through 7 innings before giving up a hit in the 8th. however, on the other side of things Freddy Peralta has a 2-hit shutout going as well into the 8th. With two outs in the bottom of the 8th Peralta would make his one and only mistake a hanging slider that Brandon Nimmo would drive for a HR and the 1-0 lead. It would get dicey in the 9th as Edwin Diaz in his first save chance in over a year would allow the first two men on before getting out of the jam giving the Mets a 1-0 win. Senga who got the win was brilliant with 8 innings, 1 hit and 11 strikeouts.

The good news kind of ends there for the Mets. Gave two would see the Brewers knocking Quintana around for 8 hits and 2 runs in the first 3 innings. For a moment the Mets magic returned is in the bottom of the 3rd they would take Woodruff deep back-to-back with Mark Vientos and Harrison Bader to tie it at 3. However, Quintana continued to be a mess lasting only 5.1 giving up 12 hits and 6 runs. And Woodruff settled in and would not allow another hit the rest of the game and the Mets would drop game two 6-2. the Brewers had 17 hits in the game, 4 by Yelich, 3 from Contreras and Hoskins, and two from rookie Jackson Chourio and Andruw Monasterio.

The rubber match of the series saw the debut of Luis Severino for the Mets. Severino was strong going 6 innings allowing only 3 hits while striking out 6 and the lone run he allowed was a solo home run to Christian Yelich. The bad news one again was the Mets bats failed to show up and between Brewers starter Jake Junis, Wade Miley, Joel Payamps, and closer Devin Williams they combined for an 8 hit shutout and the Mets dropped their second straight 3-0

      New and Notes
Brett Baty trying to show he belongs is off to a rough start going 0 for 7 at the plate ss far with 5 strikeouts.

      Around the Horn
Juan Soto in his walk year has a broken ankle for the Yankees and will miss some time.

Only one team opened the season with a sweep and that was the defending champs the Texas Rangers who are 3-0. That also means the Cubs are 0-3

Have any of you guys noticed the day game scheduling issue being back??? Apparently several teams have mostly just day games like a few years ago? This is a franchise killer imo

Yep, it's back. White Sox, Guardians, Diamondbacks, and Astros are the teams I've found so far. My hype for this game has fallen to near 0 because of it. They never fixed it in 21 so I wouldn't count on it being addressed this time either.

Some teams (Astros, D'Backs, and ChiSox I believe) are playing a considerate amount of day home games during their schedule, primarily during the week when you would suspect the ratio to favor night games, except on getaway days.
I can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.

I miss the old days of Operation Sports :(

It was in 21. Certain teams, only a handful, in franchise only have day games. In 21 they all had 1pm start times. It seems a little better now because they throw a few 4,5,and 6pm start times in there. But you still don’t get true night games with those times. Most of them don’t seem to have start times after 6pm. Now, full disclaimer, I don’t have the game yet. This is what I’ve pieced together from watching videos and streams. So I haven’t seen full schedules. But the teams it’s effected that I’ve found so far are the Whote Sox, Guardians, Diamondbacks, and Astros. If someone with a test franchise going wants to check it and see for sure that would be cool.

It never got fixed or even acknowledged in 21.

I'm not sure what I'm missing. I just looked at the D'Backs and Astros schedules and while there are some day games that I would expect to be night games, this doesn't look like anything close to what we saw in '21.

Hopefully you aren’t missing anything. I had t got to look at the entire schedule so I wasn’t sure if it was as bad or not. So if it isn’t then that’s good news and hopefully just me overreacting.

Nah I checked. There is what looks like an even amount of splits between night and day games. I think it's a non issue.

Pirates Lose Two of Three in DC

It's only been two series but the same things keep happening. Pittsburgh either has hot bats and the pitching can't hold the lead or the bats go cold and pitching keeps it close but don't get enough help.

Pittsburgh scored quickly with Michael A. Taylor getting a fielders choice RBI and Peguero added an RBI double. But immediately in the bottom of the inning Victor Robles went deep with a 2 run homerun, his 1st of the season. O'Neil Cruz has been slow to start the season but helped Pittsburgh regain the lead with an RBI triple in the 4th off Patrick Corbin, but again Pittsburgh couldn't hold the lead for long as Joey Meneses helped Washington regain the lead. In the top of the 9th, Washington lead 4-3 with 1 out and O'Neil Cruz walked. Bryan Reynolds came up to bat and hits what should have been a game tying double. There's just one small problem. Cruz was tagged out at 1st leaning too far one pitch prior, so instead it was just a double for Reynolds with no one to drive in. McCutchen proceeds to end the game with a long fly ball out. Nats win 4-3. A heartbreaking loss for The Buccos.

Pittsburgh returned the next day with a strong game from the lineup. Jack Suwinski hit a homerun (2) as well as Nick Gonzales and Ke'Bryan Hayes had 2 RBI each. Mitch Keller pitched 6 solid innings, striking out 3, but errors by Cruz (3) and normally sure handed Reynolds(1) allowed Washington to hang around. Going into the bottom of the 8th The Pirates were up 5-4 with Aroldis Chapman on the mound. After getting the first 2 outs, he imploded. C.J Abrams hit a 3 run homerun (2) to seal the game and Washington continued its hot start to the early season.

Thankfully for Pittsburgh the final game of the series was a much needed smooth result. Bryan Reynolds was 2 for 4 with a homerun (1). The Pirates then tacked on 4 more in the 7th on MacKenzie Gore and Tanner Rainey who combined to allow 4 hits and 4 walks in the inning. Bailey Falter meanwhile, did not faulter. He went 6 innings for Pittsburgh allowing only 1 run on 2 hits. The Pirates avoided the sweep in the nations capital and gave Washington (5-1) it's first loss on the season. Pittsburgh (2-5) get to enjoy the home opener Friday against John Means and the red hot Orioles.
