Taking my Mariners season as an example: 16 games in and we can already tell that we need a bench upgrade. Would a team make a small trade already at that point usually? I looked through some transaction log over the years and it looks like the season really starts in May in that department.

And I know it's a game and I can play as I would like it. But I still try to make it as realistic as possible and not trying to "trick the system" by abusing the power I have over the AI GMs.

For guys I could target I need to crunch the ratings a bit more: I saw that the Diamondbacks added Pavin Smith to the trade block in my save and that guy would probably be my best bench piece directly and I really need a backup outfielder.

I always struggle with this as well. Want to make moves that I think would help the team I follow, but always feel unrealistic if I’m not following the real life club. The struggle is real :X

I was thinking of picking up a guy like Stone Garrett on the nationals. DFA in real life, good power against lefties and would be a good bench addition for me. Likely wouldn’t cost list considering the league could have had him for free.

I had Stone Garrett last year in my Blue Jays save and he played like a MVP-level player for me. I was so suprised when checking his real life stats later that he is nothing close to a real MLB regular.

Maybe we should tattoo "it's just a game" on the back of our hands?

For sure. At the end of the day it all depends on what you want. I actually do not play my rebuilds that realistically because it takes too long and I tend to play just about every game. As for your Stone Garrett quip, there was a stretch (maybe 2021-2023) where I would pick up Garrett Hampson each year because for whatever reason that man was always killing it for me.

Garrett Hampson against lefties in the '23 version of this game was like having Ichiro out there...guy could absolutely racccckkk the hits up!

I definitely feel a bit more justified in making trades once late-May/Early June hits, because it gives me time to actually assess the roster of the team that I'm using, instead of simply identifying holes by looking at player ratings. There are some guys that have low attributes that I'll absolutely rake with (35 bombs with Harold Castro in my Rockies franchise in '23), and others that have high attributes that I can even make contact with (Bo Bichette...).

At the same time though, I think being aggressive on the trade market in early May *should* be a thing that real-life teams are doing. I remember a lot of my beloved real-life Jays seasons where the holes are absolutely clear early in the season, and the team just sticks with it until the deadline, then has to struggle to get into a wildcard game.

My only suggestion would be to not get too trade-happy. I find that a drastic roster overhaul early on is usually what pushes me into starting a new franchise. "Well, it's mid April and I've traded a bunch of players for prospects...all of the rebuild work is done..."

As someone who hasn't followed baseball closely since the Tejada days with the Orioles and even then was probably a casual, even I can tell this trade logic is bad.

I just made this trade and I know it is the most ridiculous trade but I feel no shame.

            Orioles get
            -Jackson Jobe

            Tigers get
            -Grayson Rodriguez

Okay I do feel a little bit of shame, but not enough to prevent me from making it

Was looking at the trade block in my franchise and the Reds have Candelario available. Would be a good fit to give the Jays a bat to hit after Santander. What would his cost be and would the Reds consider dealing him. I know they have a ton of infielders.

              Thanks!

Negative WAR player last year that's owed around $29 mil between this year and next (Not sure if the option is included in the contract in game?).

Kind of depends on where the Reds are standing in your franchise, and his production in season. I wouldn't just roll with what players are on the block, because it all has to do with overall rating/depth chart.

In my humble opinion, there are a few different scenarios...

-If he's playing well, and they're in the playoff race: They shouldn't move him.
-If he's playing well and they're not in the race: probably an "ok" prospect (low end, but not bad), and some random prospect.
-If he's playing poorly and they're not in the race: Just give them some magic beans, they should be happy to clear that salary off of the books.

I’m currently fighting with the Phillies in my Mets franchise for the NL East crown. I lost Nimmo for the year and am looking for a LF, and MAYBE a SP. Currently the rotation has been fine though, and I have McNeil in LF with a platoon of Acuna/Mauricio.

The guys I keep going to are Evan Carter, Josh Smith and Conforto based on who’s on the block.

I can get smith or Carter for megill. And I can get Conforto straight up for mcneil.

What would be realistic packages for them? Both rangers and dodgers are in first. Rangers are looking for SP though based on underperformance, regression etc

Re: MLB The Show 25 - Trade Discussion Thread

Here's one to stir the pot.

Bobby Miller has a ~2.6 ERA in AAA for LAD. However, he's like the 11th pitcher in a stacked system that barring injury is blocked for the next 5+ years. The dodgers don't have the luxury of him figuring it out in the majors, and I worry he'll rot in their farm until out of options and DFA'd

What could they want in a trade?

I'm on 30-team control so I had a few ideas.

                    1. Bobby Miller (+) for Luis Robert Jr. as a starting point.
                    - Only issue I see here is that with as bad as the sox are, I'd say they want something more proven or not yet on the 40-man. Dodgers have received such bad production from their outfielders and Lou Bob is hitting well and been healthy, so this would make some sense on their end. However, the dodgers already have so many multi year deals that this could hamper them more.

                    2. Bobby Miller to the Jays for Bo Bichette.
                    - I think this could probably be straight up? Mookie has been a good SS for LA this season, but their outfield has been atrocious. This could allow for him to move back to the OF and start Bo at SS. Bo is a rental but has returned to form with his bat after how bad last season was. I figure the Jays have room to let Miller figure it out in the rotation.

                    3. I'm playing as the Nats. I'd love to add Miller, but IDK if I have the "win now" talent to add him. The only two weak areas for the Dodgers have been OF and 2B. My thought was to send Amed Rosario who plays both 2B and OF has been hitting well this season in addition to a top 100 pitching prospect to LA for Miller. It wouldn't be the first time LA has traded a AAA pitcher for Rosario mid-season (though that was more of a fringe guy) but I figure I need to add something fairly substantial on my end despite Miller being blocked. My thought with the top 40 SP is that someone further away gives the Dodgers more time for development in the minors since Miller is already burning options and will eventually be worthless to them with the way their rotation is built.

Any other fun ideas for a miller trade to help the Dodgers win are welcome too.

It's still there. Just click on the player you either want to trade for, or trade away, and click the square button and the options will pop up. This thread is more of an attempt to help keep things "fair" for 30 team control guys.

                              My thoughts:

                              1) Michael Grove+Bobby Miller for Robert could make sense? Every time the Dodgers add a player though, my first thought is "Who the heck are they getting rid of?". In video game form, I guess it's one of Pages (Think he still has options?), Taylor or Comforto (who they literally just signed and would have to be DFA'd). It's an upgrade on any of those guys though, so I do think it makes sense, especially if the Dodgers run into injury issues.

                              2) At this point, if the only option for the Jays in a Bichette trade is selling low to get a guy that got absolutely lit up last year, then I'm probably holding onto him in the hopes of making a run. I just don't think the Jays can afford to sign Vladdy and immediately turn around and sell off their 2nd best hitter for a big question mark. The value difference between the compensatory pick that they'll get from qualifying Bichette, and acquiring Miller just isn't far enough apart to pull the plug entirely I'm probably in the minority with the "sell off" thing though. (signed, a biased Jays fan).

                              3) I think this one kind of goes back to #1...if the Dodgers are acquiring Rosario again, who gets booted off of the roster? Rosario and an Ok prospect that's a couple of years away from having to be added to the 40 man could probably make sense though,
