Re: MLB The Show 25 Early Impressions

After replacing the old hdmi cable I was using for the PS5 pro (duh).

Game colors pop and it is really smooth. I’ve always wanted the color palette to take a jump, and it has. Quite pleased as it really gives a newness to the game.

    Player physics look much better.

    Game play still stellar.

The pink in the interface is gone. This much more professional looking.

The CAP faces in this roster far better than the ones last year (exploding cheeks)

Now….the circle under the fielder on auto field/manual throw. I sent bug reports last year thinking it was just that. Now it’s clear that they think gamers can’t tell who has the ball after it’s auto fielded. BAD design, arcade. 20’s clean screen….ah.

The bullpen. BAD design, sorry. Every bit of presentation needs to be in.

The stadium vault should have never been useless for people who paid to get the game early. I hate the word ‘broken’, but it is.

Same goes for NO new props in the stadium creator. Sorry, saying it will get fixed on release date doesn’t cut it……the release date was a couple days ago. If…if there are no new props the stadium creator is DOA.

The CAP faces in the player editor…..not updated. It holds back this game being truly stunning IMHO. Nicely scanned faces then what they give you.

Overall I’m pleased, been a fan for years but, for me, presentation, presentation, presentation. The too quick home run distant marker and, ugh, that same old mound visit. I guess I just expected this to be the “final product” after all these years. Hoping I’d go, “yeah!”. Instead just more questions.

That is awesome. I wish they would let you pick more than one storyline. I love and I thought of you when I saw the starting pitcher summary every game. Usually happens after the 4th inning. One time I saw it after 5 innings. Glad that is every game. I enjoy they brought back the schedule for the next 10 games.

When they do the schedule, they use a generic line of here is the schedule ahead. I wish they would expand and have them say “they are heading to Chicago after this game” or something. And maybe show the records of the teams ahead. But it is a good start.

Sadly, they still talk about the Allstar game in Cleveland. And the trivia question about the first HR and triple. They could have removed that.

Re: MLB The Show 25 Early Impressions

Cannot believe I dropped 100 again to play early thinking maybe this is the year

I skipped the last 2 MLB the show games because they were copy and paste job. Same game same graphics and just a touch here and a touch there and charge 100 or 70 each year.

We get a new PS5 PRO and I see no difference from base ps5

Worst of all the CPU pitchers are getting smoked and the CPU waits till they have given up about 8 runs on 10 hits in 4 innings before pulling them

This game badly needs to revamp the broadcast pitching. The pitches if not a fast ball in the 100's feel like they just float and the swing from CPU hitters during broadcast pitching looks weak. They need to make that pitcher/batter interaction more diverse and more sim like. I just wish pitching was far better and it continues to feel neglected.

No chance in hell that on PS5 PRO we still cannot get native 4k. The nets around home plate are all pixelated when camera pans out. Just takes you out of the immersion seeing that. The grass only looks improved during ball in play but when pitching it looks 2d low rez. I think for ps6 the SHOW needs to move to a new engine using the same gameplay but this is stale and the physicality of pitching and hitting needs to be far better. They do not have to gete rid of their formula, but they need to move to a new engine desperately

I wasn't expecting much but I think they are great! I really like how they announce differently for different players and for opposing teams.

No console is able to render native 4K with exception of indie titles and movies. I get your point though they did not enhance it for the pro even though they said they were. I have been reading this thread for the past few days and have been tempted to purchase it.

Glad I didn't I'll keep playing 24 and maybe pick this up during the all star game sale. I could put that money into more deserving games. They don't need my money anyways they have plenty of YouTubers creating addicts in DD.

They didn’t say it would be enhanced for PS5 Pro, Sony did.

Also the game does look a lot better than last year in terms of lighting and clarity. It’s the best it’s going to get on the current model that they have, so the question is just do they move it to a new model so they can up the graphics a bit.

For those who purchased and are disappointed with the graphics, the only question I have is after seeing the preview videos that showed the same model as the previous decade, why did you still decide to purchase?

Not trying to be rude or make a smart comment, I’m just tenuously curious why people still bought the game when it looked the same in all the preview videos. PS5 Pro or XBSX isn’t going to magically fix that to being a whole new looking game. It looks better on those systems for sure, but again it’s within the same game graphics model.

It is great that they have Dick Allen in the game. I remember watching him playing for both the Phillies and the Chisox. However, he should have had 3B listed as a second position. I remember watching him play third.

They mentioned they were cleaning up secondary positions for legends in the live content stream. If he didn't play 3rd in the season his card is representing then they wouldn't assign it to him.

You need to put the pitch speed sliders to maximum if you want to get rid of the pitch float.

Takes a fair bit of time getting used to it as a hitter but it’s much closer to real life. You have very little time to get on top of a 100mph fastball. If it’s inside you almost have no chance.

Each to their own but when I watch people play with default pitch speeds it looks awful, you’ve got so much time to read the pitch and location, I wonder how people miss!

They have a hot mess with Allen. They list his 1966 age of 24 when he was strictly a 3B, then depict his 1976 card, by which time he was strictly 1B. I think his position choice would be fine, if they would change his age. The real mess with Allen is if they wanted to give him a 99 OverAll, they should have chosen his Phillies 1966 card. 1976 should be a65 OverAll. Hopefully they release a second version of him, a 1972 White Sox Allen. He put up a helluva season in '72, worthy of 99 Legend status.

I'm old and my reflex time has been pitiful the last few years. I bump the fastball slider up to 6 and even that little bump is too fast for me, but I'm too stubborn to keep it at default. To make pitch speeds even harder to adjust to, I set the offspeed slider to 4, to really screw with my timing.

lol the slower the pitch speed the worse I hit. I just can’t adjust to the slowness. But when the pitch speed is fast I hit pretty well.

                              The Good:
-Overall feel of the game: Graphics feel good, fresh. I know there wasn't a huge graphic upgrade like everyone wanted, but there are definitely improvements over last year.

-Sounds: The bat sounds feel louder, when you foul off a pitch and hits the net behind home, you hear it. Its subtle, but you hear it.

-Player Models: I feel like player models are much improved.. everyone feels "thinner" which I think is a good improvement. (My only gripe is Marcel Ozuna looks like he has the same body shape as Jurickson Profar, and i'm sure there are others.)
In addtion to player models, i went through the braves roster last night and went to edit players to see how it all looks. I went on austin Riley and wow - I thought that part of the player was incredible. I'm not sure if its the lighting in that screen but the visuals JUMPED out at me. Players look really good.

-Uniform look - I personally feel there was improvement on look of uniforms like they said there was going to be.

The Bad (early on, but the things I don't like BUT not deal breakers):
-No doubt Home run camera - I had one no doubt home run, I didn't care for that angle at all. Maybe its something I got to get used to, but not a fan.

-Visual of bullpen pitchers warming up. I cannot seem to find it - they took away our D-pad quick glance at the bullpen; it'll take you too the bullpen screen, but I feel like its clunky IDK.

-Home run distances as soon as the ball lands/crosses the wall. Seems cartoony, i'm not a big fan of that. I'd rather see the distance on the replay.

Will check back in if theres anything else I notice.
Came back to update the visual of the bullpen and pitchers warming up - I finally got it, but was for the opponent pitchers warming up - still a bummer that when you go to warm up your pitchers, you don't see the bullpen.

Also, the pre-game storylines and farm report is F'ing incredible and I really enjoy that part - Sort of a pre-game show before the game. I really like this.
