Re: What Are You Working On? - MLB The Show 23 Edition

I finished off the '98 program and the Clemente program over the last couple of nights

Got really lucky pulling the upper tier round for a 98 pack from a different program; it allowed me to bypass having to use Sosa (I couldn't hit worth crap with his MVP card and this one was a bit worse) to finish that program.

The Clemente program was fun for me; the theme team featured some really cool combos (especially the lineup, the pitching is weaker) and I'll be curious how it all looks as we get end-game cards. That Clemente fully-boosted by the Lindor captain card looks insane, looking forward to taking him out for a spin.

Also hit Stage 2 of the Pennant Chase program. Not sure if I am going to try and finish it though. The event cards are pricey (and of little interest to me to actually use outside of Trammell) and that's quite the grind in Stage 2 since I already had pulled the 5 cards from the pennant chase packs and locked them in for Stage 1 (which I did purposely to avoid moments) .
Play the games you love, not the games you want to love.

The Clemente and Pennant Chase programs are just going painfully slowly for me. The good news is that I’m enjoying the combined lineup options for grinding, especially when I got the 99 Stargell from a Pennant Chase pack - he counts for both a Clemente Award winner and an Awards series card to progress the Pennant Chase. The moments just count for so little while the missions are so long, I might sacrifice PC to finish TA after Clemente.

Personal opinion, but I don't think the PC rewards are all that worthwhile. I ground-out the first choice pack only because I wanted Bench - but even his swing is a bit dicey, there are far better options at SS than Pena, and Soler is OK, but is limited.

As a side note: the Wainwright coming-out in today's program is also eligible for the Clemente theme team (which is actually a nice little buff for that squad).

I thought about you when I saw the Tweet about the program rewards.

Carpenter is usually a fun card...even though he is a Cardinal

I hate to be one of those complainer people but man none of this season outside of trout has really pushed the needle for me or motivated me. I'm slowly chipping at team affinity but basically just skipping the programs cause none of the cards are worth the grind to me.

Fingers in my pin would help but not worth like 5 hours of work lol.

Big mac swing is worst in the game for me. I did the moments for 98 race program and all were easy except the two Mac missions where like EXTREME

clemente is fine but won't make my team, so no drive

Most fun I've had in the past month is just playing 7 ranked games last Monday. Hoping BR rewards are good and ideally they start throwing flashback packs or previous br packs in or something soon

Finally finished Clemente, and I think my favorite little quirk was realizing that the Sosa Core MVP card counted as a former Clemente winner (with Lindor’s boost too!) and as an Awards series card. It was nice to get to grind two missions on different programs at the same time with a legit top tier card, as opposed to the TA grind.

I think it's more than fair, I'm with you. The best card I've grinded for this season is Cedric Mullins (30 wins 2 events ago) by a mile. None of these program cards are worth it, and the temptation to lock in cards vs. sell off guys like Bogaerts is wearing my patience a bit thin. It's a great option, but because I've played SO much this year, it's cutting into the core of my own fatigue. Do you keep grinding for cards you don't need, get cards along the way that you can either use to profit on or accelerate your progress, or just not give a flip anymore?

Calling it right now - the next Chase pack will be 40-70 Acuña. Saving up my million ...

One piece of constructive criticism, along those lines. If you look at the caliber of player behind the top program rewards (Babe, Chipper, Pedro, Mookie, etc.) and the Chase Packs (Elly, Trout, DeGrom, etc.) and compare that to Ranked and BR rewards, the elite cards are all slanted towards the core program grind or the luck / $$ of a Chase pursuit. I grinded it out for Britton and Dibble, regrettably, and while Arenado looks nice, those cards are inferior to the core program or Chase packs in every way. Just something to think through if they want some of these tougher, coveted modes to feel more worth it next year.

On the flip side, I think they nailed TA. Putting some of the hottest players (Adley, Corbin minus his swing, Olson, J-Ram) into the mix has been well worth it. This current version is a little less inspiring, but Blackmon's swing is a cheat code and that Nolan is worth the grind. Taking the long route this time through those 5K team XPs, sitting at 82. I just don't have another Mini Series in me with guys like Vinny Castilla and Brendan Rodgers (sorry, you two) ...

Anyone know if you need to pitch 2 innings in Conquest for the pitcher to get the win? Or if you have the lead after 1 are you good?

looks like 1. i feel like i should have known this already haha

everybody seems to not like carroll but I was super good with him...he's on my god squad that I never use

But yeah team affinity 3 was good but I don't think anything in TA4 i'll use...even nolan ryan i don't feel comfortable with him in ranked. Outside of RP anyways...position players/starters I won't use.

And yes, I think acuna already leaked....he was in the app on friday but kind've like blacked out and his card wouldn't load, so I assume he's the next chase.

I have like 800k stubs so I'm prob good for him, I'm gonna start selling off set 3 stuff I don't need. Does suck we're losing all set 3 soon because set 4 doesn't really fill out my squad well.

I finished the career tribute program and took my all Cards team into ranked and had a good time went 1-1 and for some reason i could not hit that 98 great race Pedro at all idk what it was or if he was just really changing up his sequences but it was rough .

I really need a better catcher for my Cards team other than that 95 Torre Kaiju card , having to wild card him is kind of a weird thing to do but he's better than ls willson

so my team looks like this now

                          LF - Capt Brock
                          1B 99 Goldy ( since i can have 3 non cardinals cards )
                          2B 99 Carpenter
                          DH- 99 Big Mac
                          CF- 97 HRD Edmonds
3B- 97 allstar Arenado (will grind for the 99 to swap)
                          RF-97 Ludwick
                          SS 97 Ozzie
                          C - 95 Torre (wild card)

                          SP
                          95- Capt Gibson
                          99-Wainwright
                          97-Wacha
                          97- Lynn
                          95-Matz

                          BP
                          97-Hader
99-Billy the Kid( need more lefties )
                          95-Gallegos
                          94-Reyes
                          95- Romero
                          79-Zuniga
                          99-Helsley
                          99-Rosenthal

Both 3 tier captain boost and i really feel like i only want to grind for cards for this team and that really sucks for as much as i love playing this game .

I finished TA4 last night and it was fun. I didn't touch mini seasons at all (even after grinding through all of the TA4 stuff, I still have old conquest maps I still can play through). Being able to create a Theme team while grinding and boosting the guys actually makes it more interesting (to me at least). Now, personally...I love the mix of the TA4 collection players (Votto, Walter Johnson, Crawford, Blackmon and Ryan) a lot better than the TA3 guys.

Another guy who may be a bit overlooked the Set 4 collection Rickey Henderson...holy crap is he good (honestly, he's probably a better card than the Dookie/Kluber/Foxx trio and he's pretty easy to get if you've gotten through TA4).

With TA4 done, I might take a break from DD until season 5 unless I decide to make a concerted effort to finish the Extreme program. I already unlocked Foxx and don't care about Dookie/Kluber and with October content likely all dedicated to this post-season (which I don't care about), might be time to get back into my franchise.

Isn't there a Topps Now Willson? I could've sworn I remembered using him early-on....not sure how he'd stack-up to the Torre; but I know those Topps Now guys can get a bit buried sometimes.

there is and hes a 94 but his stats just dont compare hitting wise or even defense which didnt make sense to me. i used him for a good bit when he came out but he didnt play well which could have just been me but ive done decently well with the Torre card and i think there is a 97 Torre card but i dont his attribute are much better and since hes a braves card he wouldnt be helped by the brock boost .
