So the final McGwire boosting all of the 1998 series cards (from both packs and the program)? Hmmm...That would certainly be an incentive to grind it.

But, would people be willing to grind for a sub-99 Captain card? If you mean a 99 Captain card, well, I think SDS is shying away from that (though I don't necessarily understand the rationale).

Personally, I think it would be WAY cooler to have a lower-rated (more realistic) McGwire with MASSIVE captain boosts (like +25 power, etc.) at Level 3 for series cards. Aesthetically though....they HAVE to do something better with the artwork for Captains - maybe an emblem that is on the normal card artwork.

(For the full effect, I'd love the program(s) to have BOTH a hitter and pitching captain)

Here's another thought....make the final reward a two-pack, with a "normal" 99 and a "big boost Captain" at 95-97 OVR. It would allow for a top-tier card for those wanting to put on team-specific theme teams or a program/series captain that would juice that whole set.
Play the games you love, not the games you want to love.

Put differently, when I first started playing DD (In MLB 18), there were no moments; everything was built around in-game missions. So you could earn progress on SO many things at one time, it was fantastic. Now, the downside was that you were nearly always using a "grind team" and that's where I think SOME Moments could be useful in evening it out a bit.

I like the moments in part because they are the clearest mode to celebrate both current and historical achievements. Like the new call-ups who got Topps cards all get a “moment”, and building those moments into a program with some level of reward is a great way to promote the game, IMO.

Even having middling cards compared to meta be what we earn in the programs is fine with me. Those middling cards are still part of collections for even better cards, so there’s a two-level reward for those who are so inclined. I think that works.

It just doesn’t hold up when all of those reward cards are just the same old players with different skins and somehow even more arbitrary attributes. They either need more legends or less repetition of the players that they keep recycling. Even at least having one “meta” Dodgers Mookie Betts and one “meta” Red Sox Betts would be a step in the right direction, but the multiples make it so repetitive.

Just let EVERY MODE count to progress of some sort...

I still think the babe ruth/tom seaver program from a few years back was the best they've ever done since i've played DD (did franchse before). Only downside of that is it didn't count towards prestige.

Even if I'm doing moments/showdown/conquest/etc...Let me get parallel progress for all that.

I'd really like to be able to play online with my god squad and it not count towards my record. I'm 23-0 so I'm super protective of my record and I go into each ranked game nervous and feel like I need to feel pretty locked in before I go there. Like I'll feel super confident hitting for a few days then drop in with randy or donaldson or some high end pitcher.

I'd like to play "casual" 9 inning games online but I don't want the "stress" ir sweaty nature of it counting towards my record. Currently you play casual 9 inning game and it doesn't count for anything, not even parallel progress. I think maybe if you need like 3 HR's with someone in team affinity it may count for that? But thats it.

BR/events are 3 innings and not really necessarily filled with the players you WANT to use. I would also be much more likely to use mediocre pitchers if the games didn't really count.....I also feel like you'd probably see more mediocre pitchers too.

I think thats what I want the most is non-sweaty 9 inning online games that will count towards progress universally.

I've been saying that to my buddies for a few years about the casual games. No reason they don't count towards progress etc. Kick back, relax, play some games, and get some progress. This needs to be added for 24.

If I recall correctly, several years ago, one of the casual H2H modes counted towards mission progress. That was changed by SDS in a future iteration of the game. I don't recall specifics, but I do feel like I remember hearing something about this.

The reason SDS did this? People colluded and cheesed it for mission progress.

I honestly don't care about people colluding and doing that. So they get a p5 quicker than someone who is playing rookie at some max stadium for 20 hrs str8 with no pee break... Lol, it's fine.

Its like ranked, I like my record... Some people don't care, every year I care about my record.

In casual if some random person is being a moron then you just quit and move to the next game with no penalty no rating reduction, no loss, etc. I feel like for your legit online gamer it would be a good quality of life improvement.

People find a way to cheat the system no matter what. Even now people that do mto to get the big xp progress to start a new season and then sell the boss cards at a high price... That's fine with me, I'm not doing mto to do that.

I bought trout, mantle, elly, and still have 577k stubs. If you don't rip packs Idk how everyone doesn't have a bank of stubs

Getting PXP for moments/showdown would be a great add.

I’m running out of patience with failing the same moments 14 times I’m a row, but at least knowing I’m accomplishing something other than generic season XP would help motivate me to keep going.

Also, I wish SDS would knock it off with these programs that put a couple of packs, a stupid profile icon, plus equipment between cards you need to advance in the program. Completing a mission/moment and getting absolutely nothing meaningful from doing so gets really frustrating. Putting one of those things between the cards is fine, but programs like pennant chase where you have to complete 9-10 moments to actually earn a card make me want to just give up on them and do something else.

Great update ... I pulled a Chase pack and turned up Trout! Spent the $$ I reserved for him on Devers and still have 630K stubs left.

Not so great update ... the Pennant Race design is horrible. I didn't realize it was a two-parter, and so I was trending favorable to get Jackie 19 RBIs, etc., and completed my collection. Now, all those moments and stat missions are gone, and I basically have to play with 4 players non stop to finish the program. That or cash in an event reward, which I didn't want to do. I wish I knew that in advance ...

I heard all this talk of the durability thing and then noticed ripken is set 2...not gonna wild card him for that

Monday is my day to play a good bit and no clue what to do tomorrow, usually i have a plan. Too late to bother with BR, don't care about event....Got like 5 showdowns to do and a few conquests...

Honestly, there are soo many programs that doing all these moments and unlocking cards, its hard to keep track of getting them all their stupid pxp and missions. I almost feel like I spend more time going back to the program screen then playing the game. I pay attention at the end of a game but if I take a day or two off then not sure where I'm at.

I'm basically trying to get enough cards to get betts or foxx I guess then maybe i'll just lock into co-op or casual or something

Understand on trying to keep track. I’ve had to switch between two different squads - the long haul TA grind squad and the Topps Now/Other Programs squad. I don’t even open TA packs that I earn unless that TA squad is my active roster, otherwise I’ll never remember who to grind with next.

The Clemente moments are killing me. I’m so much worse hitting with him than I should be for a HOFer with those attributes, it’s very frustrating.

Went 7-0 in ranked and destroyed, so that was fun.

Gonna lose all my set 3 pitchers when new season drops but I'm prob done with ranked until then anyway. I was super locked in. Now up to 30-0 on the year 😁

After a DD hiatus, played a fair bit on Saturday. I'll say this up-front, but the approach of putting program players into non-guaranteed packs for the pennant chase program is yet another disheartening move by SDS; I don't care how many packs they give you. If that trend continues, my days with the mode will be at an end (frankly, the writing has been on the wall most of the year as SDS has become increasingly predatory - a la 2k).

With that said, I mainly focused on the 1998 program and Clemente program. Probably old news to most, but I was surprised that the Clemente program captains also boost former Clemente award winners as well (not just the program cards and players from PR); it opened up a lot of intriguing options for sure (and makes the 5000+ PXP grind mission a heckuva lot simpler).

I just experienced something that I can't even believe happened.

I was in the final Showdown for the Pennant Chase program. Game was tied and only needed 1 more run to finish it.

I dropped my controller and somehow in the chaos of trying to catch it I paused the game, hit A on Quit and quit the Showdown.

I just wasted the last 30 minutes of my life playing a mode that I hate, only to be nearly finished and somehow accidentally quit out because I dropped my controller.

If this isn't the universe telling me to hang this game up I don't know what is.

Safe to say I'm not finishing the Pennant Chase program. It sucked to begin with and the payoff isn't even worthwhile. But MAN.

I've never had that bad of luck but last year I did a showdown twice in a row and got to the final Boss and beat it and both times the servers disconnected and it counted both as fails

i decided to hop on last night just to play a bit and catch up on some of the stuff and just wanted to play baseball , so i decided to start by opening all the packs i had from the 2 programs that i still havent finished yet but o well. i had like 90+ standard packs and i had some of the craziest pulls i've ever had... first it was Degrom LS, whos still going for a good amount . Next up was Trout LS, and then to finish it all off was Edwin LS . so that was like 150K and then also pulled one of the headliners for Mussina i was pretty excited about that . i may play some more tonight but ive been having alot of fun with my Madden franchise
