Re: What Are You Working On? - MLB The Show 23 Edition
I've done decent with Sosa but I think his 125 power is a lie. I think his swing is a little slow too but not mcgwire slow.
I'm definetly much better with Jeter, Joc, devers, jazz, posada, trout than Sosa.
Mcgwire is just outlier bad... Or I'm outlier bad with him at least.
I want vlad hrd I think as my right handed dh but sure his price will come way down. He's got the power plus 125 clutchComment

Re: What Are You Working On? - MLB The Show 23 Edition
I got the set 1 pack and not sure who to get. I was certain on Pedro but now I'm not.
I'll play the event alot to try and get Jeter close to P5 along with others. Gotta finish charisma stuff then I think monthly program comes out this Friday?
Not sure when I'm gonna circle back around to ranked where I need Pedro.
Devers/Joc I'm hitting like 450+ against RHP and under 100 vs LHP. jazz I hit lefties okay. I assume I'll suck against lhp with babe. Chipper would upgrade devers for me at 3rd but devers is really one of my better hitters as long as no lefty is in sight.
I could move Jazz to 2nd and buy griffey for CF and move turner to the bench to platoon with jazz. Essentially I'd be replacing devers and turner with griffey and chipper.
I don't think I'll go after tatis since I have Jeter at ss. Then would rather have great outfield defense. I notice a big difference with jazz in cf vs turner who has the lesser reaction. Tatis will likely get bad jumps for 250k + no quirks
Fielding my ranked team that I never use is the hardest part of the gameComment

Re: What Are You Working On? - MLB The Show 23 Edition
I’m in the midst of a stretch of a couple weeks where my time to play is limited, at least playing normally. This year I think I’ve decided to play primarily with Yankees, and maybe P5 as many as possible. I’m just not feeling that desire to build a god squad this year, but just playing with my Yankees theme team and guys I like. I’m having more fun though, and in some ways playing better(at least hitting) than I ever have.
I’d like to start BR for Posada, but probably a week away from being able to do that comfortably so I’ve been trying to finish up live series for Jeter. My pack luck has sucked, except for 99 Ohtani, but after getting a decent diamond equipment I figured I have some time for some mindless grind on calls and can pause as needed so created a RTTS player and did some mindless pitching until finishing off the diamond program. I was surprised how much I made essentially selling everything and was a Verlander and half of Diaz away from finishing live series.
The market dip over the weekend helped, and a second RTTS finished through the second diamond equipment was enough to get Jeter. Haven’t had a chance to try him out yet, but looking forward to it and will turn my attention to Volpe, Peraza, Posada, and looks like Severino. May try and get caught up on Topps Now and Charisma program next.Comment

Re: What Are You Working On? - MLB The Show 23 Edition
Got trout, Joc, Sosa and maybe one more up to P4. Can't imagine I'll get a p5 during this event.
Really struggling lefty on lefty and last year I didn't really have that problem. Will have to go in practice mode I guess.
Still sitting on set 1 collection pack. Can't decide bt chip and Pedro so I guess I'll just let it sit thereComment

Pedro is solid but not even the best SP in the game. It really depends on the value you want. Chipper has longterm, entire game cycle value while Pedro will be a good 1-3 SP until rotation. I don't know that I'd select that Pedro as a WC.
Plus, there's no shot we get a better Chipper. There's plenty of room for a better Pedro down the line IMO.Read my OS articles: https://www.operationsports.com/author/corydell/Comment

Chipper is the best card in the game. It's hard to imagine a better overall 3B releasing at any point in the year. That makes him a perfect Wild Card candidate as well.

Current rotation is
Roki
Gibson
May (who I'm not that good with)
Degrom (haven't used)
Satchel (don't plan to use anymore)
In ranked I've just been buying guys off the market and then reselling. They've all been fine but none felt super dominant. Haven't tried the WBC ohtani just bc I usually get shelled with him.
Haven't used grayson, blue, or feller. Out of those I think gibson is actually better than roki.
I'd actually like to dive into ranked this year based on the way its laid out but I feel my pitching is just WEAK
I also just liked chipper alot as a player so I kind've WANT him more than pedro.Comment

Re: What Are You Working On? - MLB The Show 23 Edition
Finally got some grinding in the last two days since Hell week at work is over. Got all the Moments done and just need some missions for Topps Now to be caught up. Got the Moments and Showdown for Charisma done and have all the missions grinded except Vogelbach, Ozzie and Semien. Just got Ozzie so should have that program done soon.
Still haven't had time to play online. Work got so busy and had my second 8-day stretch in the last month so just didn't have time to do anything.
Ended up with a couple wheelspins today. Finally, actually, somehow got a bit of luck and hit a Boss pack. I've hit nothing but silver spins but got my first diamond. Took Rickey since he's more expensive than Williams right now.
Will most likely buy Williams at some point. Not necessarily because I think he's good, just to have all the bosses.
Bought the last Set 1 card I needed under 14k. Was able to collect enough for Trea Turner and I'm sitting about 20 cards shy of Chipper right now. Between the last couple cards I still need to earn for Charisma and Topps Now from last week, the Topps Now cards that should be dropping tomorrow and the last couple from the Egg program that I never got - I'm a lot closer than I thought.
I haven't even bought Stubs to get there, either. I'm not necessarily avoiding spending money this year but haven't had a need yet. Once I get Chipper, I'll turn my attention back to Live Series and start working toward finishing that.
Debating starting Rickey over Jazz on the main squad. Still a RHP heavy meta but Rickey has better Quirks. I've just never hit super well with Rickey so maybe I'll slide him in to give him a try. Haven't used him since 2019 now that I think about it.Read my OS articles: https://www.operationsports.com/author/corydell/Comment

Re: What Are You Working On? - MLB The Show 23 Edition
Another observation I've made (but moreso in franchise) is that it seems like control for 3rd-4th-5th pitches is a bit more dicey. I've found myself bumping my usage of my primary/secondary pitches up a bit more (in all honesty, in the past, I probably used those weaker pitches a bit too frequently).
This is just a thought, but maybe re-orienting your staff to focus more on higher-control pitchers (and I mean really looking at the control rating for the individual pitchers, not just BB/9 or the aggregate control rating) could put you in a place where you'd feel more comfortable with them.Play the games you love, not the games you want to love.Comment

Re: What Are You Working On? - MLB The Show 23 Edition
i finally got an hour n a half to play a bit last night and started another BR run and got up to 40 points i believe in the program and have a 3-0 going with a pretty decent team i feel .. i just really want Griffey and then i think after that ill actually start ranked .
i got another wheel spin and of course it was silver but i did pull a feature on the diamond duo pack Walter Johnson and sold him to but Edmonds but i am not going to lock him in for CHipper so that if i get another good pull i can sell him and buy Edwin to finish the NL and get sosa .
i think i should have a good amount of playing tomorrow night so should get Chipper tomorrow with the topps now coming out and the Mexico series cards coming.Comment

I think they did us dirty with the Mexico series and made them core, so they won’t count to Chipper.Comment

For those of us primarily only using Core cards, this is a welcome content drop.Last edited by JoshC1977; 04-27-2023, 01:35 PM.Play the games you love, not the games you want to love.Comment

So it just seems like collection fodder like Topps Now, and seems like helping towards Chipper or Pedro or Ruth would benefit more.
If someone likes anyone or these are the types of Core players people are looking for great, and I would bet they’ll help some future collection.
But I was thinking when they showed these I was getting Chipper Friday too, so stand by my comment, but it was meant in joking way.Comment
