Re: **MLB 08: The Show (PS2) First Impressions Thread**

I picked it up for my ps2 upstairs and the ps2 version is tight.

The graphics are more like 06 than 07, which is a good thing since 06 has the best graphics. Night games are awesome looking, excellent lighting and very crisp looking like 06. Day games are more like 07 where it looks like things are a little more jaggy and not as crisp. I can live with it though.

Gameplay is excellent. I played a few games and it feels like gameplay of 07. Basically they gave me what I wanted, gameplay of 07 and the graphics of 06. Both are close so I'm happy.

Actually, this may sound crazy, but I prefer the gameplay of the ps2 version over the ps3. I don't know why I say that, since both games are the same right? Or was the ps3 version developed with different gameplay code than the ps2 version? Anyway, this will keep me happy . I am now wondering to check out the psp version too just to compare.

        Daniel Cabrera...

just hit B.J. Upton on the top of his lead shoulder....he fell to the ground and one of the staff from the Rays' dugout looked after him while he lie face down in the batter's box....

I thought he was gonna come out of the game, but he stayed in. The O's are leading me 1-0. It's the top of the 6th, and now I got Iwamura on second (walk) and Upton (walk) with no one out and cleanup hitter Carlos Pena up.

that sequence did not happen in '07

            So Carlos Pena...

hits a slow squib towards short....too slow for the O's to turn two, so Luis Hernandez fires to first and JUST nails Pena...the runners advanced to 3rd and 2nd.

O's SS, Hernandez doesnt have a strong arm...but anyway...Pena argues he's safe and gets tossed.....grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

Wily Aybar will go in in the bottom half of the 6th to play third...and Joel Guzman will move over from third to first.....

Johnny Gomes is the next batter...

he took a called strike on a first pitch fastball . Then on pitch number 2, he ripped a hanging 12-6 curve over the left field wall for a 3-run homer and the Rays are now up 3-1!

              That's what's up!!!!

              LOL

So has anyone seen if the CPU makes trades during a franchise?

I'm holding off for a bit getting this. I don't want to pick it up, and realize there's some goofy bug in the franchise mode that ruins it.

What are the overall impressions of the franchise mode itself?

                    First game played...I'm pretty content.

Like a lot of people have been saying the hitting just seems more refined. The ball looks better coming off the bat and I've already seen a ton more doubles than I did in 07. Not too mention some walks by the CPU!

Gameplay overall seems improved and will only get better once we get some sliders up!

Time to check franchise mode and RTTS!

Just played my first game and I really like what I see so far. I didnt play much of 07 (poor framerate) so this game really seems improved to me over MLB 06. The thing that jumped out at me first was the amount of foul balls being hit and over all hit variety in general. Also, breaking pitches are a lot nastier now. The only thing that seemed worse to me, is the graphics but not by much. And is it just me or does the hitting seem a little more opposite field happy?

I think I'm gonna be very pleased with my purchase.

Ya, the foul balls are awesome. I've had numerous at bats where I've fouled off about 8-9 pitches in a ball game. The graphics are a step down for 06, but a major up from 07. That's who bad the graphics were in 07. It's closer to 06 which is a good thing, but they should have been at 06 levels. Gameplay is awesome i got to agree. Just the way you get the ball travelling and the physics is great this year.

yeah the cpu does pull off some deals in 'chise... I simmed just to check and there were 2 in the last month before the deadline. Bengie Molina to the RedSox for some rookie closer, and a minopr league depth deal between the Reds and Rox. So a whopping big 2 trades, but already better than last year.

I've noticed the CPU learns your hitting tendencies as well.. If you use the Batter/Pitcher analysis the CPU WILL exploit your weaknesses... ie high and tight, if you are struggling with your swing the CPU will pitch there...

also I don't know if you could do this in previous installments, but you can select your opposing starter in exhibition mode. I hated always going against the other teams ace lol

just finished playing my first game and also mesed around with options, etc. Its pretty much what I expected- a very polished gameplay,ps2 graphics, great play by play, and cool cut scenes,BUT, Im a fantasy draft guy,and after auto drafting I noticed that they didnt fix last year's bug, where cpu teams draft the best player regardless of position needs,so you end up with about 8-10 teams that draft two closers,8 starting pitchers, etc. In my opinion, this oversight/non correction is a joke, but since I own a 360 ,and not a PS3, I will wait and rent 2k8 and then decide if I will own 2 titles this year.If anybody has any questions about game ,I will try to answer those for you, since we Ps2ers are becoming extinct!
