I got tired of having only one option and that option being the 2k series.

why did i make the jump to the Show ?

cuz, back when i initially made the "jump", the only other titles were 2k and MVP.

MVP sucked (sorry i never liked the series dating back to Triple Play) and the 2k franchise needed work. From then, MLB The Show have improved year-by-year (unlike 2k)

I made the jump to the show series in the spring of 2005....Was hell excited when I got my copy of mvp 2005 with manny on the cover, but after a month of playing the lack of zone hitting, unrealistic HRs ( basically push up and left to crush balls for HRs) and the lack of user walks killed the game for me.

Had no idea about how good the show was....tried mlb 2006 and it was the best gaming decision ever....

I basically played most of the baseball games out there, with my primary one being ASB, (mainly for its looks) But I started playing the show before it was the show and was soon hooked and its gotten better and better every year. That's all you can expect from a game.

Last year I made the jump from 2K. THE SHOW 08 WAS THE SOLE REASON I BOUGHT A PS3. It was freakin BEAUTIFUL and truly a next gen sports experience. Before the Show I was a casual baseball fan but after the Show I am truly a diehard baseball fan(purchased MLB ExtraInnings because of it). That's saying something when a videogame can make you a diehard fan of a paticular sport.

Re: why did you make the jump to the show?

I guess it was a natural progression for me.

I've been playing 'computer baseball' since the days of Atari

I really got into it with Earl Weaver Baseball. If I had to guess I'd say I played in excess of 10,000 games of EWB (I'm not exaggerating).

I played Hardball, Tony Larusa, Microsoft Baseball 2001, High Heat 2001, 2002, 2004, then moved to MVP '04 and '05. I was a pretty serious 'modder' for MVP '05 for quite some time.

Once MVP had run it's course, I started looking for a new game. I hadn't owned a console since PS1, and I wasn't really interested in getting one. Then I saw MLB '07 and I was pretty much sold. I convinced my wife to buy me a PS3 for Father's Day back in '06.

The license agreement for MLB video games. I played a game that compared to the MVP series.

I was an MVP guy. Once that ended I decided on The Show because I remember playing MLB '99 and 2000 and how much I liked it and I have never been a fan of 2k games of any kind so I wasn't wasting my money on that.

Re: why did you make the jump to the show?

Once upon a time there was a game called MVP Baseball...

                      But first this:

Baseball games almost never come out in Europe because nobody cares about baseball. That meant I had to buy a Gamecube because only the Gamecube had a bootdisk that would let it play US/Japanese games.

MVP had so much stuff going on for its time it was ridiculous!
I remember that when 2K got the MLB license and MVP had to take the college road I was so disappointed that I didn't even bother their next installment.

So then I got an Xbox360 and was checking out the Baseball offering and came across the only option available: the MLB 2k series. Now since they never released that game in PAL format (you guys use NTSC) I was f****d with a European Xbox that only plays PAL games.

Now 2008 came around the corner and I saw videos from MLB 08 The Show and it instantly brought back memories of MVP for me. I believe it was the way how the camera followed the ball when it was hit, because I never liked how 2k showcased that.

But then it took me months to figure out that the PS3 was a region free game platform and I could actually play a new baseball game since MVP 05! I was so stoked that ordered the game and bought a PS3.

                      The End.

Re: why did you make the jump to the show?

I was always one to play a handful of games for a handful of reasons. I spent my time flip-flopping between ASB, HH, and MVP (though ASB always holds a special place in my heart. Much of the details you are seeing in The Show are courtesy of ASB's innovation).

Anyway, I first gave the MLB series a serious look for MLB 2006. It was a good game (minus some freezing issues) and I had a lot of fun with it. I've been playing the series ever since. I tried 2K7 for my "next gen" baseball (before I purchased my PS3) and had a lot of fun with it (and it was visually stunning).

The baseballer in me took me back to my PS2 and MLB 07 though and I was reminded why I loved the series. I purchased my PS3 shortly after and played 07 on it long enough to tide me over until 08. And the rest is on-going

One thing I love about The show is that it's grabbing some of what I loved about all my old favorites and gradually improving on them. I just need more fluid fielding (I loved MVP for that) and my ASB expansion mode (upgraded with a stadium creator) and my orgas...I mean I will be very happy

As I recall, ASB was the only baseball game that got a release in the UK, so I used to play that. When I moved to Canada, I bought an NTSC PS2, MVP 04 and MLB 05. I really liked MLB05 but the lack of check swings ruined it for me. The following year I was back in Scotland so I had to import the games. MLB 06 arrived 3 weeks before MVP so by that time I was well into my franchise and I never went back. I've played every version since. In fact, my wife now knows to leave me alone during March as I'll be busy with 'that bloody baseball game'.

I made the switch from MVP 05 for XBOX. I played it until August of 07. Using MVPmods roster updates to keep the team rosters current. In 07 when Arizona and Cincy changed their uniforms I had to move on. I had played MLB 2k7 for XBox and hated it. I played one game of MLB 07 The Show on PSP and liked the game play. So I took a chance and bought a PS3 and MLB 07. I've been hooked ever since!

interesting! i'm still really surprised to see so many people in the UK playing MLB games. i guess out of ignorance i always assumed that folks out there completely ignore american baseball and football. that's great to hear!
