I forgot to mention I hated baseball until last year. Picked this game up and it helped me find a love for the game. Thanks SCEA.

Almost identical situation for me. I enjoyed the MVP series, but by June 2005, I was really bored with all aspects of MVP 05. I ended up renting MLB 06(before The Show w/ Vlad on the cover) in July because I remembered that they had a career mode in it. Then I was hooked. I ended up buying MLB 06 a month later because I couldn't get it off my mind. I even held off from buying a 360 when that came out because I knew that I was going to need a PS3 for this series(although I own both now, lol). I'm really surprised by all the love that MVP 05 gets as, imo, MLB 06 was superior in most ways and it had the extra mode. The game has only gotten better since then and the rest is history.

The show Is the only baseball game I've ever played!

I've been playing since MLB 98 on the PS1, a friend sold me It for a candy bar lol.

Since then I've been hooked, I've never been able to get into any other baseball game.

Re: why did you make the jump to the show?

I've been playing baseball videogames since RBI Baseball on the NES. I remember spending hours editing the player names to their real life counterparts. Then spending more hours playing the game with my dad. Bases Loaded also spent a great deal of time on my NES.

When the SNES came around, Ken Griffey Jr. Presents Major League Baseball was killer for me because you could also edit rosters, and it had a presentation that was simply stunning. My buddy Tyson and I would spend hours upon hours upon hours playing world series games between the Yankees and the Mets. (He was a Mets fan, I was a Yankees fan. We always thought it would be cool to see them in the World Series together. 2000 kind of made a childhood dream come true. For me at least. )

It was shortly after Ken Griffey Jr. Baseball came out that I first saw "World Series Baseball" on the Genesis. The batting view, the inclusion of all real life stadiums, full rosters, commentary, etc. had me stunned. I soon got a Genesis for my birthday and played that game to death. The only thing that had me a bit disappoitned was that the stats were horribly unrealistic. Typical games were 28-5 in my favor on the hardest difficulty. It made an overall great game somewhat disappointing.

A few years later, my buddy Keith got a Sega Saturn and WSB for the Saturn. My jaw dropped when I saw rain coming down, games get delayed, and games get ended early. To this date, it is the ONLY game out there to include realistic weather effects. (Hopefully MLB 10: The Show will change that. ) I never got a saturn as it was a bit expensive and died early, and at that point my console gaming days were basically over.

I rented Triple Play baseball on a few occasions and was stunned by the graphics, but again, the gameplay was HORRIBLE! Played in on my PC in the later years, and still found it to be crap. Looking for a good baseball game, I found High Heat Baseball.

High Heat Baseball was the greatest baseball game on the planet. It didn't have the amazing graphics that most games in that era had, but it did have one thing that no other baseball game had: realistic stats. The tune file was a godsend and the community around that game was great. I must have played at least 100 different seasons throughout the history of that series. It was also the first time that I had ever experienced a game where the devleopers wanted to hear from the community and would interact with them. I thought it was perfect.

Then, I'll never forget the day a post was made at the old HighHeat.net forums by a dev. The company, and hence the series, was going under. I was honored that the dev team would let us know (minutes before the public announcement was made) and the support they gave us to help modify the existing game to our liking.

Shortly thereafter, I had heard about MVP05 and how good that game was. (I think that's the game that may have gotten me to join these forums so many years ago). I started out by getting into my 3D rendering software and making some updates to Yankee Stadium. It turned out okay, but a lot of it was well over my head so I couldn't get too gung-ho with it like I did with High Heat. (I had put all the real ads, scoreboards, etc. into the High Heat stadium). Also, I wasn't thrilled with the gameplay and stats generated by MVP. It was okay, but High Heat spoiled me.

This brings me to this past November. In September of 2007, I bought my first house. I spend most of my time at work or out with my friends at various places, so didn't have much reason to think about a game console. I was happy with my TV and DVD Player for watching movies. Then, in about September of 2008, my buddy Jon was hosting our weekly poker game. He showed me the new Blu-Ray player he got, and I HAD to have one. (Everybody has their one "expensive" friend who always gets new technology that after seeing it, you must have. )

Later that November (After Thanksgiving) a friend/colleague of mine needed a place to live so I said "$600 a month and you can have the spare bedroom in my house." He agreed and moved in. During that first week, we didn't really have much to do besides watch TV. It was getting kind of boring. So with a rent check in hand, I went and found a good deal for a 40 GB PS3 MGS4 bundle. I bought it. I then went and got a 320 GB HDD and upgraded the hard drive. With a great blu-ray player and a great HDTV, the only thing missing was a good sound system. My roommate is a HUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUGE audio nut and knows what a good system is. He directed me to a webite called partsexpress.com and I went and got the parts needed to build a custom 5.1 speaker system. He sold me a subwoofer he had been working on but had no place to put it in, and with some money I had set aside I got an Onkyo TX-SR606 receiver.

So now it was time to start getting games. The system came with MGS4, and my roommate stopped at gamestop and picked up some used games. (Army of Two, Tiger Woods 08) and I then went out and got MLB08. I am now in heaven. A great TV, a great sound system, a great blu-ray player, a great console, and the best baseball game ever. I have no worries about my PS3 dying on me like all of my friends' 360's.

I've downloaded a bunch of demos and games, so my gaming collection now consists of:

          Army of Two
          Tiger Woods '08
          Fight Night Round 3
          GTA IV
          MGS4
          Gran Turismo 5: Prologue
Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo: HD Remix
          Star Wars: Force Unleashed
          Warhawk
          Rockband
          Guitar Hero: World Tour

MLB 08 was traded in to get GH, and I now just have the demo of 09 on my console. (As well as thousands of mp3s, some music videos, and the movie Airheads). MLB 09 was already pre-ordered so I can't wait for March 3rd.

i liked it on ps2 but the graphics were horrid, so on 360 i went with mlb 2k7, it gave my 360 3 red lights(i swear up and down). so i vowed to never play it again and i needed a baseballl fix so i grabbed 08, and wow it was like when i went from dreemcast to ps2 and lost touch with nfl 2k, until 2k5 came out. night an day

I switched when I bought a PS3 last year. I tried 2k6-2k8 and was fed up with the gameplay. Hopefully 2k will be better this year, but I have already paid for my copy of the show. 2k is a rental this year for me again.

i made the jump when i bought a ps3 and was looking for my first next-gen baseball game. as soon as i tried that horrendous batting system in 2k, i figured i'd like ANY other baseball game.

luckily, i didnt have to like the show by default, but rather because the game is actually solid. love it.

When did I make the jump?

After MVP folded, I looked around for my baseball fix. I tried 2K game, and it was beyond horrible.

I tried The Show, and loved it instantly. I bought a PS3 and have never looked back.

                      Very easy 'jump'.

I may not be qualified to post here, as I didn't make any "jump". But..........

Last year, I was surfing various gaming websites and reading reviews of The Show. Having never bought a baseball game before, but loving the sport, I was curious. Well, after reading one 9.0 and above rating after another, I decided to d/l the demo and see what all the talk was about.
Needless to say, I couldn't believe just how real and fun the demo was. So, I bought my copy (slightly used) at Gamestop for 40 bucks. It didn't come with a manual, so I had to learn as I played. Never before had a sports video game prolonged my interest like this one did!

So, now I'm hooked. I never even tried MLB 2k8, so I can't comment on that one. But The Show makes me realize just how happy I am that I bought a PS3!

Pretty much along the same lines for me..it was more of a case of switching to the Ps3 from X Brick than it was from 2k to The Show. I'm happy that I did though, RTTS revolutionized sports gaming for ME. A great superstar mode so to speak that actually is fun and addicting.

Re: why did you make the jump to the show?

Ha, Ironically, my "jump" story is similar to Jdurg's. I remember being all about the very simplistic "Major League Baseball" on the NES, despite its crappy graphics. I also played the heck out of Baseball on the Game Boy, but it wasn't until the SNES and Ken Griffey that my love for baseball games exploded.

While Griffey was a lot of fun, it took forever to edit the players, so eventually I went over to Tecmo Super Baseball on the SNES, which had the rosters and players, but not the official team names, a switch I was willing to deal with.

I was a Sega Saturn owner eventually, which led to my love (and addiction) to the World Series Baseball series, with WSB II the best of the bunch (98 was a big disappointment) , and kudos to JDurg for remembering the weather effects on that game, I still miss that!

Of course, Saturn died so I headed over to the PS1, and there was MVP 04. Having played Triple Play Gold with a friend on the Genesis, and hearing great things about MVP, I was hooked and played MVP 05 for a year or two after the series' death.

Then I did research on IGN, OS and other places to find my next franchise. Saw that MLB 07 was the way to go, and it's been that way ever since. I still pop in MVP 05 from time to time, but it's all about The Show now, SO realistic and I can't wait for this year!

I've been on board since then.
That was the first game I got from SCEA (989 Sports) and man was I frusterated. I was a big MVP guy and having basically a coaster of a game for 06 made me so mad. I wasn't going to get the 07 game because of a grudge I was holding from 06 but the RttS mode made me get it. Luckily the game hasn't froze on me since the 06 version.

Now this franchise has really won me over so much that I even sold my PC version of MVP 05.

Well after 2 years of trying to play MLB 2k I gave up on playing a baseball game. One day last spring I was on Gamespot and people over there were raving about this game, saying it was better than MVP. So after work that day I went out and bought me a PS3 and MLB The Show and I was ever so happy I did.
