Re: Top 5 Center Fielders in MLB09 The Show
Well playing the Sox he does at least lol. Since he I don't follow the Indians, the only games I see are when they are playing the White Sox. He kills us, that's putting it lightly. So from my perspective it looks like he's getting better every season.Comment

You didn't even answer my question. I assume you mean the stats speak for themselves with regards only to RBI's? How do the stats show that Hamilton is "handily" better than Sizemore. I can't even say who's better, but somehow you can say that Hamilton is "handily" better than Sizemore.Seattle Pilots GM (2011 - ) Record: 152 - 195

IMO, Sizemore should be #1 on this list. He is really a top 10 talent in all of baseball and had to carry that team in the 2nd half last year offensively especially without Pronk and Martinez doing much of anything which might help explain his lower average. Hamilton though should be #2 or 3. Close between him and Beltran. Theres no way he should be behind Ellsbury who scouts are still on the fence about. It had been posted that ratings are based on the past 3 years. Ellsbury has done little in that span beyond last years second half compared to Hamilton who at least played a solid season and 3/4 (injury). He could either be the next Kenny Lofton (did it all) or hes gonna be the next Juan Pierre (thank god for those legs) but thats gonna take time to figure out forget him being the 6th best CF in MLB now. My opinion:
Sizemore
Hamilton
Beltran
Upton
Granderson
Hunter
Victorino
Kemp
Wells

How is Granderson not on this list? This is just as bad as Quentin not on the LF list, honestly.Comment

Russell please amend this list immediately. Cameron Maybin hit .500 last year. No player in the history of baseball ever hit .500Comment

I wasn't aware that the first two months of the season didn't count. My fault.Comment

Re: Top 5 Center Fielders in MLB09 The Show
Because nobody who enjoys the statistical analysis aspect of baseball would ever dare to argue "Fielding Percentage" in a discussion about a player's defense?
McLouth was -40 using Bill James' Plus-Minus system as a center fielder in 2008; that means he made 40 fewer plays than the league-average defender at that position (worst in baseball). Also, his UZR/150 was 14.3 runs below average (costing his team roughly one win by himself over the 2008 season) - not to mention taking into account range runs only, he was 15.9 below average. In terms of range and actually getting to the ball (which is the most important thing an outfielder can do, which is why fielding percentage is an unbelievably stupid stat to use), Nate McLouth was not only the worst center fielder in baseball in 2008, but one of the ten-worst outfielders in baseball.
Lastly, discounting his abhorrent defensive value for a second, he hit .257/.331/.437 not including the first two months of the season, he isn't that good.
This kid can play ball. I saw him play CF every game last year, he made some fantastic plays in CF, I'm not saying hes the best CF in the league but hes above average (Gold Glove, he had to catch some attention)
He was tied for 1st in the NL with 46 doubles. He Hit 26 HRs. He had 94 RBIs even though he led off most of the year. 23 SBs, the guys only been thrown out 5 times in 62 career attempts (91%).
among NL CFs:
113 runs (2nd)
165 hits (4th)
46 doubles (tied 1st)
26 HRs (2nd)
94 RBIs (2nd)
.276 AVG (5th)
.356 OBP (3rd)
.497 SLG (2nd)
.853 OPS (2nd)
Yes he did tail off at the end of the season, but it was his first full season as a starter, he got fatigued.
my mistake for expecting him in the top 10Last edited by tree3five; 02-25-2009, 10:08 PM.Comment

McLouth was not above average or anywhere near it in CF. He would be decent in a corner spot but he was the worst CF on defense last year.Comment
