Re: MLB 09: The Show - Impressions

I have my throwing errors all the way down and my fielding errors all the way up. I find that with this mix I get a ton of bobbled plays with my SS and 2B and not nearly as many throwing errors. I have yet to see a failed pick with the 1B, but now that I know it can happen I will be less likely to "game the system". Although, if it does happen I won't mind at all, as I would rather miss low than high since high is always six feet too high lol.

I play on Legend. I almost never saw a human error on All-Star.

Ha, I just had one cost me the game. Anyway, did you make the jump straight from all-star to legend?

This is nothing major, I love this game and am having a blast with it.

One dumb thing that annoys me though. In RTTS mode, if your on base and your CPU teammate hits a foul ball at the plate.....the follwing animation is annoying...your RTTS guy starts running, stops, kicks one foot out while holding his helmet and goes back to his previous base.

That's cool, but not for EVERY animation. If your on 3rd base and you have a teammate at 1st base as well, you see them do the animation in the exact same time. I don't know why, but it bugs me.

Yes and believe it or not, I was hitting too many HR's on Legend until I lowered the power. Legend just plays better. I'm a classic pitching guy and you can walk batters on Legend and it really maks you pay for throwing meat pitches. It just seems to play a more realistic game to me.

I've yet to see any dust at all. I'm usually concentrating on the pitcher's release.

In real life, I'm not looking at the ground, I'm looking at the pitcher. You may wanna try that.

              Otherwise, bye.
I've tried that but I can't control the urge to look.

So now i played this game for three weeks and i can not find words which could describe how amazing this game is. in the past i switch on my ps3 3 times or less a week. but now i play everyday and it hurts everytime when i know now it´s time to go sleep. i never had a sports game which gets me closer to a simulation. it´s sooooooooooooo amazing and please sony do not change gameplay, maybe some little things but the main gameplay should be the same ( not take steps backward, like madden series )
                this game is ..........

Even with the dirt, if you see it towards the backdoor area, it's still sometimes a strike well in the zone. I tried doing it for one game, then just stopped

Gripe: to cause pain in the bowels!!!

I hope someone reads this that has input to the game for next year.

I'm a simple guy and LOVE the game - I coach or in MLB 09 jargon Manage only in Season Mode.

My gripe is that if I want to manage I WISH the CPU would not take control of things and make decisions FOR me!!

For instance - last night I was in a tight game with 1 out and a guy on 2nd. The batter was slumping and all of a sudden the CPU decided to intentionally walk the guy. It totally backfired and I lost the game. WTF!!!!

Also - I have Prince Fielder and the guy just takes off to steal a base on his own!! OUT . . .WTF!!!!

Another glitch I found that I'm confused about and it's probably user error on my part. I warm up a pitcher and never use him in the inning. So I go to use him NEXT inning AND HE'S COLD!!

Should I sit him down and warm him up again? click click?

I also do not understand Pitching Strategy - How long is this in effect. 1 pitch? 1 batter? Forever?

GREAT game otherwise - love it.

                      Well, both are your fault....partly.

First one...if you are using the PLAY BALL button, you are basically giving control to the CPU Manager. You must call the play in each situation. In that case where you think the CPU might intentionally walk the batter, you have to use the PITCH TO command instead.
However, there are a few options missing, where the CPU does take control sometimes. Hit and Run is the most common that drives me nuts...but even that would be mostly remedied by using the HIT AWAY command...but it is mostly(anything but 3-0) greyed out.

The second...either the pitcher will take a long time to get warm(it is the case for certain pitchers.....) or they got warm and are now regressing because you forgot to sit them.
I wish they would just have the guy get warm and do what it takes to stay warm on his own.

I feel you a little with this....a little more control in MoM would be nice.

                      M.K.

Play Ball button???? is that the X (I don't have a controller in front of me).

Normally I click the "X" and then the right side "O" to get that count down . . .down.

PITCH TO command??? Is that on the screen that has
                        PITCH BATTER
                        PITCH AGGRESSIVE
                        PITCH LOW
screen? and if so - how long is that commend in effect?? one batter? one pitch? THAT is the big question no one seems to know.

Warming up - yea - my bad LOL BUT once he is back to cold how do you warm him up a gain - sit him down and get him up again? Probably but I've never tried it.

OH - BTW - if anybody has Wakefield - you should see his knuckle ball when he is COLD!! WOW

                        Thanks

I have played close to 100 games and for the first time I just saw Milton Bradley lose hold of his bat and watched it go in the seats. Also heard the PA announcer telling the fans to come out to Wrigley this Sunday to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Ernie Banks MVP award! I love this game! Anyone else see this yet?

After 18 games with the Yankees, I am loving this game. It has been fun and challenging. I was an MVP 05 mod guy for the last few years, but I can honestly say that the Show has taken over as my baseball game of choice. As I am a huge text sim guy, I will also give OOTP a try, but for my money, I love the Show. Well done SCEA

PLAY BALL is the O button....but it basically a quick play button that let's the CPU have the choice(much like it initially will choose your infield(DP an such) automatically and you must override it if you want something different.
If you are hitting X and then just O without hitting X again(on the pitchers name) you are still hitting PLAY BALL. When you hit X the second time(on the pitchers name) you will then get the PITCH STRATEGY box and that will give you all the additional choices. PITCH BATTER is the one that tells you to ....pitch to the batter instead of the intentional pass...or you can choose a specific location which will also pitch to the batter. These are all one pitch shots.
L2+X is the shortcut for PITCH BATTER(1 pitch)
L2+triangle is the shortcut for PITCH AROUND(1 pitch....GREAT for getting K's when you have a 0-2 or 1-2 count!)
L2+O is PITCH AGGRESIVE(he TRIES to pipe one)
These are all one pitch at a time.
I use those shortcuts a lot and rarely let the CPU choose even one pitch.
If it's a tough hitter(Pujols for example)...I will bring up his hot/cold and call specific locations.
(hopefully SCEA will let us call specific pitches next year)

On the bullpen...yes...sit him and bring him back up.
I too have many times forgotten to sit a guy down. This should be automatic....for sure.

                                Hope this helps.
