Re: MLB 09: The Show - Impressions

So I've played 3 games so far, lost my first two, and won my last one.

Kicked off my MLB 09: The Show playing career with a little Nationals at Reds (me). Got pounded 9-3. Jay Bruce hit a homer though! I was having a little trouble with the base running controls. I hit pretty well, collecting over 10 hits, but stranded a bunch or messed up with the base running like I said. My pitching was pretty realistic... it is Cincinnati, after all.

Second game it was the Rangers at Angels (me). A bit closer, though I still took a 6-1 loss. Kind of a pitiful effort, hitting wise from such a talented group.

Then my last game, Padres against the Diamondbacks (me). Decided to make it Chris Young against Dan Haren. The switch to Haren (from Webb) was the right one! He went the full 9 innings, allowed only 1 run, struck out 6 but walked 6 as well. That's what I love... the pitching control. You CAN hit your spots. But not all the time. I threw like 130ish pitches. It was just awesome to be able to pitch like that after allowing a decent amount of runs in my first two games.

I feel like I'm turning the corner, getting comfortable with the game. After that brief introduction to the game, I'm ready to start taking it serious.

Awesome game. Can't wait to play again!

do you guys like to set your lineups? how often do u substitute players in and out of the lineup?

is it a good idea to let the computer handel my lineup and pitching rotation? will they subsitute players in for me?

Re: MLB 09: The Show - Impressions

Just getting started with my 4th game, this time using the Detroit Tigers. I'm hosting the Minnesota Twins.

Verlander has it so far through 2 innings. No hits, no runs, 1 K and 1 BB.

But it's the play I just made that made me come here to post. Carlos Guillen at bat, and he puts a charge into one. I knew it was good solid contact by how the crowd reacted. That loud cheer when you connect solidly... so awesome.

Well, Denard Span is out there in right field. And he's sprinting for it, lays out, full extension... pops in and out of his glove! Guillen slides into 3rd barely in front of the relay.

I'm in love with this game already.

Rent them both and decide for yourself. Discussion of comparing the two games here is frowned upon.

Grab your favorite beverage and read the "impressions' threads for both games. You will come away with everything you need to know.

While drinking a fresh bottle of Bud Light Lime I just had my 1st Back to Back to Back HR ever in a MLB The Show game. I finally have become patient at the plate. No comeback AI. I was so pumped to have this happen to me. This game which most of you know is just plain incredible. Peace!!!!

Re: MLB 09: The Show - Impressions

I just want to cry right now. Seriously.

Played my first game on Legend just for the hell of it, figuring I'd get my doors blown off. Wrong. I was playing as Baltimore vs. the Brewers, and squeaked across an early run in the 3rd inning. That was it until the bottom of the 8th, when Milwaukee managed to score on an RBI groundout to 1st when I should have been playing the whole infield in, or at least halfway. That was nothing though.

9th inning, I strand a 1-out triple in the top half. Bottom 9:

                          Hardy singles.
                          Braun reaches on 1-4 FC.
Fielder singles, Braun (winning run) to 3rd.

So this time I play the infield halfway, hoping for either the DP ball or a play at the plate. Corey Hart at the plate, hits a two-hop grounder right at Cesar Izturis who backhands it. The perfect DP ball......

                          And I threw home.

Not an accident, no fault of the controls, I just threw home. Izturis gets off a strong accurate throw (the animation was fluid, I did preload it), but it's too late as Braun slides across with the winning run. After the play I couldn't believe what I'd done.

The game itself was amazing - I had my typical 12 k's against a staff ace, but to my surprise I racked up 6 K's of my own. The starter Guthrie gave up nothing - both runs were off the pen. Nothing like I expected Legend to be - but I can definitely see why it's so tough.

                            Hey guys,

just wanted to ask if some of you have the same problem.
On my PS3 both me and the CPU have our starting pitchers nearly always at only 10% Stamina left with only 60-70 Pitches thrown...
This really ticks me off because it means my SPs are rarely able to go more than 6 Innings and if I stretch them further w'ont have full stamina on their next game in my season.

I tried to fix this problem by not loading the pitching meter to full energy on most pitches but it doesn't really make much of a difference. I tried to use the slider, too, for both me and the CPU, without recognizing muc of an effect.

It really pisses me of because I think it really hurts the realism of the game.
What's really making me wonder is that 2 freinds of mine aren't having those problems...???
Please help me, a SP is supposed tot go 100 Pitches, I really want to throw a complete game just one time...

                            thx

I don't know why, but I believe you can control 4 teams. Then again, I could be completely wrong. I want to run a Franchise with Cleveland and NY Mets starting tonight.

Can anyone else chime in? I'll check when I'm done with work for you Fist.
