Re: MLB 09 "Road To The Show" thread

Alright I am starting up my final RTTS guy as I take a break from my franchise. How hard would it be to make a Hanley Ramierez type player? I know that at SS they drop your power down. Also when I am in the field am I going to see more fielding oppurtunities or am I just running over and covering the bag on stolen bases?

I don't know if anybody's said this but when you hit 70 dingers in a season, Matty V. makes a little comment about Mark McGwire. " That's number 70 on the season and that ties him with the big red head.... "

I just created a guy named Scotty Smalls (from The Sandlot. haha). He plays 3b for the Akron Aeros - AA for Indians.

I also created a pitcher named Timo Cruz.
He pitches for the Montgomery Biscuits - AA for Rays

I made a SS that got drafted by the Blue Jays. You start pretty low power but high contact and decent speed so it's just a matter of managing yr training points. My goals were win a batting title and go 30/30 for homers/steals. It took awhile but I've built my power up pretty well. 5 seasons in I led the Red Sox to a championship, won MVP and Silver Slugger with a .389 BA and led the league in homers with 41, tied for 1st with Chase Utley (who went to the Angels). Granted thats a pretty low total for hrs leader but hey nothing to sneeze at either. Missed my goal for steals with just 23 tho. So I ended up having more power than speed!
Also you get lots of assists at SS to answer yr question. I find that the AI very rarely gets thrown out stealing for some reason, you realy don't get too many put outs except when turning DPs.

When i am a CP, i aim to improve my Clutch attributes and improve the 3 pitches that i start with before going on to improve H/9, BB/9 and K/9.

Redsox-Rick, how have things worked for you with this approach? What year is your closer, what level is he in, and how is he pitching? Thanks--just looking for as much good info. as possible, since I have a CP also.

I am in my fourth year. I am the highest rated closer on the Nationals.
I spent the first 2 years in the minors but was injured and managed 40.2 IP in my first year in AA as a middle reliever. Second year, i was called up to AAA and pitched 33 times with 17 saves from 17 opportunities. I made the ML team out of ST in year 3 and have been pretty good up to this point. My career ERA is 1.98 and i have 46 saves from 48 chances.

I tend to give up 1 too many hits and occasionally struggle with high pitch counts but it hasn't hurt me too much up to now.

Finally made it to the playoffs after 12 years in the majors. Pitching for the Indians, I lost game 1 of the division series. Didn't help I was matched up against the Cy Young winner! Fortunately, the rest of the team stepped it up and won the series. I'm scheduled to start game 1 of the championship series.

I'm in my 4th season with my RTTS guy (SS, Padres), second year in the Majors. My rookie year was going great until right before the All-Star Game when my guy somehow fractured his shin and went on the 60-day DL. Finished the rookie season with .329, 12 HR, 58 RBI.

Spring training the following season my guy went on a tear, hitting everything in sight. Power/contact ratings are in the 70s, and he was moved into the cleanup spot after A. Gonzalez. Once the season started, the hot streak continued for the first 6-7 games, including a 429 ft. game-winning HR off Lincecum (he was going for the complete game shutout; final score was 2-1).

Since that HR, my dude's gone completely in the tank. It's so unreal how every pitch he used to drive into the gap for doubles now dies and is caught by the OFs. Every hard shot that used to get past IFs are now caught. My current line (as of 2nd week of June) .278, 1 HR, 13 RBI. I've hit into so many DPs, it's just ridiculous. Worst part is I'm not being offered Batting Practice on off days, which I think would help get out of this long funk.

Anybody ever been in a really bad RTTS hitting slump? I don't know why all of a sudden everything's going downhill.

My player is a SP for the Astros organization. I was called up in my 3rd year and pitched in the bullpen for 4 games. I was then sent back down once the MR was activated from the DL. When I went back to AAA I was now sent to the bullpen and the manager said no to being put back in the rotation. Also I noticed that some of my ratings dropped. I thought that the ratings did not drop until you were in your 30's. I am only 20. Anyone else have this happen?

1B drafted by the pirates. I have a great year at AA my first year, but stay there the entire year. If I knew how to access the stats I would. I know that I hit around .340 with an OBP of around .370 and for sure 17 HR's and 102 RBI's and 20 SB's. So then at the end of the year I get a notice that the big league club has purchased my contract and I am officially on their 40-man roster. I'm stoked.

So I head into the Spring of 2010 and have a mediocre one. Nothing special. I make the opening day roster though (Adam LaRoche is still on the team though) and am the starter. Through April 20th here is my statline: .358 avg; 5 HR; 14 RBI; 1 SB; .679 SLG. I'm number three in the league in HR's and RBI's. I'm number 5 in AVG. I'm also second in All Star voting and the first in line for ROY. I've also met all of my goals the first time around and am on pace to do it again the next time.

                              I'm pretty pumped right?...

Well I click "Sim to Next Appearance" and I get the notice that I had just been optioned to AAA Indianapolis because Pedro Feliz is back with the club after an injury. WTF????????? This is a bunch of whack right? This is why the Pirates suck in real life...

Just thought I would vent some frustration.

                              Two Questions:

Is there a certain date that I can request a trade? I want to ASAP and get out of Pitt.

Does anyone have a guide of what the little things (such as the fire and the king's crown) mean when they are next to someone's name? I would appreciate that very much.

The fire means that that player is currently on a hot streak, and the crown, I believe means that that players leads in a certain stat category.
