Re: MLB 09 "Road To The Show" thread

I just completed my first contract which was two years. I was drafted by the Blue Jays, traded to the Rangers. Dominated in AA and AAA. I'm in year three right now, and just signed an MLB contract with the Rangers (2 years, $2M) with a Spring Training Invite. I really hope I make the team.

I just finished my second season with Pitsburgh. I was dominatig at AAA batting over .350 with like 10 homers and 30 rbi's. I got called up near the end of May and in my first game I hit a grand-slam and then in the bottom of the ninth I hit a walk-off homer off Kerry Wood. What a game. Unforunatley that success didnt continue as i struggled throught most of June and then I tore my groin(ouch) and got placed on the 60-day DL. I came back in Sep and killed the league hitting 5 homers and 22 rbi's. My team didn't make the playoffs. What a surprise. The Mets ended up winning the WS. I got offered a 4 year deal worth 9 million and I tried to sign a 1-year deal but they just woudn't comply. In the 2 offseasons that I have played the Pirates have done absoltley nothing to improve. NOTHING. I guessing another 5th place finish.

In rtts what determines your hitters hot and cold zone? it seems like mine are always the same regardless?

Actually, now that I think of it, I almost never see bunts. You're probably talking about as a position player, people bunting you over so it's probably different, but as a pitcher, I almost never see anyone bunt on me.

I was just traded to Baltimore. . I wouldn't be so crushed but that I really wanted to be an Indian. It's not all bad, though, as the trade got me moved up to AAA, and surprisingly, I went straight to the rotation, didn't have to buffer in the bullpen.

I have a question for you SPs. This happened to me last year, and it's happening to me this year too. Whenever I get pulled from the game with runners on base, the bullpen ALWAYS allows ALL of them to score. If I leave with 2 runners on, the bullpen WILL allow those runs to score almost EVERY time. Does this happen to anyone else? Is this a common occurence, or does my team's bullpen just suck really really bad?

I've had it happen to me a few times, but it really depends on your bullpen. I've gone out of games in the 7th inning with a 5 run lead only to see the pen blow the game and visa versa, been taken out with runners on 2nd and 3rd with no out and the pen doesn't allow a run to score. It happens, but it goes both ways in my experience.

I'm really loving RTTS mode on All Star.

Whatever they did is making me give up a few walks, more than last year, and make my pitches not quite as dialed in. I'm beginning my 3rd season, I'm the 5th AAA starter, but I'm hoping to move up some point this year.

They definitely didn't promote me as fast as last year's game, and that's a good thing. I think I'll feel like I earned it more when I make it to the big leagues.

I do think I'll add a 4th pitch this season. What do you guys think would go along with a 4 seam FB that hits 101 (I've maxed out the speed), a changeup, and a sinker.

I was thinking some sort of breaking ball, but would a fastball that has movement be better?

For me, they seem to be OK with holding leads overall, it's just the inherited runners.

I would add the slurve. They way it acts from pitch ot pitch is like have 5 pitches. Sometimes I will get the nice downward movement of a curve other times the movement is more subtle like the slider.

I'm at work and photobucket is blocked so I can't pull up some of my K's with the slurve but I like having that pitch.

Edit: Here are 3 vids of my slurve.

Although this was captured during my AA season, here is a video of his slurve. I should get an updated one considering it's quite advanced up to this point.

I am now batting a respectable 280 in AAA for the NO Zephyrs in the second spot. Still no HRs after 100ABs, but I have 25 RBI and 8 walks. I got promoted due to injury of the current 3B starter on that team.

On a side note, the Zephyrs are not very good. We are in last place.

man RTTS is so annoying at times

I feel the adv. goals are too important in the game. I like that they are in the game but they should be used as part of advancement not as the MAIN deciding factor. Somtimes making your player better and worrying about adv. goals is like running up a mountain of ice.

if I am a SP for an AL team why does it matter that I work on bunting?

RTTS is a great feature but needs tons of improvement IMO

In my second start, I gave up 3 runs in 5 innings.
