Thats the problem with this mode. The only thing I can really tell you is when you first create your player just put all of his attributes to speed to give you a headstart because its hard to work on speed once actually earning points.

Hopefully next year they add where when creating your player you choose what kind of player you are...speed guy, power hitter, contact hitter etc and your advancement goals work on improving these things.

Looking for one to three RTTS fanatics I mean straight fanatics. I'm looking for some hardcore people who might be involved in a super secret project but you must know everything there is about RTTS. Hit me up on a pm if you think I'm talking about you.

Re: MLB 09 "Road To The Show" thread

I decided to start my RTTS and luckily I got drafted by the Chicago Cubs as a CF. I was so-so during Spring Training, signed a 3 yr contract and got sent to Doube A. I was real hot at the beginning until like a month before the all-star game. Thats when I went on a major slump. I went for a high .290 BA to about .250, no homeruns and about 10+ RBI's (dont really remember) and 10 SB..

Then till about a week before the all-star game, I got traded to the Chicago White Sox for a SP and played for their Double A squad. and my slump continued. I finished the season with a .251 BA, 0 HR, 28 RBI's. The team made it to the ML Championship Game and ended up winning, although i was a factor only in one game of the series. Oh yea and the Red Sox defeated the Cubs in the World Series in 7 games.

As I simmed through the off-season, I got a email saying the White Sox has purchased my contract from Double A Birmingham and that im on the 40 man roster.

Well im in Spring Training of my second season as a Utility Player for the White Sox.

          Ill keep yall updated.

In case you didn't know, you don't have to make all of your goals. Making over half of your goals will make your manager happy, and you don't need to meet your goals every period.

I meet over half my goals every other period, and I have plenty of advancement points to do what I otherwise want with my player.

The hit-and-run seriously needs to **** off.

If there is 1 out and a runner on first, I have to swing at whatever garbage is thrown at the mound. My troubles are usually compounded by the fact that I have Johnny "Eat Another Big Mac" Fatass running at first, so if I swing and miss his *** is getting thrown out...

Re: MLB 09 "Road To The Show" thread

Figured I'd post on my RTTS player. Scott Goin, SS for the Seattle Mariners. I play on Allstar level using Psycho's sliders (not sure if these help or hinder me).

Year 1: Hit like .290 with 1 HR in ST and was sent down to AA to be a bench player. I spent the first half of the year pinch hitting and playing occasional SS or 2B. At the all-star break I decided to start bugging my manager for playing time. Soon after, he relented and gave me the starting job.

Side Note: Some of my attributes declined a little in the first half before I realized what was going on.

First AB for the West Tennessee Diamond Jaxx

Year 2: Did not get a Spring Training invite (I really needed to work on my hitting without goals). Oh well. Started back in AA as the starter. Began with a bad slump (1-19) but managed to get into a groove and was promoted to AAA Starter on May 19, 2010.

Got to AAA and promptly my hitting fell apart. I was struggling to hit .200 for a few weeks. After a month and a half, I was sitting at .250 and couldn't seem to escape the 1 for 4 days. After the All-star break, everything just started clicking. I was seeing the ball better and hitting it hard. I hit like .400 for the next 3-4 weeks, including a 28-game hit streak and one 2-homer game (maybe the first ever for a minor leaguer with 3 total homers on the year). Ended the year hitting .325 and was feeling good.

Coiled to Strike for the Tacoma Rainiers

Year 3: Signed a contract to be a MLB bench player and got invited to Spring Training in a utility/bench role. It was frustrating only getting to pinch hit. I only got like one start. My hitting suffered and had dropped down to a putrid .100 avg before getting a couple hits in the last week to get above .200. Fortunately I still made the club as a bench player backing up Yuniesky Betancourt. The AAA shortstop, Carlos Triunfel, still had a higher overall than me. I guess I got the nod for my great AAA year and higher potential.

Life in the show was hard as a bench player. I got like 5-8 at-bats in a week and was struggling to keep up with goals and to keep my attributes from declining. I considered failing my goals to get sent back down but luckily I started hitting well and was able to keep my head above water. After bugging Don Wakamatsu for quite a few weeks, he finally saw the light and gave me Betancourt's job on May 11, 2011.

I had my ups and downs for a few months. Went from hitting .323 after 200 ABs to .289 after 275 ABs. Struggling bad for a bit there. I took some extra BP and developed a new method of watching the pitchers release point. this gave me quicker reactions to recognize where the pitch was going (although I still couldn't lay off it in a lot of cases). I had been working on my power the past few months and things started to pay off. I went on a tear in August and September, going from 4 homers to 16 homers, hitting .320, and 74 RBI. I managed to climb up to 2nd in the Rookie of the Year vote (the top guy hit .265 with 29 homers and 90 RBI).

The final day of the year came down to a battle of the worst division. Mariners and Rangers battled for the division championship (both with a crappy 79-82 record). We triumphed with me picking up a crucial RBI late in the game. The dreaded Red Sox awaited. Needless to say, they crushed the hapless Mariners in 3 games. I did okay, hitting .465 but with no extra base hits and only 1 RBI.

Double Play Magic with the Mariners

Year 4: The Mariners must be dumb. They offered me a 4 year/4.6 million dollar contract to be a AAA starter. Haven't decided what I'm going to do yet but it doesn't look good.

The interesting part is how hard it is for me to hit lefties versus my success against righties. My attributes are a little skewed to right handers but I think I just have trouble seeing the ball as a lefty vs a left-handed pitcher.

For those interested, here are my attributes from day 1 of each Spring Training. I didn't notice how much my overall went up after the first year.

I just have a quick question, is it possible at all for a pitcher to win ROY?
I've noticed, now my 3rd year in as a pitcher, that no pitcher is ever in consideration, and this year when my pitcher is in his first year, he is 9-5 with a 2.30 ERA in July, yet not in the top 3.

That was a problem in last year´s version and it seems like it´s still there.

So I just finished my second year. My team, the Phillies, were in the playoffs and I just rocked in the playoffs. Granted we lost in the second round, but I went 2-0. For the season I was 16-3. I was only making the league minimum, but during the offseason, they offered me a contract, and the only team to do so, to make 52 million a year. I am in spring training and just sucking it up. What gives! I am rocking during the season normally but man, spring for me sucks. Should I try and make up my current pitches and then get a new pitch?
