Does anyone's player go through serious ups and downs? My player has hit some huge slumps, and then I'll go on a 10 game hitting streak, and then back to a slump. During the slumps, every ball I hit goes right to someone, or get caught at the wall. So frustrating!

Re: MLB 09 "Road To The Show" thread
I just signed a 3-year deal worth 10.4 million with the Florida Marlins, with one year + one month experience in the majors. Let's just say I'm definitely getting low-balled. Curious if people thought this was a good move or not...
I don't think I would have been eligible for Super Two had I not agreed to their terms and had them resign me for one more season. With that in mind I tried to get a two-year deal, but they wouldn't do that no matter how low I went. So do you think it's better to have done what I did (the "middle ground" approach, I suppose), or should I have: 1) not agreed to their terms for two off seasons in a row, ultimately getting signed to two low one-year contracts, and hit arbitration ASAP, or 2) gone with a 5-year deal, forget arbitration and just play out my contract and wait for free agency?Comment

Re: MLB 09 "Road To The Show" thread
As much fun as I have had with this mode, I just haven't been able to reconcile this aspect of the mode. I just can't make myself care what I make because it has no real bearing. I just want a contract and I'll take any amount to get it. If I won the Cy Young three years in a row and was offered a 7 year deal worth $2 million, as long as I wanted to play for that team, I would say, "yup, I'm good."I just signed a 3-year deal worth 10.4 million with the Florida Marlins, with one year + one month experience in the majors. Re: MLB 09 "Road To The Show" thread
I'm sorry you're getting hit like this with your RTTS. I put in 4 games tonight (well one I injured my arm in the 5th) and haven't had any problems, yet.
Does anyone feel like the umps are more consistent now with balls and strikes? I was being consistently pinched and wasn't getting any of the questionable strikes.
I have the opportunity to go free agent. I'm not really sure if it's a good move. I'd hate to be on another team in the bullpen when I do have a starting role now. I have to check something out though, wasn't paying attention.Comment

Re: MLB 09 "Road To The Show" thread
I love this game, which is why I'm inclined to do some more ranting about the things I hate...
I've done well with my pitcher. He's in the second year of a four-year deal that he signed with the Pirates. Won 22 games in my first year, with 271 K's. Helped the Pirates finish 80-82, got the Cy Young, but (surprise, surprise) I got no points for it.
You have to love how the rewards work in this game. I can throw a 57-pitch, two-hit shutout into the ninth, and if I have the audacity to allow a leadoff baserunner, ****-for-brains in the team jacket will pull me immediately and give me a stern talking to if that runner ties it (or worse yet, wins it) for the other team. Like it's my fault that my infield displays more suck than a French porno?
As it stands on its own, that's asshattery... but what's better is when you're asked to "get a ground ball out", or "strike a guy out", and you do something better (say, strike a guy out instead of getting him to ground out), you get a 10 point "positive result" instead of the 15, 20, or 25 point result for "succeeding". What the hell kind of bull**** is that?
And bunting... Jesus. Tap. Dancing. Christ. If I allow the #8 to get on, I know the pitcher is bunting, because bunting is the easiest damn thing to do in this friggin' game. Unless I walk him, he's making contact, and it's probably going to be fair. And if I try to skirt around him, the "ALL CALLS ARE MADE PERFECTLY" gods kick in and ensure a 3-0 count, even if he watches one go down the heart of the plate, because when the CPU wants a guy to get on, he's getting the **** on! This is the point where I usually get frustrated and bean the pitcher in the head, because you know that there isn't a damn thing you can do to prevent the ****er from advancing the runner. I know I forfeit the out I'd get from letting him bunt, but I usually induce a ground ball double-play that, more often than not, gets me one of those patented 10 point "positive results".
Anyhow, this rant was motivated by my Cy Young award. Rookie year, 22 wins, 271 K's, an ERA under 2.00, and I even chipped in with a batting average over .300 and 7 RBI's. I helped a hapless ****ing Pirates team flirt with its first .500 season since Ronald Reagan was in office, and what do I get? Nothing. I get more points for striking out a god damned pitcher in a 14-0 blowout blowout than I do for being the best pitcher in the NL for five ****ing months.
Honestly... WHAT? THE? ****?
Moving on...
After a full season in AA, and another full season in AAA, and now my first full season in the majors, I've decided to take a break from my pitcher and create a hitter. I decided to make him a first baseman, since you get easy points for putouts and don't have to worry about speed or arm strength as much.
I got drafted by the Mariners and assigned to AA (as always... because we all know the game isn't scripted
), but I signed a one-year deal. I learned that until you establish yourself as a star, it's better to go with single year deals because they'll usually keep you on the 40-man roster (otherwise you won't be getting any call-ups, even if you're batting .600), and because you'll make a bit more cash (not that it matters, but hey... I'm pretending this is what I'd do if I were the player, right?). Plus if you don't like your organization, you can always be a bitch and hold out (seems like the more you hate your team, the less likely the manager will listen to you when you ask for a trade).
So far, I'm hitting fairly well (around .325 in 180 AB's, with 5 HR's, 36 RBI's, 2 2B's, 2 BB's, and only 14 K's)... but I have some rants on this, too.
1.) Why the hell does it make us spam the PLATE DISC rating so much in the advancement goals? I swear to Christ I have to dump at least 80 points into this every period. We're the ones taking the cuts, not the CPU. I'd rather put my points into... you know... things that may actually make me better? And even if my DISC rating is 99, I can still choose to swing at every piece of crap thrown within five feet of the plate.
2.) Hit and run. Holy ****ing ****. How many times have I come up with a runner on first, and the circus clown down at third starts doing a gigue, scratching the seemingly growing rash on his arm, and then tapping away on his cap three times. I dread it, because the pitcher on the mound inevitably throws a mile outside, and the two guys ahead of me in the batting order are slow as ****. What usually happens: I swing (and miss) and the runner is thrown out, or I take the pitch and watch the runner get thrown out. And the best part? I "FAIL" AND LOSE FIVE POINTS!
3.) Why does every ****ing pitcher have a knuckleball, or some variant (like the dreaded cutliderplitturvuckle ball)? These guys are usually rare, but it seems like I'm up against at least two of 'em in every series. Also, how many left-handed knucklers have their been in the last twenty years? I swear I've encountered at least ten of 'em in AA this season, some with side-arm deliveries.
4.) It's "Batting Practice", not "Vision Practice". Stop throwing me so many mother****ing balls, you *******.
5.) Appeal to first base. I swing right-handed, so the the ******* catcher will always appeal to the umpire at first if I so much as sniff the 'X' button on a suspect pitch. And you can usually count on Fatty McFagbot ringing you up. Part of me thinks my player had an in-game affair with his wife, because he wants me to fail like no other.
That's it for now. I'm sure there will be more to come.Last edited by Pianoman; 04-28-2009, 05:50 AM.Comment

Re: MLB 09 "Road To The Show" thread
I forgot one thing, too.
The baserunning. I hope some of the game developers read this place, because I want the moronic, dyslexic, piece of **** who developed the "controls" (or lack of) to see first-hand how much of a ****ing pain in the *** it is to get your guy to second base on--what should be--an extra base hit. And don't even get me started on taking a lead or stealing a ****ing base.
Simply put: it's asinine. Fix it, you friggin' twats. Right now I just spam the hell out of the left stick, hoping that my guy has the smarts to keep going and, more importantly, stop at the base I want him to. I don't know how many times I've been thrown out after continuing to "hustle" five feet after taking second base.
And the pickoffs? Well, let's just say they're friggin' annoying, lest I crash the board's profanity filter...Comment

Re: MLB 09 "Road To The Show" thread
or even worse... it could be crashing on you haha
ive never seen one crash pre or post patch. odd.
im in my 6th yr with my 2b on HOF with difficult sliders.
drafted by cleveland traded soon after to the royals where i spent the majority of my time sneaking in starts behind the top 2b prospect in the minors.
FINALLY, by the miracle of the RULE 5 Draft, im picked up by the nats in my 5th year and they are forced to have me on the majors roster for the year. batted .320 with 9HR's and 40 RBIs with 240 ABs
got hurt twice that season, but now im starting on the bench in the 6th year after signing a 3 yr 2.2mil deal and im batting 450 in 20 ab's and the 2b ahead of me (worse attributes) is batting .200
i asked for playing time and got nothing.
when will the glorious day come where you actually get a FULL season's worth of starts?
I really want a 20-30 HR season with 20-30 SBs

Re: MLB 09 "Road To The Show" thread
Oh man, the baserunning in RTTS is awful. I stopped counting how many times my player has stopped in the middle of the base paths because the camera magically swings around and now forward on the analog stick, is now go back, or stand there like a ****** and do nothing. I hope Sony releases a download patch and the baserunning is fixed, because that crap is awful and its irritating. Another thing I've noticed is how when you round a base, the player will slow down, and then pick up his pace. I've been thrown out trying to stretch a single into a double numerous times because my player pulls a Manny Ramirez around first and slows down, then tries to run fast. Rediculous!I forgot one thing, too.
