    Re: MLB 09 "Road To The Show" thread

    First season in my RTTS, I'm playing as a 3rd baseman for the Marlins Double A team. So I'm playing a game and it's a bit of a battle, I put us ahead in about the 7th by 1 run. Next thing I know I'm getting another at bat and we're done 1 in the top of the 9th. I step in with a runner on 1st base. I step in and first pitch is a slider and I swing at it. Next thing you see is my guy just dropping his bat and watching the ball fly with Matt Vasgersion screaming, " GET OUT OF HERE, GET OUT OF HERE, BALLGAME! " XD . My guy hopping around bases all happy. It was an amusing moment.

      Man your lucky! Everytime I bat it seems like I hit into a dp or I strike out. I am always swinging and it always seems to be early. I need to learn how to sit back just a tad bit longer. That is the hard thing right now.

      On my other guy, I am a pitcher as the Ace in my third season. I have a perfect game in my pocket and then a no hitter. I am not happy with my club (Phillies) and they traded away howard, and utley. So i am pretty well ****ed with having any offense. I am going to try and ask for a trade. I just hope that they will award me for it. So joys.

        I just pitched my first Complete game shut out against the Indians with my SP on the A's. Man does it feel good to have one game where everything seems to "click".

          I'm furious...I had a incredible streak going with my AAA team, hitting .406, with plenty of HR and RBI's. Then I got called up to the Brewers MLB team, where they wasted my season with a PH role. Only had 52 AB for the entire season, hitting .250, 1 HR, 6 RBI, 6 SB. And I got called up way before the All Star break.

          Why can't they at least give me a bunch of starts...the only two starts I had resulted in .385 hitting, 1 HR, 5 RBI and 4 SB.

          Will start my 4th season tonight...but hell, hopefully I get more playing time or demoted to AAA. At least my attributes won't degenerate in AAA and I can actually improve my player, while playing in MLB getting no playing time just lets all your attributes degenerate waaaaaaaay to quickly. Doesn't matter how much I moan to my manager about playing time, he always has an excuse.

              it really makes me furious. The ****ing Brewers can at least let me start now and then...it's not as if they fear losing, as they are nowhere near playoff contention. The problem is, I fear losing too much of my attributes, then get bumped back to AAA just to reach the same level, drop all my attributes again, back to AAA etc.

              No chance I'm not going to ask for a trade every chance I have. I hate the Brewers with all of my heart.

                Re: MLB 09 "Road To The Show" thread

                I'm done with this mode and this game for the year outside of the online league I am in. I love the RTTS mode, but it is too dang flakey this year. It is not worth the frustration anymore. I loved playing in the minors and it was awesome when I finally got called up. But the whole crash issue made me stop playing in hopes there would be a workaround or patch. Once the workaround came out I started playing again then I got injured. When I came back I had lost my starting position to a .220 batter and I only got to play in fill-in roles. Finally I was given my starting job back after hounding manager from the interactions screen. So yay, everything is back to normal. Nope, I got benched for not meeting my goals despite batting .380 for my team. So I hounded my manager again and got my starting job back. But all the benching dropped me from second in All-Star game voting from 2nd to 3rd at 2B and missed out on the game. Anyways, I finally got my starting job back but then got injured again just for one day right when my goal period ended. Luckily I met my goals so I kept my starting job but when I came back from my one day injury I was on the bench again even though my team role is starting 2B for the team. Now I have not started a game (except a couple out of position starts) in two weeks! And because I am listed as the starting 2B I can not hound my manager for starts from the interaction screen. So now I just have to play off the bench during my current advancement goals which I will never meet by just pinch-hitting in the ninth. I'm sure after this goal set ends I'll get benched and I'll be able to get my starting job back through the interaction screens because my stats back me up, but it just isn't worth going through all this crap that shouldn't be happening.

                So I'm done with this mode, just too many headaches that I'm sure will continue to happen. Oh yeah, I had started a franchise when waiting for a RTTS crash workaround, that's toast now too. I'd sell this game if I wasn't committed to a league.

                It kills me because I love RTTS and it is the reason I have bought this game for 3 years straight. Thanks for letting me vent.

                  Completely agree I love RTTS but I think this mode is simply broke. I won ROY in the MLB was the number one position player in my organization during the offseason I had a dominate ST, guess what happens when the season starts? I'M BACK TO SQUARE ONE AS AN AA BENCH PLAYER! How do I go from being the AL ROY batting .302 accomplishing all my goals, improving my player in every aspect of his game to being dropped where I started 5 seasons ago.

                  Once that happened I was done with RTTS. This mode just isnt logical at all, it seems too random and things dont add up. Hopefully SCEA fixes this mode because it is an awesome concept and an awesome mode to play, but it is just not worth all the time you put in to have this mode screw you over and over agian.

                  Now its strictly on-line for me.

                    exactly. It's not worth the headaches to me no matter how fun it is when it is playing correctly.

I've been having a blast.

                      I was a SP drafted by the Royals. I use Knight’s Full Minors roster and play on Legend with default sliders. It took me awhile to make it to the majors as I had two season ending injuries - I tore my hamstring in 2009 and broke my forearm in 2011. I made the 40-man in 2013, was rocked in spring training (7.18 ERA, 1.63 WHIP), and ended up #2 in the rotation.
                      <o></o>
                      I’m primarily a groundball pitcher, as it’s tough for me to get many strikeouts on Legend (I’ve been averaging 3.75 per 9 innings, but have been improving lately). I thought the defense behind me in AA and AAA was bad. I was wrong. The Royals are ranked 30th in Errors and Fielding Percentage with 104 errors by August and a 0.976 fielding percentage. That’s right – I’ve got the league’s worst defense behind me. I’ve got Mike “I’m going to botch every groundball” <st1:city><st1>Aviles</st1></st1:city> at SS. Ball under the glove. Bobble the ball on the transfer. Throw it away into the stands. You name it, Butterfingers Aviles does it. Every time I see a groundball go towards the SS, I cringe. All season he has been botching groundballs. He has 23 errors and it feels like they have all been when I’m on the mound.

                      <o></o>I have one very memorable start, the Red Sox are in town. The lineup is absolutely stacked:
                      <o></o>
                      <!--[if !supportLists]-->1)<!--[endif]-->Jose Reyes, SS
                      <!--[if !supportLists]-->2)<!--[endif]-->Jacoby Ellsbury, CF
                      <!--[if !supportLists]-->3)<!--[endif]--><st1><st1>Jason</st1><st1> Bay</st1></st1>, LF
                      <!--[if !supportLists]-->4)<!--[endif]-->Aramis Ramirez, 3B
                      <!--[if !supportLists]-->5)<!--[endif]-->Kevin Youkilis, 1B
                      <!--[if !supportLists]-->6)<!--[endif]-->Dustin Pedroia, 2B
                      <!--[if !supportLists]-->7)<!--[endif]-->J.D. Drew, RF
                      <!--[if !supportLists]-->8)<!--[endif]-->Mike Lowell, DH
                      <!--[if !supportLists]-->9)<!--[endif]-->Russell Martin, C
                      <o></o>
                      All of my pitches are flowing great in the first AB against Reyes. Reyes has been able to barely foul off a couple pitches. Finally, he hits a bleeder to third. Whew! I almost field it, but let Moustakas take it. He has time to make the throw. Of course, as my Royals are well known throughout the league, he botches it and throws it away. Billy Butler sits on his hands over at first and the RF has to run the ball down. Great. So, Reyes is on 3rd. Ellsbury is up. The pitches are still flowing. Ellsbury manages to hit a grounder to third. Moustakas holds Reyes at 3rd. Yes! He then throws the ball over Billy Butler’s head into the stands. Reyes scores and Ellsbury is on 2nd. Two errors to begin the inning and one run has already scored. My guy completely unraveled after that. I gave up 6 runs in the first – all unearned. I was pulled after 2 2/3, I believe the shortest outing of my career. It was awful, yet hilarious.

                      <o></o>I bounced back in the next outing at Yankee Stadium and took care of the Yankees (7 IP, 7 H, 0 BB, 1 R, 1 ER, 4 K).
                      <o></o>
                      <o></o>I only have three pitches. I primarily throw a four-seamer and straight change, while mixing in a forkball. I would have developed a 4th pitch by now. But, my 2nd and 3rd pitches have been hard enough to locate and have had to train on those. I've given up more than my fair share of longballs in the majors. It's a work in progress. My pitching coach yells at me. Here are some of my stats thus far (all on Legend):

                      <o></o>Year League - Role IP ERA K WHIP
                      2009 AA - Relief 50.2 4.97 22 1.54
                      2010 AA - Starter 126.0 2.64 52 1.14
                      2010 AAA - Starter 61.0 3.25 27 1.38
                      2011 AAA – Relief 102.2 3.16 41 1.16
                      2012 AAA - Starter 180.2 3.34 70 1.17
                      2013 MLB - Starter 136.1 4.22 62 1.30

                        Yeah, that seems to be a common theme with almost everyone. In mine, they have Ellsbury, Pedroia, Bay, Drew, etc., but also Joe Mauer and Albert Pujols.

                          I joined after reading this thread to share my RTTS experience.

                          I had started a pitcher on All-Star level but things seemed a bit easy, under 2 ERA, 1 WHIP. I was thinking about restarting him in HOF or Legend but I don't want it to be unrealistic. In other words, minor league batters shouldn't have perfect plate discipline and the ability to crush every pitch not on the corners. How do batters actually react on Legend? Do they lay off all pitches outside the zone? Demolish everything in the middle of the plate?

                          Props on the Legend pitcher and making the show. Probably a lot more realistic for a young pitcher to struggle quite a bit.

So joys.
                            Yeah I was lucky, It was my first walk off. Fast forward to the next game and I hit a walkoff single. Two walkoffs back to back it was a good two games. But don't threat about the double plays, There's games I've kept taking the fastballs towards the wall or over them. Then another game get them in the same place and hit into double plays. -.- . The double plays kills me because they take 10 points everytime so it's a buzzkill.

                              Can't speak for Legend, but on HOF minor leaguers do not have perfect plate discipline, however they will layoff pitches that miss by a lot, especially if you are not throwing strikes. They don't crush many homers, either. In fact, I was ready tio turn power up until I got to the majors and then, well, I forgot that notion.
                              A screaming comes across the sky...

                                I would strongly encourage you to give it a shot. Don't get frustrated rearly. I know I got shelled in my 2009 Spring Training. My ERA was 8.68 with a 2.11 WHIP.

                                Also, I didn't have any trouble giving up home runs in the minors and my HR/9 was in the 40s for my whole stint in the minors. I gave up 26 HRs in 500+ innings between AA and AAA. Once I got in the majors, it was bad for awhile. I've given up 17 HRs in 136 innings at the MLB level. More of those came earlier in the year. So, they don't crush everything that isn't on the corners. That's not to say I haven't been torched often. My ERA is 4.22 after all.

                                The players have good to great plate discipline. Not quite perfect, but often times it can be. As you improve with training, you can get them chasing more. I can't tell you how many times I can't get a guy to swing on an 0-2 count. A changeup that barely drops out of the zone. A fastball barely above the zone or inside/outside. But, it makes it more fun and challenging in the end knowing that I have to work hard to even have a chance at striking a guy out.

                                As long as you change speeds, eye level, inside/outside, it can go well. I have to ignore my catcher a lot. Often times he wants me to throw one of my average pitches (changeup/forkball) back-to-back and it's like setting it on a tee for a batter.

                                At this point, I can make some mistakes on average to below average MLB hitters. They might hit a line drive single a gapper, or sometimes a HR. But, if I make the slightest mistake against say, Miguel Cabrera... There's been many pitches that leave my hand and you get that good old "oh crap" feeling. So, it seems very fun and seems pretty realistic.
