Re: MLB 09 "Road To The Show" thread

I have a pitcher with a CUT, CIRC, SLD. I will add a SNK as the 4th by the time I reach the MLB. What does one recommend I add as a #5? That will be awhile down the road but right now I am considering RFB, FRK, or learn to throw curves better and add a 12-6.

Ive run into a problem. All of a sudden batting practice doesn't work. It loads, but the pitcher just stands on the mound and nothing happens. Last two BP sessions have done this.

      Has anyone run into this?

I'm in the 2nd year with the Cubbies on my RTTS pitcher (4th year overall). I throw a 4-seam, Cutter, and Circle Change. 4-seamer is easily my best pitch. After about 6 innings, I always check out my Pitcher Analysis. It's really rare that my 4-seamer gets hit for more than a .225 or so average. My Circle Change gives up the most hits and my Cutter is in between the two.

Bottom line, the 4-seamer may seem boring but it's always been my most effective and easiest to place pitch.

(Sidenote: I was thinking Curve for my 4th pitch but I keep hearing it's not that effective so I'll probably go with the Slider.)

As I entered my third year with my Reds C, I got invited to spring training and won the starting job on the team. But I must of taken some PED's during the winter because right now I am crushing the ball. I have six homers and it's only the 15th of April. I couldn't hit a homer in AAA even if the fence was 250ft at dead center, but now I'm crushing the ball like McGwuire was in 1998. But explain to me why my manager hasn't moved up in the lineup from eighth. I'm only hitting .363 and driven in 22 runs in 12 games.

I also have a SP for the Nats who got called up in his third year. Only thing is I quicky realized how sorry this team is when I lose 2-1, 3-1, and 1-0 in my first three starts. I figured I'm going to put up good numbers but not a lot of wins. Can't wait until 2017 (6yrs from my current season).

I'm just wondering if anybody has made the jump up to the show during the 1st season. Cause I jumped up to Triple A after three games, Made the all star team and I've gotten this message twice, " We think you're ready to make the jump to the show but our 40 man is full and we can't risk losing someone on the waivers, So be patient. " So I'm just wondering if that's their way of saying I'm being kept down there or if I'll be called up soon. I know Chipper's ahead of me so I won't get to start but I could atleast do the bench or play Left or Right field.

4 seamers are awesome, I just like the idea of 99 + movement over 102 w/o. I know someone else here uses that 3-pitch combo and it works extremely well for them too. I would use 2-seamer over RFB now that I have thought about it. More movement in opposite direction and can go 99.

Sliders are great. If you do go curve I'd probably go 12-6, but I have to use curves very sparingly I can't seem to figure them out and they are worthless until you get the break to about 80+.

My pitcher made it as a september call up in his first year, and in his second was called up after a month I think, and was the number 3 starter at the start of his 3rd year. My C did not get the call up till his 2nd year as a sept call up. So I think it is possible, but you need to have some luck and meet those goals as always.

On a side note, my C who is now in his 5th year in the bigs (24yrs old) is 90+ in almost every offensive category missed his goals 2 times in a row and got warned....what is aggrivating is that he is leading the league in avg with a .382 and has 28 bombs in august...oh man that annoys me. You should get cut some major slack by that point jeez.

Anybody using a SP in the NL? I am with the Dodgers and am thinking about jackin up my hitting ability. Anybody done this and have success? I currently have 10/15 contact right now, but am hitting .334 in AA....

I have a SP for the Diamondbacks and have not touched hitting....It is hard enough to get outs as a pitcher so I am concentrating on pitching attributes first. I think I will work on hitting and speed sometime after I get 4 pitches in the 90's and my fielding in the 80's.

I don't know what's more frustrating: allowing a run in 7 innings and getting the loss with my SP or having a lead the entire game, getting taken out, resulting in the bullpen blowing the game.

I've been pulled so many times with the lead, only to see someone in the bullpen with the win. I mean seriously, are you kidding? I'm sick of pitching great and getting the no-decision.

Haha, or how about those games when you give up 0ER through seven, but you get the loss I've had that happen too, that really sucks.

I hear you there. I'm stuck on the Astros with my 3rd year SP right now. In the previous two seasons, probably half of my starts resulted in no decision due to lack of run support or blowing the lead I left with.

Now I'm the #1 pitcher in the league and biding my time until my 6th year is over to see how the FA market is. I'm so sick of being on a terrible team. I'd ask for a trade but I know I'd end up on the Orioles.

As for hitting, I haven't put a single point into it yet. I spend all my batting practice time raising my bunting ability though, which I think was around 50 if I remember right.

My pitches are 4sfb, slider, sinker, and changeup, all 80+ in every category, except movement on the fastball. Fastball averages 97-100, change 72, sinker/slider mid to upper 80s. Only thing I'd like more out of him is more k's, but I think that's just me learning better when to throw what. I may add a 5th pitch soon, probably a breaking fastball like a splitter.

I've made it as a september callup in my first year, but I was a SS for the Pirates, so that's not saying too much.

Right now I'm a first baseman for the Angels. The have no Guerrero, Figgins, Aybar, or Izturis. Last year, they barely missed the playoff with a record of 80-82. They ended up tied with the Rangers, but the game decided that it liked the Rangers more so they got to go to the playoffs and we didn't. Hope they add a one game playoff for next year. I got two homeruns in my first two games, but right now I'm a week into May and I only have four homeruns, but I didn't expect to have too many.

I still remember my first homerun. We were against the Giants in LA, and Rowand robbed me. He is now my worst favorite CF.

Life in the big leagues is tough. Guys definitely hit better up here. LOL. Well we're wearing are fatigues today. As much as I love the Army theme for some reason these uniforms are just ugly. I guess because in the Army when we played sports we never wore BDUs. Maybe the pants but never the shirt. Strictly PT gear or personal stuff.

Man I wish I could get traded. I wish the Yankees would come a knockin'. I definitely pitching like a Yankee. Hot as hell one day and colder than a mother the next outing.
