Re: Someone Please Save This Game For Me

i have to say i feel your pain but i made a discovery a few days ago that fixed my games to where they are fun to play now. I have been playing with the yankees and was 14 and 35 or something like that. Couldnt hit very well at all. So i bumped down there hitting sliders both contact and power. Also lowered their timing. So this slowed down there scoring a lil bit which helped me a lot but still couldnt get the hits when i needed them. Its like everything i was swinging at i was poping up or grounding out. So i finially just set pitch speed all the way up and what do you know i start hitting the ball like crazy. winning games by 5 or 8 runs. Then losing by 1 or 4 runs. They have been great games since i bumped up the pitch speed all the way. So now i set my diffulculty level back to allstar and it plays great.

Try this and good luck with it.

Try wearing a red shirt when you play the game and see if something you've never seen happens. If enough people do this, you will only hear from the people this worked for.

It's worth noting that more than half the shirts in my closet are now lucky shirts.

Fatigue affects pitcher control and movement very gradually, but it adds up if you keep a pitcher in too long. But even near the end of a pitcher's start he can make up for this by pitching more carefully around batters (on average, increasing walks instead of extra base hits). This is a general trend you'll only see over many games, in individual games anything can happen at any time.

That said, a tired Ace is on average much better than a fresh reliever. But at some point that starter is going to lose effectiveness (or complete the game), and a reliever is going to be better. Ideally, you replace the starter before he proves this point.

Excluding closers, collectively starters pitch much better over 6 innings than relievers do over 1. That's how much better they are overall.

          Classic.

Thank you for still managing to have a sense of humor after some of the ridiculous things that get posted about this game.

Well if you think that's funny, just consider that this applies to mutual funds as well. Collectively, mutual funds have significantly underperformed the S&P and even a blindfolded monkey. So the key is to periodically close all the "losing" mutual funds and rehire the managers for new funds. This can give the appearance that every mutual fund to choose from is an over-performer. The same exercise can be done with a million coin tossers, narrowed down to one "champion" coin tosser who got 20 heads in a row. Guess what his chance of tossing a heads is next time? 50%.

Sports is meant to be fun, exciting, emotional. Your adrenaline gets going and you want your team to win. While it's technically not rational that everyone could think their team is better, that's what sports is about and it's what makes it feel great. And in the same way, a baseball game should focus on that experience. Authenticity may well mean people discuss a phenomenon the same way the talk about things that happen in real life. I've seen one bad play get talked about as someone's career in decline, and the basis for moving him to another position. Urban legends will crop up, and people might even get carried away because they care. Some people love that.

When you compare the logical appeal I made in the first paragraph to the emotional one I made in the second, people tend to choose one or the other. The two different approaches to games don't always mix because they speak different languages. These same discussions happen about real life baseball and have the same intensity, and any debate between the two camps may not end well. People still manage to enjoy sports just the same.

If you see baseball in terms of stats, it's true the game does just what the in-game descriptions and guide says. I can't speculate on what your experience necessarily will be though because everyone is going to be different, but hopefully interesting!

Re: Someone Please Save This Game For Me

Perspective is everything. Of course. That's certainly true. And what's also true is that truth...is relative.

That said, facts are facts...and when the makers of the game post in response to a hypothetical phenomenon, stating that no such thing exists in the coding of the game...that's a fact. If that fact doesn't jive with someone's own personal perspective on truth, the fact isn't somehow negated. And for some of us, that's the most frustrating part of all- some refuse to grant the devs the benefit of the doubt. Personally, I am not sure I could ever be as patient as you guys are. Sure, you make a product...you put yourself out there, you had better be ready for criticism. However, when criticisms seem to fly in the face of the facts...it's really nothing more than a grandiose waste of time.

Baseball is a game where anything can and should happen. That's the magic of the sport. When I boot up this game, I get that sense of magic. I have no idea if I will win or lose- dominate or be dominated. I love that. Once I practiced enough to determine what skill level my reflexes warranted, I just "let go" and played the game for fun...soaking in the atmosphere. You have created the BEST SPORTS GAME OF ALL-TIME. I've no doubt in my mind. And I don't expect everyone to suddenly worship you- frankly, there are still ways you can improve this title. You know that, too. I just expect that people will be fair and cut you guys some benefit of the doubt, because there is no other team who has pulled off what you have so far. And dammit, that should be worth something.

I'm just not seeing this comeback CPU at all. I've lost some games from CPU comeback, but they felt legitimate. To me this is hands down the best baseball sim ever. The only issue I'm having, is I would like to draw more walks. Otherwise everything seems just right

Hope Brian and SCEA are laughing when people trade in their MLB 09 at GameStop, and someone buys it used instead of new.

Come on my man.....take it easy. To be honest, I bet they really couldn't careless what you do with your copy.

                      1) Who taught you how to play baseball.

                      2) Punch them in the face for me.

Uh, yeah, they probably do. When my copy is bought by someone, who then trades it in to someone else, who then trades it in to someone else. There's 3 new game purchases gone.

I just don't think a member of SCEA should be openly praised for basically mocking people who bought one of their games and is having trouble with it.

Seriously? They don't care what you do with your copy. They have a job to do just like you do, and most of them try to do their best. Maybe the bean counters and CEOs do if sales drop.
