becasue its not..i play on legend with all my batting sliders down to 0 (-5) so i dont get too many hits and keep a realisict AVR... i had a winnign record on my last season mode with comeback OFF, playing with the A's and the Giants i was 16-12 with the A's and 13-14 with the Giants.
Ill say this one last time, because its getting repetitve, my issue was that my games, i mean all of them, were close games... there were no blow outs by either side... thats something that annoyed me...if my pitching was good the AI pithcing was good, if it was bad, the AI would pitch poorly too, same with my hitting. this rubber band feeling got me annoyed, and i dont see this anylonger with comeback on.

i have no problem with the AI coming back on me from now and than. or with its dificulty. but i do have a problem when all my games(over 80 sample) are close for some weird reason.

Re: Someone Please Save This Game For Me

Just played the same game on the schedule 3 times in a row: Yankees (me) @ Marlins (6/21/09 - Father's Day!)...

1st game (Difficulty: All-Star, CPU Comeback: OFF) - I'm up 4-1 in the 8th inning, bring in Veras to start the 8th (I pinch hit for the pitcher in the top of the inning and made sure Veras was properly warmed up). I quickly get 1 out followed by 3 consecutive hits and an error (2 runs in, 2 on), I then bring in Marte (fully warm) who immediately gives up a 3 run HR (on a pitch purposely thrown off the plate). Marlins take the lead 6-4. Heart of my line-up comes up in the 9th, none of which can seem to hit fast balls down the middle beyond the pitchers mound. Ok that's pretty unlikely, but it can happen I guess. After the game, I don't save anything, exit all the way out of the game to the PS3 desktop. Then I re-started The Show and set up the exact same game on the schedule, except this time I knock it down to Veteran...

2nd game (Difficulty: Veteran, CPU Comeback: OFF) - I'm up 2-0 in the 9th (Burnett pitched a gem through 7 2/3, Ramirez got the last out in the 8th). I bring in Mariano to close the game (fully rested and fully warm). He gets the first batter to pop out and then A-Rod overthrows 1st base on a routine grounder (for the second time in the game) to start the madness. Mariano suddenly can't find the strike zone at all and if it even comes near it, it's smashed for a hit. a walk and 3 consecutive hits later, I'm down 3-2 which ends up being the final score. Once again I exit the game without saving anything & re-start it to play the exact same game for a 3rd time. I decide to stay with Veteran...

3rd game (Difficulty: Veteran, CPU Comeback: OFF) - I have a 8th inning rally to overcome a 2-0 deficit and I'm up 3-2 going into the bottom of the inning. I have Bruney & Marte warmed up so I can use a little righty/lefty strategy as I try and set it up for Mo to come on in the 9th. I get 2 quick outs and have 2 strikes on the 3rd hitter. Looks good right?...wrong, amazingly on a tapper back to the mound Marte throws the ball away and allows the hitter to reach (what a phenomenal stroke of bad luck ). Next hitter I throw the ball way down out of the zone to try to get him to chase, but as if by magic he is able to golf this ball at his shoe tops for a 435 foot HR. Wow what a surprise, the CPU takes the lead once again.

I understand that in baseball anything can happen on any given day, but there is a point where this stuff just starts to become a little absurd. I laugh when I read people say that a problem doesn't exist, and it's all a figment of some people's imaginations. If that were true, I find it extremely curious as to why this never seemed to be an issue of discussion in past versions of the game, why would so many people (I know, not all) start imagining this all of a sudden? This is the first year that when I am playing, I can immediately tell when the AI "surge" is about to happen, no matter what I throw and no matter who's pitching. In reality this might happen a handful of times in a whole season, I am not exaggerating when I say that I've had well over 20 bazaar games like this already with 09. Yes there are rare times I can eek out of it, but more often than not (and much more often than should be), it becomes a ridiculous barrage that destroys an otherwise fantastic game up until that point. That is where the frustration comes in, it's like this game is a near masterpiece simulation of the MLB most of the time and then something just goes haywire which detracts tremendously from the overall experience.

I am not a newbie to The Show and certainly not to the game of baseball, nor am I immature and feel angry because I can't always win. I have been playing baseball video games for a very long time. I've owned nearly every damn one of them going back to the Atari 2600 (1982 I think). I have been a fan & student of the game since well before that. I played the sport (for real) in organized leagues for over a decade. I am VERY confident that I can tell when it's just me doing things wrong "baseball wise", or if things seem off "program wise". I've played enough games this year (approx 60) to see that something is definitely not right. Frankly, it doesn't make a bit of difference to me whether people agree with me or not. You can sit here and show me statistics & technical specs and formulas on random events forever, none of that can compare to over 70+ hours of playing the game. Believe me, I want desperately to enjoy this game. I did spend $60 on it, plus a good chunk of the last month of my life. Unfortunately, I am at the point where I'm not enjoying it very much at all this year, and certainly not nearly the amount that I did the last couple of years. I am happy that some of you guys are enjoying it, I guess I am just looking for something to save the game for me this year as well.

OK, rant over. Come on and beat up on me now if you wish, after playing this game so much these past few weeks, lord knows I'm used to it.

Great post magoo. It's taken me about 10 games to notice this and I'm just not gonna play the CPU anymore.

At least I have an online league to play with!

It really sucks too because playing 8 great innings is awesome. That damn 9th just kills the game for me!

Sounds like the RNG might be a PRNG which means there are good random properties in the code however a psuedo random number generator creates a sequence which repeats itself exactly or the memory usage grows without bound.

I loved this post (it actually kind of makes sense when you think about it)....hmm, I wonder if this memory mutation has anything to do with the teleporters not working in the HUB and why Jess has gone missing (lol, it's a HOME thing).

lol... well to be honest, it doesnt seem a true RNG is being used.. a true one will usually produce larger gaps.. and that isnt happening with people who are experiencing all these close games

I completly understand the op and I agree with him as well. I've seen it too many times. The CPU becoming monsters when they are losing. There have been many complaints about this but people still want to doubt or disrespect the person who brings it up as well.

The amount of computer comebacks are absolutely ridiculous. Im 52 games into my Brewers Franchise, and i am 14-38... 31 out of those 38 losses i had the lead in the ball game. I feel your pain.. I play on Veteran with default sliders except for timing which I changed to zero for both myself and cpu. I haven't started a franchise yet, I'm waiting for Knight or Wookie to post there complete rosters. I always play as the road team and everytime I score in the top of the inning, the cpu always scores in the bottome of the inning. Theres no doubt in my mind that the game is scripted. This shouldn't happen everytime. Every game I play always ends up the same way. I played a game the other night where I won 12-11. I was the Orioles playing the Royals in KC. I scored 5 runs in the first inning and the cpu scored 3 runs all with 2 outs in the bottom of the inning. I pitched flawlessly for 3 innings until I scored 4 runs in the 5th. Can you guess what happened? Your right, the cpu scored 4 runs again all with 2 outs. Pretty much every game I play ends the same way. The only time the cpu scores on me is when I score in the top of the inning. It is really annoying but I still love the game and figured theres nothing I can do about so oh well.

I just played another game since I posted and I loss 8-5. I was playing as the Cubs vs Marlins. The cpu scored 4 in the 5th inning after me scoring 4 and 4 in the 8th inning after me scoring 2. Same ole same ole.. LOL theres definitely something wrong here but I don't expect SCEA to do anything about since they have already denied that theres any sort of cpu comeback code written in the game. I don't care what anybody says, I know there is one but again theres nothing I can do. Off to play another game..

Same old song and dance!! Some of us seeing amazing comebacks some of us completely backing SCEA and not seeing a thing. I am trying to buy Brian's flat out laugh at the thought something might be there. One guy used the term groupie towards those that are backing SCEA. I disagree with that because I think the term groupie stands for a bunch of people who are stupidly in love with some natural quick talent like the jonas bros. However in this case these people have put out a product that takes so much understanding of the game and hard work that most of us drool over the details that make baseball great, and it blindfolds us slightly. SO I think its more of a respect issue that these so called groupies have for what theyve put out. Do I agree or disagree at this point? I have to agree with the developers because of their knowledge of the game and respect i have for them but my 120 plus games played so far say no way somethings wrong. Maybe 120 games isnt enough who knows? There has been teams who have great seasons that are not all that good.

No, I wasn't using groupie to say they were backing SCEA, I was just joking around with them for talking about the red shirts for so long. Re-read the posts, and note the wink I have tremendous respect for SCEA and this game. It is the best sports game ever made in my opinion. Plus, I don't think there is CPU comeback and believe Brian that it doesn't exist. I respect the differing opinions about this, but I don't personally see comeback AI or faulty game programming.

On this board there are threads of people talking about how close they got to a no hitter. Compared to that, the three blown leads you described are a much more common streak and should actually happen several times a season for many teams. The game would be broken if this didn't come up.

If we're talking long streaks, if it's not one team in real life it's going to be another. Periodically, you can easily have multiple teams with losing streaks even with no teams having a winning streak. And vice versa. I wouldn't put too much into what happens in one week.

By definition, another person may see the very opposite steak in a few games, and even more people will repeatedly see both. I've played thousands of games and have seen a simple streak like this repeatedly, as well as the exact opposite. In a twist of irony, preventing these natural streaks from happening would be the very nature of comeback code!

Based on these 3 games and your experience, do you feel that if you played 3 or even 6 more games the same blown leads would continue happening repeatedly? Do you feel you can't get blowouts because of a flaw in the game, and that blowout streaks aren't possible? How about for other people? I don't get a sense that you think there's necessarily comeback code, and these examples are easy to test.

Real life teams have lost a dozen games more under less likely and far more ironic circumstances. What matters is all the thousands of other games we'd have to ignore to see this. No newspaper is going to print the thousands of non-streaks that happened, and no one's going to discuss it.

Regarding streaks, several great teams have even failed to win championships for decades, and in real life they will even blame ghosts. Assuming ghosts and their red shirt cousins aren't really responsible, people would still invent them anyways! This answers your question on imagination and why so many people have these theories. If they didn't, this wouldn't be baseball. It wouldn't be fun.

Millions of people have referenced specific curses and ghosts in books, articles, and tv for decades. That's more than the number of posts ever made to this board. So is this because of the strong influence ghosts have on baseball, or rather the importance of imagination and color in baseball?

For anyone reading this, if you're convinced there is definitely hidden comeback code or don't want to hear about whether or not it literally exists, please stop reading right here. Baseball is about statistical mysteries, and there's no need to spoil that.

For those of you still reading, the answer is there is no such hidden comeback code. This is a simple matter of fact, because it either exists or it doesn't. It's one thing to run scientific tests on a chest to determine what's inside, it's another to open it up and look. Both methods when done correctly yield the same result - there is no hidden comeback code.

Some people want to know this, and those are the only people I'm writing this for so please don't take offense at having an answer. I don't want to spoil the mystery for anyone else, but on the other hand there's been some confusion for those want to know. I apologize if you read this by skipping the warning two paragraphs ago, I'm only trying to give an answer for a few people asking.

We all know there's always going to be threads on streaks in baseball. After all, the most unlikely thing in baseball is for nothing unlikely to happen!

Now don't get me wrong I still love this game and find it enjoyable. In my last game a series of events that by themselves are rare but in back to back order should have a less than 1 in million chance of happening.

I was up 3-1 bottom of the ninth and I had already gotten two outs. The next batter comes up and hits a grounder towards third and my third baseman does some weird move to try and back hand it instead of setting up in front of it and the ball bounces through his leg, literally through his leg like the collision was not detected. So I say ok, no biggie I am still up by two with two outs. Next guy comes up and hits a grounder to short. Should have been a routine play but the short stop makes an error. At this point I am thinking "Oh boy". So the next batter comes up and I can't remember who it was but it was like the 8 or 9 hitter. I decide to keep everything low to try and get him to ground out. The first pitch I throw was low and inside at the feet and it was a ball. The batter is able to turn on it and crushes it almost 400 feet to the opposite field for a walk off home run.

I honestly had to laugh after that happened. I was expecting the game to go into slow mo and cue the music from The Natural as I watch the ball fly into the lights. I don't think it is ai comeback because I am leading my league and I have won many games by a large margin. Sometimes though things like this happen and you just have to laugh at them.
My thoughts exactly ! I hate that vlad crap in the dirt I had kendall pull one lunging over the plate 2 feet out of the zone in the dirt for a homerun
I also had pitches aimed well out of the zone go right down the middle with great control pitchers not tired ect.
So can anyone explain this ?
That being said most games are a chess match but many scripted type Error things happen for cpu and the user that must be figured into this games AI .
My favs are liners to cpu infielders seems to hit a stone and bounce over for a hit.
My least favorite is when my second baseman throws a routine grounder 10 ft over my 1b mans head to start a cpu rally after 2 were out . Kinda disappointing after i worked so hard to avoid the Amped up CPU hitters from the 8th and 9th .
I really wouldnt mind it but it happens almost every game
That being said this is my alltime favorite sports game ..............
