If you're not pitching well with Mariano Rivera, it's because you're not pitching well with Mariano Rivera. If you pitched better with Rivera in previous games, it means you pitched better with Rivera in previous games. We could start a new discussion about that instead. There's probably an explanation and it might be hard to figure out, but I can easily say it is not comeback code.

If comeback code was why you kept losing games with Rivera, nobody else would be able to close with Rivera or any other closer. Blown saves is like RBIs in that your teammates have a lot of say in what you get, it's a record of achievement and but a weak statistical measure. This is the same reason why a 2.50 ERA legendary starter can have a 11-10 record more than halfway into the season. This kind of real life inconsistency isn't because of a jinx. For Rivera being on the Yankees also helps his blown saves stat in real life, but not if in the game you're not getting real life Yankee offense.

About Rivera, if you think something unnatural is happening other than you're not pitching well enough, what are you seeing? Is he throwing impossible to hit pitches and the hitters are hitting it anyways, or are the pitches not landing where they're supposed to be?
But I clearly said that I didn't feel that "comeback code" is what was happening. I don't begin to even hint that I have any clue as to how AI actually works (or doesn't). I do however certainly know the difference between what is realistic and what is not. Especially when it comes to baseball. I was just using Rivera as an example of the extreme cases of this phenomena. I have seen this time & time again with many pitchers on many different teams. I too have been able to successively close lots of games with Rivera, as I said it is not an all the time occurrence, just an all too frequent one. I don't know how to explain it other than it's pretty blatantly obvious when it starts happening. Yes I see things that seem unnatural at times, impossible pitches being hit for HRs being one of them. I certainly am not going to try to debate this with you, obviously you program the game and know it better than anybody. I've been playing it for many years and feel confident that I am quite knowledgeable of it from that perspective. Many things have changed with the way this game plays this year. It certainly seems much tougher overall at every difficulty level, would you agree with that?

Anyway, I don't want to come off as argumentative, as I said I've been a huge fan of this game for a long time and the bottom line is that regardless of whether this is an actual problem or not, there is still no other baseball game that comes close to comparing. I know that you guys always say that although you strive to make the best game on the market, no game is perfect. It might sound odd, but I actually thought that my input could somehow be of help, since others are having a similar experience (perhaps we could help each other). Thank you very much for taking the time to read & respond to my posts.

No offense to the developers but to me this game has comeback always. I speak from almost 50 games in my franchise so far. I'm 17-30 with the Yankees. 21 of these losses have been BS comebacks. Guys with no power all of a sudden hitting bombs against good pitchers. I'll pitch low and they will hit anything out the park. Once the CPU starts hitting back to back then comes the errors and more BS until they take the lead. It's very disapointing because I can't even enjoy this game. Almost every game is a nail bitter. That's not always the case in real baseball.
NBA2K is the standard of sports games period.

You just don't get it. ANYTHING can happen in real baseball! That's what makes the game so awesome and REALISTIC. It doesn't matter if you did everything perfectly in this video game, it's so REALISTIC, that the game knows better than you do, and will automatically adjust gameplay to make it more REALISTIC. If that means CPU comebacks, then so be it!

I've done my fair share of testing, and I don't buy it that it's reversed or broken or whatever.

And as I've said 100 times before, it's refreshing not leading the league in every offensive and pitching category. I think most people are used to jumping right in and succeeding. I mean, the first time I played 2k9, I had 22 hits and 12 runs ( ) .

Hitting .278 and averaging 4.5 runs per game sounds about right actually, lol. Look at the run differentials per game, winning 4-2 is pretty normal.

I find joy in having to work for my runs and having to work for every pitch. Sure it gets frustrating sometimes, but I'm sure the CPU is equally frustrated whenever I comeback on him
            Couldnt agree more.

For the 5/10 people or so complaining about some sort of "comeback code" (despite what a developer tells them) there are hundreds in here not doing so, completely happy with how the game plays.

As you say, only those who need to vent will generally do so.

What happened to the OP? I mean, did we save the game for him or not?

I can't help but wonder if Comeback AI wasn't part of the gameplay options, if we'd be having these types of discussions. I guess we'll never know.

Well, it's become obvious we are just beating a dead horse here, lol. At the end of the day, it all comes down to your own personal experience and I can respect that. Having said that...

My momma used to say if you can't stand the heat get out of the kitchen

So, I would say to those that feel there is indeed a comeback phenomenon

try turning on the CPU comeback AI ON,

figure out why they are coming back on you, or

stop playing the game and quit complaining if it bugs you so much.

I am convinced that many of you that experience this comeback phenomenon are playing on LEGEND. In many video games, like Madden or NCAA Football for instance, they have game modes like All Madden or Heisman that do crazy things sometimes. These levels have been notorious for "cheating". Maybe MLB 09 The Show is no different at that level, I don't know. SCEA has stated that All Star is the sim level. That is why you have to step down to a realistic level and adjust sliders to make the game fit your abilities more.

I understand All Star may be too easy for some of you with default sliders, but I think you could tweak the sliders enough to get a good game that fits your skills and avoids getting comeback on all the time (for whatever is the reason).

Good luck with it. I truly hope you can enjoy the game like many of us.

If not, then you will have to get out of the kitchen

                    Try MLB 2K9 (just kidding).

some will mask their agenda by saying they just want help to "save the game for them"...well I think it is becoming borderline trolling...keep it to one thread, preferably the one regarding comeback code...I realize I don't speak for everyone, but I feel the other 98% of people who don't have to the audacity to think they can technically analyze a game purely through "feel" and stats based on their input, are sick of reading about the same few people trying to convince everyone the game is "too realistic" or whatever nonsense they come up with next.

Why do YOU feel annoyed ? and there is no thread hijacking at all, since both the big comeback threads were started by people who had issues. Why do you choose to come in this thread and read 'about comeback code/unrealistic comeback bull****'??

Stay out of the comeback threads, and you won't be aggravated.
